Chapter 4: When the Ice heals the wounds of pain

By the time that Mimi showed it was well past the time that everyone else had gone to sleep. Gatomon waved them over and told them that everything would be explained in the morning.

When the others woke up they noticed Mimi. Packing up around her Kari went to shake her awake. "Mimi time to get up we still have a ways to go."

"Kari where are we going?" Mimi asked sitting up still a little and rubbing her eyes. "And who's he?" She asked looking at Kouichi.

"That's Kouichi. He's the Warrior of Darkness and TK's previous incarnation. I'll explain more on the way. We need to find the next one before the Evil Masters appear." Kari answered.

Mimi nodded and followed her over to the cooking fire that the others set up. Kouichi joined them having shed his jacket and tied it around his waist for the time being. "So all we know about the next one is that it's one of the ones for Ice and that it's guarded by Candelmon. Is there anything else that we need to know?" Izzy asked.

"No. Like I said earlier when you asked Izzy. I wasn't there when they had got it. If it's any help though I can describe what it was that Tommy was like that way we can at least start to puzzle out who he might be."

The others nodded what little information they could get would help a lot in the long run. If there were also personality traits that were shared between the previous incarnation and the current one they might be able to guess who they are and other reincarnations. "He was the youngest of all of us and was a very sweet kid. He had been bullied in the Real World and had been pushed onto the Trailmon that landed him in the area. From what I remember being told he was a bit of a crybaby at the beginning and earned the honor when he tried to dose the Candlemon in water when they had attacked them after tricking the Warriors. He was also the third one to get his Spirit."

After he finished talking there was a silence. There were only three in the group that fit that personality and everyone knew it. They all could guess that fit it would be either Mimi, Joe, or Cody. After a while, Kari turned to Mimi and started to explain what had happened since they got there and before from accounts by Kouichi.

They had been walking for about an hour when suddenly the ground underneath them gave way leaving just Ken, Joe, Matt, and Cody above ground with their Digimon and Veemon above the ground.

Matt lent down to yell down at them and called "Are you ok?"

Kouichi yelled back up "We're fine. Continue on ahead. There's a chance that one of you might be able to get the spirit. We'll find a way out and meet you there."

"Alright be careful," Matt called down.

With that, the others started back on track. The pace was slow going because they didn't know what lay ahead or under for that matter either. Everyone was tense in silence that no one wanted to break. Their guides were underground and they had no idea who would draw the spirit or if any of them could.

Night soon fell and worry for the others haunted them. For all, they knew it could be a trap and with Tai and Davis not there it fell it to Matt to try and keep everyone together.

Ken was the first to break the silence. "Does anyone have any idea what happened earlier? One minute the ground was fine next it broke."

"No. It could have been a Digimon or a trap." Matt answered.

"Whatever it was separated us apart. It means that the Evil Masters could attack and we'd be defenseless." Joe said.

"Either way we can't change the past. Come sunrise it would be best to keep moving." Cody answered.

The others nodded and soon everyone was asleep. Underground the other DigiDestined also went to sleep.

Come morning Cody, Matt, and Joe set out again. There was no speaking as everyone was lost in their own thoughts mostly about how they would get the spirit and what would happen if it didn't go to any of them and they needed it to save their friends.

Veemon was thinking about all the things that the Evil Masters could be doing to Davis. It didn't matter to him that Davis had been lying to him since they met. After from what TK had said that he should have died years ago when they were fighting the Digimon that had wiped out more than half of the digital world.

Being so lost in thought they almost didn't notice that they were at a cliff. Veemon couldn't blame him for not telling him something that he himself was trying to forget.

Deep underground the others were trying to head in the general direction of the ice cave when Kouichi stops them. A loud shuffling was heard coming around a corner ahead of them.

The Digimon and half Digimon got ready for a fight when a deformed dwarf rounded the corner. It looked at them and the DigiDestined tensed while Kari and Kouichi relaxed. "Grumblemon, what are you doing here?" The Warrior of Light asked.

"Me was sent by Master to help."

"Grumblemon did you collapse the ground.?" Kouichi asked exasperated.

Grumblemon nodded like he was proud of himself for doing this. "Why did you do you do that?" The Warrior turned Child of Light asked.

"Was only way to stop from making big mistake. Me also found something Warrior of Darkness will want to see."

The twins looked at each other and seemed to have a silent conversation before TK nodded. As Grumblemon lead them deeper into the ground the others started to theorize on what it was the then Digimon wanted to show them that was so important that it had to happen then and there.

It wasn't till they walked off the cliff that they noticed it was there. Sitting up Joe began to look over the others then breathed a sigh of relief till he looked around. On the wall next to them was a carving of an angel that had ten symbols around it. Cody walked up to and started to trace the symbols. Then pointed at one. "That symbol right there was on Lowemon."

"You're right. That one was on Lobomon." Matt said pointing at another one. "These must be the symbols of the Ten Warriors."

Joe walked over to them and pulled out his phone to take a picture. "I'll show it to Gennai and Kari so they can confirm it."

Once Joe sent the text not even 2 minutes later Kari sent a text back with the response that Gennai said that they had passed that on the way to where Tommy had found his spirit. Joe showed the text to the other two who nodded and looked at the path. "Gennai didn't happen to tell you which direction they went did he?" Armadillomon asked.

"No. He didn't." Joe said shaking his head.

They looked left and right. Then at each other. "I think that there might be something down that way." Gabomonn said, looking left.

"Then that's the way that we'll go." Matt said.

