Chapter Six
Sunday.
I'm warm, too warm and something is tickling my ear.
My eyes flutter open slowly, adjusting to the light and I see the sunlight dancing off my mirror in the corner of my room. I move to roll onto my back but realise I'm pinned to the bed. I lift my head slightly and glance over my shoulder. Edward has his body pressed entirely against my back, his arm thrown across my waist and his even breathing making my hair tickle my face. I bite my cheek, trying to hide my smile.
Edward stayed.
I lift one arm from under the covers and pick up my phone, looking at the time. It's almost ten.
God, I slept like the dead.
It's because you were almost fucked into oblivion.
The previous night replays in my head. I've never seen Edward like that, never knew he could be like that. He had complete control over my body, making me feel things I didn't know I could ever feel. I move my legs together slightly, feeling the wetness starting at just the memory of it.
I look back over my shoulder at Edward. He looks younger when he's asleep. Boy-like even. His hair is sticking up haphazardly, his long eyelashes fanning over his cheeks, his lips in a soft pout.
He's beautiful.
The thought hits me and almost makes me breathless.
Shut up Bella it's just the orgasms talking.
I feel Edward move slightly, letting out a low groan as he pulls me closer into his body. I suddenly feel him, long and hard, pressing against my ass.
"Edward" I whisper, not wanting him to wake up dry humping me. Not that I would mind. He doesn't stir.
I put my hand on the arm that's draped over me.
"Edward" I say slightly louder. His eyes flutter open, a frown appearing on his face as his eyes adjust to the light. Then he sees me and a soft smile breaks across his face.
"Hey" He says, his voice deep and rough from sleep.
"Hey" I reply. He loosens his grip on me slightly but doesn't move away. I turn over to face him.
"Did you still want to go to the market today?" I ask quietly, looking into his eyes, still glazed from sleep.
"Yeah" He replies, blinking a little, trying to wake up properly. "What time is it?" he asks.
"Ten" I reply. He nods, just looking at me.
"Have you been awake long?" He asks quietly.
"No, only a few minutes" I say, tucking my arm back under the covers in the warm. Edward lifts his hand off me for a moment, pulling the covers up higher on my shoulders.
"We slept a long time" He says, before fixing his face with a lopsided grin. "You wore me out, Swan".
I laugh quietly, nodding my agreement. We lie there for a few minutes, just looking at each other before Edward says he needs to use the bathroom. He sits up slowly, throwing his legs over the side of the bed and pulling a clean pair of boxers out of his bag.
"Is it okay if I take a quick shower?" He asks, looking back at me over his shoulder.
"Yeah, course" I reply, rolling onto my back slightly, watching him walk out the room, completely naked and not ashamed at all. I lie in the bed, listening to Edward shut the bathroom door, the toilet flush, and then the shower water turn on. I scrub my hands over my face before getting up myself.
I collect my clothes from the night before from the floor, throwing them in the hamper, before collecting Edward's and leaving them in a pile by his bag. I make the bed and then walk over to my dresser, looking at myself in the mirror. My hair is like a haystack, my lips swollen from Edward's mouth. But my eyes look bright and clear.
I pick up my brush, trying to tame the mess on my head just as Edward walks back in wrapped in a towel.
"Want me to make some coffee while you have a shower?" He asks, rummaging through his bag for some clean clothes.
"Yes please" I say, walking out the room to get ready. I take care of business, brushing my teeth and then shower quickly. I wrap a towel around my body before heading back to my room to get dressed. Edward's in the kitchen, clattering around as he makes some coffee. He's wearing jeans and a dark blue sweater that hugs his body perfectly. He smirks at me over his shoulder as I walk through the room.
I decide to wear something comfortable, selecting a pair of old jeans and a pale pink cowl neck sweater that's so soft and warm. I quickly brush my hair and apply a little light makeup, covering the slight dark circles under my eyes from my recent late nights. I walk out of the bedroom just as Edward places two cups of coffee on the table.
"So...you still up for going to the market?" He asks, taking a seat opposite me.
"Yeah, sounds good" I reply, taking a sip of my drink.
We sit in silence for a few minutes, enjoying our coffee.
"Sorry I fell asleep on you last night, I saw you tidied up in the living room" Edward suddenly says, looking at me over his coffee cup.
"That's okay, least I could do considering..." I trail off with a shrug.
"Considering I rocked your world?" Edward says with a chuckle.
"Shut up Edward" I mumble but unable to stifle a laugh of my own.
We finish our coffee, agreeing to get something to eat while we're out. I grab my bag from the counter and we lock up and head down to the lobby. Edward hails a cab, opening the door for me to slide in first. He gives the driver the address and then we speed through the city.
