"Hey, Koizumi-San!" Hajime called out as Mahiru turned and smiled when she recognized Hajime approaching to catch up with her and Mikan on their way to Hope's Peak's main auditorium. However, she also recognized a skittish young man with curly ebony black hair, glasses, and eyes the color of rich hazelnut.
"Hinata-Kun, glad to see you could catch up with us!"
"Have I introduced you to Ben yet?" Hajime asked as he introduced his friend, who looked nervous while trying to avoid eye contact.
"U-Um, I've met him once..." Mikan said, blushing as she remembered the awkward first meeting with him while she was with Mukuro.
"Oh yeah!" Mahiru perked up. "Sato told me about a friend in the Reserve Course who was kinda shy and a bit of a self-deprecate."
"Yup, that's me..." Ben awkwardly said. "Hajime invited me to meet the rest of the Ultimates during the entrance ceremony."
"Well, thank goodness Hope's Peak lifted the rule that the Main Course and Reserve Course students couldn't interact. The new Headmaster is certainly an understanding individual isn't he?"
"Yeah, I even heard one of our classmates is his daughter!" Hajime said. "I wonder what she's like."
As Mahiru and Hajime were talking, Ben and Mikan shyly looked at each other before looking away, still rather embarrassed about the other day. Soon, the bell chimed as the four took that as their cue to head to the auditorium before it was too late.
"Phew, we made it!" Ben sighed as he wiped some sweat from his forehead at how fast he had to run. He was not exactly the most athletic individual and it showed.
"Ah! You've made it right on time!" Came a loud voice as the four looked to see a boy with spiky black hair, wide red eyes, and large eyebrows. He was wearing a pure white school uniform, likely from his previous high school, with a red band around his left arm, indicating a hall monitor.
"Sorry Ishimaru-Kun, Hajime wanted to bring one of his former classmates from the Reserve Course with him," Mahiru said as she gestured to Ben, who awkwardly waved.
"Ah yes, it is a pleasure to meet you," Ishimaru said with a nod of his head as he turned to Ben. "You can call me Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the Ultimate Prefect! Let us all endeavor to do our best in this new school environment!"
"Oh, it's that boy again..." Spoke a familiar voice as Mukuro came in. Alongside her was a girl with strawberry blonde hair tied into pigtails and dressed in a black cardigan over a white dress shirt that was open enough to expose some of her lacy bra. She also wore a loose white tie with a red bow clipped over her left breast, as well as black laced-up boots.
"O-Oh! Ikusaba-Chan! Enoshima-Chan!" Mikan blushed shyly at the sight of the two. The girl known as Enoshima grinned when she noticed Ben.
"Who's this? A Reserve Course student? Oooh~! Think of the scandal~!"
Ben was a bit uncomfortable as Enoshima suddenly got into his personal space, her clear blue eyes boring into him.
"Hey, cutie~! Call me Junko Enoshima~! The Ultimate Fashionista~!"
"N-Nice to meet you, Junko..."
Junko then slid back to Mukuro and slung her arm around her shoulder. "I'm Muku-Chan's Baby Sister~! I know we have different last names but our parents never exactly got married, so that's why."
"I'm sure you already know me. Mukuro Ikusaba, the Ultimate Soldier." Mukuro said in a normal calm tone as Ben rubbed the back of his head awkwardly.
"Y-Yeah, nice to meet you too..."
"Oh geez, am I late?" Came a boy's voice as everyone turned to see a young man with simple brown hair, an ahoge similar to Hajime, green-grey eyes, and was wearing a brown-green hoodie with black jeans and red sneakers.
"Oh, Naegki-Kun. Nope, I think you're just in time." Hajime said as he greeted the boy, who also noticed Ben.
"Oh, is this that friend you've been telling me about, Hinata-Kun?" Naegi asked as Hajime nodded, allowing him to introduce himself to Ben. "I'm Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate Optimist. I know it doesn't seem like much of a talent, but I'm always willing to lend a hand to those who need it."
"Glad you could make it, Naegi-Kun! I think the entrance ceremony is about to start!" Kiyotaka said as the lights soon dimmed and a spotlight came on the center stage, a man with short messy black hair and a fine-pressed black business suit approached.
"Good morning, everyone. As you might already know, I am Jin Kirigiri, the current acting Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy. As you should know, you are all a very special class for you are the most talented individuals we have seen from any Main Course students to date. Ordinarily, you'd all be in two separate classes but we have decided to mend you together into one class. A class we are calling 'The 48 Hopes'."
Ben was tempted to raise his hand since he was actually a Reserve Course student but Kiyotaka put a hand on his shoulder and shook his head, silently telling him to wait until the ceremony was over. Soon, Jin went over the list of students attending and asked them to stand up.
"First up, our annual Ultimate Lucky Student; Hajime Hinata, would you please stand up along with Benio Shigura?"
Hajime turned to Ben, who looked surprised that the Headmaster had already figured him out, and nodded as both boys stood up.
"Originally, it would be frowned upon that a Reserve Course student would be interacting with the Main Course, but I've seen fit to dispose of that illogical rule. Many Main Course students and Reserve Course students are actually friends and there are many in the Reserve Course who have hidden talents of their own, just waiting to be revealed." Jin explained before gesturing for Ben and Hajime to sit back down.
"Alright then. Next, the Ultimate Optimist, Makoto Naegi, please stand." Makoto did just that as Jin addressed him. "Naegi, while you'd normally be an average high schooler anywhere else, you're boundless levels of kindness and optimism have helped many people in need, thus granting you access to our halls."

"Wish me luck with these guys. Something tells me they're quite the cast."
"Hey, you've known some of us for a while now. I think you'll be okay." Mahiru said with a smirk as Hajime merely laughed. Soon, the entrance ceremony had been finished and the 48 Hopes were left to their own devices for the time being until the next day.
As Ben was heading back to the dorm building, he noticed Himiko sleeping on a bench, cute little snores emitting from her. He smiled at just how adorable she looked and made sure nobody was watching to get the wrong idea as he gently picked her up and carried her on his shoulders, heading to the dorm. After some searching, he found her dorm room, and thankfully, it was unlocked.
Heading inside, Ben was impressed by the room which looked like the perfect bachelor pad for a magician. Finding a circular queen-sized bed with fluffy blankets with magic patterns on them, Ben placed Himiko on the bed and draped the covers over her before placing her hat on the nightstand. He then headed to his own dorm room and sighed, sitting down at his desk and looking out the window.
"Man, what a day..."
A shimmering sound caught his attention as he turned to see the mask on his nightstand. Feeling nervous, especially after what it made him do last night, he shuddered before turning his attention to the homework he needed to get done by tomorrow.
Jeez, this chapter was pretty much overtaken by character introduction descriptions and such little character interactions. Don't worry, Ben will be getting to know the Ultimates better in the future, and don't worry about The Mask, in the next chapter, we'll get back into the colorfully gruesome slapstick action!
Next Chapter: Let The Good Times Roll!
