Pokémon Crimson Gold
Chapter 58: Rocket in Goldenrod
Ethan quickly ran the streets of Goldenrod battling as many Team Rocket members as possible. Team Rocket had came to Goldenrod and it was time for him to defend the people of the city.
"Hand over all your Pokémon!" A Team Rocket member said cornering a woman backing her into a back alley. He held a sharp knife he was threatening her with.
"P-please! I'm not a Trainer, I don't have any Pokémon!" The girl said backing into a dumpster as she took steps back from the Rocket grunt.
"Well hand over something! Money, wallet, belongings, anything!" The grunt said waving the knife around in his hand.
"I-I have a husband and a kid on the way!" The woman said pointing to her pregnant belly while crying. "Please just don't kill me!"
The Team Rocket grunt held the knife to the woman's neck while he put his hands into her pockets. The woman scared out of her mind stopped her tears in fear of what the knife would do to her neck as she felt it could reach a vein.
The grunt grabbed her wallet taking away the knife and checked how much she had on her disappointed to see barely five thousand Poké dollars.
"This is scrap change, barely minimum wage!" The grunt yelled pissed off striking fear into the woman. He again put the knife to her neck. "You must have a card, hand it over or you're dead!"
"Have mercy!" The woman screamed as she kneeled to the ground covering her head while crying profusely.
Before the Team Rocket grunt could harm the woman in any way he heard a footstep coming from behind him so he turned to see who it was.
"Leave her alone!" Said a voice belonging to a girl with a confident voice.
The grunt turned around to see the Gym leader of the city, Whitney.
"You jerk, why don't you pick on someone your own size!" Whitney said making the grunt mad.
"R-run! He has a knife!" The crying pregnant woman screamed at Whitney, who laughed it off.
"Clearly you don't know who I am, but don't worry I'm a Trainer after all." Whitney assured the woman.
"I know you, you're Whitney, the Gym leader!" He said with a smirk. "You trying to be a hero!?"
Whitney ignored the grunt's comment and focused her attention to the pregnant lady.
"Don't worry, my cute Pokémon will save the day!" She said pulling out a Pokéball.
"Hmph, a battle you want a battle you get!" The grunt said putting the knife away and pulling out a Pokéball of his own and throwing it. "Go! Graveler!"
"Graveler!" Said the bulky, boulder-like Pokémon. It was round and its body was covered with small bumps and with a rocky crest above its small eyes and mouth. Not only that but if flexed its four arms each with three fingers.
"My Graveler will rip you in two!" Said the grunt with an evil grin.
"Miltank, make momma proud!" Whitney said throwing her Pokéball.
"Miltank!" The cow Pokémon cried landing in front of her Trainer.
"Weak-looking!" The grunt scoffed. "Graveler, Headbutt!"
Graveler leaped and attempted to bash its head in Miltank to which Miltank responded firing back a Rollout attack smashing Graveler in the head sending it falling back on its face.
"Grav...eler..." It moaned in pain.
"What! That was a same type move, that shouldn't even tickle!" The grunt yelled at his Pokémon. "Hurry up and squash that thing!"
Graveler finally got up after panting heavily, struggling to stand up straight.
"Looks like you're new to battling, but when a Pokémon fights a Pokémon that's simply on a higher level even same types moves can do some serious damage!" She said wagging her finger.
"Y-you bitch! G-Graveler! Seismic Toss!" The grunt yelled.
Graveler leaped trying to catch Miltank with its arms wide open.
"That's nothing! Miltank, bounce!" Whitney cried. Miltank leaped at a faster speed than the Graveler and landed its feet on the Graveler pushing it into the ground at max speed.
"G-Graveler!" It grunted as it fell to the ground kicking up smoke.
"This can't be happening!" The grunt began to panic.
"S-she can actually win!" The pregnant lady cried with tears of joy.
"Now, crush it!" Whitney screamed.
Miltank leaped further crushing the rock type into the ground before flipping off the defeated Pokémon.
"Mil, Miltank!" It said victoriously.
"Yay! You won Miltank, just as expected!" Whitney said clapping her hands happily. "And you looked super cute while doing it too!"
"How could this be!?" The grunt said while returning his Graveler.
"Now get on out of here before my Miltank slaps you silly!" Whitney threatened with Miltank nodding its head.
The grunt instead let out a smirk and pointed his gun at the pregnant woman who simply tucked her head into her knees and hugged them in fear.
"D-don't try anything stupid!" Whitney barked.
"You just had to try and be a hero!" The grunt said grabbing the woman by her arm making her scream.
"P-please... just leave me alone!" The woman cried shaking her entire body in fear.
"Shut up, or the baby goes first!" The grunt said pointing the knife to her belly.
"T-think about this, please!" Whitney begged, but the man simply laughed maniacally.
It was then however when vines broke from the ground beneath the man, one grabbing hold of his knife and snatching it away.
