Draco' POV
Sirius apparated them in a few places so their trail was cold till he finally stopped in front of the Black home.
"You didn't ward it or cloaked it?" Draco panicked for a second.
"We did, we just never lift your access," Sirius said.
"That is…stupid" Draco said trying to not get chocked on his own emotions.
Harry rushed in, past them calling for Lily. Draco heard her answering from inside and sighed in relief.
"Draco?" Dora noticed him standing alone in the entryway. He saw her pulling out her wand, good, someone with some sense in the house.
"Put that thing away!" Sirius chided her. "Hermione and Pansy?" he asked.
"In the kitchen," Dora answered putting her wand away reluctant, but still staring at Draco.
"He is wandless," Harry said coming from the library still holding onto Lily.
"How?" Dora asked squinting her eyes. "Did you take it?"
"No, he was wandless when we got there."
"The Dark Lord uses that as a punishment, you either disappointed him or he wants to keep Lucius in line," the new voice, Severus, said coming down the stairs. "Which one was it?"
"Both" Draco sighed.
"You completed your mission, though, didn't you?" His godfather asked.
"Not as intended."
"Did they know you protected me?" Harry asked in a small voice.
Everyone in the room was staring at them. Draco assumed that it was new information for them.
"No. It's because of Severus, they found out I warned you."
Snape widened his eyes.
"Losing a good informant is very unfortunate," he said in the end.
Draco felt everyone's eyes on him, but he didn't look up. He was doing so well, he went through so much for it just to end like this, he could have been useful behind the lines.
"I need some answers from you," Harry said in the coldest voice he ever heard from him.
"Leave them some space, people," Sirius called.
Draco heard them all move away, their voices whispering furiously in the kitchen. He waited a few minutes, but Harry was silent and motionless by the door. That was new. Harry was always fidgeting, stuttering and buzzing with energy.
"Is this my trial now?"
"Should you be on trial?" Harry asked finally, his voice was chilly and Draco hated it.
"I am a Death Eater," Draco said. His mark was still burned into his arm, branding his eternal commitment.
"Are you? Because it appears to me you are a spy!" Harry's eyes were burning so he looked down to avoid them.
"Harry..."
"Do not lie to me again! You lost your standing with them, anything you tried to do there went up in flames."
"I tried to save your life!" Draco was impressed by his own volume. He was sure the rest of the house heard him to because the chatter in the kitchen came to a halt.
"You did all of this for me? Hurt me for my sake?"
"I already saved you twice, do not belittle me!"
"You could have helped me from my side too!"
"You needed someone on the inside! Severus was already compromised, everyone was suspecting him of double crossing, they planned to kill him last year!"
"So, you warned him and took his place?"
"I was already working on the inside... My father gave me the perfect cover, no one suspected me."
"He took your wand away."
"There was plenty I could have done still."
"But not defend yourself!" Now Harry was matching his previous volume, but Draco was still avoiding his eyes.
"I already accepted my fate!" Draco closed his fists by his side, his hand itching for his lost wand.
"I don't need you to die for me!"
"It's not only for you," Draco spat. "It's for my mum, for Cedric, for all the people they trampled in their path… I did it because it was the right thing to do!" Draco finally raised his head. Bad mistake, Harry's eyes were staring straight into his, burning.
"Then you are welcome to join us, but not if you put your life in danger again!"
"I will do what I think is right!" Draco defended stubbornly.
"And look how that turned out" Harry muttered under his breath.
"I am not sure if I should be proud of you or mad right now," Sirius voice rang in the room. Draco hadn't noticed the kitchen door opening, it must have been at some point since a lot of eyes were staring at them right now.
"And your wand?"
"He has it, kept it as a reward to work towards."
"So, we can still get it back!" Harry's eyes lighted up.
"No!" Several voices, Draco's included, jumped at the same time.
"I have an idea," Sirius jumped from the door and disappeared in the depths of the house.
