Goku's eyes opened slowly as the sandman's effects began to wear off. He took a few deep breaths, realizing there wasn't a head on his chest anymore. His own moved to the side, seeing the Destroyer was no longer in bed with him. As the Attendant began to regain more of his consciousness, he pondered where Vegeta could've gone. The Saiyan warrior knew his partner left his side less than an hour ago.
Dreams of training and battling fierce enemies began the moment Vegeta rose from the bed. The thing that perplexed the Attendant the most, was the fact the dreams only started after Vegeta left his side. For centuries, Goku has been plagued with dreams of his Destroyer among other nightmares that center around that same being. The dreams were the main reason the Attendant decided to forgo sleeping most nights.
As of late, most of his dreaming has been about the Destroyer Haile.
They start out innocently enough. Nearly every dream starts out in a familiar place to the Attendant. Goku will see her out of the corner of his eye, catching him off guard. Then he will hear a sinister laugh right behind his ear, as if Haile is right behind him. When Goku turns around however, there is no one to be found.
"You would make a wonderful plaything." Haile whispers into the Attendant's ear.
A moan escaped her lips. "The scent of your blood is so exciting… I just want to watch it pool on my floor, as you beg for mercy."
A shiver ran down Goku's spine, hearing the Destroyer's cold voice again. It was almost as though Haile was right next to him in his bedroom. Exactly how strong was Haile? Would she be able to prevail against the Attendant? Unlike most Angels, Goku was a warrior first and a deity second. He spent centuries of time perfecting his craft of martial arts and different techniques to add to his arsenal.
Still, was there a being in the Cosmos that could best him?
The newest dream of Goku's is what truly shook him to the core. The Attendant would find himself chained to the floor with ki restraints. Like most restraints, they suppressed your energy, making you feel almost powerless. However, The shackles chained to the Saiyan drained his energy to the size of a pea, constantly siphoning it away from his body.
The space was different than in his other dreams. While it was still extremely dark, Goku could see several different devices in the room with them. He could never get a good look at them, but he could hear low moans of pain, like there were people being tortured alongside him. Each time the dream recurred, the bodies along the walls would be stacked higher than the last. The moans of pain would also become pouder and more desperate.
Normally, the warrior wouldn't fear in a dream such as this. However, Goku couldn't sense his partner's energy, almost as if he had perished. The sense of impending doom without the hope of being saved caused Goku to become desperate. The Saiyan was in an immense amount of pain, but as he yelled, his cries would go silent, losing their sound in the expanse of the room.
Sitting up in bed, the Attendant began to wonder where Vegeta was. He was forcing himself to take his mind off his nightmares. He's probably already on the battlefield. Goku pondered. Taking a moment to close his eyes, the warrior searched the premises. His suspicions were confirmed when he felt the Destroyer's energy deep inside the dimension. The second Vegeta found a way to one up me, he's going to train as much as he can to attempt to gain some ground. Goku chuckled softly, standing from the comfortable bed. The warrior was excited to train with his partner.
When the two used to train in the mortal realm, the times in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber were Goku's favorite. Goku and Vegeta would always find a rhythm that brought out the best and worst in each other. Even the times they would train with Lord Beerus and Whis helped bring the two closer together as sparring partners.
Through all that time, Goku and Vegeta always ended up sleeping in the same room. Even if Vegeta would insist on separating themselves, fate would find a way to make the opposite happen. Although they never slept in the same bed, having the Prince laying in the same room caused the nightmares to cease. Instead, Goku had pleasant dreams of him and the Destroyer.
The Attendant could never figure out why that was until this morning. It must have something to do with our bond. Goku thought to himself. We sleep better when we're together versus apart.
Goku packed a bag with some food for the road, in case either of them felt the need to eat. He began to wonder how much stronger his Destroyer has gotten since he gained his two new attachments. Seeing the malicious look on Vegeta's face nearly reminded Goku of his twin they defeated so long ago. The Attendant could tell he was thoroughly enjoying himself as he hacked and slashed through the entire crowd of enemies.
As the warrior grabbed some extra senzu beans, he remembered the helpless feeling he experienced while he was out there. He never wanted to feel like he couldn't help his mate again. Goku has managed to always come out on top when it comes to the power difference in their relationship. The Attendant always felt the need to protect his partner. Now, Vegeta has quickly gained the upper hand from his recent bout of training.
