Pokémon Crimson Gold

Chapter 24: The Burning of the Burned Tower

Ethan and Lyra had entered the Burned Tower after hearing of the legends of Entei, Raikou, and Suicune from Ecruteak Gym leader Morty. They had entered in hopes of meeting with these legends.

"This is going to be fun." Ethan said, seeming a little too relaxed.

"Don't you think you're taking this a little too lightly?" Lyra asked him.

"Oh, I get it, you were always scared of Ghost Pokémon, like that time Professor Elm brought a Misdreavus to school, you almost had a heart attack!" Ethan reminisced.

"Hey, that was what, five, six years ago, I'm a Trainer now, if I'm afraid of random Ghost Pokémon then I'll never get all eight badges." She spoke.

"Yeah right! I bet the minute we encounter one in this place you'll scream and freak out." Ethan laughed.

They looked around the tower and walked carefully, there were many cracks in the floor, and it was also really dark, hard to see. It was only them, at least on this floor. Ethan took another step, and right in his face was a Gastly, who was sticking its tongue out.

"Aieeeee!" Ethan screamed, he ran and hid behind Lyra, who was unphased.

The Gastly smiled and vanished, Ethan was still shaking from seeing it. Bayleef laughed at him a little.

"Who's scared of Ghost Pokémon now?" Lyra gloated.

"W-whatever." Ethan said, letting go of Lyra.

"So, what were you saying about badges?" Ethan asked, clearing his throat.

"Hmm, oh yeah, how did getting those three badges work out for you?" She asked.

"Pretty well thanks to Bayleef here." Ethan said turning to her. "I may have lost a few times like when facing Falkner or Whitney, but we never gave up, and we eventually triumphed."

"Really, I won't lie to you, I lost to Whitney once since most of my Pokémon are male, but I beat her on my second try." Lyra replied.

Lyra turned to face Bayleef. "Oh and, I'd like to apologize to you Bayleef, I don't know if you remember but soon after Ethan chose you, I made it seem like you looked weak or something, but that's clearly not the case. You gave my Houndour a run for his money, you're really something."

Bayleef nodded and smiled. It was clear Bayleef had no ill will toward Lyra.

Soon the group encountered a long stairway, making both Ethan and Lyra feel uneasy, it was long and felt foreboding. There were no candles and no light to see from.

"So... let's go, if we want to see those legendary Pokémon." Ethan said, gulping.

"Y-yeah." Lyra agreed. "It's just, something feels off about this place."

"Bayleef, follow closely, alright?" Ethan told her.

"Bay!" She said, following closely.

"On three?" Ethan asked.

"Agreed." Lyra gulped.

They took one step, before hearing a loud creak, making them jump back startled.

"I-I think this would be easier... if we held hands, maybe?" Ethan suggested, this was the part where he expected Lyra to laugh at him, but she didn't say anything and grabbed his hand.

Ethan looked at her surprised before looking back. "On three?"

"Oh yeah." Lyra said.

"One...Two..." They both said.

"Three!" The two bolted up the stairs as fast as they could, past many flights of stairs to reach the other side.

They got upstairs and started to pant heavily, they finally made it to what seemed like the top floor.

"That was, long..." Ethan said.

"Y-yeah, but I'm glad we did it, that was an accomplishment in itself." Lyra said, proud of the both of themselves.

"You think that was hard, now imagine going downstairs!" Ethan laughed.

"Haha, you bet!" She said.

After a while of wandering, they heard a crunch sound. They both looked down just to see Ethan had stepped in a piece of glass, in the reflection they noticed they were holding hands. They both instantly let go of each other, with both their faces red as a tomato.

It was awkward for a while, but it was then when Ethan heard a familiar voice.

"...Oh, it's you." A voice said.

Ethan and Lyra turned to face Silver; he was standing there with a big smirk on his face.

"A friend of yours, Ethan?" Lyra asked.

"Not a friend, this guy is Silver and he's bad news." Ethan told her.

"If I were to guess you're also here to catch the Legendary Pokémon to make yourself look strong. Well it's only a dream." Silver said.

