Pokémon Crimson Gold
Chapter 83: Twin battle
It was very nerve-wracking, standing in the large stadium being watched by what felt like the entire world. Right now, would be Lyra's first battle in the Indigo league. She could hear the cheers, the boos, and everything in between from the audience as she took her first steps onto the battle stage.
I have to win this; I have to win this no matter what... The girl thought as she looked across the stage to see her opponent.
Much to Lyra's surprise her opponent was one such she recognized. She had long, blond silky hair and wore a long blue gown that flowed in the wind along with a black hat with a feather on it. Lyra after realizing who it was smiled.
….
"Hey, excuse us!" Lyra said, waving her hand at the lady.
The woman turned around and saw Lyra, she waved back at her.
"Hey, what are you two kids doing here!?" She asked.
"Hi, I'm Lyra, and this is my friend Ethan." Lyra said, introducing herself.
"Hey!" Ethan said, waving his hand.
"Georgia. Long way from home, aren't you?" The woman asked.
"Well yeah, we are Trainers after all!" Lyra laughed. "A-anyways, I was wondering, would it be okay if I asked for a battle?"
"Hmm... I don't know, let's see what my Azumarill thinks, Azumarill, you up for it?" Georgia said.
"Azu, Azumarill!" Azumarill said jumping up and down.
"Well, you heard her, we can have that battle then." Georgia smiled.
….
"I remember you, Georgia!" Lyra smirked. "It'll be fun, fun defeating you again."
"And it's good to see you, Lyra, last I remember our battle record is one to one, so this match will be a tie breaker." Georgia returning Lyra's gaze.
"Alrightttttt!" The announcer cried out into the microphone. "Right now, we're having our two Trainers from Johto duking it out. On one end we have Lyra, from New Bark Town, and on the other, Georgia from Cherrygrove!"
From the audience they weren't very amused. Two Johto Trainers battling? Johto wasn't exactly known for its strength and so no one was very excited.
"Booooo!"
"Hopefully the battles quick!"
"Let's just get this over with already..."
Lyra ignored the unpleasant cries of the audience; she was far more concerned with her opponent at hand and they didn't take there eyes off each other.
"You still have that Azumarill I assume?" Georgia asked crossing her arms.
"Yup, and I trust you do as well!" Lyra replied. "What do you say we use both of them to see who's stronger?"
"You have yourself a deal!" Georgia smiled as she threw one of her Pokéballs releasing her Azumarill onto the battlefield. Her Azumarill instantly recognizing its Trainer's opponent.
"Azu, Azu!" Azumarill laughed happily with a confident gleam.
"And Georgia's starting with her Azumarill, who will contestant Lyra be using!?" The announcer cried. "We can only watch and anticipate!"
"I choose you!" Lyra exclaimed as she tossed her Pokéball. "Go, Azumarill!"
"Marill! Marill!" Azumarill cheered as she was released from her Pokéball. The two Pokémon stared each other down standing on the ring apart from each other.
"We can win this Azumarill, I know we can!" Lyra exclaimed to which her Pokémon glanced back with a simple head nod.
"How exciting, a bout between two of the same Pokémon!" The referee declared starting the battle. "And with that, may the battle begin!" The referee declared starting the battle.
"Okay, Azumarill, start with Aqua Jet!" Georgia screamed from the other side of Lyra. Her Azumarill listened leaping into the air with a veil of water surrounding it.
"Dodge to the side and anticipate it!" Lyra screamed. "And then use Ice Punch!"
"That trick again!?" Georgia winced recalling the outcome of their last battle.
….
"Now, crash into that Azumarill!" Georgia commanded. Her Azumarill once reaching Lyra's leaped out to crush her with Aqua Jet.
"Azumarill now, unleash your special move!" Lyra said confident.
"What, special move!?" Georgia reacted.
Using that move already huh, Ethan thought.
Lyra's Azumarill formed a fist which began to be empowered by frost she smashed her first into the foe's Aqua Jet which had more than enough force to send Lyra's Azumarill crashing back.
"Are you okay!?" Lyra asked to her Pokémon but Azumarill managed to get up just fine, albeit damaged.
"Azu, Azu!" Azumarill said proudly.
"Giga Impact!" Georgia yelled however to her surprise her Pokémon couldn't move which caused her to worry.
Georgia's Azumarill began to be engulfed in sheer ice, its entire body from top to down was covered like an ice cube in a freezer, only Azumarill's face wasn't frozen.