Goku was especially glad for Korin giving him a few senzu plants. The Attendant had been cultivating them for centuries. He began using them for training purposes, since he was so much stronger than his opponents. Now it would seem he's in their shoes.
Well… What's the worst that could happen? It's not like he's gonna chop my arms off! Good thing I'm bringing as many of these as I can. Goku chuckled worriedly to himself. Once he had everything ready, Goku set out into the dimension, intent on finding his Destroyer.
"Ouch!" Goku rubbed the top of his head.
Vegeta sighs, grabbing the staff from the ground. After countless attempts and different exercises to train Goku's brain to watch for distractions, it seemed to be no use. Lord Vegeta was surprised even with his Ultra Instinct, he was still able to catch his Attendant off guard nearly every time.
On the last dozen tries of this exercise, Goku would notice the staff coming towards him. He was so occupied with Vegeta's attacks however, he was unable to catch it. This caused the staff to hit him in the head. A bump was starting to show itself on the back of the Attendant's head.
"Again. Come on Kakarot, stand up." Vegeta ordered.
"I think we've tried it enough. My head's actually starting to hurt. Can we try something else?"
"You're never going to learn if you can't simply remember I threw something into the air in the first place!"
"Well excuse me! I'm a little busy trying to dodge your attacks!"
Vegeta held the bridge of his nose as he sighed, completely exasperated. The two had been out here for several hours. If the Destroyer wasn't able to help Goku with his Tunnel Vision, there was no way the two would win the Tournament. Lord Vegeta knew exactly what he was going to wish for. The key to their victory was to be as in sync with each other as possible. If either Saiyan became too confident, and didn't keep the other in check, it could spell disaster for the duo.
"I'm getting better, Vegeta! Can we just take a break for a minute? I'll even take a different kind of training, I'm just tired of getting hit in the head. We could go back to the last exercise!" Goku was on the verge of pleading with his Destroyer. He was starting to become frustrated with himself. The Attendant didn't realize how large the gap was between their experience.
The terrain began to change around the two Saiyans. The once familiar ocean view gave way to a forest-like setting. A large clearing was the new battleground for Goku and Lord Vegeta.
"Fine, Kakarot. We'll do something a little different." The Destroyer looked around their new space for training. With his opponent still on the ground, Vegeta began circling him. He was thinking of a strategy to help his Attendant.
Goku laid on the tall grass beneath him. He watched as it swayed with the changing winds around them. Looking towards the treeline, the Attendant noticed the changing colors of the leaves. The emerald green leaves where giving way to shades of auburn and red. A cool autumn breeze began to russle the grass even more than before.
The sight relaxed the Attendant as he looked towards his Destroyer. The cold breeze felt amazing on his skin. "Do you have anything in mind?"
"Stand up and close your eyes." Lord Vegeta commanded.
The Attendant gave his Destroyer a questioning look. "Close my eyes?"
"Mmhm." Nodding in confirmation, Vegeta took his normal fighting stance. We've fought opponents that cause us to lose our sight. Most of the time, we were able to sense their energies and scrape by. However, weapons and some other distractions don't carry an energy signature." Vegeta began tossing one of his axes into the air, watching it flip before catching the handle in his hand.
"While the objects don't have energy, over the years I've developed a sixth sense about things like this." Vegeta had a small smile on his face. "For some reason, I just know when shit is about to go down."
"What do you mean, Vegeta?"
The Destroyer tried to think of a good example. "The second fight we had with Frieza, when we learned Super Saiyan Blue, do you remember it?"
"How could I forget!" That fight wasn't the Attendant's proudest moment. Taken down by a common ray gun, Goku lost his chance to rid of the dastardly villain in time, causing an end to the Planet. If Lord Beerus and Whis hadn't been there, the entire planet would've been toast.
"Seconds before you got shot by Sorbet, I felt something." Vegeta took a moment of silence, trying to think of the right words. "It was almost like a change in the air. Everything was deafeningly quiet, and I felt a void inside myself for a moment. The next thing I see when I look up is you falling towards the ground.
"I think if you learned how to pick up this skill, it could be life changing for you."
"Really? You think so?" Goku slowly rose from the ground. "At this point, I'm willing to try just about anything."