"W-what the hell!?" The grunt freaked. There were two other vines, one grabbing him by his body and another by his neck.
"Good job Bayleef." Said a familiar voice to Whitney, she turned to see Ethan and his starter Bayleef.
"Bay!" Bayleef let out sounding angered. She finally let the grunt go as she had knocked him unconscious from her chokehold.
"It's you! You're a life saver!" Whitney said relieved as she wiped some sweat from her face.
"It was nothing." Ethan said humbly. "You did most the work."
"Oh, thank you, thank you both!" Said the woman as she approached Ethan and Whitney. "You both saved a baby's life today!"
"I'm just glad you're alright." Ethan said.
"It's simply out responsibility as Trainer's. That's all." Whitney smiled. "Now come with me, I'll take you to my gym! I'm having civilians go and head over there for shelter."
"Yes, that sounds wonderful!" The pregnant lady said happily.
"You coming kiddo?" Whitney asked to Ethan. "Maybe it's best you continue fighting any Team Rocket you find."
"Oh I plan too." Ethan said. "Got to defend the streets and find my father."
"Good luck then." Whitney waved before turning her attention to the girl. "Now let's get you safe!"
"Let's." The woman said following behind the Gym leader.
Ethan turned back to the Team Rocket grunt, who was just know coming to his senses.
"W-what's going on!?" He said recollecting himself. He looked up to see an angry Ethan and Bayleef.
"Tell me what's your guy's plan in here." Ethan said getting on his knees to talk to the man.
"Pfft. Think I'd tell a kid and jeopardize our entire plan!? Well think again!" The man laughed pointing a finger at Ethan.
Bayleef jumped in and with her Vine Whip smacked him in the hand turning it red causing the grunt to cry out in pain.
"Aiee!" He screamed grasping his bloody hand.
"You should be the one thinking!" Ethan said in a confrontational voice. "What do you think is going to happen to you if you don't tell me?"
Bayleef stared down the grunt in the eyes, he knew he had no other choice.
"T-the radio tower." The grunt finally admitted. "We want to make a broadcast to all of Johto saying we're alive."
So the radio tower huh, Ethan thought as he stood up.
"You know, it really doesn't matter if you know our plans or not, what is one boy going to do to our entire organization!?" The grunt scoffed.
"Oh really, because all it takes is one person." Ethan said with a smirk. "Team Rocket should know that better than anyone else, after all you guys are the ones who were beaten by a single Trainer back in Kanto."
"Bay!" Bayleef agreed.
"S-shut up! Just leave me be!" The grunt yelled.
"Fine, sure thing. I'll leave you be." Ethan said surprising the Team Rocket.
"W-wait, really?" The grunt said surprised.
"Sure, why not. But on one condition, I'm going to need your clothes." Ethan said. "Start stripping!?
"W-what!?" The grunt cried out confused.
….
Ethan, now donned in the clothing of Team Rocket was able to enter the radio building without a fuss, now recognized as a member of Team Rocket. While running inside the building the Trainer knew he was triumphant.
"You look a little young to be on our Team but, the more the merrier!" Said one grunt.
"Looking good kid!" Said another however Ethan completely ignored them.
As I hoped, they didn't recognize me... Ethan thought.
Bayleef who was behind him couldn't hold back her smile, how easily they had gotten in.
Ethan passed by a crying radio worker who let out a squeal from behind the front desk upon seeing another Team Rocket member, the boy stopped in place to look at her.
"A-a child, in the ranks of Team Rocket?" She said confused after realizing just how the alleged Team Rocket looked.
Ethan turned his head and standing before a flight of stairs was another Team Rocket member who was watching Ethan, the boy knew he had to be careful to not blow his cover but at the same time didn't want to scare the victim.
"Y-you better shut up and sit down!" Ethan said holding his hands up and as if he was surrendering, the front desk lady although confused began to catch on. Ethan winked at her and she then understood the situation, wiping her tears.
"Ha! You must be new!" Said the grunt just before the flight of stairs.
"Ugh, yeah yeah!" Ethan lied. "Just got the job and was told to come here, you know how it is. Think I'm supposed to go and check out that broadcast room or something?"
"Bayleef Bay!" Bayleef said as she nodded head, also lying.
"You look pretty good in the Team Rocket uniform!" The grunt said with a look of approval. "Go on ahead!"
"Yes, thanks!" Ethan said with a smile before turning to his starter. "Come on then."
Bayleef nodded and then followed behind Ethan but that was when someone approached the two from behind.
"Hey, Team Rocket!" Said a voice Ethan instantly knew.
Silver!? Ethan thought, he turned around to see who indeed Silver was.
"Stop going around in groups and troubling people. You cowards!" Silver yelled with a disgusted look on his face. Ethan was actually a bit surprised to hear Silver speak so righteously.
"Shut up kid!" The grunt yelled. "You're really starting to get on my nerves!"
Ethan turned his face suddenly as he realized he couldn't have his red-head rival recognize him or else he may be in trouble, but it only caused for Silver to take notice of him.
