Chapter 14 Raid Battle in The Ruins
"We're here! The Unova Region!" Ash says as they step foot at the said region.
"The hottest spot in Unova right now: The Desert Resort!" As they see on the screen, a man is saying the news, Ash says, "All right! There it is!"
As they continue watching the news, it says, "The newly-discovered ruins; the Colossus Ruins! Try your hand at solving their ancient riddles!"
"The Colossus has got to be a Pokemon!" Ash says.
"I think so as well." Serena says, then they rush to the area, only to see the desert in front of them.
"So...how are we going to get there?" Serena asks, and Ash says, "I thought you'd worked that out..."
"Wait, you don't have a plan?" Serena says with surprise. "You didn't, either." Ash says as they both sigh.
After Pikachu and Scorbunny step on the hot sand, their feet are burning and they jump onto Ash and Serena. Ash says, "The desert sure is way too hot..."
"So how are we going to get past?" Serena asks.
"You shouldn't underestimate the Desert Resort. You two." They turn around and see a Pokemon Ranger with a Meditite approaching them.
"What do you mean by that?" Ash asks.
"Do you have any flying Pokemon?" The ranger asks.
"I have a Charizard and Dragonite with me." Ash says as he sends out the two Pokemon. Dragonite tries to hug the ranger, but Charizard is just refraining from doing so.
"What's up with this Dragonite?" The Ranger asks. Serena says, "Ignore him for now."
Then the ranger shows her Braviary and with a rope and board, it easily takes Kira and her Meditite across the hot desert sands.
Ash and Serena are doing the same thing as they get through the desert. Ash says, "Wow, this is so fast..."
"I know. I can feel the wind going..." Serena says.
Just then, Dragonite responds by speeding up and flying Ash and Pikachu high into the sky. Serena and Charizard are worried as Serena yells, "Ash!"
While Ash and Pikachu try to regain their breaths, Ash says, "That was great..."
"Hey, Ash! We're here!" Serena says. "The Colossal Ruins."
Ash and Serena recall their Pokemon and notice some statues, and Ash says, "Hey, they are Darmanitans in their Zen Mode!"
"Darmanitan?" Serena asks as Pikachu and Scorbunny try to touch the Pokemon, only for it to change into normal form and attacks.
"Watch out! That's Overheat!" Serena yells.
Pikachu and Scorbunny dodge the attack and Ash quickly throws a Pokeball, capturing the Pokemon. "Darmanitan's data is added to the Pokedex. Darmanitan, the Blazing Pokémon. A Fire type. It has an internal temperature of 2,500 degrees, which gives it enough power to break a dump truck apart."
"Who knows that the Pokemon has a different form as well..." Serena says.
"Yeah, that was very surprising, right?" Ash asks.
"Are you two alright?" Just then, a man with a Litwick appears, and he says, "I am the chief of the excavation team! Litwick is my excavating partner, who lights our path."
"Litwick? Lights your path?" Ash says with a little fear, and Serena asks, "Ash? Are you okay?"
"Litwick is a Ghost Type Pokemon who will take your life force to light up its candle." Ash says in a spooky tone causing Serena to get scared, and then Ash got hit by her punch, causing him to groan in pain.
"Stop scaring me with the Ghosts..." Serena says with a huff.
"I am not joking, I had a bad encounter with the Litwicks..." Ash mutters.
"Enchanting, isn't it? This area used to be a city long ago." The chief says, "It's said that the people created the Colossus to protect the city."
"That's awesome." Ash says.
"And this key is enchanting, isn't it?" He shows them a picture on the stone tablet, and Serena says, "I feel like I have seen that before, but I'm not sure..."
"Chief! We've found another inscription!" A man runs towards them and yells.
"Very well! I'll be right there." The chief says. "I feel the call...the call of something new and enchanting! You two, proceed carefully through the ruins. There are some enchanting surprises in store!"
As they head down the stairs, Ash says, "By the way, I think we can have this Pokemon to help us out."
Ash throws a Pokeball and Krookodile appears, Serena says, "Krookodile? Why is that?"
"It is good at underground, so I think it will be better if we use it." Ash says as Krookodile gives them a thumbs up.
After walking a while, Ash accidentally steps on a hidden panel, and it sets off a sand dump trap, causing sand to pour on top of him.
"I think this is what he means by surprises..." Serena says with a sweatdrop. "Maybe they are warnings to stay away from the Colossus."
Just then, Scorbunny also steps on a hidden panel, and Ash says, "Did you hear that? Don't tell me..."
A stone boulder is now approaching them as the two of them start to run. They leap onto the walls for safety, only for Serena to press down on another trap panel, which sets up a series of stone pillars.
The couple takes a moment to catch their breaths, and Serena says, "This ruin is way too intense..."
