Pokémon Crimson Gold

Chapter 61: The key to getting stronger

After awaking from a five-day comma and having to deal with the consequences of his actions, Ethan was challenged to a battle by his rival Silver and finally agreed after the red head insulted his injured Bayleef.

"Did I strike a nerve: It appears talk of your half dead starter angers you, then why don't you face me!" Silver said with a smirk on his face as he further enraged Ethan.

"Fine then! But let me warn you. You're going to regret ever talking badly about my Bayleef!" Ethan bellowed as he took out a Pokéball.

"Let's see if your threats aren't simply empty words." Silver smiled also with a Pokéball in hand.

"Silver!" Ethan screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Ethan!" Silver roared back appearing to be static.

"I choose you, Heracross!" Ethan yelled as he threw his Pokéball.

"Hera Hera!" Heracross roared as he landed before Ethan.

"That weak bug type from before I see." Silver said as he threw his Pokéball, unleashing his Scizor.

"Scizor!" Scizor said in its cold robotic sounding voice, it snapped its pincers viciously to intimidate Heracross.

"Heracross Hera..." Heracross said forming a battle stance.

"Last time my Scizor easily defeated your Heracross, and the result will end the same." Silver said confident.

"I wouldn't be so sure Silver, Heracross isn't the same as he was back then. Isn't that right Heracross?" Ethan asked.

"Hera!" Heracross confirmed flexing his muscles.

"We'll just have to see about that." Silver scoffed.

Either way I'm at a disadvantage, I only have five Pokémon and Silver has six, Ethan noted.

"Scizor, start with X Scissor!" Silver commanded.

The Scizor rushed towards Heracross forming a cross with its hands moving at light speeds.

"Dodge it fast!" Ethan yelled.

Just in time Heracross leaped just about two steps backwards avoiding Scizor's attack, with his right arm he punched the Pincer Pokémon straight in the face.

"Scizor..." It groaned in landing on its back however at the instant back flipping to land on its feet.

"You see Silver, Heracross is much stronger than he was before! Now Heracross Close Combat!" Ethan said.

Heracross listened and pounced off the ground leaving behind a smoke of dust, he reappeared before Scizor and unleashed a fury of blows each hitting like a tank.

"This can't be!" Silver panicked as his Scizor was hit back and forth at rapid speed. "Don't just stand there and take it, Fury Cutter!"

Scizor raised one arm into the air while getting his face bashed in prepared to use the Fury Cutter. It swiped its arm down in a quick motion causing Heracross to jump back to dodge.

"Now's your chance, Air Slash!" Silver roared.

"No, get out of there Heracross!" Ethan yelled knowing the bug and fighting type would be at a four times disadvantage.

It was too late however as Heracross was smashed with the move creating a large explosion which engulfed him along with half the battlefield.

"Scizor!" Scizor said triumphantly forming an x with its arms.

"Augh, Heracross return..." Ethan said pulling out his Pokéball to return Heracross, but to his surprise once the smoke cleared Heracross was gone.

"What!" Silver freaked.

Right behind Scizor was Heracross who had been hit head on by the Air Slash but was still ready to continue.

"Hera Hera!" Heracross bellowed alarming Scizor who turned around appearing to be frightened.

"Sci-Scizor..." It said shocked at Heracross's resilience.

"Now, Close Combat!" Ethan yelled.

Heracross listened and once more let loose with a fierce Close Combat continuously bashing Scizor's face in with repeated punches to its face.

"Damn it!" Silver cursed.

Scizor may be a bug type which would normally make it resistant to fighting type moves, but it's also a steel type, meaning this should work well. Ethan noted.

As the pummeling continued Scizor finally on his own used Agility, making multiple afterimages around Heracross.

"Heracross?" Heracross said ending the Close Combat onslaught.

"Now Scizor, once more use X Scissor!" Silver screamed.

From a after image behind Heracross Scizor reappeared speeding towards the Single Horn Pokémon forming the X with its pincers moving like a red blur.

"Heracross! Megahorn!" Ethan yelled.

Heracross quickly turned around and his horn lit up white as he rushed at equal speed to Scizor with his Megahorn, the two Pokémon crossed each other both in split instances landing their attacks on each other. They both reappeared on the opposite sides of each other both damaged but still standing.

"Scizor, do not fail me!" Silver roared at his Pokémon.

"Heracross, you've got this!" Ethan encouraged.

It came as a surprise however when both Scizor and Heracross fell to their knees at the same time both falling unconscious, it was over for both. Silver simply grunted and returned Scizor to its Pokéball.

"Heracross return as well." Ethan said withdrawing his fallen Pokémon. "You were awesome, well-done boy."

"It may have ended in a tie but that's hardly anything to be proud of." Silver scolded Ethan who shook his head.

"That's the difference between you and me Silver." Ethan said as he pulled out his next Pokéball. "Ampharos, come on out!"

"Amphar!" Ampharos cried out upon being released.

"Gengar, you're up!" Silver yelled as he threw his Pokéball. Out came the ghost type who quickly appeared behind Ampharos sending shivers down the light Pokémon's spine.

"Gennngarrr..." Gengar spooked Ampharos as he licked his cheek. Ampharos instantly took two steps back as he was startled.

"It's just a ghost type, and you've beaten it before!" Ethan egged on his Ampharos. "Now start with Iron Tail!"

Ampharos leaped in the air and swung his tail with the power of steel at Gengar, making direct contact and knocking the ghost type further back.

