Pokémon Crimson Gold
Chapter 25: Regret
After healing up his Pokémon, Ethan sat at a bench not too far from Ecruteak City. It was about three hours since the Burning of the Burned Tower, and since Ethan made a big commotion. Bayleef sat with him and tried to cheer up her Trainer.
"Bay, Bay!" She said, trying to talk to Ethan. Ethan didn't even look at her, he just stayed there lost in thought.
Bayleef then reached and opened Ethan's backpack with her mouth, the Pokéballs fell out, releasing his Pokémon. Flaaffy, Togepi, and Eevee.
"To, Togepi!" Togepi said, jumping in Ethan's lap, Ethan noticed, but didn't say anything.
Flaaffy noticed Ethan's sadness, he jumped on the bench, and hugged him. Ethan finally moved and put his arm around both Flaaffy and Togepi.
Bayleef smiled and once again licked the side of Ethan's face. Ethan smiled and reached over to pet her on the neck.
Eevee stayed back, watching Ethan, she felt bad for her new Trainer, but wasn't enough used to affection to actually join in.
"You guys, I'm happy you all want me to cheer up and all, but I don't deserve it, I messed up big time today." Ethan said, unhappy himself, unable to even look Bayleef, or the rest of his Pokémon in the eyes.
Bayleef looked down at Pokégear, Ethan took notice, and understood what she was trying to say.
"I know, I should apologize to her, but she probably never wants to hear from me again." Ethan said.
"Bay!" Bayleef said, reassuring Ethan. Togepi jumped up in his lap clutching Ethan's jacket, Flaaffy stood up and tried to plead with Ethan.
Ethan pulled up his sleeve, grabbing his Pokégear. "You guys really think so?"
They all jumped up, trying to assure Ethan it was the right thing to do.
Ethan smiled and began dialing her number, he had deleted her contact not too long ago but remembered her number, he never forgot. He had the choice to either dial her number or leave a message.
She'll probably not answer if I call her, it's best I leave a message. He realized.
"Hey Lyra, it's me... Ethan. I know you probably don't want to hear from me right now, and I can't blame you, I wouldn't want to hear from me either right now, I just wanted to tell you I'm awful, and... I'm sorry. You don't have to forgive me, not this time." Ethan said, not sure of what else to say.
Ethan then shut off his Pokégear, surprising his Pokémon. "No, I can't do it, not like this, if I apologize to her, it has to mean a damn, and it has to be in person!"
Ethan sat and covered his eyes with his hands, not even wanting to look at his Pokémon.
It was then when Ethan felt something jump in his lap, it wasn't Togepi, he looked to see Eevee, she sat in Ethan's lap, looking to Ethan's eyes with a sad look on her face, yet she was smiling.
Ethan wiped his tear, it was the first time Eevee had shown him anything really close to affection, he moved his hand, to reach and pet her, but it was then when he heard someone approaching him.
Ethan looked up to see Silver, he was standing about fifteen feet away from him, with his hands in his pockets.
"What do you want!?" Ethan asked in an angry tone,
Silver smiled and pulled out a Pokéball. "We still haven't finished our business from earlier, I say we settle this once and for all."
"You still want to fight, after everything!?" Ethan said in disbelief.
"Of course, there is nothing to this life but battling for me. Proving my superiority over others fulfills me and proving my superiority over you is simply a must." Silver said.
"You already won Silver; you beat me remember!" Ethan reminded him.
"It was a hollow victory, your heart was never in the game, thus it meant nothing to me." Silver said. "Now I see you have four Pokémon, and coincidentally I do as well, let us see who the better Trainer is here and now!"
Ethan stood up, Bayleef and Eevee on his left. Togepi and Flaaffy on his right.
"Fine, I'll prove my superiority over you one more time then." Ethan declared.
"That's the spirit, now go Quilava, make me proud!" Silver said throwing a Pokéball, releasing his Quilava.
"Quil...ava!" Quilava roared.
"Go, Flaaffy, I choose you!" Ethan said pointing.
Flaaffy jumped in front of Ethan prepared to fight. They we're battling on an empty court, no one could distract them.
"Quilava, Smokescreen!" Silver commanded.
Flaaffy listened and shot out smoke, blinding Flaaffy's vision.
"Flaaffy, move out the way and Thunder Bolt!" Ethan yelled.
"Thunder Bolt!?" Silver said surprised.
Instead of that move, Flaaffy instead fired a Confuse Ray, hitting Quilava point blank.
"I told Flaaffy whenever I ask him to use a move he doesn't know, that means to use Confuse Ray." Ethan told Silver.
"Damn you, Quilava return!" Silver said, returning Quilava.