I look out the window as we drive. It's definitely Autumn now. The trees have changed from green to gold and the people walking on the sidewalks are wrapped in light coats, occasionally pulling a collar up to block their faces from the chilly breeze.
Once we get to Edward and Jasper's neighborhood, we get out of the taxi, Edward paying the driver, and head towards the tents we can see in the distance. I haven't been to a Sunday market in years. It used to be a tradition while we were at college. We'd all head out early on Sunday morning and purchase hangover cures. I smile at the memory.
We reach the entrance to the market and I can see it's popular. It's heaving with people, all squeezing by each other as they crane their necks to see the produce on each stand, some calling to the stallholder to buy something.
We start to walk through the market, stopping occasionally to look at a particular stand or try some of the tasters on offer. We stop at a pastry kiosk to buy some breakfast. I can't decide between two things so in the end Edward buys both, tearing them in half so that we can share. The twinkle in his eye makes my skin tingle.
As we continue to walk and the market becomes even more crowded, Edward reaches back, taking my hand in his.
"Don't want to lose you" he says with a shrug and a small smile.
I smile back, biting my lip lightly. Eventually, Edward says he wants to cook pasta tonight and we stop to buy some fresh tomatoes and peppers. They look delicious. As we continue to walk, Edward occasionally pulls me into his body to point out something or someone, making me laugh.
As we reach the end of the market, Edward asks if I'm hungry.
"A little but we did just have brunch," I reply. He nods, before pointing over at a churros stand, steam rising from the pan as the guy cooks the delicious batter.
"Do you like churros?" Edward asks me.
"Does anyone not like churros?" I reply, looking at him like he's crazy.
He chuckles and pulls me by the hand, leading the way to the stand in the corner. He orders a cone of churros with sugar, handing me the steaming package before leading us over to one side.
I nibble the end of one, humming at the delicious taste of the hot sugar. Edward smiles down at me, lighting a cigarette before, biting into his own.
"So what do you think of the market?" Edward asks, dipping his head to hear me, blowing smoke from the corner of his mouth.
"It's great, I knew it was over here but I never realised it was so big" I reply, looking at the stalls around us.
"Yeah, I come quite a lot, mainly if I'm on nights at the hospital." He says with a nod, taking another drag.
I nod in return, biting into my food. I glance up at Edward and see he has sugar all over his lips. I snort slightly.
"Edward" I say, his face turning to look at the sound of his name, "You have sugar all over your face" I laugh.
He raises a hand and brushes his face, knocking some of the sugar off but missing most of it.
I sigh, lifting my own hand and brushing the sugar from his lips. Edward's eyes lock with mine. He reaches out grabbing my wrist to stop me from removing my hand and slowly presses his lips against my fingers, his tongue flicking out to wet the tips. My breath hitches.
Edward smirks at me before dropping my hand.
"Can't take you anywhere, can I?" I ask in a breathy voice. Edward shrugs, his eyes twinkling at me, bringing his cigarette to his lips, the cherry end burning bright.
Edward checks his phone and we realise it's almost one. The time seems to be passing quicker than I would like it to, but I push the thought from my mind.
"Have you ever done a ferry trip?" Edward suddenly asks.
I look up at him in surprise.
"No, have you?" I reply.
"No" says Edward shaking his head. "Fancy it?"
I open and close my mouth a few times in surprise.
"Er...yeah" I reply, "why not?"
Edward smiles at me, stubbing out his cigarette, before taking my hand again, even though the crowds have dissipated now we've exited the market and walks towards the street. He hails a cab and we slide in, asking to go to the harbour.
On the way there, Edward chats away animatedly, pointing out a few places from the window that he thinks might be of interest. Soon we arrive at the harbour and exit the cab, heading over to the ferry terminal. We look at the sign, trying to work out the day trip times.
"It says...there's an island tour at three. That's in about an hour." Edward reads. I nod, looking up at him.
"Shall we go for a stroll?" He asks, tilting his head towards the area of the harbour that has the big fancy boats moored in it.
"A stroll?" I laugh, feeling light and sky-high from the day. "Sure Edward, we can go for a stroll" I say with a chuckle.
Edward rolls his eyes at my antics, grabbing my hand and pulling my arm through his. We walk along the dock, admiring some of the boats and making up stories about the people who probably own them. I think the biggest one will belong to a drug lord, Edward disagrees and suggests a porn actress.
He wishes.
Eventually, Edward checks his phone and says we should make our way back if we want to catch the ferry. I agree and we amble along, talking about nothing in particular.