Walking down they spotted a light on the path. Joe picked Veemon up knowing if there was a fight that he would be next to useless without Davis there. Going closer to the light revealed a fire was what looked like walking candlesticks with hands and living fire on their wick that was dancing around it. "Excuse me." Matt called. He knew that it might be a bad idea but it was getting dark and the canyon that they were in was getting colder as the sun went down.

As one the candle Digimon stopped and stared at the three humans and four Digimon. Then one of the Digimon came forward. It had a mustache made out of wax and was holding a match for a walking stick. "Hello, travelers. What are you doing out and around at this time of day?"

"You see. We got lost and separated from our friends. When we were looking for them we ended up falling down into this ravine. I don't suppose that you can let us stay here by your fire for the night would you?" Cody asked.

"Why of course young one. You and your friends can stay with us for the night and at first light, we will help you look for your friends. We Candlemon are a helpful bunch. Comes stay the night."

Not long after the DigiDestined had gone to bed the cliff side exploded. Coming out of the new tunnel was a Monochromemon. The rhino-like Digimon shook its head before it looked at the DigiDestined before it charged at them.

"Scatter," Matt called. They all dove out of the way before calls of digivolution were spoken and Ikkakumon, Garurumon, and Digmon charged at the rhino Digimon to keep him from the humans.

"I thought the Monochromemon were peaceful Digimon. Why is it attacking us?" Digmon asked.

"Not a clue just keep it from the humans and Veemon." Garurumon yelled trying to claw the Digimon.

"I feel so useless. I can't help at all." Veemon remarked from his place in Joe's arms.

"You aren't useless Veemon." Joe said looked down at the tiny sad Digimon in his arms. "Everyone has times that they can't hel." Cutting himself off he looked around.

"Joe?" The blue Digimon asked looking up at him.

"I thought I heard someone calling my name."

Walking in the direction he heard the voice. He stopped walking when he reached a cave that was covered in ice."Should we enter?" He asked looking down at the Digimon in his arms.

Veemon looked into the cave then back at the fight and nodded. Stealing his nerves Joe walked in. About 10 feet into the cave just far enough back was a bear with skis and boots along with a headband and a vest. "Took you long enough." The bear remarked. 'I've been waiting for years for you to return. I missed you."

"You're Kumamon aren't you? Kari and TK never mentioned that their partners talked to them." Joe said.

"They might not have thought about it. Never mind that you're friends need help." Kumamon said and walked towards Joe was still in shock for a minute before putting down. When the two walked there was an explosion on ice before a cry of Blizzard Blaster was heard and Monochromemon was frozen. The three Digimon looked over to where the ice and attack came from to see the bear come out with Veemon.

The two Digimon walked over to where the others were before Kumamon turned back into Joe. "Well, that was an experience." The Reborn Warrior of Ice said rubbing the back of his head.

"I'll say you took him out fast." Digmon said. Cody wasn't listening and instead walked over to where the rhino was.

"Is something wrong?" The temporary leader asked looking over at him.

Cody held something up. "It was a spire Digimon." He said.

"That's odd could've sworn those were all gone." A voice behind the group said.

Behind them was the rest of the group barring Kouichi and Gennai.

"Where are Kouichi and Neemon? Did you lose them?" The Ice Warrior tuned Child of Reliability asked.

"No. But you might want to see this." Mimi said.

Parting the three could see that Kouichi was carrying someone on his back with Gennai following behind him in case the person being carried fell.

The man his back had black pants with black boots and was covered in mud and blood. He had blond hair that was matted with blood. Matt and Cody couldn't figure it out but Joe could. He stood in shock before motioning for them to follow. He took them back to the ice cave where he found Kumamon.

Sending Mimi to go fetch water he had The Warrior of Darkness to set the man down. Nodding in thanks to Mimi for getting set to work cleaning him up. With the man's face clean he could now see with certainty that it was in fact, Davis. Taking his first aid kit out of his bag he began to patch the leader up trying not to think of the fact there was practically no one to patch him up after the fight with Apocalymon.

Once he was done patch The Child of Miracules he went to join the others around the fire they had started. "So the youngest of the Warriors is the oldest of the DigiDestined." The Child of Hope said.

"How did you guys find Davis?" Joe asked still in doctor mode as it was dubbed by Mimi.

"A Digimon named Grumblemn showed us where he was." Yolei responded.

"Yes, he was not looking very well when we found after he changed back into human form." Hawkmon finished for his partner.

Joe brought his knees to his chin deep in thought. The wounds on Davis were bad. Hawkmon didn't need to voice the unsaid almost dead when they found him as there were signs of a quick first aid most likely by either of the twin Warriors or Gennai.

Sensing the tension in the young doctor Gennai voiced something that he had noticed about the pattern of the spirits being found. "I just noticed that so far the spirits are being found in the same order as they were found last time."

"What do you mean?" Agumon asked.

"Last time Agunimon was found first. But Davis already had him. Kouichi had him since practically the beginning as well. This time he was the first found followed by Kari who had found her's second last time. Now it was Joe who was Tommy that found his. Last time Tommy was the third to find his. If the pattern holds then the next would be the lone female of the group to find her's. Zoe the Warrior of Wind." Gennai answered.

The others nodded their heads thinking about who she could be when Izzy's laptop beep. On it was an email from an unknown sender. Right as he was about to click on it sounds of movement came from where Davis was. Turning they could see that he was awake.

The only thing I have to say is sorry this took so long to get up. It was a bit hard to format it the same way as the others without having a laptop to do it on. I will try not to take quite so long on the next one I promise.
