Chapter 19: How to not battle a Gym Leader
Ethan knocked on the door to Whitney's gym not too long after his talk with Elm. He decided to leave Togepi in the Pokémon Center as he didn't want him to pop out of his Pokéball midbattle and distract Ethan.
"Alright, so I'll only be having you and Flaaffy to fight, but hopefully she'll be like Bugsy and only use two Pokémon as well." Ethan told Bayleef as they waited for someone to let them in.
It was about three minutes later when a young woman opened the door and let Ethan in.
"Hi, I'm Amy, I'll be the referee for you and Whitney's battle." She told Ethan as they walked in. The gym walls were pink, with posters of Pokémon everywhere.
"No, I get it, I get it, Ethan." Ethan told her.
"I already know you, Whitney was talking about you a lot earlier, she said she saw fire in you, she said she likes that." Amy said.
Wait, she likes me, Ethan thought, giving a perverted grin.
"Bay..." Bayleef said shaking her head.
"And here is the stadium." Amy said, on the other side of the battlefield, stood Whitney.
"Ah, if it isn't my overconfident challenger." Whitney said smiling, she pulled out a Pokéball. "You sure talked a lot back during the radio show with Professor Oak, let's see if you can put your money where your mouth is!"
"I couldn't agree more, as I said back in the show, you're going to lose!" Ethan said all smug.
"Bayleef, you'll go first!" Ethan said, Bayleef leaped and jumped on the battlefield.
"I choose you, Clefable!" Whitney said, releasing her Clefable.
"Clefable!" Clefable shouted.
"Clefable, huh?" Ethan said pulling out his Pokédex.
"Clefable, the Fairy Pokémon. With its acute hearing, it can pick up sounds from far away. It usually hides in quiet places."
"This'll be interesting." Ethan said, putting away his Pokédex.
"Alright, this battle will be a three on three between Challenger Ethan and Gym Leader Whitney, any questions before you two begin?" Amy asked.
"Wait, a three on three, what if I only have two Pokémon?" Ethan asked.
"Then you're shit out of luck, kid. We could postpone the match if you like though for you to go and either catch one more Pokémon or grab one from the Center, but you'd probably have to wait a while for our match, I get a lot of trainers all the time." Whitney said, yawning.
"Nope this is fine. I'll battle with two Pokémon, Bayleef, you've got this!"
"Bay!" Bayleef said.
"Now may the battle begin!" Amy declared.
"Alright Bayleef, let's begin with Razor Leaf!" Ethan pointed.
Bayleef listened and heard Razor Leaf at the Clefable.
"Clefable, Mimic!" Whitney yelled.
Clefable began to glow, then threw Razor Leaf of her own, startling Ethan. The two Razor Leaves canceled each other out.
"Huh? Isn't this a normal type gym?" Ethan asked.
"Yup, that was just Mimic, my Clefable sees moves and copies it, although for only 1 use. Until I use the move again at least."
"Woah. That's scary." Ethan said, he then thank up a plan. "Bayleef, come back!"
Bayleef turned and ran back to Ethan. "You did great, but I'm going to want Flaaffy to battle for a second, just to plan something."
"Bay!" Bayleef agreed.
"Okay, Flaaffy, you're up!" Ethan announced, throwing Flaaffy's Pokéball.
"Flaaffy!" Flaaffy said.
"Switching out I see?" Whitney said smirking.
"Flaaffy, Take Down!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy charged at Clefable surrounded by a dangerous red aura.
"Mimic Take Down, Clefable!" Whitney told it.
"Clefable!" Clefable shouted as it rammed its body into Flaaffy with equal force, causing smoke to erupt.
Both Pokémon came from the smoke mostly unscathed, but it was then when Clefable was shocked by a bit of electricity.
"That's Flaaffy's hidden ability, static. Clefable may not be able to move at times." Ethan told her.
"Nice, want to see Clefable's hidden ability?" Whitney asked.
"Clefable has a hidden ability?" Ethan said.
"I call it Cute Charm. Your Flaaffy's become infatuated with my Clefable." Whitney said.