"Oh and what, you're going to catch one?" Ethan mocked him.

"Hmph, you see, the Legendary Pokémon suits a Trainer like me who has sworn to become the strongest Trainer. A battle with Team Rocket Grunts is more in your lane!" Silver said, pulling out a Pokéball.

"Hey, if you want a battle, I'm all game." Ethan said grinning.

"It's hard to see Ethan, you sure you want to do this here?" Lyra asked.

"He started it, not me!" Ethan told her.

"Go, Haunter!" Silver said, releasing his Pokémon.

"Haunter!" Haunter exclaimed happy to battle.

"A Ghost Type Pokémon." Lyra said.

"Bayleef, I choose you!" Ethan said, Bayleef jumped in front of him, ready to battle.

"Heh, last time you may have won, but this time I will end you, and in front of your girlfriend for that matter." Silver flexed.

"She's not my- oh whatever." Ethan flustered. "Bayleef, Razor Leaf!"

Bayleef listened and with a swing of her leaf shot out many leaf blades at Silver, who simply scoffed.

"Haunter, destroy it with Will O' Wisp!" Silver commanded. The flames burned through the leaves, making Bayleef immediately dodge, the fire hit the floor, lighting up the area.

"Guys, I really don't think it's safe to fight here!" Lyra panicked. "That fire could spread!"

Ethan took notice. "Silver, this might not be the best time!"

"All that matters now is we fight!" Silver yelled. "Haunter, once again, Will O' Wisp!"

Haunter listened and fired a large flame, Bayleef once again dodged, but the flame got in the walls. The fire began to get worse as it started spreading.

"Silver, we have to go now! This is bad for both of us!" Ethan pleaded with him.

"You're not going anywhere! Haunter, Mean Look!" Silver commanded. Haunter thus sealed Bayleef's ability to leave the battlefield.

"No!" Ethan said.

"Oh no, now Bayleef has to keep fighting no matter what!?" Lyra said, freaking out.

Bayleef began to pant, the fire around her was too much for her to handle, especially with her being a Grass Type.

"Bayleef, hang in there!" Ethan yelled. "Silver please have sense, if this fire spreads were dead."

"I don't care! If dying scares you, you have no right being a Trainer. Trainers set out on journeys, putting their lives at risk all the time, this is nothing! the weak perish and the strong survive! We'll see which one are you!" Silver yelled pissed off.

The fire spread, surrounding Ethan, Silver and Lyra, pieces of the floorboard from a top them on the ceiling began to fall.

Boom! A chunk of ceiling fell, landing right next to Lyra making her scream.

"Lyra, I promise we'll get out of here!" Ethan yelled.

Silver used this to his advantage, he commanded Haunter to use Will O' Wisp on Bayleef, when Ethan wasn't paying attention, and Bayleef was hit by the flame, knocking her out instantly.

"Bayleef!" Ethan panicked.

"I-I'll have to use Azumarill to put out the flames," Lyra said, pulling out a Pokéball. It was then when her eyes began to roll back and she fell to her knees, dropping her Pokéball, it nearly rolled to the flames.

Ethan took notice, he quickly had Bayleef return to her Pokéball. "Silver, you win, now let me go help her!"

"You only lost one Pokémon, haven't you? Bring out your second one." Silver commanded Ethan.

"Please Silver! The fumes have already knocked her out! I can get to her Pokéball she dropped and release a Water type that may be able to save our lives, but only if you let me, please!" Ethan begged; he was crying with snot coming from his nose.

Silver scoffed and returned his Haunter to its Pokéball. "Now I know what kind of Trainer you are, weak."

Ethan ran over to Lyra and grabbed Azumarill's Pokéball, releasing it, upon being released Azumarill instantly understood the situation, she proceeded to shoot the fire down with Water Gun.

From the outside, the smoke could be seen from the windows, causing many to panic, some thinking a Lightning bolt struck in which the events from centuries ago would be repeated.

Azumarill tried to shoot down the flames, but there were too many, the ceiling was still crumbling, and she was failing.