In the opened door Draco saw Pansy and Hermione, both staring at him reluctant to come closer.
"I am glad you got here safe!" He said to his formal fiancé.
"Not many other places for me to go!"
"Here it is!" Sirius's voice returning broke the silence that settled in the room. Sirius took a wand from a box and handed it to Draco.
"Try this," His uncle said.
Draco casted a low-level spell to lift a pair of shoes from the floor, he managed it albeit unsteady.
"The House wand," Sirius said.
Draco almost dropped it. "You were supposed to renounce me!"
"Well, I was always the hopeful one!"
"Thank you…"
"Do well by it!"
Draco had to share a room with Harry since Hermione and Pansy were in his old one. Dinner was a very loud affair, but Draco missed the noise, he missed the laughs. His last meals were tense around that huge table at the Manor, intimidating strategies with the Dark Lord always looming at the head of the table.
Draco retreated to the library after dinner. Harry went to bed; even if they talked and cleared the air, Draco was reluctant to follow him up. He was considering sleeping on the huge chair by the fire when Remus found him.
Remus had missed dinner, from what Draco gathered he was on a mission with another young werewolf, but they didn't share more information with him about it.
"The chair will kill your back!" He said in lieu of greeting.
"I think there is enough space for a ferret!" Draco joked.
"How are you, Draco?"
"I… will be fine!" Draco's shoulders slumped and all the fight went out of him.
"I wanted to catch you tonight and thank you."
"I didn't actually get them out, it was all Dobby."
"You saved Harry anyway and not only for that, for Teddy as well."
"Teddy?" Draco heard the name, Sirius and Remus's son, but he hadn't interacted with the kid tonight.
"You had a hand in getting him to us, didn't you? I mean not a lot of people have white-blond hair"
Draco wanted to deny it, but it was useless at his point.
"It was during my first and only outing with the Death Eaters… They wanted to leave the kid to die or transform… I knew you guys could help him."
"His parents?" Remus asked in a choked voice.
"Dead… They were both Aurors."
"Did you…"
"I couldn't…" Draco looked away. "I couldn't cast the killing curse."
"I am proud of you! Now, go to bed, Harry is probably waiting on you."
Harry was asleep when he got in. Thank Merlin for small blessings. Draco laid in the transfigured bed across the room from his former roommate. He thought he would spend the whole night staring at the ceiling, but Harry's slow breathing lulled him to sleep, the best he had in months.
Harry was already up when Draco woke up the next day. Draco changed and followed the noise to the kitchen. Everyone was already there. Sirius was feeding Teddy In his highchair, the rest were either having breakfast or tea around a large table that used to be in the dining room.
"Good morning," Draco said.
"Morning," a chorus answered.
"So, are they willing to help us?" Severus asked, resuming a discussion that he was having with Remus.
"If it comes to a larger conflict, but they are not very keen on stealth operations," Remus replied.
"How many people are we talking about here?"
"The whole camp, 20-30 souls."
"And all of them will help?" Severus asked surprised.
"They believe Voldemort gaining power will damage the community. They hope by helping us they would clear their name."
"Doesn't that mean they will be easily swayed? If the enemy promises the same?" Lily intervened.
"Their leader was turned by Greyback when he was a kid, he carries a grudge… Besides, the Alphas do not agree with Geryback's methods, in their culture turning a child is a great sin."
"Alphas?" Harry asked from across the table. He had a full plate in front of him that he didn't pause from digging in.
"Apparently some of them gain power to turn at will and those are called Alphas," Remus replied.
"How do they achieve that?" Hermione asked suddenly interested.
"They didn't know. Sometimes it's age, magical power; they only had two of them, but they are revered in the community. I really think they will help."
"For now, we should focus on the Horcruxes anyway," Sirius said. Teddy took that moment to throw the mushed peas bowl on the floor.
"Do we have any information on that front?" Pansy asked.