"Yeah." Ash says. Just then, they find a Yamask passing by, and Serena asks, "What is that Pokemon? It seems to be holding a mask..."
"That is a Yamask, it is also a Ghost Type. I remember Team Rocket used one before." Ash says. "Perhaps we should capture that one as well."
Serena nods as she takes out the Pokeball, capturing it. "Yamask's data is added to the Pokedex."
Ash also steps on another trap as this time Ash is about to fall to the trap, and the same ranger from before has Meditite uses Psychic to grab him out of the trap.
"Oh, it's you two again." The ranger says.
"Thank you for saving me." Ash says.
"I am Kira, wherever there's mystery and adventure, you'll find Meditite and I." Kira says. "I came because I wanted to find out what the Colossus was, too. But you came without any equipment? Don't underestimate the ruins!"
"So Kira, the surprises...I mean...the traps didn't get you on the way here?" Serena asks.
"Of course, I mean, they had switches, you know?" Kira says as she points at the one with the symbol, and the two of them start to feel embarrassed.
"If you step on or move these, the traps will activate." Scorbunny wants to try it out, but Ash quickly stops him by dragging him away.
"Quiet!" Kira suddenly says, and she says, "Something is approaching..."
Just then, two Cofagrigus appear and Serena says, "Cofagrigus...I heard that they are Ghost Type Pokemon who will eat people and turn them into mummies..."
"There is someone inside me of them...maybe that person will be turned into mummies..." This causes Ash and Serena to shiver, and Ash and Serena decide to use Krookodile and Yamask to battle the two Cofagrigus.
Scorbunny tries to use Double Kick, and Ash yells, "Wait! Scorbunny! Cofagrigus is a Ghost Type, your Double Kicks don't work!"
"Krookodile! Stone Edge!" "Yamask! Dark Pulse!"
Both Pokemon attack the Cofagrigus and then the coffins open, revealing a man and a shiny Psyduck. And the Cofagrigus just leave them alone.
"Nice work, Yamask, Krookodile." Ash says, and Yamask suddenly evolves into a Cofagrigus, causing Serena to get shivers. Ash quickly recalls the Pokemon before Serena is going to faint from shock.
"Oh, you truly are my savior!" The man freed from Cofagrigus says. "Thank you!"
Serena notices the Shiny Psyduck and says, "Ash! Look! A blue Psyduck! I have never seen it before!"
"How did you do? My name is Shane Seeker! Isn't my Psyduck adorable?" Shane Seeker says. "I want to fill out my Pokedex with nothing but Shiny Pokemon!"
"Only Shiny ones?" Kira asks.
"I have more, look!" He starts to show his Pokedex, and Ash says, "Amazing! All of them are Shiny!"
"But it is a pretty empty list..." Serena says.
"I'm just getting started...there's more to come!" Shane Seeker says. "Psyduck is the first Pokemon I ever caught! Having your first Pokemon being shiny does feel like destiny, doesn't it? So I made up my mind! I would fill out my Pokedex in a way nobody has ever done before!"
"Shiny Pokemon are really rare, you know." Ash says.
"It doesn't matter! No matter how many years it takes, I will see it done!" Shane Seeker says.
"Hey, Kira. How did you know there was someone in there?" Serena asks.
"Because the Cofagrigus' bodies were hanging close to the ground. When they've swallowed a person, the weight makes them droop." Kira says as the others are in awe.
Later, Ash and the others arrive at a large chamber as they are examining for clues. Ash says, "There is nothing here..."
Serena asks, "Was it supposed to be the goal?"
"Perhaps there's some hidden setup?" Shane Seeker adds.
Kira notices that Psyduck trips onto one of the panels and the central floor spin seemingly into place like a puzzle. She says, "Everyone! Have you see any more of these emblem panels around?"
After finding four more panels, Kira says, "Five panels, and there are five circles as well. Ash! Push the panel!"
"But what if another trap opens?" Ash asks with worry.
"It's fine, trust me." Kira says with confidence. Serena adds, "Let's give it a try, Ash!"
"Don't blame me if things go wrong." Ash mutters as he presses it, and this causes another circle to move.
"Is it a trap after all?" Serena asks, and Kira says, "No, the rest of you, push the panels as well!"
Pikachu, Serena, and Shane Seeker also press the other panels, and this causes the floor display to rearrange into the same familiar emblem they find in the ruins.
A large egg-like structure emerges from the floor, and Ash asks, "That's the Colossus?"
Just then, it breaks open to reveal a giant Golurk. Shane Seeker says, "Golurk is the Colossus?"
"But it is too large!" Serena says as she looks at the Pokedex. "Golurk are normally 2.8 meters tall, but this one is over five meters."
"Everyone! I deciphered the inscription!" The chief rushes into the ruins, and he is also amazed at the sight of Golurk.