"Azumarill please!" Ethan began to plead, he held Lyra in his arms, who was still unconscious.

"Lyra..." Ethan said, it was his last words before the fumes got to him, causing him to fall over on Lyra unconscious.

Azumarill tried shooting down the fire even harder, but a piece of debris came and hit her unexpectedly, knocking her out.

Silver just stood there watching the flames burn, he had accepted his poor decision and decided to go out with pride, without fear.

It was then, with a flash of lightning. Three Pokémon appeared, for what only seemed like a second to appear, in that split second Silver had seen them, he was in awe, the Pokémon appeared to be furious. It was then when he went unconscious, at the sight of them.

….

"Ethan!" "Ethan!" "Ethan!"

Ethan finally awoke after hearing his name called to him, he looked up to see Lyra, who had tears in her eyes.

"E-Ethan, you're finally awake," she said, relieved.

Ethan sat up, she was crouching right next to him, Ethan was panting heavily. He instantly checked his backpack, to make sure his four Pokémon were alright, and was relieved to find four Pokéballs.

"What a relief!" Ethan sighed. Around them was a huge crowd it appeared they caused a huge commotion.

"I'm so happy to see you're okay, Lyra!" Ethan told her.

Lyra began to tear up and wipe her tears.

Ethan looked up to see the tower, somehow it was saved, it remained the same as it had before the fire hit, confusing Ethan.

The legendary Pokémon, appeared. Silver thought. Ethan and Lyra turned to him.

"Hey asshole, you almost killed us!" Ethan said, getting up.

"What does that matter now, we're alive now aren't we?" Silver said obnoxiously.

Ethan walked up to him and punched Silver in the face, shocking everyone watching.

Silver walked back wiping his bloody chin, he got angry and punched Ethan in the face back.

"H-hey, that's uncalled for, both of you!" Lyra yelled, she got in the middle of them and moved them away from each other.

"Ethan, he's right as much as I hate to say it. All that matters is that we're alive now, along with all our Pokémon!" Lyra told Ethan, grabbing his hand.

Ethan couldn't believe what we was hearing. He scoffed and shook his hand, forcing her off of him.

"What the hell is wrong with you! Are you telling me you forgive him?!" Ethan accused her.

"N-no, don't put words in my mouth, I just don't want to see you get hurt!" Lyra said.

"Agh, I don't get you! You say you don't want me to get hurt yet that's all you've ever done to me before!" Ethan yelled at her. "You all of a sudden come back to me acting like you're my friend after treating me like shit for years, and now you think you can care!?"

"I know, I know, and maybe I feel awful about it alright... I regret it Ethan, there! But now all I'm saying, I really care about you and-" She didn't even finish before Ethan interrupted her.

"No Lyra! Now you're all caring! Now you like me! Now you're all forgiving! And you're even going to forgive this prick!" Ethan said, pointing at Silver.

Silver didn't say anything, he was surprised to see Ethan talk to Lyra like that in front of everyone.

Lyra looked around and began to cry, she couldn't help herself.

"And now you cry! God, I don't understand you at all!" Ethan bawled.

"Well I'm sorry Ethan, and I'll admit I've made plenty of mistakes," she said, sniffling and wiping her tears. "You were right; I was wrong to come back and try to pick up where we left off. We're done."

Lyra ran off, trying her hardest not to cry, the people watching in the crowd felt bad for her.

"Good! You think I give a damn!" Ethan shouted, trying to get her to hear him.

"That wasn't right kid." Someone in the audience said.

Ethan looked around to see the disapproving eyes of everyone watching, he immediately ignored it and turned to Silver,

"Hey Silver, you're lucky I don't feel like fighting anymore, cause if I did, I'd kill you!" Ethan threatened him before running off in the opposite direction of Lyra.

"You say that, yet you run off, coward!" Silver clapped back, once again wiping his chin.

As Ethan ran off into the distance, he had no clue, but a top the buildings of Ecruteak, the legendary trio of Entei, Suicune, and Raikou were watching.

Oof, Ethan messed up here, please leave reviews as well, I'd like to see what everyone thinks of this story!