"Anything would be an improvement at this point." Vegeta said with a slight chuckle in his voice. Looking at his sparring partner, the Destroyer watched him close his eyes slowly. Lord Vegeta took a deep breath, concentrating on minimizing his aura, seeing Goku's brows raise in suspicion
"Vegeta?" Goku curiously began to look around, attempting to feel for his partner's energy. While he felt his arua in front of him only moments ago, it slowly disappeared. Almost as if Lord Vegeta evaporated into thin air.
"I'm still here Kakarot." Vegeta whispered, his voice being carried in the wind. The Destroyer was about fifty feet away from his partner. "It's not my energy you should be feeling for. Concentrate on what you're feeling and the area around you. Keep your mind open. It's the tunnel vision you acquire during a battle that's become your downfall."
The warrior couldn't help but be perplexed by Lord Vegeta's statement. Goku did as he was told, despite his reservations. Taking a deep breath, the Attendant began to feel his environment. There was a certain calmness in the air, he could feel it in the life energy around him. The warrior could sense his own heartbeat, it was beginning to blend with his surroundings. He never felt more calm than in this moment.
Suddenly, he felt a disturbance in the calm feeling. It was coming from behind him. The Attendant smacked the small energy ball that was headed his way.
Lord Vegeta felt his lips turn to a smile as he witnessed a successful hit. I shouldn't be too surprised, he felt the energy coming from that far away. The Destroyer did this technique a few more times, his partner deflecting every shot coming his way. Goku was able to deflect multiple shots without much effort. As Vegeta continued his onslaught, he bent down and picked up his partner's staff.
The Attendant was deflecting the energy blasts easy enough. He felt himself beginning to get overconfident. Surely Vegeta has something else planned, right?
Suddenly, Goku felt a pang in his stomach. Normally, he ignores this feeling and begins honing in on his target. The sense of victory was always so close to taste, it made more sense to reach for that instead. Was this the feeling Vegeta was talking about? The warrior thought to himself. Instead of closing his mind, the Attendant decides to expand his 'tunnel vision'.
As if he could see with his eyes closed, Goku noticed his partner's miniscule aura hidden in the trees. Lord Vegeta just picked up his staff.
Goku quickly turned. His fingers made contact with his staff, gripping it in his hands and twirling it around. When his eyes opened, he saw the smile on his Destroyer's face. The warrior was smiling from ear to ear as he threw his staff in the air excitedly. "Woo! I did it!"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves." Vegeta chuckled. "You did a fantastic job, Kakarot. This is the most progress you've made in the six hours we've been out here. But we still have a long way to go."
"Are you ready to go again?" Goku asked while cocking his arm back, ready to throw his staff.
"Keep your staff. I'm going to make things a little more interesting. Close your eyes again." Vegeta snickered, picking up one of his axes.
The Grand Minister had several documents piled on his desk. After Whiskay's comment about his sister, Whis couldn't help but have the urge to look further into Universe One's Destroyer. There had never seemed to be a problem with Haile until this Tournament arose. She's been a Destroyer since Whis' father was the Grand Minister. To the Deities' knowledge, there haven't been complaints from the Supreme Kai's of the Universe.
Bourba was recently appointed to Haile. The Grand Minister began to read from the paper in front of him. Just before I took over as Grand Minister. Whis continued to scan the document, a brow rising at the somewhat mysterious death of Universe One's former Attendant. Bravely sacrificed himself to save his Destroyer? Whis was beginning to grow suspicious of Haile and her motives of being a Destroyer.
"Hello Grand Minister!" The Omni Kings appeared out of thin air, giggling at the fun they just had with Goku and Vegeta.
"Well Sires, it's good to see you." Whis smiled. "Did you have fun on your play date?"
"It was amazing!" Zeni yelled excitedly, punching the air
"Goku and Vegeta are amazing!" Zeno giggled, mimicking his partner. "What are you doing, Grand Minister?"
"I'm just going over some paperwork, pretty boring stuff." Whis looked at the two Deities in front of him. "How about we go on a little trip to Universe One?"
"Really?" Zeni asked happily.
"Yes! Let's go!" Zeno jumped for joy as the two quickly walked towards the Grand Minister.
Whis stood from his seat and turned his back towards the Omni Kings. "Take my hands and we'll get going."