When we reach the ferry terminal, there is a small queue of people waiting to take the tour. We pay for our tickets and then enter the ferry, deciding to sit on the deck so that we can see the view. As the boat pulls away, I watch a group of seagulls fly high above us, screaming into the clear sky. I smile, feeling the sun on my face, warming me up for just a minute.
I look over at Edward to see him watching me, giving me a soft smile. We point certain landmarks out to each other while the ferry makes its way along her route. As we head back towards the harbour, the air turns colder, the sun dipping down as we reach the early evening. I shiver slightly, wrapping my arms around myself to keep warm.
Edward's eyes flash to mine before he pulls me into his side, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and resting his chin on my head.
"So have you enjoyed the afternoon?" He asks, his voice a rumble above me.
"Yeah, I've had a lovely time" I reply, pulling back to look at him. "Thank you, Edward," I say with a genuine smile.
"My pleasure" he replies, for once with no innuendo. We continue to look at each other for a moment before Edward leans in and gives me a soft kiss. He pulls away, jumping slightly as the ferry horn sounds our return.
I chuckle at him, feeling the heat rise into my cheeks from his kiss. He smiles at me sheepishly, rolling his eyes.
We exit the ferry and agree to make our way home so that Edward can start dinner. The streetlights have turned on in our absence and the light reflected in the water looks like a painting.
Edward hails a cab and we give the driver my address. I lean back into my seat, looking out the window as the city flies past, twinkling in the dark.
Once we get back to my apartment, we enter the lobby, taking the lift to my floor. I unlock the door, Edward carrying our purchases and placing them on the kitchen table.
"So...what exactly are you making?" I ask, putting my bag down on the counter and feeling the warmth of the apartment warm my cold cheeks.
"Chicken pasta with red peppers, fresh, homemade tomato sauce and just a dash of cream" he says with a flourish, making me laugh. "I checked your cupboards before we left so I know we have everything I need."
I nod at him as he unpacks the vegetables we bought and gets the chicken out of the fridge.
"Can I help?" I ask, moving to stand beside him in front of the counter.
"Well...I don't often work with a sous chef, but I suppose you might be of some use" He says, his voice teasing, his eyes meeting mine.
I laugh, smacking him lightly on the arm in jest.
"Okay" I say, chuckling, "What can I do?"
"You can put a pan of water on to boil for the pasta, while I chop the veg" He says, rolling his sleeves up to his elbows and washing his hand. I give him a mock salute before bending to get a pan from the cupboard. I hear him chuckle at my antics.
I fill the pan with water, placing it on the stove to boil before adding a pinch of salt. I reach up into the pantry, grabbing the bag of pasta.
Edward has grabbed a chopping board and is quickly, and rather professionally, dicing an onion. He catches me watching him and smirks.
"Can I help you Bella?" He says, his voice thick with humor.
"You're chopping that very professionally" I reply, a smile on my lips.
"Ah well...I wasn't joking when I said I was a rather adept cook" he says with a wink. He asks me to get out a pot and heat a little oil, which I do before he scrapes the onion into it. The delicious smell of cooking hits my nose.
Edward then slices the peppers, adding them to the pan while I put the pasta in to boil, before roughly chopping the tomatoes. He stands in front of the stove, his face serious with concentration, stirring his masterpiece.
"You quite enjoy cooking, don't you?" I say with a smirk.
"Yeah, I do as it happens" he replies. "I was never one to cook much at college, as you well know, but since working at the hospital I've taken more of an interest in home cooking. There's only so much pot noodle a man can eat" He says with a slight shudder.
I smile at him, leaning against the counter. Edward's right. He never cooked when we were at college, choosing instead to order take out or pinch the leftovers Rose, Allie and I made but he seems to be in his element now. I study his profile, realising how much of him I still don't know after all these years.
"I think we'll be ready in about five minutes" Edward says, pulling me out of my thoughts.
I nod and turn to grab some plates and cutlery, laying the table, before returning to the fridge for two beers. Just as I'm getting the last things out, Edward asks for a sieve to drain the pasta, before stirring the pasta into the sauce. It smells amazing.
He dishes up our plates, placing one in front of me before taking the seat opposite. I inhale the dish.
"This smells amazing, Edward" I say with a smile, tucking in quickly.
"Good" He replies, a proud look on his face.
The dish tastes as good as it smells and I devour the food like it's my last meal. Once we're finished, I help Edward clean up and pack up any leftovers.
"So...what do you want to do now?" I ask, blushing a little at the innuendo.
"Well" Edward says smirking, "I may need to let my food go down for a minute Bella, if that's what you're asking".
I roll my eyes as Edward laughs at me, making my face heat up.
