Chapter 6: Fire and Ice

Yesterday was a real blast for the Cooper Gang, to see their heroes compete, and even Carmelita got a chance to compete and emerge a gold medal winner in something she wasn't expecting to be in, but always wanted to. Today, it was just a team even, this time for winter, the game of hockey, it was going to be the North American Kodiaks against the Eurasion Steerhorns in a deadly rematch, since the last games the Kodiaks emerged on top 1-0 in the last games. Hopefully there wasn't going to be any criminal activity, just straight up hockey. Sly was fond of this sport since it involved sticks, even watched some when he was younger, but never had the chance to play. For Carmelita, it was just alright, though Murray loved the thrill of Hockey as it was fast paced and rough.

Once again, like on the track, Rugs Turkell provided commentary on this event, claiming that for some, this event was not a test of athletic ability but an example in destruction. He showed the audience the backstage footage of what was going on in the locker room of the Kodiaks with the coach giving the briefing.

"Well men, this is the face of the enemy we defeated once, but you can best assure yourselves, their back with a vengeance! They'll be just as ruthless and devious as last time, don't let your guards down! Now let's go get em!" With that the Kodiaks marched out onto the ice like soldiers for a battle with looks of cold, steely determination on their faces, the Steerhorns having just the same look as both teams took formations. As soon as the referee dropped the puck on the ice, it all started like what was to be expected: a full scale war on ice with players smashing into each other, the puck landing into various mouths with teeth lost, a few explosions, stealing the puck and returning it around, and some players from both sides getting too injured to play that had to be carried out by a stretcher.

Throughout the game, nobody scored, everyone kept up a great game. On the Kodiaks box side, several were benched with injuries, until one flew over the side. Billy, one player noticed this, his good friend flying through injured.

"What my good friend?" he spoke astonished. "I'll get them for this!" and he proceeded onto the ice, stealing the puck from the Steerhorns, racing towards the goalie, there were only 3 seconds on the clock. Other players from his side guarded him well, making sure the opposing side didn't get their sticks on him. Billy was playing the triple deke on the goalie, who was looking well alert for the shot ready with glove open. As Billy skated over to the left side the goalie followed suit, but Billy fired the puck to the right side of the goal with great power that it blasted towards the goal with a blinding speed, impossible to see, and tore a hole in the net and then broke the safety glass nearby. As soon as that happened the buzzer rang, ending the game. It was a glorious moment for the Kodiaks, while another agonizing defeat for the Steerhorns. Even the Cooper Gang gave the Kodiaks a standing ovation in victory.