"Azu... Azumarill!" It shivered.
"Agh, that can't be Azumarill!" Georgia yelled.
….
"Giga Impact now!" Georgia screeched to which her Pokémon listened. The coat of water left her Azumarill's body and it was now surrounded by a rainbow aura with massive destruction output.
"Oh no!" Lyra freaked. She knew that even if her Azumarill could land the attack the sheer force would send her Pokémon flying back.
"Get out of there!" Lyra screamed but it was too late. Her Azumarill was smashed in the gut by the Giga Impact which drilled into her gut before launching her into the sky.
"And what a fierce impact!" The referee yelled. "It's not called Giga Impact for nothing!"
From afar sat the judges, Professor Oak on one side. Lorelai, former Elite four, and Mr. James... who wasn't too notable compared to the other two.
"What a fierce blow, that Azumarill's got some serious strength." Lorelai complemented to which Oak looked at her and nodded.
"It is, but I wouldn't count out this Lyra just yet, I heard she was a student of my good colleague Professor Elm." Oak explained.
"Pfft, who cares. There both Johto Trainers, right?" Mr. James scoffed sinking his head to the table bored out of his mind. "Hopefully this battle ends soon..."
Meanwhile back to the battle Lyra's Azumarill face planted to the ground before rolling back to her side. A stream of blood rolling from her lip before she wiped it off and formed a battle stance. That Giga Impact hurt, but it didn't hurt more than what would happen if she lost Lyra her first match in the league.
"We're winning this Azumarill, and that's a fact!" Lyra yelled giving her Pokémon some words of encouragement. Georgia smiled at that before her Azumarill landed in front of her.
"What's the matter?" Lyra asked. "What's so funny!?"
"From the moment we faced all the way back then I knew you'd be a worthy adversary." Georgia stated. "I wish we could've had our battle in a later match so I could see more of your Pokémon and it's unfortunate, cause you're going to be dropping out early."
"You're the one who's going to be dropping out!" Lyra announced confidently as she clenched her fist. "Now Azumarill, use Bounce!"
In a swift leap Lyra's Azumarill crossed the battlefield at tremendous speed. The ground beneath her cracked as she was all of a sudden in front and center of her opponent.
"A-Azu!?" Georgia's Azumarill in shock right as Azumarill landed a vicious headbutt in its belly also slamming her opponent into the sky.
"Wha-what power!?" Georgia cried out not having expected the impact of the move to rival her Giga Impact from earlier. "Wha, how did you train your Azumarill to be so physically powerful!?"
"Haha, it's my Azumarill's ability we unlocked, Huge Power is its name, all of Azumarill's physical attacks are doubled in strength!" Lyra claimed. "Guessing yours doesn't have it."
"Nice." Georgia replied. "But don't let it get to you Azumarill, we're simply going to have to battle from a distance!"
Her water type flipped in midair focusing all its attention back on its opponent. Sure it was less physically powerful than its opponent but it still could fight from afar.
"Ice Beam now!" Georgia screamed. Her Azumarill listened pulling its head back before firing a beam of frost straight for its opponent.
"Dodge!" Lyra yelled.
Azumarill listened dodging the Ice Beam which managed to freeze parts of the ground below.
Trying to break Azumarill's footing, huh... Lyra realized not wanting any part in it.
"Now, Aqua Tail!" Lyra yelled. Azumarill listened and used her tail which was engulfed in water as she slid across the ice with water flowing on all sides, almost akin to the move Rapid Spin.
"Another physical move huh, dodge once more!" Georgia commanded. Her Azumarill listened just barely managing to move to the side dodging the incoming sliding Aqua Tail.
"Hydro Pump!" Georgia screamed. Her water type listened and blasted into Lyra's giving it just the boost it needed to be launched back almost akin to flight.
"What a hard counter, how will contestant Lyra respond!?" The referee yelled into the microphone.
With the stream of water ending Georgia's Azumarill landed to the ground on its feet before charging back at its foe.
"Bounce then use Aqua Tail!" Lyra bellowed.
"Stop it in midair with Ice Beam!" Georgia ordered. The two Azumarill's remained in the air as the Bounce had put them on the same level. Facing off while locking eyes Lyra's Azumarill came dashing forward with her fist covered in frost.
Georgia's Azumarill pulled its face back with a sheer cold Ice Beam releasing from its mouth. But its face contorted with surprise as a glint of happiness was shown on its opponent. Lyra's Azumarill spun around showing off its tail which was coated in aqua. What shocked both Georgia and her water type was that Azumarill sled across the ice. She had done so earlier but the water was so much thinner now, an impressive feat.