"Gen... Gengar!" Gengar muttered as it caught itself midair.

"Sucker Punch now!" Silver commanded, Gengar listened and rushed towards Ampharos preparing a punch.

"Ampharos, dodge it!" Ethan roared, Ampharos listened and leaped back dodging the blow. Gengar's fist landed in the ground kicking up a large smoke cloud.

"Will o Wisp!" Silver yelled.

Gengar shot multiple blast of flames at Ampharos who simply dodged them all by side stepping and jumping between the flames which vanished upon ground contact.

"What!?" Silver freaked out. "Gengar, you'd better not lose this!"

"Gen... Gengar..." Gengar panted with its tongue sticking out as it used most its flames.

"Now, Fire Punch!" Ethan yelled knowing Ampharos now had the opportunity to strike.

"Amphar!" Ampharos roared as he leaped towards the Gengar with a fist engulfed in flames. Ampharos smashed Gengar across its face with the attack causing Gengar to smash into the ground.

Gengar struggled to get up as Ampharos had proven to be too powerful, as it slowly came to Ampharos leaped in the air preparing a Thunderbolt.

"Do it now!" Ethan screamed.

Ampharos listened and shot out a bolt of electricity much like a lightning bolt smashing into the Gengar zapping the ghost type into oblivion. As the electricity left it, Gengar fell back panting heavily.

"End it now, Fire Punch!" Ethan yelled.

Ampharos listened and once again charged a Fire Punch, it came down and smashed Gengar in its gut powerful enough the burst of flames enveloped the two. It was over for Gengar who fell unconscious.

Ampharos leaped back landing on his feet standing over his defeated foe. He crossed his arms and pulsed with electricity.

"That was awesome Ampharos! You're killing it!" Ethan said making Ampharos smile.

"Ugh, return Gengar. You're a failure!" Silver said with a disgusted look on his face as he withdrew his Pokémon.

"Just shut up and bring out your next Pokémon!" Ethan said locking eyes with his rival.

"Humph, fine by me, go, Magnezone!" Silver yelled as he threw his Pokéball.

Upon release Magnezone lowered from the air in which it was released and went near the ground to face off with Ampharos, the steel type also surging with electricity.

"Ampharos..." Ampharos muttered looking his enemy and sizing it up.

Electric type moves won't be very effective here since Magnezone is both an electric and steel type... Ethan fret.

"Magnezone, destroy Ampharos with Flash Cannon!" Silver bellowed, Magnezone charged with iron energy and shot a powerful beam at Ampharos.

"Amphar!" Ampharos screamed as it was shot by the blast.

The Light Pokémon fell on his back before flipping back and landing on his feet. Ampharos's body was scuffed from the attack, and he had a trickle of blood running down his lip.

"Amphar..." He grunted while wiping his lip.

"Continue your offense with Gyro Spin!" Silver ordered.

Magnezone listened and spun like a ball spinning like a top like a blur heading for Ampharos.

"That's it, Iron Tail!" Ethan yelled.

Ampharos leaped up and came down using Iron Tail on the spinning Magnezone creating a struggle between the two but ultimately sent Magnezone spinning back.

"Augh." Silver said shocked.

"Now, Fire Punch!" Ethan yelled.

Ampharos charged forth forming a fist of flames, he pounced and smashed the spinning Magnezone with the move starting an explosion which could be felt by both Ethan and Silver who both had to look away.

"Magnezone's tough but no way it's beating my Ampharos!" Ethan declared.

"Just watch." Silver said with an evil grin.

Once the smoke cleared Ethan was surprised to see Magnezone had used its Electric Terrain attack leaving Ampharos almost entirely paralyzed by the move.

"Am...pharr!" Ampharos groaned in pain.

"Woah, an electric type move actually hurting Ampharos! That must be intense!" Ethan said stunned.

"That's right. Electric Terrain is mostly a defensive move meant to keep opponents away, and Ampharos is unlucky enough to be caught in the attack." Silver smiled.

Ampharos was continuously zapped by Magnezone who started moving forward to Ampharos increasing its charge on Ampharos.

"Ampharos, I know you can do this boy, just one more Fire Punch and you win!" Ethan cheered him on.

"Don't make me laugh. Your weak Ampharos is done for!" Silver barked.

Ampharos began to cross its arms before its face for protection as it took steps towards Magnezone causing the steel type to flinch back.

"What!" Silver yelled. "I-Impossible!"

"Like I said, I know you can do this Ampharos!" Ethan cheered.

Ampharos lifted his arm and charged it with flames as he slowly took steps forward to the Magnezone.

"Err, stronger, let's go!" Silver yelled.

Magnezone surged with more electricity causing Ampharos to scream out and lose his hold on his Fire Punch. He proceeded to take two steps back as the damage was too much.

"Even if it's an electric type trying to force its way through an Electric Terrain is impossible!" Silver bellowed.

"Man, I really underestimated it." Ethan said biting his nails before getting a realization. "Come on Ampharos, overpower it with Discharge!"

The Light Pokémon finally stopped screaming and his eyes lit up with fury striking fear in Magnezone. Ampharos surged with blue electricity which easily overpowered the Electric Terrain.

"N-no!" Silver fret as the blue light engulfed Magnezone. It caused an explosion which both Ampharos and Magnezone were blown away from.

