Chapter 11: Diving for Danger

Today was another hot, yet pleasant weathered day for games, this time the even was the high platform dive. In the previous Animalympics, Dean Wilson won the event with perfect scores. The Toucan Primo Cabeza of South America won silver in the event as well. The Cooper Gang were hopeful that unlike yesterday's bedlam there would be no trouble at all and can enjoy this event in peace. Like the swimming event, this was commented by Brenda Springer and Mark Spritz. It wasn't but a few minutes did the Cooper Gang sit in their seats, when an official approached them.

"Is there a Dimitri Lousteau here?" the official asked.

"The boogie lizard asnwers your call bro, what is it?" Dimitri replied.

"One of our competitors Joseph Calamari won't be competing due to an injury he suffered the previous day, he and Dean would like for you to take his place in the diving event."

"Now that's something I can get behind! Dimitri accepts the challenge!" he replied with enthusiasm.

"Good luck Dimitri!" added Sly.

"Win us another medal!" added Carmelita.

"Do it with style!" finished Murray. And with that Dimitri headed off with the official off to the competition.

Up first in the event was the Eurasian Yuri Wedgnikov hoping for another shot at the gold after the disastrous swimming event where he was pushed out due to Ono's rampage. It was a real long climb to the top of the platform for all competitors. Yuri readied himself with his flipper wings, and then after three big jumps on the board, launched himself upwards, and descended into a spiral, like a helicopter. All the way down it was a straightforward spin, and landed in the water with a big splash. When he got out of the water, the scores ranged from 7.0 to 8.0, not a bad start.

Up next was Primo Cabeza himself, an Acapulco diver himself, readied his wings and like Yuri, propelled himself off the board after two jumps. As he launched himself off the board he did more intricate spins around the descent of the dive, before pointing himself downward with his beak even adding a twirl. He landed in the pool with a lot of high scores ranging from 8.5 to 9.0, just like in the previous Animalympics.

Coming up in third place was the Asian Puffer Fuji Fugu, a newcomer hoping to land himself on the podium of medals. Just when it was his turn, an enormous fish from the ocean erupted out of the water and onto the stadium shaking things up, causing Fuji to almost fall off from the tremors caused, there were calls for security. The giant fish thrashed about in a rage slowly squirming its way towards the diving tower. Out from backstage Dimitri himself came out with his spear gun, loaded with shock bolts provided by Bentley.

"Shock the fish until it is incapacitated!" shouted Bentley in Dimitri's ear, which he did, it took about ten shocks until the fish was subdued. Once that was done, several security choppers arrived shooting out some tow cables and then pulled the fish back into the ocean water. With the catastrophe over, Fuji was now ready for his turn to dive. He inhaled some air and then began bouncing on the board twice, and then launched himself off the board. As he descended, he exhaled like a balloon and then began fluttering around like Cabeza did in his turn, and then pointed downward in a spiral and landed in the water. His scores were generally 8.5 and one 9.5, putting him above Wedgnikov and Cabeza.

In fourth position was Dimitri himself, having lost some weight and with all the scuba diving was well prepared. He started in the boogie position with his hands up in a Y position, then somersaulted forward off the board, then placing himself in a jackknife and then pointed downward all the way down the descent into the water. When he pulled himself out of the water he received scores of 9.0 all the way through.

The last competitor was none other than Dean Wilson himself, ready for another gold medal. He closed his eyes and put himself in a meditative stance as if in his own world, he could just imagine himself in an underwater fantasy like in the previous games. As soon as he launched himself off the board, he pointed his body downward while having his arms behind him like in an airplane formation. There were plenty of spins downwards before pointing straight down. When he landed in the water the scores where all 9.5s and 10.0, another gold cemented for Dean.

At the podium, Dean got the gold, Fuji got the silver, and Dimitri got the bronze, yet Dimitri felt proud of his accomplishment.

"Hey man, that was good, you went all the way on yer first try!" Dean complimented him.

"Thanks bro! Anytime!" The Cooper Gang cheered for all competitors.