"Bill Wesley suggested we check Bellatrix's vault. He said they asked for increased security lately, just before he quit working for Gringotts," Sirius supplied. He sighed looking at the mess Teddy made.
"Let me," Remus came to rescue his husband. He grabbed another bowl of the green vegetable and levitated each spoonful to the kid's mouth. Teddy was munching on them happily, grabbing for the floating spoon.
"Could work, some Poli potions, a distraction there," Severus mumbled.
"Do we have some potion on hand? It takes a while to make," Hermione piped in.
"No… But I think we can use a Time turner on it... Do you still have it?"
"Yes," Hermione said her face lighting up.
"You have a time turner!?" Harry turned to her surprised.
"I had one to use in school, how do you think I could take so many classes?"
"Because you like…school?"
Hermione glared at him and went to retrieve the item from her bag.
They used the Time turner on the polipotion. It was very tempting to use the Time turner and get back to the Mansion, save someone, get his wand, attempt to assassinate the Dark Lord, but Draco restricted himself. It took them a whole week of brewing, but they also refilled their supplies of Veritaserum, healing potions and some restoration potions just in case.
Draco didn't want to admit, but he missed brewing with Severus. The lab was smaller and worse stocked than the one at Hogwarts, but Draco loved it nevertheless, he missed it and it was something he could do wandless. He caught himself missing his wand more and more. Remus volunteered to help him learn wandless spells, but he was progressing very slowly on that front.
It was one night after dinner when they were drafting the plan. Harry and Sirius were supposed to go in with some help from Bill Weasley.
"Can't I come?" Draco asked.
"You are wandless." Harry glared at him from across the room.
"I can still help!"
"Sending more than three people can arise suspicion," Remus tried to placate them.
"I… want to be useful!"
"You are! We will use the polijuice you made!" Sirius piped in.
In the morning of the "bank heist" as Sirius titled it, Draco was restless. Everyone was busy getting the last preparations done or getting ready for their own tasks. They were helping hide muggle-born, actively fight Death Eaters, heal people in need, negotiate treaties and here he was… handing everyone potions.
When Harry was ready to leave, before they meet Bill and apparate away towards the bank, Draco transformed into his animagus form and sneaked inside Harry's bag. In the ruckus, no one noticed him gone and he squeezed his tiny body between potions and other crap Harry had crammed inside his bag.
From his hideout he heard voices, Sirius and Harry meeting Bill probably. They chatted for a while and then Harry's hand reached for the vial of polipotion. Draco pushed it into his hand, Harry of course didn't even notice.
He heard them taking the potion, three vials shattering and then ruffling noises. Harry was supposed to transform into Rudolfo Lestrange, Sirius into Bellatrix and Bill into an elf. The voices above him change, so he assumed it was successful. Another pull of apparition, to get them closer to the bank, Draco was getting a bit nauseous now.
Draco heard a lot of talking going on, but the ferret really wanted a nap in the cozy pouch so he was drifting for the most of it. He got rattled in the bag when they traveled down the rails to the safe and then a drop, Draco fell from the bag. When he came to, everyone was inside a cave and a dragon was chained mere feet in front of him. Draco yelped.
"What is that?" Bill as the goblin asked.
"A ferret that is in big trouble," Rudolfo, Harry, replied, not conveying the glare as effective with the new features.
Draco ran to Harry and transformed back. "That is an Ukranian Ironbelly"
"How?" Bill started to ask.
"He had a dragon phase," Bellatrix/Sirius shrugged.
"Weakneses?" Harry asked pulling out his wand. The safe door was behind the beast that was searching now for them in the darkness. From what Draco saw of the discoloration and the foggy eyes it had been here for years.
"The goblin use sound for them, they are trained to expect pain when they hear a bell ring."
"They?" Draco asked.
"The goblins use them for very high-profile safes, a layer of extra protection," Bill explained.
"We can't leave him here!" Draco turned pleading eyes to his companions.