Ampharos landed on its back before Ethan and Magnezone landed on its side before Silver, both Trainers returned their Pokémon with different feelings.

"I'm really impressed Ampharos, you were super cool, now get some rest okay." Ethan said putting away Ampharos's Pokéball.

"Magnezone, again you fail me. You're a waste of space on my team!" Silver said pulling out another Pokéball.

"Lance was right by the way." Ethan randomly said getting Silver's attention.

"What... what does Lance have to do with this?" Silver asked.

"It's clear to me you still don't get it but if you continue to treat your Pokémon this way they'll never flourish. Pokémon are stronger when loved by their Trainer, your Pokémon will never reach their Pokémon with you." Ethan claimed.

"You and Lance, you both are weak! What makes a Pokémon strong is not love, but training. Harsh, grueling training!" Silver explained. "I have no time for you bleed hearts who talk nothing else but love, it is meaningless to me. Love is no more than an illusion Trainer's talk of for no more than manipulation."

"Manipulation huh, then bring out your next Pokémon and I'll show you." Ethan said denying his opponent's reasoning.

"Weavile, go!" Silver yelled throwing his Pokéball.

Weavile landed before Silver and formed a battle stance as eying down Ethan.

He evolved his Sneasel huh, Ethan thought as he readied a Pokéball.

"Hey Silver, why don't I show you my new Pokémon!" Ethan said throwing his Great Ball. "I choose you, Gyarados!"

Gyarados let out a loud screech upon being released and glared at the Weavile releasing steam from his nose.

"A Red Gyarados... how can that be?" Silver asked.

"We-Weavile..." Weavile said clearly intimidated.

"My Gyarados has beaten Weavile's before, this will be nothing!" Ethan declared. "Start with Aqua Tail!"

Gyarados slithered over and smacked the Weavile with a heavy Aqua Tail sending Weavile flying back smacking into a tree behind Silver.

"So fast!" Silver said in awe as he turned.

Weavile got off the tree and shook off the pain revealing it was fine, just about.

"Damn, use Dark Pulse!" Silver ordered.

Weavile listened and shot a beam of dark energy at Gyarados blasting Gyarados in the face causing a smoke cloud.

"Continue with Mega Punch!" Silver demanded.

Weavile's fist glowed white as it rushed towards the damaged Gyarados preparing the attack.

"Now!" Silver yelled as Weavile bashed Gyarados in his face making Gyarados fall back screeching in pain.

"Gyarados!" Ethan yelled, he smiled as Gyarados got up and shrugged off the pain.

"Wrahhhh!" Gyarados screamed out loud enough Weavile had to grab hold of some grass so it wouldn't be flung away.

"We can do that too, Weavile Screech!" Silver yelled.

Weavile pulled its mouth back and released a loud shock wave with a high frequency which blasted Gyarados causing the water type to be taken a back.

"Not good not good!" Ethan said while covering his ears. "Now we have to deal with sound itself."

Weavile slowly took more steps towards Gyarados who began slithering back trying to get away from the loud Screech but was unable to. As it moved back Gyarados heard a splash and it turned only to realize his tail had touched the water.

"Wait a minute I've got it!" Ethan said realizing something. "Gyarados, use Aqua Tail on the water!"

Gyarados listened and struck the water with his tail which caused a wave of water to splash which enveloped the battlefield, including Ethan and Silver. Weavile was crushed by the wave as it couldn't move in time.

Ethan coughed and coughed upon the wave passing and spit out what appeared to be some seaweed. "Eww, how'd that get in there!?"

"Some strategy!" Silver said as he got up with his clothes entirely dripping wet.

"I know right, while it's true sound moves faster in water that can be bypassed by the pressure and intensity of the water!" Ethan announced as he got up drenched. "Looks like Trainer's school has taught me more than just type matchups!"

"Whatever..." Silver scoffed as he looked back to the battlefield, Weavile just got up spitting out water from its mouth. Gyarados from across the battlefield was ready to continue.

"Now's your chance Gyarados, use Dragon Breath!" Ethan yelled.

Gyarados open his mouth wide and fired a powerful Dragon Breath directly at Weavile.

"Dodge it Weavile!" Silver yelled.

Weavile leaped in the air trying to dodge the ferocious Dragon Breath but it came as a surprise when Gyarados began charging another beam in its mouth but a different one.

An energy ball formed in Gyarados's mouth which appeared to be surrounded by electricity and an orange fierce aura.

"What's that?" Ethan wondered.

"T-that's Dragon Rage!" Silver freaked.

Gyarados fired the Dragon Rage which flew the air at Mach speeds before blasting into the Weavile causing a large explosion in the air which's wind reached both Ethan and Silver who had to look away.

"D-damn it!" Silver said covering his face.

Ethan looked back to see Weavile dropping from the sky completely defeated as it fell back to the earth.

"Wea...vile..." Weavile groaned before fainting.

"Great job Gyarados, you won!" Ethan said happily.

The water type turned his head to Ethan and nodded, Ethan then returned him to his Pokéball. "Gyarados return, you were great so rest up cause I'm sure I'll be using you again."

"How, how am I losing!" Silver cried as he returned his Weavile with an irritated look on his face.

"I keep telling you, we all keep telling you, but you refuse to listen." Ethan stated. "Remember Lance's words Silver and remember mine. Your Pokémon will never reach their full potential if you continue to treat them like that. And that's why you'll never be a stronger Trainer than me, even if you beat me I'll always surpass you, because in the end Pokémon are stronger when bonded with their Trainers, there friends not tools."