"Now go, Magneton!" Silver said, throwing a Pokéball. Releasing his new Pokémon.
Magneton was released causing Ethan to bring out his Pokédex.
"Don't take your eyes off the battle!" Silver yelled. "Magneton, use Flash Cannon!"
Magneton began to charge a steel type move, causing Ethan to show some concern since the attack would be Super Effective if hit.
Magneton shot a beam directly at Flaaffy, Flaaffy's eyes lit up with worry.
"Flaaffy, dodge and use Fire Punch!" Ethan said,
"Pfft, again with your trickery, no way Flaaffy know a single fire type moves!" Silver scoffed. "Magneton, use Wild Charge!"
Magneton charged with Electric energy and rushed towards Flaaffy, who leaped in the air, doing what Silver assumed to be a tackle.
"Flaaffy do it!" Ethan yelled. It was then when Flaaffy's fist charged with fire, shocking Silver.
Flaaffy punched the Magneton directly, knocking it to the ground causing Super Effective damage.
"Now Flaaffy, Fire Punch once more!" Ethan yelled. Flaaffy obliged and charged another Fire Punch.
"Magneton, Supersonic!" Silver yelled, trying to pull off a confusion of his own, but it was too late, Flaaffy smashed Magneton into the ground at tremendous speed, enough to kick up a medium sized dust cloud.
When the smoke left, Magneton was unable to battle.
"Magneton return!" Silver said, returning his Pokémon. "You fail me."
"Be nicer to your Pokémon jerk!" Ethan yelled.
Silver scoffed and threw another Pokémon. Haunter was released.
Haunter stuck out its tongue and taunted Flaaffy.
"Flaaffy, to me." Ethan said, Flaaffy turned around and leapt towards him.
"Bayleef, let's settle this battle from earlier," Ethan told her.
Bayleef nodded and leapt onto the battlefield.
"Bayleef!" She let out a proud roar.
"Ethan, Bayleef is a weak Pokémon, you'd be better off releasing it..." Silver said.
"Err shut up!" Ethan yelled. "Bayleef prove him wrong! Start with Razor Leaf!"
Bayleef shot out her leaves at Haunter, who proceeded to move out the way dodging all of them easily.
"Haunter, Icy Wind!" Silver commanded.
Haunter obliged and let out a shout, it was then when the atmosphere began to get extremely cold, Bayleef began to shiver as snow and hail hit her.
"Bayleef!" Ethan screamed.
"Bay...!" Bayleef growled, she tried to move forward to get out of the Icy Winds range, but the Super Effective Damage began to get to her.
"Bayleef! I know you can do it!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef once again let out a strong shout, and began to step forward, despite the cold. Like that, Bayleef survived the cold and continued to run for Haunter.
"Haunter, Will O' Wisp!" Silver demanded.
Haunter shot out more fire blasts at Bayleef but Bayleef managed to dodge them all, it got in Haunter's face front and center.
"Now, use your special Vine Whip!" Ethan yelled.
Haunter was surprised to see Bayleef fighting so offensively compared to last time, startling it.
"Haunter, what are you doing!? Will O' Wisp!" Silver yelled.
Haunter was about to charge another Will O' Wisp, but Bayleef reached with Vine Whip and caught Haunter by the tongue.
"Slam Haunter over and over!" Ethan commanded.
Bayleef spun Haunter in the air and smashed it to the ground at full speed, before holding Haunter in the air, and slamming it over again, all while holding Haunter in the air.
"Haunter, Destiny Bond!" Silver commanded, Haunter agreed and fired a beam at Bayleef, one that did no damage, but managed to send chills down Bayleef's spine, she let go of her hold on Haunter.
What was that? Ethan wondered.
"Haunter, now, Will O' Wisp!" Silver said.
Haunter charged up multiple Will O' Wisps, alarming Ethan and Bayleef.
"Light Screen!" Ethan yelled. Bayleef listened and shot up her barrier. Haunter threw Will O' Wisps at the barrier, but it didn't destroy it, Bayleef began to walk forward, causing Silver to freak.
"Haunter, break it, it's just a Grass Type!" Silver yelled.
"That doesn't matter Ethan, Light Screen is a Psychic type move, and Haunter's a Ghost type!" Ethan lectured him.
Bayleef managed to walk up to Haunter, still with the Light Screen. Haunter began to charge another Will O' Wisp, so in response Bayleef charged the shield into Haunter, smacking it to the ground with tremendous power.
"Now slam it once more!" Ethan yelled.
Bayleef raised the shield, and once again pounded it into Haunter in the face, even stronger this time, hard enough the shield shattered into a million pieces before dissolving.
"It's over!" Ethan said, proud of Bayleef.