"You are not even supposed to be here, you can't make demands!" Harry argued.
"I will try and release him myself!" Draco challenged.
"Let's search the vault and we will figure it out later, we will need a way to get out of his cavern anyway," Sirius jumped in.
Reluctantly, Draco followed them to the safe. Sirius transfigurated a bell from a button of his coat and they snuck into the vault.
The vault was filled with jewelries, cups and trinkets.
"Do we know what we are looking for?" Harry asked.
"We will in a minute," Bill said. "I will cast a few curse detection spells, I assume the object is under a curse and probably has a very dark aura since it's a Horcrux."
Draco sat down and watched him work. They were instructed not to touch anything as Bill did his part. Draco never saw a curse breaker at work, and he was very skilled and quite mesmerizing to watch.
"How did you get past security?" He asked after a few minutes of gazing.
"They still do the blood test, the changed formula you did worked and I assume genetics helped," Sirius answered.
"Should we expect goblins soon?" he asked.
"No, apparently the crazy bitch is always thrown from the cart and there is a secret way out she employs that only she knows."
"And do we know it?"
"Nope!" Harry answered, he was not used to the new body's height and he kept bumping into things and fidgeting.
"It's the cup," Bill said and pointed to a shiny gold cup that sat on a pile of other trinkets.
"Can't we accio it?" Harry asked.
"Doesn't work in the safe, is an anti-theft method the gobblins use"
"The stuff under it has a Gemino curse on, as soon as you touch it, it will multiply." Bill explained.
"When anything touches it?" Draco asked.
"No, it reacts to pressure."
Draco turned to Harry and grinned like the cat that got the cream. Then he turned back into his animagus form, his magic was drained from all the transformations, but it would last him enough to get the cup and then the ferret brain demanded a long nap.
Quickly but carefully he made his way to the pile in question. He started climbing without moving the trinkets he stuck his little paws on so the curse wouldn't activate. Touching them burned his paws, but Draco didn't want to dwindle on that at the moment.
He had to use his whole body strength to crumple the cup from the top. He fell with it, but they landed at a safe distance away on the alleyway.
"Good job, Draco!" Sirius's voice sounded more like himself than Bellatrix now.
Harry covered the cup with a cloth and put it in his bag. Draco turned back, his magic was completely drained. His hand were hurting really bad and he had black marks on them, like they've been scorged. Harry healed him, but glared at him the whole time.
"It's Helga Hufflepuf's cup," He announced.
"Man had a serious obsession," Bill exclaimed.
They walked to the safe door. The dragon was still hanging there limply with a huge chain around his neck. There was no other pathway in sight.
"We can always go up!" Draco said pointing at a skylight barely visible above the pit.
"You want to take the dragon, don't you?" Harry asked.
"I don't see any brooms around!"
"Can it work without riding saddles?" Sirius asked.
"I mean it is pretty spiky." Bill frowned. "I wish I could call Charlie so much right now."
"Unless we figure out how Bellatrix does it…"
"Everyone on the dragon!" Sirius made the call. "Lily and Remus are going to kill me!"
On three everyone jumped on the dragon. Bill used a blasting spell on the chain and the beast was free. For a few seconds it just stood there not sure how to proceed, then it looked up at the skylight and screeched, a piercing cry. After it he unfolded its long fleshy wings and took flight.
They passed through the skylight and into Diagon Alley ,then right into the sky.
Using the dreaded bell spell, they steered the dragon as far away from muggle populated areas as possible. They flew for a long amount of time, but finally the weak dragon got tired and they landed in a heap on a cliff.
"Where are we?" Harry asked.
"Still in England, I assume," Sirius answered.
The polipotion effects were over, but they still wore the clothes, Sirius looked hilarious in Bellatrix's dress.
"I need to get Charlie to see this poor fellow," Bill said checking over the dragon.
"And we need to report to the others" Sirius said.