"Don't tell me you... actually believe the crap you're spewing!" Silver said laughing.

"It's not crap, no way it is." Ethan said shaking his head no. "Look, I don't know what happened to you in that past that made you so insecure and unable to have bonds-"

"SHUT UP! You know nothing about me!" Silver growled interrupting Ethan. "Do not act like you know me, to me all you are is a steppingstone to the champion! You are nothing more than dirt! I do not wish to see the world the same way you do, you are far too naïve!"

"Well don't you think you know me either." Ethan said. "Cause right now I'm anything but naïve, and I'll prove it to you by winning this battle!" Ethan declared as he pulled out another Pokéball.

"Fine then, go Eevee!" Silver yelled as he threw his Pokéball.

"Eevee!" Eevee barked as it was released, it instantly turned around to Silver who paid it no mind.

Who will he be using next; he must be planning on using his own Eevee? Silver contemplated.

"Alright, next will be you, go Espeon!" Ethan yelled as he threw his Pokéball.

"Espe, Espeon!" Espeon purred as she was released from her Pokéball. She landed on the battlefield and eyed down the Eevee who was shocked to see she had evolved.

"Ee-Eevee!?" It said alarmed dropping the battle stance it had entered.

"You, you actually evolved your Eevee!?" Silver said surprised.

"Yeah, turns out Eevee doesn't just need stones to evolve!" Ethan smirked. "She's a psychic type now, and I see your Eevee hasn't evolved itself!"

Espeon purred and walked and slowly began to take a walk, each step intimidating the Eevee even more.

Espeon locked eyes with Silver's Eevee and smiled, knowing she had the advantage.

"Eevee, we have to win this, do you hear me!" Silver yelled.

Eevee turned around to Silver, seeing the anger and sadness in its Trainer's eyes made Eevee grow more determined as it turned around and square off with Espeon.

"Ee, Eevee!" Eevee growled.

Espeon dropped her smile and formed a battle stance, ready to get started.

"Begin Eevee with Quick Attack!" Silver roared.

Eevee pounced off the ground moving in a zig zag as it head for Espeon.

"Espeon, dodge it!" Ethan said.

Right as Eevee was a hair's breadth away from Espeon she disappeared and reappeared behind it, shocking the evolution Pokémon.

Eevee turned around and tried once more Quick Attack but Espeon jump up with her entire body avoiding the attack.

"Good job Espeon!" Ethan encouraged.

"Err, Eevee! Use your Bite!" Silver yelled.

Eevee jumped into the air revealing its sharp fangs trying to bite Espeon but she again easily dodged it by back flipping in the air.

Eevee fell to the ground after Espeon landing on its face after failing to use the move.

"Ee...vee..." Eevee growled as it got back up.

"Shadow Ball!" Silver hollered. "We'll win with super effective damage!"

Eevee opened its mouth trying to shoot at Espeon with multiple Shadow Ball's but Espeon easily sidestepped past them all, each Shadow Ball boomed a tiny explosion as they crashed to the ground.

"Why isn't it landing!?" Silver panicked on the verge of pulling his hair out.

Eevee formed one more Shadow Ball which was easily twice the size of the previous ones and blasted it at rocket speed at Espeon.

"Espeon, Reflect!" Ethan yelled.

Espeon brang up her shield which instantly connected with the Shadow Ball. The Shadow Ball created sparks as it tried to beat the Reflect but was knocked back at Eevee who failed to dodge it.

"Eeveee!" Eevee cried as it was flung back upon being smashed. But before it could crash into the ground Eevee stopped right above the ground unable to fall.

"What!?" Silver reacted.

Espeon's gem on her face glowed a crimson red as she was revealed to have used Psychic to have caught Eevee into the air.

"Now, lift Eevee in the air and then crash it into the ground!" Ethan yelled.

"No, get out of it Eevee!" Silver freaked but to no avail. Eevee tried to struggle and struggle as it was lifted into the air but no amount of shaking would free the normal type.

"Eevee Eev!" Eevee cried out as it reversed so its head was to the ground.

"Do it now!" Ethan yelled.

"Espeeeeon!" Espeon growled as she dropped Eevee at fast speeds dropping it face first into the ground causing an eruption of smoke and other debris.

Eevee was flung back being hurled as it crashed repeatedly into the ground before landing before Silver who was devastated. The Evolution couldn't get up, it was over.

"How, how could this be..." Silver said dropping to his knees. "I've trained up my Pokémon all so intensely in the past few weeks yet all it is meaningless, what is it I am lacking!?"

"You don't get it, so I'll tell you again." Ethan said as Espeon walked by his side circling around him. "Your Pokémon are strong, but they'll never reach their potential unless you yourself change, change yourself for the better. That's the key to getting stronger."

"The... key to getting stronger?" Silver said with tears in his eyes.

Eevee began to struggle to get up from the trying and only barely managing to while breathing heavily.

"Ee...Eeveee..." It panted facing Espeon who had taken no damage. Eevee was batter and bruised, in no shape to keep battling.

"Ugh, Eevee." Silver said. "Your hurt, it's fine. You don't have to battle any longer..."

Eevee turned its face to its Trainer and noticed the tears in Silver's eyes. It instantly ran over there losing focus of the battle at hand.

"Ee, Eevee?" It said asking what's wrong.