"Haunter come back." Silver said, returning Haunter without a fuss of its performance.
It was then when Bayleef was suddenly blasted by seemingly nothing, she cried out in pain before falling to the floor unconscious.
"Awe, Bayleef!" Ethan yelled. "What's wrong?"
Ethan jumped and ran to Bayleef to see what happened.
"It's a move called Destiny Bond, Haunter took Bayleef with it, Bayleef is out of the battle." Silver smirked.
Ethan took Bayleef with him to the opposite side and set her on the bench. She was out cold, "Thank you Bayleef, you were wonderful out there." He told her, even though she couldn't hear.
Silver pulled out another Pokéball. "I like your Eevee, do you want to see mine?" He asked.
Silver threw is Pokéball, releasing an Eevee of his own.
"Eevee!" Eevee howled.
Ethan's Eevee walked back as Silver's glared directly at her, she looked back to see Bayleef knocked out on the bench, filling her with anger.
"Eevee!" She yelled, jumping on the court, facing off with Silver's.
"Eevee, you really want to battle, girl?" Ethan said surprised.
"Now that I see it up close, it looks weak and scrawny, no shape to fight mine." Silver said confidently.
"Oh yeah, Eevee show him he's wrong!" Ethan yelled. "Now Quick Attack!"
Ethan's Eevee rushed into Silver's however it barely managed to push it back.
"That's a Quick Attack? Eevee, show it ours!" Silver yelled.
Silver's Eevee ran at speeds Ethan's couldn't keep up with, it bashed into Ethan's smashing her into the air.
"Eevee!" Ethan yelled scared for her safety.
"Eevee, use Shadow Ball!" Silver yelled.
Silver's Eevee charged from its mouth dark energy, blasting Ethan's causing a large explosion.
"Eevee!" Ethan yelled. Ethan's Eevee fell to the ground, she was damaged bad and struggled to get up.
"Alright Eevee return, I don't want to see you especially, getting hurt!" Ethan told her.
Eevee shook her head refusing, she wanted to battle.
"Eevee..." Ethan said, unsure of what to do.
Eevee let out a roar and unleashed a swift attack, the stars were fast enough to land hits on Silver's without it even noticing in time, it managed to dodge only two stars, getting hit with the rest.
"E-Eevee!" It groaned.
"Eevee! Bite now!" Silver said.
Silver's Eevee pounced and bit Ethan's Eevee on the neck, causing Ethan's Eevee to scream in pain.
"No Eevee!" Ethan yelled.
"Now once again Shadow Ball!" Silver yelled, his Eevee listened, and while biting Ethan's charged a Shadow Ball, hitting her with direct contact.
Ethan's Eevee was rolled over as it was knocked all the way back, she was knocked out and unable to continue.
"Eevee, thank you, you did great!" Ethan said, but before he could finish Silver commanded his Eevee to once again use Shadow Ball at Eevee.
His Eevee launched another Shadow Ball, blasting it insane speed.
"What are you doing!" Ethan screamed in shock.
Ethan went in to go and protect his Eevee from the blast, but before he could Flaaffy jumped in and protected her, tanking the damage along with the small explosion it caused.
"Flaaffy, you saved her!" Ethan exclaimed relieved.
When the smoke cleared, Flaaffy turned around, his back was damaged, but more importantly Flaaffy was extremely pissed off and ready to tear Silver's Eevee apart.
"You almost killed her!" Ethan said enraged, returning her to her Pokéball.
"Now or in sickness and disease what difference does it make?" Silver said. "Look at it, I was trying to show it mercy."
Ethan's eyes lit up with anger. "Flaaffy, we're going to wipe the floor with his Eevee!" Ethan told Flaaffy, who was on the same page.
"Flaaffyyy!" Flaaffy shrieked, his eyes were red with outrage.
"Eevee use Quick Attack!" Silver commanded.
Eevee rushed towards Flaaffy, leaping and smashing into Flaaffy, but it didn't even manage to nudge Flaaffy back a foot.
"E-Eevee?" His Eevee said shocked.
"What!?" Silver said.
"Flaaffy, Fire Punch now!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy charged an empowered Fire Punch, and smashed Silver's Eevee in the skull at full power, hard enough it could send Eevee skyrocketing, but before it could go off Flaaffy caught it by its tail. Eevee was suddenly zapped by a jolt electricity, Flaaffy's static had landed.
Flaaffy smashed Eevee into the ground, hard enough Eevee spit up blood, its back was devastated, and so was the ground below it, which cracked.
"Confuse Ray!" Ethan yelled. Flaaffy listened and shot the Eevee with confusion, making it wobble around while its tail was in Flaaffy's hand.
