Chapter 39 The Honeymoon Part 13
Lucas lay there for about five minutes when the doctor got some water and patted him with it on the face, causing him to wake up.
"What happened? I had this crazy dream I was in the infirmary surrounded by a room full of crying babies." He said.
They all looked at each other and exploded with laughter. Elizabeth didn't mean to laugh at her husband. She knew his lack of experience in this department was going to be an experience in it's self. His reaction to this news was very comical.
"I don't understand. What is so funny?" He asked.
"Lucas, honey you are going to be a father!" Elizabeth said leaving out the other part for the moment.
"That's an understatement!" Julie remarked with a sarcastic grin.
"That's wonderful sweetheart. What a wonderful surprise! I can't wait to start buying the baby things." He said excitedly.
"Better buy them in three's." Julie mumbled under her breath.
"Honey we are having triplets." She said slowly so he could process the information.
"I don't understand, triplets meaning three?" He asked curiously. "Three what?"
The room exploded with laughter again. Elizabeth was trying to make him understand.
"Lucas we are having three babies." She said point blank trying to get the point across.
"Okay. If you only want to have three babies; that's fine by me." He said.
Julie was feeling so amused right now. He was not getting it. She felt the urgent need to jump in. "Lucas, your wife is pregnant with three babies inside her belly. You are going to be a father to three children at the same time." She giggled.
"What?! Is that even possible, how does that happen? I need to sit down." He was breathing heavily and rubbing his hands through his hair. I need a minute.
"Momma is daddy okay?" Jack asked curiously.
"Yes honey, daddy will be fine." She replied.
"I must say I have seen a lot of different reactions to this kind of news, but this is the best." The doctor said with a giggle. They gave him a minute of silence to process this information.
It wasn't that he wasn't happy about the news. He was terrified, having absolutely no experience in this department. He was so overwhelmed. He had always planned everything and was very well prepared for every situation, but this had him so out of his comfort zone. He always wanted a big family, but never expected it would happen all at once.
"I don't know what to do." He said panicking. "I always know what to do, I am so scared." He said frantically.
"Honey, I need you to breath. We are in this together. The babies won't be here tomorrow. We have time to think this through and plan." Elizabeth reassured him.
"Doc, can she walk? Does she need to stay in bed? Is she going to be okay?" Lucas was so full of questions.
"Mr. Bouchard, this is natural. Your wife will be fine. She does not need to do anything special except maybe drink some ginger tea to help her energy level. This is a natural part of life. She may feel nauseous sometimes and her energy level may change as her body changes and adapts to having three living beings inside of her." The doctor explained.
"I feel sick! I think I need to lie down." Lucas joined his wife on the bed. "Elizabeth I am so happy please don't think I am not excited about this. I love you so much. I just need a minute to think this through."
Julie was dying inside at Lucas's discomfort. She was doing everything she could to keep from laughing hysterically.
"You are over thinking this darling. I need you to just relax and let nature take its course." Elizabeth said while rubbing his hand.
"Momma, who's having babies?" Jack asked overhearing all the conversation.
"We are son." She told him.
"Where are they?" He asked curiously.
"Jack we will talk about this later. Julie will you take Jack outside and let him play in the sand? Please, let us have a minute." Elizabeth asked of her.
"Yes, I sure will." She responded with a chuckle.
"My work here is done Mr. and Mrs. Bouchard. I would continue to drink that lavender tea if I were you, Mr. Bouchard." The doc laughed as he made his way to the door.
"Ha-ha very funny!" Lucas responded as the doc walked out the door.
Elizabeth was very amused by her husband's behavior. Lucas placed his head on his wife's chest listening to her stomach while wrapping his arms around her. "Am I hurting you? He pulled back concerned.
Elizabeth felt sympathy for her husband. She could tell he was overwhelmed. "Honey, you do not need to treat me any different. It will be awhile before I even start to show."
"I want to be there for you darling! I don't know how or what to do? I feel so lost." He said tearing up.
"Lucas sweetie, it's usually the woman that has the mood swings." She chuckled.
"I'm glad I can amuse you Mrs. Bouchard." He said trying to mask his apparent discomfort.
"I am sorry sweetie. I've just never seen you so out of sorts! I am wondering if I should be worried about you." She said concern in her voice.
"I can do this darling. I will be the best father. You will see." He said gathering his composure.
"I never had any doubt." She reassured him while giving him a passionate kiss.