"I said... it's alright, you can return to your Pokéball now, it's fine." Silver said. "You... you've battled fierce, like a warrior!"

Eevee smiled and put its front paws on Silver's chest as it stood up and licked Silver on the cheek which surprised the red head who had no words for what had happened.

"E-Eevee..." He said as Eevee dropped back to the ground.

Ethan smiled and nodded his head as he crossed his arms, perhaps Silver was finally learning.

"Eevee!" Eevee roared insuring Silver it could still battle.

"I... alright then Eevee, you may continue..." Silver said making Eevee smile as it turned around to face Espeon.

"Eevee!" Eevee barked happily entering the battlefield once more.

"You get it now Silver, Eevee's stronger when you praise it!" Ethan claimed. "Alright Espeon, Eevee looks stronger now, so let's not holding anything back alright!"

"Espe!" Espeon purred as she slowly walked towards Eevee to face it once again.

"Whew, alright now, Eevee use Quick Attack!" Silver yelled getting up from his knees.

Eevee listened and quickly burst towards Espeon dashing at full speed.

"It's fast but we're faster, Espeon out speed it with your own Quick Attack!" Ethan yelled.

Espeon rushed out speeding Eevee by hitting it first and easily overpowering Eevee's. Eevee was knocked back sent back first facing the ground but before it could fall it actually landed on its fours recovering instantly.

"Swift!" Ethan yelled. Espeon jumped up and swiped her tail releasing many falling stars towards Eevee.

"Dodge them all using Quick Attack!" Silver yelled.

Eevee leapt between all the stars dodging the mini explosions they bran about and used its momentum to leap into the air above Espeon.

"And now Iron Tail!" Silver exclaimed.

Eevee's tail turned white as it fell towards the Sun Pokémon.

"Dodge it, watch out!" Ethan yelled, but it was too late as Espeon was smacked in her head with the attack.

"Espe!" She screamed as she fell on her face. Using the boost from the Iron Tail Eevee was flung into the air.

"Now finish it with Shadow Ball!" Silver yelled.

Eevee began charging a Shadow Ball to which it fired off at Espeon.

"Espeon, once more we're going to Reflect it!" Ethan said. Espeon listened and brought about her shield which bounced the move back to the midair Eevee.

Bam! The Shadow Ball connected and sent Eevee flying back to Silver even more battered and beaten than the last time, it had to be over.

"Ee...Eevee..." Eevee grunted in pain laying on its back before Silver.

"It was strong, what a powerful Eevee..." Ethan complemented.

"Espe..." Espeon purred softly.

Silver turned to his fallen who struggled to get up, it kept trying to stand but kept falling back. It was enough to make Silver shed another tear.

"Eevee!" Silver screamed. "You can win! I believe in youuuu!:

"Eeveee!" Eevee roared getting up on all its fours before Silver. Its eyes glared at Espeon as it glew with a red glint before its body started to shine white.

"E-Eevee!" Silver said in awe.

"Woah, Eevee's evolving!" Ethan remarked.

Eevee grew much bigger which was revealed as the light left. It now had a sleek black body with four slender legs and crimson eyes. It had long black pointed ears and a bushy tail, each with a yellow ring around them, which also happened to be on its forehead and legs.

"Um... breon." The newly evolved Eevee growled glaring at Espeon.

Espeon flinched her head back both in awe and slightly intimidated by the Pokémon's dark design.

"Wow, so it looks like there's another form Eevee can evolve to without the use of evolutionary stones." Ethan said grabbing his Pokédex to scan it.

"Umbreon, the Moonlight Pokémon. When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores."

"So, it's called Umbreon..." Silver noted. "Umbreon, you've become quite something."

"Umbreon!" Umbreon wagged its tail happy at Silver's praise.

"Alright, you're strong too Espeon! We can win this!" Ethan exclaimed.

"Es... Espeon!" She spoke.

Umbreon turned its face up to the night sky as the full moon sparkled over it majestically, it began to glow with a white light shocking Ethan.

"W-what is that!?" Ethan wondered.

"That attack is Moonlight! Umbreon is being healed!" Silver reacted.

"Umbreon!" Umbreon barked upon replenishing itself.

"Now Quick Attack!" Silver roared. In a split second Espeon felt a chill upon her backside as she turned around to see Umbreon suddenly behind her.

"Espeee!?" She cried out swiftly turning around while trying to get some distance between her and the Umbreon.

Umbreon leapt towards Espeon continuing the Quick Attack.

"Send it back with Psychic!" Ethan yelled.

Umbreon was an inch away from Espeon as her red gem began to shine as he activated her Psychic. She was mesmerized by the Umbreon's red eyes which appeared to be staring into her soul, but she quickly shook the feeling off.

Espeon looked into Umbreon's mind trying to use Psychic but was she had nothing. She could not get a hold on Umbreon and could not understand the Pokémon at all, all Espeon could sense within Umbreon was darkness and shadows. The feeling terrified Espeon like a chill in the night and she was flung back.

"ESPEEEE!" She screamed landing flat on her face.

"Bree..." Umbreon snarled.

"Woah, Psychic had zero effect!" Ethan said in shock.

Espeon got up growling with her fur standing on end clearly terrified by what she had seen in Umbreon.

"Hmm, seems you don't have much experience fighting dark types, psychic type moves are useless against them!" Silver declared. "Now Shadow Ball!"

