Chapter 67: Mystery of Suicune
After arriving alongside Lance and his younger brother Lenny to Crystal's grave. Ethan decided to stay and to honor her passing.
Ethan kneeled before her grave in front of the moonlit sky, having said some passing words back with Lance and Lenny Ethan still wasn't satisfied. He reached into his backpack and pulled out all his Pokéballs.
The boy turned to Meganium. "I want us all to sit here and give a brief moment of silence, alright?"
"Megay!" Meganium quickly agreed.
"Okay you guys, come on out!" Ethan yelled throwing his Pokéballs into the sky.
Out came Ampharos, Togetic, Espeon, Heracross, and Gyarados who stayed in the back due to his size.
Ethan turned to face his five other Pokémon who looked confused as to why they were at some grave site.
"Hey guys, I know you're all probably confused as to why we're here or to who's grave this is... Some of you weren't even with me back when I went to Ecruteak for the first time, so I understand. But back there I met someone called Kris who means a lot to me, she helped me when I felt worse than I ever have before, and now we're here to honor her." Ethan explained, his Pokémon seemed to be slowly understanding the idea as he went on. "I want us all to give a brief moment of silence and then we can go, that sound good to you guys?"
"Amphar, Amphar!" Ampharos sharply nodded.
"Toge, Togetic!" Togetic was a little confused but knew to be silent since Ethan asked.
"Espeeee..." Espeon purred.
"Hera Hera!" Heracross said while saluting.
Gyarados let out steam from his nose indicating he agreed with Ethan.
"Great, thanks you guys, now let's begin." Ethan said as he turned to her grave and remained silent. He and his Pokémon must have sat there for at least three minutes. During that time Ethan couldn't help but think about how she met with him back at Ecruteak, was she alive? Did she fake her death? Was she a ghost? But Ethan tried to hide those thoughts with what he believed to be respect.
"Okay, I think that's good for now." Ethan said getting up from his knees. Meganium and the rest of his Pokémon as well got up and all approached his side. Togetic specifically spun around Ethan making him laugh and Espeon leapt to his shoulder.
"Haha, let's get on with it now, we're going to be heading back to Blackthorn." Ethan informed them.
"Amphar!" Ampharos nodded jumping up and bouncing on his tail twice.
"Heracross, Hera!" Heracross said quickly turning around to lead the way.
Meganium walked by Ethan's side as she always did but it was then when Ethan heard Gyarados let out a mean sounding growl. Ethan noticed that the Atrocious Pokémon's eyes were burning with fury facing towards the twilight.
"Grahhhhh!" He finally let out a screech which startled Ethan and the rest of his Pokémon.
"What's going on Gyarados!?" Ethan screamed as he ran by the side of his raging Pokémon.
Gyarados growled before turning to Ethan and nudging his head to back where he was looking. Ethan turned his attention to what Gyarados was looking at only for him to be filled with surprise. From the distance hanging to a dead tree was the silhouette of a shadowy figure in a shape Ethan recognized.
Meganium's eyes lit up upon seeing it, she had recognized the shape to. Although the dark made it a bit harder to see she could recognize the silky hair flowing from the Pokémon along with two white streams swaying from the silhouette's body.
"Arghhhhhhh!" Gyarados screamed even louder than last time. Ethan however remained calm and simply took a few steps forward in front of Gyarados. Espeon still remained on his shoulder, albeit intimidated as her body was shuddering.
Ampharos and Heracross tried to warn Ethan to stay back but he didn't listen as he stood in front of them and store into the night sky specifically at the mysterious shadowy figure before them.
"Show yourself!" Ethan yelled. "Show yourself, Suicune!"
Upon Ethan's words the silhouette instantly vanished faster than his eyes could process. It was only when he noticed the blue blur appear before him, he realized the immense speed the legendary Pokémon possesses.
Suicune stood still in its presence, with its white bands still swinging in the breeze. Despite its beautiful design Ethan was not mesmerized as he was more so concerned with it being there in the first place.
Suicune locked eyes with Ethan as he began to take steps closer to him. His other Pokémon tried to tell him to stop, including Espeon who nudged her head into his, but Ethan simply looked at her and winked once before turning his full attention to the legend before him.
"Hey. Everyone thinks you're dangerous, but I've seen you enough times to know you're not." Ethan said raising one of his palms as he approached Suicune.
It was then when Suicune suddenly formed a battle stance shocking Ethan's Pokémon who all formed battle stances of their own, but it was too late to do anything as Ethan already faced his front palm on Suicune's face causing the legendary to stop.
"You've followed me for quite a while, this is only the third time we're meeting." Ethan stated gently petting Ethan's face. "But I know you're not a danger to me, there's something about me that draws yourself to me, aren't I right?"