"Pfft, no it's not." Ethan said, he took a glance at Flaaffy, he was on one knee trying to give Clefable flowers, Clefable wasn't taking one bit of it.
"Flaaffy Flaaffy!" Flaaffy said, trying to hand Clefable the flowers.
Clefable looked away, and with one hand shoved away the flowers, shocking Flaaffy.
"Flaaffyyy!" Flaaffy said shockingly after being rejected.
"Oh come on!" Ethan yelled surprised by an ability so powerful.
Flaaffy then handed Clefable a Cheri berry, which Clefable happily took and ate, curing it of the paralysis.
"No, this isn't good." Ethan muttered.
"What's the matter, where's all that confidence from earlier? Weren't you going to conquer my gym?" She asked.
"Just wait, Flaaffy... Uh, I don't know how to say this but, uh, there are other fish in the see! Take it from me, I've been rejected by plenty of girls, it's a natural thing, but you don't just sit there and get all depressed!" Ethan said. Causing Flaaffy to cheer up a little.
"Really, you have?" Whitney said snickering.
"N-no, I-I was just saying that so Flaaffy would feel better!" Ethan yelled at her in embarrassment.
Flaaffy upon hearing that began to feel sad again, he fell to all fours. Starting to sob.
"Um... Amy. Flaaffy is clearly unable to battle in that condition, right? Hurry up and disqualify it!" Whitney demanded.
"Flaaffy is unable to continue! Challenger Ethan, bring out your last Pokémon!" Amy announced.
"Awe man..." Ethan said returning Flaaffy to its Pokéball. "I'm sorry about that, I know love can be a battle in itself."
"Bayleef it's all up to you!" Ethan yelled, unleashing Bayleef on the battlefield. "I never should have returned you in the first place, that Clefable's Cute Charm won't have any effect on you!"
"Bayleef!" Bayleef said.
"Clefable! Double Slap!" Whitney yelled.
Clefable ran up and both front hand and back handed Bayleef, pissing off Bayleef.
"Alright Bayleef, Vine Whip let's go!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef grabbed Clefable with its vines and smashed Clefable on the ground back and forth before throwing it in the air.
"Now Bayleef, Razor Leaf!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef listened and tossed its Razor Leaf straight at Clefable, which was able to knocked it to the ground.
"How could you do that to my cute Clefable!" Whitney screamed.
"How could you do that to my cute Flaaffy!" Ethan yelled back.
When the smoke cleared, Clefable was knocked unconscious, making Bayleef the winner of the round.
"Clefable is unable to battle! Gym Leader Whitney, bring out you're next Pokémon!" Amy declared.
"So rude!" Whitney pouted, returning her Clefable.
"You're doing great Bayleef, don't let up yet!" Ethan congratulated her.
"Okay, go Wigglytuff!" Whitney yelled as she threw her Pokéball. "Wigglytuff!" Wigglytuff shouted.
"Wigglytuff eh?" Ethan said, pulling out his Pokédex.
"Wigglytuff, the Balloon Pokémon. Their fur feels so good that if two snuggle together, they won't want to be separated."
"Okay, I'll start on the offensive, Wigglytuff. Gyro Ball!" Whitney commanded.
Wigglytuff began to spin with a glowing blue light, it was almost as if it were a top, it began speeding towards Bayleef.
"Light Screen and block it!" Ethan said.
Bayleef unleashed a barrier and deflected Wigglytuff, Wigglytuff was spent spinning back but managed to stop spinning.
"Bayleef! Razor Leaf!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef listened and spiked Razor Leaf straight at Wigglytuff.
"Wigglytuff, dodge it then Sing!" Wigglytuff quickly dodged and then used the move Sing.
"Wiggilytufff, Wiggaleeyetuff!" It began to sing, holding a microphone.
"What kind of move is that?" Ethan asked.
"Sing, your Bayleef is going to fall fast asleep!" Whitney said.
Ethan turned to see Bayleef, who seemed extremely drowsy, about to fall asleep, she swung from side to side, trying not to sleep.
"Bayleef! Don't fall asleep!" Ethan yelled, to no avail as Bayleef finally fell over sleeping.