"Now, inflict all the damage you can to it! Discharge, let's go!" Ethan commanded. Flaaffy followed and unleashed its bright blue electricity, zapping Eevee to the point of oblivion, releasing all its electricity in the process.
Silver's Eevee was burnt out, past the point of unconsciousness. Flaaffy held it in the air and threw it across back to Silver while making sure to smash it across the ground, it was in no condition to continue.
"Eevee return!" Silver said returning it to its Pokéball. "That Flaaffy was brutal, it gains my respect."
"Flaaffy doesn't want your respect, just hurry up and throw out Quilava, your last Pokémon, right? Ethan asked.
"Quilava, go!" Silver said, throwing his Pokéball.
"Quilava!" Quilava screeched, its projected flame burning brighter than ever.
"One more to go Flaaffy!" Ethan yelled.
"Flaaffy!" Flaaffy howled.
"Heh, Quilava Flamethrower!"
Quilava huffed and puffed and shot out a large burst of fire, enough to shock Ethan. "Flaaffy move quick!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy dodged the blast and moved out the way in time.
"Quilava Flame Charge!" Silver yelled, Quilava leaped and went on the offensive as Silver almost always had his Pokémon do.
"Flaaffy, Confuse Ray!" Ethan yelled.
Flaaffy shot a Confuse Ray, but Quilava bounced to the ground before bouncing back and crashing into Flaaffy.
Flaaffy smashed into the ground, its face had faceplanted into the dirt, it struggled to get out.
"Flaaffy hang in there!" Ethan yelled.
"Now Quilava, grab Flaaffy by the tail!" Silver said.
Quilava raised Flaaffy into the air by the tail. Ethan began to stress.
"This is how Flaaffy held my Eevee yes?" He gloated. "Quilava, Flamethrower!"
Quilava breathed its fire straight in Flaaffy's face, doing direct damage before dropping Flaaffy to the ground. Flaaffy was clearly unable to battle. Quilava kicked Flaaffy back to Ethan, Ethan quickly caught Flaaffy in his arms.
"Flaaffy you were amazing out there, now go and take a long rest; you deserve it." Ethan said, returning Flaaffy to his Pokéball.
From behind, Bayleef walked up to Ethan and nudged her head against him.
"You're awake Bayleef, thank goodness!" Ethan exclaimed.
"Even though Bayleef already lost, feel free to send it in, Quilava would love tearing it in two." Silver mocked, as Quilava breathed its flame into the sky.
"Togepi, you know what to do!" Ethan said smiling.
Togepi leaped up from behind Ethan and jumped into the battlefield.
"Togepi!" Togepi happily exclaimed.
"What a pathetic looking Pokémon." Silver said. "Quilava, Flamethrower!"
Quilava blasted Togepi with its Flamethrower, Togepi playfully skipped to his side and avoided it.
"Quilava Flame Charge now!" Silver yelled.
"Now Metronome!" Ethan yelled. Togepi wagged his finger and his mouth widened as it unleashed a Hydro Pump at Quilava, shocking Silver. Quilava, was hit point blank with the move, inflicting Super Effective Damage.
Quilava fell to the ground after the last hit, struggling to get up after the last hit, it was then when it was zapped by a huge bolt of electricity.
"S-static!?" Silver said angry.
"Heh, looks like Flaaffy's static managed to also inflict on Quilava. "Alright Togepi, Quilava's weak, make papa proud and use Tackle.
Togepi playfully ran up to the paralyzed Quilava and tackled into its gut, making Quilava fall over unconscious.
"Togepi! You won!" Ethan happily exclaimed. Togepi ran back to Ethan and jumped in his arms laughing.
"I knew you could do it!" Ethan laughed as he spun Togepi in the air.
Silver returned his Quilava to its Pokéball. "Quilava, I won't forget your failure."
"After all that you insult your Quilava!" Ethan said. "Be grateful it even listens to you, it's not even yours!"
"Silence! Your words mean nothing to me, I'll be back." Silver said, turning away from Ethan.
"Silver, your Pokémon will never reach their full potential with a bastard like you, how can a Pokémon nourish when treated like dirt by its Trainer." Ethan lectured.
Silver left not saying another word. Ethan turned to Bayleef, who had an uneasy look on her face.
"Bayleef, let's go..." Ethan said. Ready to move on from here.
This was a brutal fight to write, and I loved every single second of it. Also disclaimed, I am aware ghost type moves can't hurt normal type Pokéball, but during writing this I was under the assumption Shadow Ball was a dark type move and not a ghost type one, don't worry, I won't make a mistake like that again, but at the same time I don't feel like going back and changing it so... \_ (ツ)_/¯"