"...Huh?" Silver said focusing his attention to Ethan who turned around scared his cover would be blown. "Are you Ethan? What are you doing here?"
"What's going on here!" The grunt said just as confused as Silver.
"Ethan?" Ethan said playing dumb. "Really, who is this Ethan! I'm just a member of Team Rocket same as this this fellow right here."
"Nope, you're Ethan! I know that for a fact!" Silver said. "
"C-could you be, an imposter?" Asked the grunt making Ethan shake his head no,
"I promise you, this kid is delusional, I've never met him before in my whole life." Ethan explained.
"No way... you think you're strong now that you look like them?" Silver asked with a hint of anger in his eyes. "That's foolish! You shouldn't wear those things!"
Silver reached and removed Ethan's Team Rocket hat and throwing it onto the ground.
"What? You! You're not a newcomer?" Said the grunt in shock before pulling out a Pokéball. "Then battle with me!"
"You just had to blow my cover..." Ethan whispered to Silver who simply scoffed.
"T-the kid really is on my side!" The desk lady said feeling relieved.
"Now stand by for battle, Magby!" He yelled releasing his Pokémon.
Magby was a Pokémon with a red body and a yellow, flame-shaped marking on its stomach, Its head was huge and covered with large lumps, with a rounded yellow beak. It had a single spike on its back and a tapered tail.
"Magby!" Mabgy cried out.
Ethan took out his Pokémon to scan the Magby.
"Magby, the Live Coal Pokémon. Each and every time it inhales and exhales, hot embers dribble from its mouth and nostrils."
"A fire type?" Ethan said before turning to Bayleef. "You've got his girl."
"Bay!" She said leaping onto the battlefield.
"Hmph, fighting with that big a Type disadvantage?" Silver asked to Ethan as he backed up from the battle.
"Bayleef's a strong Pokémon, just shut up and watch." Ethan said confident in her abilities.
"Mega Punch!" The grunt yelled, Magby came fourth rushing at Bayleef with a glowing bright fist.
"Bayleef!" Ethan said and with that she knew what to do, she brought up her Vine Whip's allowing her to block the move entirely by clutching on to the Magby's arm.
"Ma, Magby!?" The fire type cried out.
"Now smack it!" Ethan yelled, Bayleef listened and smacked it with her Vine Whip instantly knocking out the fire type.
"Oh crapp!" The grunt said amazed his Pokémon could be so damaged even with a not very effective move.
"Bayleef, continue with Magical Leaf!" Ethan roared.
Bayleef swung her leaf sending multiple sharp and lightning-fast leaves straight for the Magby, but it unfortunately dodged in midair.
"Now, Fire Blast!" The grunt ordered.
"Fire Blast!?" Ethan said a bit startled.
Magby pulled its head back and unleashed a large flame that if landed would easily have taken out Bayleef. The grass type responded by holding up her Light Screen and blocking the flame.
"I-impossible!" The grunt screamed getting worked up.
Bayleef had used her vine to catch Magby by one leg, it swung down sending Magby hard into the ground smashing it and instantly knocking it out cold.
"M-Magby...!" Magby groaned in defeat.
"Now here's what's going to happen, you're going to leave this place and never harm anyone else, got it!?" Ethan asked with the grunt nodding profusely.
"G-got it! It's early retirement for me!" The grunt yelled as he ran out of their as fast as he could through the front door.
"I see. You were trying to be sneaky..." Silver realized.
"Yeah, thanks to you my cover was blown." Ethan reiterated.
"Huh! A typical idea of the meek!" Silver snarled. "No matter. I'll let you handle this."
"Good, so you don't want to face me?" Ethan asked his rival surprised he wasn't challenging him.
"A strong Trainer entered here, a Trainer who used a Feraligatr, he appeared to have strength that may even rival that Dragon Tamer, what was his name...? Lance?"
That's got to be dad! Ethan realized. He turned to Bayleef who nodded her head.
"Compared to how I saw that man battle, you Ethan are nothing!" Silver remarked "I'll deal with you later if I must, but as of now you are a mere after thought!"
Silver backed away before turning around and quickly running up the stairs. Ethan sighed and simply turned to the lady at the front desk.
"You're safe now, are you alright?" Ethan asked.
"Yes! Thank you, thank you!" She said leaping and jumping over the counter. "You're a hero. I wish I could repay you!"
"Don't worry about it, helping out civilians like you is payment enough." Ethan smiled. "I-It's not safe outside, but I know somewhere you can go, I can escort you."
"Thank you, really." She spoke. "Please do."
"Alright, then let's go." Ethan said before turning to the long flight of stairs. "Oh and... I think I may need a ticket, but I'm going to be going to that broadcast room when I get back."
"Of course, of course." The woman said a she stood by the door.
"Come on Bayleef!" Ethan said as his starter followed behind him.
"Bay!" She cried.