"Why don't we watch the end of that movie we started last night?" He suggests, walking into the living room.
"Really?" I reply, surprised he wants to continue with the rom com.
"Yeah, I thought it was quite good" He says, taking a seat at one end of the sofa. I take the seat next to him, tucking my legs under myself.
"You're a bit of a romantic at heart I think Edward" I tease as he settles back, nursing the remainder of his beer. He looks over at me.
"Don't tell the others, Bella." He winks.
"Yeah, I know, I know, your street cred" I say, shaking my head with a sigh. I press play on the movie, rewinding it slightly to where we both remembered, but skipping the sex scene.
I lean back on the couch, feeling warm and content from the food and the beer and the afternoon. I wriggle slightly, stretching my legs a little.
Suddenly, I feel Edward touch my shoulder and pull me towards him. I look over but he just tilts his head at me, encouraging me to come closer. I scoot over, leaning my back against his chest and stretching my legs out on the couch.
"You're such a fidget" He says lowly in my ear. I feel my skin tingle.
I relax, feeling comforted by the steady rise and fall of Edward's chest. The movie is a cliche but I have to admit I'm enjoying it. The characters have just fallen out over some misunderstanding and the leading man has turned up to the woman's door in the pouring rain to confess his undying love to her. I sigh quietly, leaning back further into Edward.
"Does this shit actually work?" I hear him say behind me, his voice a deep rumble.
"What?" I ask, unsure what he's talking about.
"Standing outside someone's door in the pouring rain...holding a speaker above your head blaring out a love song..." He says, gesturing at the TV with his bottle.
"I dunno" I chuckle, "probably." I shrug.
"Why? Isn't it a bit cheesy?" he continues.
"Yeah...but that's why it's cute I guess. If someone's willing to make that much of an ass out of themselves they must fucking love you" I reply with a snort.
"Hm." Edward says, "I'll remember that".
"For what? When you break another poor girl's heart?" I ask, teasing. I hear Edward go quiet behind me and I wonder if I've upset him.
"I've never broken someone's heart" he replies seriously. I turn to look at him over my shoulder and his eyes meet my own.
"What about all those girls over the years? Whenever you moved on they'd walk around for weeks moping, a couple even turned up at our dorm begging you to see them!" I said.
"They weren't broken-hearted. They just missed the sex. You can't be broken-hearted about someone you don't know. They never really knew me. Not like you do" He says sincerely.
I continue to look at him for a moment but he turns his eyes back to the screen, a blank expression on his face. I turn my back to him.
What does that mean? Is he saying that I know him better than anyone else?
Well, I would do. We've been friends for years before we ever started sleeping together. Right? That means nothing.
As the movie credits roll, I arch my back, stretching slightly as I turn off the TV. My ass pushes back into Edward and I feel him semi-hard behind me, he lets out a quiet groan.
I turn to look at him and our eyes blaze into one another, the silence of the room suddenly deafening. Edward leans in slowly and gives me a soft kiss, his tongue sweeping along my bottom lip, asking for entrance. We continue to make out for a moment, my hands running up his chest into his hair.
"Have you recovered from dinner yet?" I ask in a husky voice, breaking the kiss. His hooded eyes meet mine.
"I think so, yeah" He replies, a lopsided grin on his face. I stand from the sofa, holding out my hand for him to take and pulling him to stand. We walk to the bedroom, turning the lights off as we go.
When we enter my room, the only light comes from the soft glow of a streetlamp outside. I can just make out Edward's face, his eyes twinkling in the dark as I turn to face him. He bends his head, capturing my mouth again and deepening the kiss. Our tongues move against each other and I let out a quiet moan at the same time a soft groan rumbles out of Edward's chest.
His hands find their way to the hem of my sweater and he pulls it up and over my head, returning a moment later to unclasp my bra and pull it down my arms. My own hands find the hem of his sweater, lifting it slightly before he reaches back, pulling it over his head. His eyes flick down to my chest before he dips down to suck on my nipple. I let out a sigh, my head dropping back as I hold him in place.
His hands go to the button on my jeans, undoing it before pushing them down over my hips. I wiggle out of them, before kicking them to one side. I let go of his head, reaching for his pants, undoing the button, and following suit.
He lifts his head to look at me, us both standing in the dark in just our underwear. He fingers the thin lace of my panties before gently pushing them down, letting them drop to the floor. He then removes his hands from my body, pushing his own boxers down, leaving us both completely naked.
I rake my eyes down his body, taking in the sight of him. His chest is rising and falling quickly, the light dusting of hair on his abdomen leading down to his cock. It's as hard as marble and glistening slightly at the tip. I can't help but moan.