Umbreon charged the attack at Espeon firing with even more speed and power than before, the move blasted Espeon as she was too afraid to move a muscle.

"Espeon!" Ethan screamed as she flew back towards him, he opened his arms and caught her in midair.

"Espeon are you alright!" Ethan asked her as she faced him.

"Es...peon..." Espeon said softly, her body had damage marks and bruises and she had a cut on her cheek which was dripping blood.

Ethan gently set her to the ground and kneeled down to pet her on her scalp. "You did great Espeon, I'm so proud of you lady!"

Espeon smiled and once again jumped into Ethan's arms nuzzling her face next to his making Ethan laugh.

Umbreon ran over to Silver hanging its tongue out and Silver actually went and pet his as well.

"Umbreon you mad lad!" Silver exclaimed. "You did it, you actually did it! You won!"

"Umbreon, Umbreon!" Umbreon barked.

"Now return and get some rest alright, we'll get you looked at later alright." Ethan promised as he returned Espeon to her Pokéball.

"Two Pokémon left I believe." Silver smirked.

"Right, now go on Gyarados and continue where you left off!" Ethan yelled as he threw his Great Ball.

"Drahhhh!" The Red Gyarados shrieked upon being released staring down the Umbreon who wasn't even a third his size.

"Umbree..." Umbreon growled.

"Okay Umbreon, we'll start with Shadow Ball and fast!" Silver yelled.

Umbreon opened its mouth and blasted a Shadow Ball at Gyarados.

"Woah, dodge it!" Ethan yelled.

Gyarados quickly ducked his head down dodging the Shadow Ball just barely. The ball landed in the river causing a big splash.

"That's quick, Gyarados we'll need to speed up our selves, Dragon Dance!" Ethan roared.

Gyarados began to charge with the energy of a dragon to raise his stats but he suddenly stopped as Umbreon bit him in the neck interrupting the move.

"Graahhh!" Gyarados screamed out in pain. Gyarados shook trying to shake off Umbreon but Umbreon wouldn't budge.

"This is bad!" Ethan freaked.

Umbreon continued his hold on Gyarados as the water type continued to screech in pain, Ethan panicked but looking at the river before him gave Ethan an idea.

That's right, I can use the river as we did before! Ethan realized.

"Gyarados, fall back into the water quick!" Ethan yelled.

"W-what!?" Silver reacted.

Gyarados flipped back landing its back in the water sinking the Umbreon into the river and forcing it to release Gyarados from its Bite if it wanted to breathe.

"Umbre!" Umbreon barked as it leapt out of the water drenching wet.

"Hahaha! Now use Dragon Rage Gyarados!" Ethan yelled.

Gyarados lit its mouth up and fired a tremendous Dragon Rage at Umbreon who was still in midair, the move made direct contact causing a large explosion in the sky as the beam collided with the dark type.

"Umbreon..." Silver muttered. The Moonlight Pokémon fell on its side before Silver and was clearly on the verge of unconsciousness.

"Um...bre...on..." Umbreon grumbled in pain looking towards his Trainer.

Silver got on one knee and pulled out Umbreon's Pokéball.

"Good job, you did excellent." Silver said returning Umbreon who although was defeated was happy.

Gyarados slowly got up from the water slithering back to the battlefield in front of Ethan.

"Alright Silver, let's see that Quilava already." Ethan smiled.

"Quilava, I'm sorry but you're sadly mistaken..." Silver said with a smirk as he threw his Pokéball. Upon release Ethan realized it was no Quilava. The fire type now had a bulky yet long and agile body, from its mouth could be seen long sharp canine like teeth. On the back of its body, it had a long mane that appeared to be made of flames.

"Ty...phlosion!" It roared at Ethan and Gyarados.

"You evolved your Quilava!?" Ethan said in awe as he pulled out his Pokédex to scan it.

"Typhlosion, the Volcano Pokémon. If its rage peaks, it becomes so hot that anything that touches it will instantly go up in flames."

"Quilava evolved not too long ago, it was supposed to be revealed for when I had to face your Bayleef but clearly situations change." Silver sniggered.

"Well, type advantage isn't always everything, but my Gyarados has that going in his favor!" Ethan assured himself. "You've got this Gyarados!"

"Grawww!" Gyarados said. Ethan realized Gyarados was panting and scuffed up everywhere over his body, perhaps not in the best shape to be battling after two previous rounds.

"Typhlosion, we'll start the onslaught with Wild Charge!" Silver yelled.

Typhlosion leaped into the air being enveloped by a veil of electricity as he pounced at Gyarados.

"Hydro Pump and end it!" Ethan said.

Gyarados used a fierce Hydro Pump but Typhlosion easily dodged it as he leapt to the ground before leaping back up landing a direct Wild Charge on Gyarados in the face electrocuting the poor water type.

"Arghhhh!: Gyarados screamed in pain before falling backwards unconscious.

"Awe a one shot, Gyarados to me." Ethan said as he withdrew his defeated Pokémon. "You were awesome, just go and get a good rest for now."

Typhlosion landed back to the ground before suffering the aftereffects of the Wild Charge but ultimately shrugged it off.

"Phlosion, Typhlosion!" Typhlosion growled at Ethan as he recovered.

"Whew, this is tough." Ethan said wiping some sweat with his hand before grabbing his final Pokéball.

"Even if your Bayleef was here having six Pokémon wouldn't save you!" Silver declared. "My Typhlosion is my strongest Pokémon by far!"