Golurk suddenly attacks with a flash of light, blasting everything in sight. "What's going on?" Ash asks as they are trying to find cover.
"This is what the inscription said: Golurk was a city defense mechanism that the ancient people created! It only awakens to battle and it attacks anything in sight." The chief says.
"Those ancient people are crazy..." Serena says as she dodges the beam, scanning the Pokemon with the Pokedex. "Golurk, the Automaton Pokémon. A Ground and Ghost type. It is said that ancient peoples created Golurk for heavy manual labor. It is completely loyal to its master's orders."
"How are we going to stop it..." Kira asks.
Ash says, "They may call it a Colossus, but it is still a Pokemon. I think we should battle it!"
Serena says, "How about we fight it in a raid battle?"
"I'm in." Ash says with a smirk. Kira adds, "If you're doing a Raid, then I'm joining in."
"Then I will, too! It'll be an enchanting catch!" The chief says.
"I think I'll skip this one..." Shane Seeker tries to leave, but Kira stops him and says, "You are going to fight with us."
"But I'm a Shiny Pokemon Collector!" Shane Seeker says.
"I have a friend who has a Shiny Pokemon, I can introduce him to you if only you help." Kira says, and hearing this, Shane Seeker and Psyduck join in.
"Krookodile! Use Crunch!" Ash yells, and the Sand Croc Pokemon just tries to bite its leg, but it is too hard to crunch and Krookodile is in pain.
"Cofagrigus! Use Shadow Claw!" Serena says as Cofagrigus slashes at the Pokemon, but it doesn't do well enough. Golurk uses Heavy Slam on both Pokemon, causing them to be slammed hard to the ground.
Golurk is also able to withstand a Fire Spin, Psyshock, and Hydro Pump combo effort from Shane Seeker and the others. Golurk fires off another attack which forces Kira and Shane Seeker to recall their Pokémon.
"Krookodile! Use Dragon Claw!" Ash calls, and the attack causes Golurk to kneel, but it delivers a Hammer Arm to knock out Krookodile.
"Krookodile! Are you okay?" Ash asks and he quickly recalls him. "We still have Dragonite."
After sending out the Pokemon, it uses a Dragon Claw to block an oncoming fist attack.
"Cofagrigus, Use Shadow Claw again!" Serena yells, even though it manages to dodge the upcoming attacks, it is hit by the Flash Cannon as it is also knocked out.
"Return Cofagrigus!" Serena says.
Kira and the leader have their Braviary and Lampent attack with Air Slash and Flame Burst, respectively, but they are quickly defeated by a Hammer Arm each.
"Well then, I'll use Charizard!" Serena sends out the Fire Lizard Pokemon, who roars. Ash says, "Serena, this is your first time commanding Chiarzard on your own, I trust you to do it."
"You can count on me." Serena says. Just then, Golurk suddenly transforms by withdrawing its hands and legs into its body.
"Oh no...it can't be! This might be the ultimate attack the inscriptions described! Unleashing light from its body, the Colossus would burn all its foes to ashes!" The chief says causing Shane Seeker to get scared.
"I can see why they'd call it Colossus." Serena says.
"Let's have Dragonite and Charizard do a combo attack!" Ash says. "Before it can deliver its move, we will finish it off with our attack!"
"Use Hurricane!/Overheat!" Ash and Serena yell, the attacks collide, with the force blasting everyone aback.
As the dust clears, Golurk is seemingly paralyzed from the blow. Kira says, "It is acting strange..."
"It might not be able to go back to normal after sustaining all that damage." The chief says.
As it collapses to the ground, Ash says, "Pokeball! Go!"
He throws the ball at Golurk, after taking a while, the Ball stops moving soon after, meaning Ash has now caught the giant Golurk. "Golurk's data is added to the Pokedex."
"Oh, I'm so jealous, but the Golurk is yours, Ash." The chief says.
"That was amazing, Ash." Kira says.
"Yeah, that was great, Ash." Serena adds. "Dragonite's battling was amazing as well."
"As well as how you commanded Chiarzard." Ash says.
Dragonite and Charizard exchange a fist bump, feeling them getting closer.
The stone walls unexpectedly fall away to reveal a golden corridor behind, the chief says, "This is the ancient city the Colossus was protecting!"
"Maybe I can find a Golden shiny Pokemon inside..." Shane Seeker says.
Later, Ash and Serena are back at the lab, inside Cerise Park, they notice that on the hill, they see Darmanitan, in its Zen Mode, and Golurk are sitting there.
Serena says, "They look like guardians of the Cerise Park, don't you think?"
"Yeah. That's so cool." Ash says with a smile.
Here is a new chapter, and I am going to do something different in the next chapter since Goh is not in the story.