Suicune simply ignored Ethan's hand and quickly vanished once again in a blur kicking up wind causing Ethan to protect his face, Espeon struggled to remain on Ethan's shoulder but just about managed to. When Ethan looked back Suicune was gone.
"W-what just happened?" Ethan asked turning around to face his Pokémon who were equally confused.
The young Trainer's eyes however were drawn to what was past them. In front of Crystal's grave stood Suicune.
"D-do you know Kris?" Ethan asked as he slowly approached behind the Aurora Pokémon, Ethan took notice of how in its mouth was a single flower which he dropped besides Crystal's grave.
"What, what are you to her?" Ethan asked Suicune who finally turned his head to the boy. "Could she have been your Trainer?"
Suicune turned its face back to Crystal's grave before turning to the kid before it. Suicune opened its mouth and let out a stern howl before leaping into the night sky.
"Wait, where are you going!?" Ethan yelled looking into the pitch black but not being able to follow the legendries movements, Suicune had vanished for good this time.
Meganium, Ampharos, Togetic, and Gyarados all went by Ethan's side discussing what could have just happened, but Ethan paid attention to none of it. He was too busy staring into the stars still trying to find Suicune, but it was then when he heard a snap.
"What's that!?" The Trainer questioned turning his attention to the bushes where he heard the snap, and to no surprise saw a certain man he had seen two times before in hand with a camera. It was Eusine.
"My my, if it isn't you, Ethan." Eusine said focusing his attention from his camera to the Trainer and smiling. "It seems whenever I get close to Suicune, you're always one step ahead of me."
"Nope, not today." Ethan said stepping in front of his Pokémon. "Today all Suicune wanted was to honor this Trainer who lies here today."
"Who, who was she?" Eusine finally asked.
"She was a Trainer, and a damn good one at that, named Crystal." Ethan said. "I didn't know her very well, but for her to gain the respect of Suicune to this extent, she's much more honorable in Suicune's eyes than the two of us ever could be."
"Crystal, I'll remember than name..." Eusine muttered.
"And what the hell's your deal?" Ethan began to get angry at a thought. "I thought you were dead back there before Mahogany when you jumped off that cliff, you must be crazy!"
"Hmm, well I did tell you that I were to fail in my quest for Suicune I would gladly throw myself off that cliff." Eusine said getting a soft gaze from Ethan.
"I wouldn't want to be responsible for your death." Ethan said before turning back to Crystal's grave. "I don't want anyone, to do that to themselves, and that includes you too."
"A different matter for another time, that only should be a concern of yours if Suicune chooses you..." Eusine discussed.
Ethan sighed before turning his face to his rival before him. "Don't you see, we've already lost, Suicune's clearly already made his choice."
"I-I may never be able to fulfill the shoes this Crystal fulfilled for Suicune, but mark my words, I will not give up until the end." Eusine declared locking eye with Ethan.
"So what... you want a battle, like last time?" Ethan guessed making Eusine snicker.
"Not at all, I already got what I came here for." The Suicune worshiper said pulling out a photograph from his camera.
"What is it?" Ethan asked.
"I noticed you were searching for Suicune amongst the stars, well a picture can speak a million words." He answered holding the photo in between two fingers before throwing it at his rival.
Ethan caught the photograph and turned it and his eyes glistened upon seeing it. Eusine had caught Suicune on camera as the roaming Pokémon leapt between the stars gracefully from the side view.
"Eusine, this is amazing..." Ethan stated gazing starstruck at the photo. "How'd you possibly catch this?"
"I've prepared for earing Suicune's respect all my life, that was nothing." Eusine claimed before reaching his hand. "Can you give it back?"
"Here." Ethan said handing it to Eusine who gladly took it.
"Some people view Suicune as just a myth, if you wanted, you could sell that, and get hundreds of thousands." Ethan said. "But I know you, no way of that happening!"
"Hmph, do you even need to ask." Eusine said putting away the photo. "More and more is Suicune getting more direct in his approach, perhaps one of these days we will be put against each other once again for Suicune's respect."
"I don't know..." Ethan mumbled.
"So long Ethan and take care because next time I am sure we will do battle, so be well until then!" Eusine waved as he made his way past the bushes.
Ethan rubbed the back of his neck before facing the rest of his Pokémon who all had confused faces, Ethan sighed before recollecting himself.
"Alright, looks like I've got some more explaining to do..." Ethan said.
Okay, so I know this is a really short chapter but I felt as if this chapter worked best stand alone. But yeah, I'll try and have a second chapter posted by the end of the day since I also didn't upload one the past two days, since you know, to make up for all that.
