The world was in flames, and Eurydice knew exactly where to go to avoid them. When she camped between towns, it was always near the railways, and in towns she scouted the closest routes in and out for when the weather inevitably turned. She barely gave the people around her a second glance, unless they had food or shelter.

People came and went, but she stayed as long as she was able, at least until the wind changed. If the locals thought she was odd, Eurydice didn't care, so long as she was eating well and catching precious hours of sleep. The life she lived was never static, always moving, always on the run.

By the time she stopped at Hermes' bar she barely needed to think about how to survive anymore; it was woven into her as effortlessly as the Fates' voices sang in her mind.

But it was Orpheus with his heart on his sleeve that made her realize—in all her surviving, she'd forgotten how to live.
