Laredo, Southwestern Texas

As they got closer to the town it was clear skirmishes had damaged the small border and fortress town.

Not only that it was clear it has been assaulted a few times directly from minor assaults, but all were probably done by gangs and militias who weren't aligned to the government, and not actual soldiers going off of the damage.

"This is Laredo Air Control, Identify yourself." The Air Traffic control officer asked us.

"This is the Venom 5th Battalion, we heard you have requested reinforcements." I responded.

"Yes that is correct." Said the air traffic control officer.

When the battalion landed I was met with one Captain Raos commander of the 10th Squadron.

"Welcome to Laredo Lt. Colonel, I believe we fought together in Cubanica back in 26'." Said Captain Raos.

"Nice to see you again Raos, back then I was only a mere Lieutenant, and you were barely a corporal, I see you've gotten better." I said to the kid who was barely 22 now.

He let off a chuckle "I could get your boys some beer after this battle." Rod responded, lightening the mood.

"Nah, my men are heavy drinkers and will make your men bankrupt." I responded not wanting to destroy the kid who clearly had a bright future, assuming he survives this war that is.

We then moved towards a government building where the officers were holding a meeting.

"So how many t" I asked, changing the topic.

"We've been attacked 3 times, more akin to skirmishes than actual battles. Although these were performed by poorly trained gangs rather than actual soldiers they were probably ordered to attack so we can use up our supplies. Damage to the fortifications are mostly minor." Captain Raos answered swiftly.

"I see, so have you seen any movement from the Mexicilian main army?" I asked, typically this was to be done by adjustants, but I wanted a battle report from someone who's been here for a while.

"Well before the war there was just a single garrison on the other side of the border, now it's around 3 divisions, on top of the garrison." He said.

"That's bad, how long do you think it will be until they finally attack?" I asked.

"Don't know but going off of reports from scouts, their gathering tanks, ammunition, fuel everything for this invasion but we haven't detected any aerial mages within their garrisons or any of their divisions." Raos said.

"No aerial mages?!" I wondered. Aerial mages were the pinnacle of the military being able to equal the firepower of an artillery, the hardness of a tank and being capable to fly almost as fast as a plane, as shown during the Great War, and the West Indies conflict. Not only that Mexicilia did use aerial mages during the West Indies conflict, did they purge their aerial mages just like the Russy Federation did? Although I do not have the time to dwell on this at all I have to stay on my feet.

After the meeting I took a nap to catch up on sleep.

3 hours later

I was awoken by a panicking Isuriag "Major, it's urgent the mexicilian have begun their attack on the town!" He said.

Still waking I gave off a confused look "Huh?" I said I was confused even though I was a major. Having low blood pressure can be a pain to deal with.

"The Mexicilians! They're attacking!" He repeated himself. Then it clicked.

"What!" I jumped out of my bed, I grabbed my operation orb off of the night and began putting on my uniform in the process.

"How many divisions?" I asked.

"Around 3 divisions the size hasn't increased since we've arrived." Isuriag reported.

"Is the battalion ready?" I asked even though it should be clear that they should be ready.

"Yes they are, the 10th squadrons have already started taking out their vanguard."

"Alright"

Feburary 22nd, 1930 and present day

Laredo, Texas

It was that battle again. He saw the Texan aerial mage fly around the air, they all flew unnaturally even a plane can only go forward when in flight they can change their direction but not immediately like an aerial mage, a bird can only turn upwards and then be forced down to the ground by gravity after being tired out, but they just flew upwards to the sky the moon like it was nothing. They were like the knight of shining armor for the forces on the ground they can provide close air support more easily than a plane can.

He just watched the dots that were allied aerial mages just fly up to the sky where enemy bombers were said to be, he couldn't see them but he knew they were fighting something from their movements alone.

"We have bombers!" Yelled his adjusts over the radio.

"How high?" I asked.

"6000 meters!" Reported Isuriag.

"They're flying awfully low, are they bombers from the 10s?" I wondered why Mexicilia was using such outdated equipment.

"Looks like it, anti-airfire is redirecting towards the bombers."

Ever since the invention of the proximity fuse during the late months of the Great War, mage casualties on both sides nearly doubled from anti air fire alone. Now that you don't need to directly hit your target or use timers on your shells, even then they're expensive to produce and are only made in small numbers in Texas, and the ones that are used in combat are used against targets like bombers.

Although the bombers were outdated by nearly 20 years they were destroyed by the accurate anti air fire.

By hour five, they had more troops than 3 divisions it was clear they were more behind the border to hide their true numbers.

"How do they have so many troops, this is not 3 divisions!" One of his men yelled.

"Just conserve your mana, restock on supplies when you need to!" I ordered.

"We got fighters!" Reported one of his men over the radio.

"Fighters?" I picked up my binoculars and saw that they were more recent fighters that would give single core mages a tough time against, and because of their speed they're giving anti air fire a hard time.

By hour 15 there were more troops than about 10 divisions.

Mexicilian front line command

"We request heavy artillery." Repeated by the radio officer, the commander was over his shoulder wondering what's happening.

"Has central said anything?" Asked the commanding officer.

"No, they're still getting through Central." Reported the radio.

"Damn we need to get to those heavy artillery as soon as possible." Said the Commanding officer.

Mexicilian Northern Rear Eschelon

"The battle of Laredo is going smoothly but we advise sending heavy artillery as they request it." Said rear Echelons officer.

Technotchiltan, Mexicilia People's Palac

"The battle of Laredo is going smoothly, no further reinforcements needed." Said the political officer reporting to the leaders of Mexicilia.

"Good, try to get them to finish this battle as soon as possible,'' said the president of Mexicilia.

"I would also like to thank our Russy, and Francoan Benefactors as they were gracious enough to provide us with men and supplies. Is there anything we would like to pay you back?" Said the president to the Russy and Francoan Diplomats.

"No nothing outside of what we discussed earlier today." Reported the Francoan diplomat.

"I see." Was all the president's response.

Meanwhile over in Laredo the battle was still raging on as the stubborn Texan defenders refused to give an inch to the enemy forces, but the cracks started to form.

"Sir, our forward trench has fallen!"

"Our rear trenches are getting overwhelmed!"

In the panicked yells of the radio control officers the defending commander realizing the futility of the resistance he gave one order "Retreat."

After 15 hours of brutal fighting the Texans were forced to retreat, and over the next 3 weeks would see constant losses to Texas.