"I only need five, cause my next Pokémon was one of my strongest as well!" Ethan claimed as he threw his Pokéball. "Togetic, I choose you!"

"Toge Togetic!" Togetic cried out upon being released. He instantly dashed to the battlefield facing off with the ferocious Typhlosion.

Typhlosion's eyes lit up with fury upon seeing the Togetic and its flame burned even brighter.

"W-why's it so mad!" Ethan said startled.

"Have you forgotten Ecruteak, your Togepi at the time defeated my Quilava, and he never did get over the feeling of embarrassment having lost to a baby Pokémon." Silver said.

"Oh right." Ethan remarked.

….

"Now Metronome!" Ethan yelled. Togepi wagged his finger and his mouth widened as it unleashed a Hydro Pump at Quilava, shocking Silver. Quilava, was hit point blank with the move, inflicting Super Effective Damage.

Quilava fell to the ground after the last hit, struggling to get up after the last hit, it was then when it was zapped by a huge bolt of electricity.

"S-static!?" Silver said angry.

"Heh, looks like Flaaffy's static managed to also inflict on Quilava. "Alright Togepi, Quilava's weak, make papa proud and use Tackle.

Togepi playfully ran up to the paralyzed Quilava and tackled into its gut, making Quilava fall over unconscious.

"Togepi! You won!" Ethan happily exclaimed. Togepi ran back to Ethan and jumped in his arms laughing.

"I knew you could do it!" Ethan laughed as he spun Togepi in the air.

….

Looks like Typhlosion is the petty type, drats... Ethan thought as he face palmed.

"Toge Toge..." Togetic said getting serious.

"Now's the time, Typhlosion use Flamethrower!" Silver roared.

Typhlosion listened and pulled its head back unleashing a large scary flame straight at the flying type.

"You're faster Togetic! Dodge it!" Ethan screamed.

Togetic flew high up in the air dodging the flamethrower as he was simply faster.

"Err... I'll have to wait for it to make the next move..." Silver quietly muttered to himself and just waited for Ethan to pick up where he left off.

"Waiting for us to go up in close right?" Ethan said. "Well it's not happening, Togetic, Extrasensory!"

Togetic's eyes glowed red as it sent its spiral catching the Typhlosion rendering it unable to move.

"No!" Silver yelled.

Silver's probably counting on Togetic getting in close so Typhlosion can smash him with Wild Charge, no way Togetic's surviving a move like that even once, so I'll stay away from fighting at close range... Ethan assessed.

"Get out of there!" Silver yelled, but to no avail.

"Smash him now!" Ethan yelled.

Togetic listened and hurled Typhlosion towards the ground as the fire type landed face first into it.

"Phlosion!" It snarled as it quickly recovered, the fire type entered a battle stance in which it placed its hands and legs on the ground on all its fours awaiting Silver's next command.

"Smokescreen!" Silver yelled.

Typhlosion listened and shot its smoke blinding Togetic and Ethan's vision entirely.

Typhlosion leaped in the smoke trying to find the flying type.

"Togetic! Are you alright, move before you get hit!" Ethan yelled.

Togetic flew from out the smoke trying to distance his self from Typhlosion, but it was then when the Volcano Pokémon raised its arm and caught Togetic by his leg.

"To, Togetic!?" Togetic said unable to fly as Typhlosion had clutched on to him.

"Oh no!" Ethan freaked.

The smoke cleared and Typhlosion continued its hold over the flying type's leg while Togetic continued to try to fly off but to no avail.

"Shoot, Togetic don't worry we're going to get you out of there!" Ethan announced. "Escape with Aerial Ace!"

"It won't work." Silver smiled.

Togetic charged with white energy increasing his speed as he tried to escape from Typhlosion's clutch, but it was still no use. Typhlosion's grasp easily surpassed Togetic.

"Now slam the bastard!" Silver said with a wide grin.

Typhlosion roared and he slammed Togetic by the back first into the ground shattering and kicking up some debris from below.

"Togetic!" Togetic uttered in pain after taking the detrimental blow.

"Now Typhlosion, end it with one more blow, use Wild Charge!" Silver yelled.

"Phlosion!: Typhlosion screamed as it lunged into the air.

"This is bad, you've got to dodge it Togetic!" Ethan screamed.

Togetic struggled to move as Typhlosion moved closer to it, now surrounded by electricity as it charged with the Wild Charge.

"Togeticcc!" Togetic screamed as it just barely managed to dodge the attack by flying off. As Typhlosion landed to the ground he destroyed plenty of ground below it kicking up even more debris.

Ethan covered his eyes as he could feel it from there, but then he suddenly gave a confident smile.

"Now's your chance, Encore!" Ethan yelled.

Togetic let out a loud screech as Typhlosion was blasted by the aftereffect of its previous attack, it covered its ears to try and block out the sound but it was too late.

"What happen, why is Typhlosion covering his ears, I didn't hear anything?" Silver said confused.

"Don't know it, that's Encore, let's just say although I tried to hide it I was actually relying on you using that move the whole time even if it could do Super effective damage to my Togetic." Ethan claimed.

"What!? Encore?" Silver reacted.

Typhlosion dropped its arm and faced the ground before turning his attention back to the little Togetic and snarling.

"Phlosion!" It roared.

"Encore or whatever it's called is meaningless before Typhlosion, use Smokescreen once more!" Silver screamed.

