Pokémon Crimson Gold
Chapter 15: Gold and Silver
After a quick stop at the Pokémon Center, Ethan and his newly evolved Bayleef were ready to head out for Goldenrod City, in search of his third Gym badge. And now, it was time to head to Ilex Forest.
Before Ethan head out however, he decided to take a stop at Mr. Kurt's house, who wanted to give Ethan something.
"You wanted to see me, Mr. Kurt?" Ethan asked, walking into his house.
"Oh, if it isn't Youn Ethan!" Mr. Kurt said, he was playing with his Wooper.
Kurt took notice of Ethan's second badge he pinned to his jacket. "Oh I see, you've defeated Bugsy."
"Yeah, and in the process my Chikorita evolved." Ethan said, turning to Bayleef.
"Would you sit with me a moment Ethan?" Mr. Kurt asked, Ethan went and sat next to him.
"I'd like to thank you for helping me out the other day and helping with the whole Slowpoke tail situation." He said.
"It was no big deal sir; I'd do it again just as easily." Ethan said, beginning to gloat.
"No, it was, please allow me to give you this." He said reaching in his drawer, he pulled out a blue and red Pokéball Ethan had never seen before.
"Is this some kind of special Pokéball?" Ethan asked.
"Correct, a Great Ball, you'll find it'll be much more effective on wild Pokémon that standard Pokéballs." Mr. Kurt said.
"Thanks, I'll be sure to use this." Ethan said, putting it in its bag, it was then he noticed once again the mysterious Egg was shaking even faster than last time.
It's going to hatch soon, he thought happily.
"Now go on ahead sonny, be sure to return if you'd like for me to make you any Pokéballs." Kurt said.
"You can?" Ethan asked, getting up along with Bayleef.
"Absolutely, you see I am the creator of the Great Ball, just bring me some Apricorns, and I'll take care of the rest."
"I'll keep that in mind, see you around." Ethan said as he left the house.
"Just got to get through that forest. You with me Bayleef?" Ethan asked, already knowing her answer.
"Bayleef!" She quickly responded.
"Alright then." Ethan and Bayleef set out for the route exit, as he went, he noticed a familiar face.
Right in front of Ethan, blocking the town exit, was Silver. Who he had faced on the first day of his journey, he was crossing his arms.
"Tell me something..." Silver said. "Is it true Team Rocket returned."
Ethan looked uneasy seeing Silver, he was about ready to instantly contact Professor Elm, but he decided to hear him out. "Yeah, and I helped the Gym leader Bugsy defeat them."
"Are you serious? Then let's see how good you are." Silver said, pulling out a Pokéball.
"Go Haunter!" Silver yelled, revealing a new Pokémon Ethan hadn't encountered yet. It was hanging out its long tongue.
"Ooh, a Ghost type." Ethan said, pulling out his Pokédex.
"Haunter, the Gas Pokémon. In total darkness, where nothing is visible, Haunter lurks silently stalking its next victim."
"Still playing with that stupid gadget, just send in your Pokémon already." Silver said.
"Bayleef, let's show him a lesson." Ethan said, Bayleef happily agreed and jumped forth to face the Haunter.
"Haunter, let us begin with Shadow Claw!" Silver yelled, Haunter came and attempted to slice Bayleef with a purple glowing slash.
"Bayleef, dodge and use Tackle!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef easily dodged the slice, but upon tackling phased through the Haunter, freaking both she and Ethan. "What the!?"
"Fool. Normal type moves have no effect on Ghost type Pokémon." Silver said, giving a slick smirk. "Now Haunter, Shadow Ball."
Haunter formed a ball consisting of Ghost type energy, blasting Bayleef.
"Bayleef!" Ethan yelled.
When the smoke cleared, Bayleef was hurt, she struggled to stand on both legs, scaring Ethan.
"Haunter, Will-O-Wisp!" Silver demanded, Haunter listened and launched a fire type attack that would devastate Bayleef if struck.
"Bayleef dodge, quick!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef dodged it, albeit just slightly.
"You're losing." Silver said, happiest when he was winning.
"Bayleef, return." Ethan said. Bayleef quickly returned to Ethan's side.
"None of your Pokémon can hold a candle in the presence of my Haunter." Silver gloated.
"I'll prove you wrong!" Ethan said, readying Flaaffy's Pokéball. "Flaaffy, show them what you've got."
"Flaaffy!" Flaaffy said, it was ready for a fight.
"Haunter, Mean look!" Silver said, to force Flaaffy to stay in battle until it either won entirely or was defeated.
"Flaaffy Take Down!" Ethan yelled.
Silver laughed. "Didn't I tell you normal moves had zero effect on Haunter?"
Flaaffy once again phased through Haunter. But unlike last time, Haunter was paralyzed.
"What!" Silver yelled, beginning to freak out.
"Flaaffy's static, I took a gamble to see if it'd work and it did." Ethan smiled. "Now use Thunder Shock!"