The poor opposing Azumarill was slammed in the face with the insane attack, its power being doubled thanks to the Huge Power. Her Aqua Rabit Pokémon slammed face first into the ground engulfed in smoke.
"Azumarill!?" Georgia screamed in concern for her water type. Could it have been over? Could her rein have been over?
We won it; I know it! Lyra thought unable to hide her excitement. Finally the smoke cleared and much to her happiness, Georgia's Azumarill was down for the count not even so much as able to move.
"A-Azuuu..." Azumarill groaned before fainting.
"And there we have it, Georgia's Azumarill is down, making Contestant Lyra the winner!" The referee cheered into the microphone.
"Alllllrightttt!" Lyra screamed jumping into the air with one arm up. This is what she lived for, there was no greater pleasure to her than winning battles and she had just won her first battle of the Indigo league.
Her water type immediately jumped into her Trainer's arms with Lyra catching her instantly.
"You were wonderful out there Azumarill, thank you, thank you, thank you!" The young girl cried as she hugged her Azumarill deeply almost sinking her entirely into her chest. Azumarill the poor thing could barely wrap its arms around her Trainer.
"And thank you as well, you were also wonderful." Georgia cried as she returned her fallen Pokémon. She then glanced up facing Lyra and her Azumarill.
Lyra looked up feeling Georgia's stare. She looked up to see the fellow Johto Trainer walk up to her and smile.
"You did well, so, that makes it two to one, meaning you're the better Trainer between us." Georgia claimed.
"Haha, I wouldn't say so..." Lyra said gently dropping her Azumarill to the ground. "I mean, you did great out there too."
Georgia smiled as she pat Lyra on her head before walking off the stage. Before she left back into the waiting room she turned around taking one last glance at her opponent.
I lost in the first round of the league... she thought disappointedly. Although she congratulated Lyra on her victory she was hurt she couldn't even get a single win, despite her previous boasts.
In the crowd, many watching were unimpressed. Perhaps cause the battle was short, or perhaps because the two Trainer's were from Johto.
"That was fast, how did that Georgia Trainer even get here?"
"Now can we just move on and see some Kanto Trainers...?"
"Well, one things for sure, that Azumarill of that kid was pretty powerful!"
"Yeah right, she'll lose in the second round for sure!"
The crowd was mostly non interested in the battle, it felt like a warm up as one would expect from the first round of the league, but even so two people were cheering juxtaposed with everyone else.
"Yeah, I knew Lyra could do it!" Professor Elm exclaimed proud of his student.
"Of course, I mean she's even beaten that son of mine, there's no way she'd lose in the first round of the Pokémon league!" Eliza replied happily.
"You think he's here yet." Elm asked.
"Um, I almost forgot!?" Eliza cried returning to her panicking. Her son for whatever reason wasn't here and there was no telling if he would be battling in the next match or sometime soon at least. And with how fast these matches were going he could be forfeited if he didn't make it.
Meanwhile back at the table the three judges had no input on the fight. It didn't end on a tie nor was there any cheating involved so they couldn't at all do much other than watch.
"That Lyra kid is good, at least her Azumarill was." Lorelai commented pushing up her glasses.
"Of course, didn't I tell you two, I just knew she'd have this in the bag!" Oak cried happily as his prediction was right.
Unlike the other two Mr. James wasn't as impressed. He was just waiting for the next match silently.
Lyra made her way back to the waiting room to take another seat, there were at least fifteen other Trainer's there in the room all giving her glares as she entered. She looked around, all seemed to be Kanto Trainers who didn't take too kindly to her.
She took a step back. But as she did she bumped into someone and she turned around instantly. Right there was Silver who looked at her and shook his head.
"It's you!" She said.
"And we have a problem, or at least, Ethan does." Lyra said.
"Wha, what do you mean!?" Lyra asked.
Silver finally turned and pointed towards the screen of the tv showing off the league matches. On the screen she saw that it was now announced Ethan's match was up next. But Ethan... wasn't here.
Holy crap. First of all, it has been a long time since I last uploaded. Ten days. Jeez man that's insane considering how my old upload schedule used to look. I'm sorry about that, colleges been kind of rough but I promise this fic isn't going to die. Anyways, this Mr. James character isn't in the games of anime, but I promise it'll make more sense later, and that's basically it.