"Wigglytuff, while it's down use Body Slam!" Whitney commanded.
Wigglytuff followed her orders and gave Bayleef a great big Body Slam, waking it up not so suddenly.
"Bayleef, get up please!" Ethan yelled, Bayleef got up and in a battle-ready position, remembering she was in a battle.
"Wigglytuff, now Hyper Voice!" Whitney commanded.
Wigglytuff began to scream at an extremely loud frequency. Ethan instantly had to cover his ears. Bayleef was being knocked back by the attack.
"B-Bayleef!" Ethan said, covering his ears. "Use Light Screen to block It out."
Bayleef brought up a shield in order to block out the sound, causing the sound to be blocked out.
"Wigglytuff, harder!" Whitney commanded, while covering her ears.
"Wigglytuff's hyper voice began to start cracking Bayleef's Light Screen, Bayleef was struggling even harder and began to be pushed back.
"Bayleef overpower it!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef let out a loud shout and rammed the barrier into Wigglytuff, disabling the Hyper Voice entirely. Bayleef smashed Wigglytuff to the ground, while panting heavily.
"Bayleef, now Vine Whip!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef grew two long vines and slashed them on Wigglytuff who was on the ground, it was hard enough to break the floor beneath them.
"Wigglytuff is unable to battle! Gym Leader Whitney, please bring out your last Pokémon!" Amy announced.
"Doing pretty good for a guy with only two Pokémon don't you think!" Ethan said, sticking his tongue out at Whitney.
"Return Wigglytuff, you did well. Don't worry, Miltank will show this bully a lesson." She said, kissing her Pokéball.
"This next Pokémon is my ace! Go!" She said, releasing a Miltank.
"Miltank!" Miltank said.
"One last one Bayleef, then we're golden." Ethan told Bayleef.
"Ba, Bay." Bayleef said, panting even harder now.
Ethan took out his Pokédex to scan Miltank.
"Miltank, the Milk Cow Pokémon. Its milk is packed with nutrition, making it the ultimate beverage for the sick or weary."
"Alright Miltank, start with Rollout!" Whitney yelled, Miltank listened and fired a rock blast straight at Bayleef.
"Bayleef dodge!" Ethan said. Bayleef jumped to the right and dodged the move.
"Miltank, don't let up with Rollout." Whitney yelled, Miltank followed and spammed multiple rock blast at Bayleef.
"Dodge them all Bayleef!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef dodged all the hits but began to lose a lot of energy as she kept dodging. She was finally hit with one of the Rollouts.
"Bayleef, are you okay!?" Ethan asked. The move thankfully didn't do too much, as it wasn't very effective, but still Bayleef was losing a lot of energy.
Bayleef turned to Ethan, still panting, but nodded her head and smiled. "Bay!"
"Alright now heal up with Synthesis!" Ethan yelled.
"Miltank don't give it the chance. Stomp!" Whitney yelled. Miltank stomped its foot, proceeded to shake the ground, not giving Bayleef a second to heal.
Bayleef fell to the floor, she was still conscious, but had trouble standing.
"Mil, Miltank!" Miltank laughed.
"I suggest you give up now Ethan! Your Bayleef is too tired to fight, it can barely move. And we don't plan on letting you use Synthesis either. Give up." Whitney said.
"Well, what will you do Challenger Ethan?" Amy asked.
Bayleef turned to Ethan trying to explain she could still battle, she struggled just to get up.
"You're right, I admit defeat, you win." Ethan said.
"Bay!?" Bayleef said surprised.
"I'm sorry, but I can't watch you fight like this, but man did you do great, you beat two of Whitney's Pokémon almost single-handedly, I'm going to spoil you so much after we heal up!" Ethan told her, petting her.
"Bay!" Bayleef agreed.
"And just like that I win, but hey, thanks for the battle sweetheart." Whitney said, blowing Ethan a kiss.
"Come on, let's go." Ethan said as he took Bayleef with him and left.
In all seriousness though, Whitney is not that hard ladies and gentlemen, all you need is like, one female Pokémon and she's done, and I can't say that for any of the other Gym leaders...