Flaaffy zapped the Haunter with a full power Thunder Shock, it tried to dodge, but then the paralysis took effect. Haunter received a big zap, instantly defeating it.
"Damn." Silver cursed as he returned his Pokémon.
"Here's one you've seen before, Quilava, go!" Silver yelled, throwing his Pokéball.
"Lava, Quilava!" Quilava shouted.
Ethan pulled out his Pokédex to scan the newly evolved Pokémon.
"Quilava, the Volcano Pokémon. Be careful if it turns its back during battle. It means that it will attack with the fire on its back."
"I recognize that Quilava. It isn't yours." Ethan said in a serious tone.
"You dwell too much on the past. What I seek is the future." Silver said. "Quilava Flame Charge!"
Quilava formed a red flaming spiral around it, it pounced towards Flaaffy.
"Flaaffy bounce back!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy managed to dodge the hit, although just slightly.
"Wait a minute, perhaps it'd be best to avoid that kind of physical attack, I wouldn't want to get hit by another static." Silver realized. "Quilava, use Flamethrower!"
Quilava unleashed from its mouth a bright and burning fire blast, it blazed through the air and engulfed Flaaffy.
"Flaaffy no!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy was okay after the hit, or so Ethan thought, but was suddenly hit by an after burn, surprising Ethan.
"It's Quilava's burn. Similar to Flaaffy's static, it can leave devastating aftereffects." Silver laughed.
Crap this is bad. Flaaffy's going to have to be hit with that same burn again and again. And not to mention I can't return him. Ethan thought, trying to devise a plan.
"Quilava, Smoke Screen!" Silver said. Quilava fired a smoke at Flaaffy, ruining its field of view.
"Flaaffy no!" Ethan yelled.
"Swift, end it!" Silver yelled. Quilava listened, firing a few couple stars at Flaaffy, blowing it back a far.
"Flaaffy!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy slowly got up, it wanted to continue.
"Alright Flaaffy, lets-" Before Ethan could finish, Flaaffy used a move on its own, it shot a ray barely visible at Quilava, causing it to go confused.
"That was Confuse Ray? Flaaffy, you learned a new move." Ethan happily exclaimed.
Quilava wobbled around, it was the effect of confusion. "No!" Silver yelled in anger.
Flaaffy was then once again blasted by the burn, it was strong enough to knock it out.
"Flaaffy return, great work, battling under all those conditions." Ethan said. "Alright Bayleef, ready to continue?"
"Bayleef!" Bayleef happily agreed, jumping back into the battlefield.
"Even when confused, my Quilava is still more than enough to end your weak Bayleef." Silver said.
"Bayleef is anything but weak Silver, want to see." Ethan said.
"Bay!" Bayleef cried.
"Quilava! Start with Flamethrower!" Silver yelled. Quilava wanted to use Flamethrower but didn't know where to face due to the confusion and ended up blasting the ground, blowing it back through the air.
"Take advantage and use Razor Leaf!" Ethan yelled, Bayleef listened and fired many Razor Leaves, cutting Quilava from up in the air.
Quilava fell back to the ground, it got up, still with only minimal damage. It got back up and recovered from the confusion.
"No more confusion, now you're done for." Silver smirked.
Ethan was scared, he had no clue what to do next. Was it over? Did Silver win?
"Quilava, end It with Flame Charge!" Silver yelled.
Quilava formed a fierce rush at Bayleef, with fire formed around it.
"Bayleef!" Ethan yelled.
"Bayleef!" Bayleef used a new move in which it protected itself from the Flame Charge, with a barrier in between her and Quilava.
"T-that's Light Screen!" Ethan said, shocked both his Pokémon had developed new moves.
"What!" Silver freaked.
Quilava was bounced back, smashing into the ground. It began to slowly get back up.
"Bayleef, Tackle!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef rushed into Quilava, ending the battle with one last swift move. With that, Quilava was out.
"...Humph! Useless Pokémon!" Silver muttered, returning his Quilava. "Listen, you. You won only because my Pokémon were weak."
"You shouldn't talk about your Pokémon that way." Ethan lectured him.
Silver looked at Quilava's Pokéball, with a disgusted look on his face. "I hate the weak. Pokémon, Trainers. It doesn't matter who or what. I hate to see them hanging around. That goes for Team Rocket, too. They think they are big and tough as long as they are in a group. But get them alone, and they're weak. I hate them all!"
"What does that mean for me, Silver?" Ethan asked.
"You'd be wise to stay out of my way. You won't be an exception if you get in my way." Silver said, he walked past Ethan, bumping him in the shoulder and stepping on him purposefully.
"Pfft... What a poor loser, anyways, let's go Bayleef." Ethan said, not caring too much about Silver's threat.
"Bay..." Bayleef said, uneasy.
Boom! Second rival fight done! The story should be spicing up with the next chapter btw...