Typhlosion instead charged at Togetic once again with another Wild Charge shocking Ethan.

"What!?" The red head yelled. "Why isn't he using Smokescreen, is this the effect of Encore?"

"That's right, Encore as the name implies forced its victim to only be able to use one move for a certain length, which we can use to our advantage!" Ethan smirked. "Dodge it quickly!"

Togetic flew slightly into the air just barely dodging Typhlosion's Wild Charge.

"Foolish idea for you to trap your opponent to using the one move that can instantly take out your Pokémon if hits!" Silver said confidently.

"Foolish huh, well you know what happens when Wild Charge is used even if it doesn't land." Ethan remarked.

Typhlosion was zapped by the recoil damage and Silver finally understood Ethan's strategy.

"I see, you plan to take out my Typhlosion by the recoil!" Silver said as he realized.

"Something like that." Ethan said rubbing the back of his head.

"Well it won't work, Typhlosion has the will power to break free from the Encore surly!" Silver claimed. "Break free and use Flamethrower instead!"

Typhlosion screamed out trying its best to use Flamethrower but instead ended up charging towards Togetic once more with Wild Charge.

"I-It's no use..." Silver sighed.

Togetic again spun in a circle swiftly around Typhlosion as it passed avoiding the Wild Charge with Typhlosion having to tank the recoil damage.

"Ty... phlo... sion..." Typhlosion panted heavily landing on its feet turning to face the laughing Togetic.

"To to to!" Togetic chuckled.

"If Wild Charge is the only move we have then we'll use it to the best of our ability!" Silver yelled. "Do it now!"

Typhlosion despite being tired turned and leapt towards Togetic at tremendous speed shocking Ethan.

"Awe, it was only pretending to be tired so Togetic would underestimate it!?" Ethan realized. "No time to dodge Togetic, just use Extrasensory!"

Typhlosion was an inch away from Togetic, the sheer heat from the electricity Togetic could feel with every fiber of his being, but it was too late. Togetic had caught Typhlosion in its spiral rendering the fire type unable to move.

"Phlo, Phlosion!?" It cried out as it took the recoil damage as it was held in midair.

"Typhlosion still has more power and stamina up his sleeve, you will not win, your Togetic will eventually give out first!" Silver yelled at Ethan.

"Then we'll have to end it now, Togetic send Typhlosion to the water." Ethan said.

"W-what!?" Silver freaked.

"Togeeeticccc!" Togetic yelled as he sent the Typhlosion flying at rocket speeds towards the river.

"PHLOSIONN!" Typhlosion howled as it was emerged into the water.

"This can't be... if Typhlosion's flame goes out that would be very bad!" Silver said putting his hands over his head.

"Togetic, can you carry Typhlosion out?" Ethan asked to his Pokémon.

Togetic listened and once again using Extrasensory carefully carried Typhlosion out of the river stream. It was gasping heavily and its flame was barely visible. Togetic gently dropped Typhlosion to the ground and it was clear he had won.

"Typhosion..." Silver said holding its Pokéball as he walked over to his fallen starter.

"Phlo... sion..." Typhlosion sighed as Silver held his Pokéball before it.

"You... battled very well, you looked really cool." Silver said with a smile, surprising Typhlosion.

Typhlosion sat up a little surprised to hear praise from his Trainer, especially after losing a battle.

"Phlosion!" Typhlosion said nodding its head.

"Now return and get some rest." Silver said withdrawing Typhlosion.

"Togeticccc!" Togetic screamed as he hugged Ethan who hugged him back.

"You were awesome boy; you've gotten so powerful it's insane!" Ethan said petting Togetic's head as well.

"I admit defeat this time Ethan..." Silver said putting away Typhlosion's Pokéball. "But this isn't the end, we'll have a rematch I assure you."

"No doubt." Ethan said as he released Togetic from his hug.

"So long..." Silver said as he turned around but Ethan stopped him.

"Wait a second Silver!" Ethan yelled getting Silver's attention as he turned around.

"What is it?" Silver asked.

"It seems from our battle you've changed for the better, and that's great, that's great Silver, but..." Ethan said with his face turning to anger. "I told you, you were going to regret insulting my Bayleef!"

"Y-you're still on that!?" Silver said alarmed.

"Togetic!" Ethan said raising his arm facing his open palm towards Silver, almost as if he was going to command Togetic to attack.

"Toge...?" Togetic said wondering what Ethan meant.

"What do you think you're doing!?" Silver said as he took a step back away from his rival.

Ethan smiled and with his other hand returned Togetic to his Pokéball.

"Return Togetic, you were awesome!" Ethan said as he put away his Pokéball still locking eyes with Silver. "Anyways... it's really great you finally understand, so take care until our next battle. There's no telling who'll win if you've progressed already so much just in one battle!"

"Humph!" Silver smiled as he turned back and walked away from Ethan. While he left he began to wonder.

All this time I believed Ethan was the naïve one, maybe it was me all along... He pondered.

And that's this chapter... man was it long, but that's the battle with Silver anyways. So technically Ethan and Silver are supposed to have this battle back during Team Rocket's invasion of Goldenrod but I thought it'd be cooler if they had it here. Also I always planned on giving Silver an Umbreon so it could have a type advantage over Ethan's Espeon, I'm sure the majority of people wanted Ethan to be the one with the Umbreon though, so ugh, sorry... anyways hope yall enjoyed this, please leave reviews as I always asked, or not...