Edward's hands find their way into my hair, pulling my mouth up to his. He walks me back towards the bed, his searing kisses making me breathless. When I feel the mattress hit the back of my knees, he lowers me to the bed slowly, breaking the kiss so that I can scoot up. He crawls towards me, leaning over to grab a condom. He fixes it to himself before nestling between my spread legs.
He stares into my eyes as he slowly pushes into me, a deep moan leaving his mouth. His lips catch mine in a kiss before he starts to slowly pump his hips into mine. I break away from him, moaning into the dark, my arms lifting to wrap around his shoulders, my legs lifting to his hips. He keeps up a steady rhythm until I'm panting, my body covered in a sheen of sweat. I lift my hands from Edward's shoulders, pushing the hair that's fallen into his eyes, off his face.
Suddenly, he grabs one of my legs, lifting it slightly and rolls so that I'm on top. I let out a surprised squeak, bringing a breathy chuckle from Edward. I place my hands on his chest and slowly start to lift myself up and down on top of him, rolling my hips. Edward's eyes never leave my own as he lifts his hands to cup and palm my breasts. I moan loudly, increasing the pace slightly, my head tilting back and my eyes closing.
Edward sits up, his mouth finding my nipple and sucking on it lightly. I gasp, my head lolling back in pleasure. He removes his mouth, his hands going to my hips to help me move above him.
It's never been like this before. It's slower, softer, building rather than chasing. He wraps his arms around my waist holding me to him, kissing me sloppily. There's no space between us. My chest is pressed against his, my body moving in sync over him. I push down, he presses up. We pant into each other's mouths, breathing for each other.
"Edward" I moan, needing something to push me over the edge.
"Bella" He groans in return.
"Please" I pant, my eyes wide and staring into his.
Edward starts lifting my hips slightly higher, dropping me down onto his body harder, thrusting up with sharp thrusts. I moan loudly, feeling my orgasm build. I cling to his shoulders, my fingers twisting the hair at the nape of his neck. He groans into my mouth, kissing me again.
"I'm gonna cum" I moan, feeling that knot in the pit of my stomach tighten.
"Me too" Edward groans in reply. "Look at me" He says
I pull my face back and stare into his burning eyes, heavy with lust and shining with...something.
"Cum with me Bella" he moans. I open my mouth in a silent scream as the white heat flies up to my spine. My eyes slam shut and I shake against Edward's body. I gasp for air and I force my eyes open just in time to see Edward groan and slam his mouth to mine, quivering under me. We stay like that for a long time, kissing and dragging in deep, ragged breaths.
Eventually, I pull my face back slightly and look at Edward. His eyes are glazed and his hair is sticking up. I push the bit that's stuck to his head out of his eyes. He unwinds his arms from my body and lies down on the bed, flat on his back. I lift off of him and move to his side, letting him dispose of the condom, lying down next to him.
Edward's quiet, staring unseeing at the ceiling.
"Are you okay?" I ask quietly. He looks over at me like he's forgotten I'm there.
"Yeah" he says with a tight smile. "I'm just gonna have a quick shower". He stands abruptly from the bed, grabbing a pair of clean boxers from his bag.
"Okay" I reply. I feel like something's happened as Edward walks from the room without looking back at me. I get up, grabbing some pajamas from my closet and putting them on. I slip back into the bed, waiting for Edward to return. As I'm lying there I start to feel my eyes droop, the sound of the shower like white noise. I try to stay awake but eventually I feel my breathing even out before it all goes black.
Monday
I jolt awake suddenly, my eyes flying open and my breathing elevated. I look over at the other side of the bed, expecting to see Edward. He's not there.
I lie still, listening to see if I can hear him in the bathroom or the kitchen. Nothing.
Eventually, I sit up, pushing my hair out of my face. I glance over and realise that Edward's bag is no longer on the floor. I get up and throw my bedroom door open.
"Edward?" I call, but am met with only silence. As I walk into the kitchen I see a scrap of paper folded on the table with my name written on it. I walk over to it, open it and read.
Bella,
I didn't want to wake you when I left, so here, I'm leaving you a note! Thanks for a great weekend. I really enjoyed myself (pun intended). See you when Allie and Jasper get back.
Edward ;)
I stare at the piece of paper in my hand and re-read it three times.
That's it? He just left?
What did you expect Bella?
I fold the piece of paper back up and press it to my chest as I walk back into my room. I sit on the end of my bed and look back down at it. As I read the message again, my eyes linger on the stupid wink face he's drawn after his name.
What did you expect Bella? It was just three nights.
Then how come it felt like more?
