Pokémon Crimson Gold

Chapter 87: Close of the first round

The first round of the Indigo league was nearly at its end. The second to last battle in the opening round was at hand. From the very beginning, there were thirty-two contestants, in the next rounds, that number would be divided by two each time until there were only two contestants left. Thus being the final battle, or at least the final battle until the victor had to face the Champion himself.

Silver had been waiting patiently for his battle since the start of the first battle. He had watched his friend, Ethan, or at least what arguably was the closest thing to a friend for him, do battle and succeed. He had watched the girl who easily defeated that same friend, Lyra, battle and succeed as well, and now it was his time for him to battle, and, well, succeed.

He finally walked through the big hall before taking his first steps onto the ring. The whole world watching him. For Ethan, it felt surreal, for Lyra, it felt exciting, but for Silver...

Pathetic... he thought as he watched his opponent enter from the opposite side of the ring. He was an average-looking kid looking to be around Silver's own age, he wore a striped shirt of black and gold colors and jeans along with a blue backwards hat.

"Um, good luck, and have fun." The boy said timidly to Silver, his opponent. Silver scoffed and didn't even look him in the eyes. He didn't seem to be worth his time.

"Alrightttt! And for our second to last match in the opening rounds, we have Dylan from Vermillion city, versus Silver... who specifically asked us to not disclose where he's from..." The announcer screamed into his microphone except for that last part.

Outside of the audience, standing with his back to the wall was Ethan. Well Ethan and his starter at least. Both he and Meganium stood and watched as one of his rivals was about to have his battle to decide if he would be moving on to the second round.

Well, at least one of them was watching. Meganium stood there; she made sure she paid her closest attention to the match so she could analyze how much her Trainer's once enemy had grown, but she stopped as soon as she saw the sad look on Ethan's face.

Ethan stood there with his arms crossed and she couldn't figure out why but she just knew something was wrong. After all Ethan had been in a much better move lately than he ever was before.

"Megay Megay!" She barked at Ethan who wasn't speaking until she talked.

"Meganium, I told you, I'm fine." The boy said not looking his starter in the eyes. Something to which she wouldn't accept.

"Megay Megay!" Meganium screeched even louder; And right as she did, to thr left of Ethan, in their chairs Lorelai and Mr. James both glared at Ethan.

Ethan looked towards the two and gave an uncomfortable smile before turning to his starter. "Alright, alright Meganium, I guess I owe you some answers at the very least."

The Herb Pokémon's icy glare then turned to a smile as she had gotten her way. "Megay!" She cried.

"Look Meganium, so basically... well, what had happened-" Before the boy could finish, much to his surprise from behind him both his mother and Elm were there.

"Aiee!" Ethan shouted turning around to face them. Meganium had a laugh seeing Ethan so freaked out as he usually got when people startled him. "O-oh, it's just you, mom, Professor."

"Ethan!" Eliza cried as she reached in and grabbed her son hugging him tightly. Almost so tight to the point where the boy could hardly breathe. "We were so worried! We thought you were going to be disqualified from the league!"

"Th-thanks for the c-concern ma, can you quit choking me now!?" Ethan spoke up with all the breath he could muster before his mother let go.

"Sorry, sorry." Eliza said taking a step back to stand with the Professor. Ethan turned to Elm who had a worried look on his face.

"Was everything alright Ethan?" Professor Elm finally asked. "Why were you so late, your mother's right, you really could've gotten disqualified if you were even a minute later?"

"Yeah, I was just about to ask you the same thing?" Eliza agreed.

Ethan crossed his arms and leaned back to the wall. He took a second to think before he finally came up with his answer. "Okay, just, promise me neither of you will be mad."

"Ethan... what did you do?" Eliza said slightly raising her voice.

"I ugh... may or may not have overslept." The Trainer said rubbing the back of his head. Meganium looked at him in confusion as there was obviously more to the story.

"Sleeping, really." Elm said.

"Yup, that's what happened." Ethan answered.

"Are you sure that's all that happened?" Eliza said. "I thought there'd be more to it."

"I know I know, it's stupid but, well, it's all in the past now." Ethan said. "What's best is we focus on the future now, huh."

"I guess." Eliza said. "But well, you know, where did you just go off to, we were looking for you all over after that battle of yours."

"Oh... I was hungry not to mention I had to pick up my Pokémon at the Pokémon Center, come on guys thought that was obvious." Ethan said as he began to take steps away from them. "Well, what do you say we all go and check out the ci-" Before he could finish Elm interuptted him.

"Why did you have to pick up your Pokémon?" Elm asked. "Did you get into a battle before?"

Ethan's face lit up as he realized he was getting trapped in his lie. He turned to Meganium he gave him a blank stare before turning back to his mother and Elm.

"Jeez Professor, I'm starting to think you think I'm lying to you, you know me, I'd eat dirt before I'd tell a lie." He lied. "Well, my Pokémon were just getting a little checkout after some training we did the other day."

"Oh okay." Elm said. "Sorry, guess that makes sense."

Eliza had stopped paying attention as she turned to see around the corner. "Ethan, why don't you look over there!"

"What is it?" Ethan asked as he went by his mother's side. She was staring at someone specific in the large audience sitting in the bleachers. It was the last person the young boy Ethan wanted to see. Lyra herself, she was sitting down next to a bunch of random Trainer's watching Silver's battle.

Lyra... Ethan thought before he turned behind the corner.

"So, what about her mom?" Ethan asked. "It's just Lyra."

"Megay!" Meganium agreed.

"Just, Lyra?" Eliza said confused as she turned to her son. "I'm saying why don't you go sit with her, Ethan I mean she vouched so bravely for you while everyone thought you weren't going to make it."

"And?" Ethan said.

"And... I think she may like you back, maybe as much as you like her." Eliza whispered in Ethan's ear which only managed to make the boy shudder.

"MOM!" Ethan snapped. "How many times do I have to tell you, me and Lyra are just friends and are never going to be anything more than just friends!"

"Relax sweetie, I'm just joking with you." Eliza said.

"Yeah Ethan, sounds like you've got a real chip on your shoulder." Professor Elm stated. Ethan softened his expression before deciding to apologize.

"You're right, I'm sorry, anyways, why don't we just watch the match?" The boy suggested.

"Sounds good to me." Eliza said turning to the ring.

"Yeah I guess we should." Elm said turning to the battle as well. "Um, say, what was this kid's name again?"

"Silver." Ethan answered. As he spoke those words however he instantly heard what he had said and realized something he hadn't remembered in a while. Elm did know Silver, and their relationship wasn't exactly forged on friendship and fairness.

"Shoot." Ethan whispered to his starter before turning back to the Professor.

"Hmm, Silver huh..." Elm said as he began to think. "That name sounds... familiar somehow."

Oh crap, if he recognizes Silver he could get him in big trouble... Ethan fret.

….

Ethan and Chikorita finally made it back to New Bark Town after managing to defeat Silver in his first ever victory against another trainer.

Upon entering, the two instantly took notice a police vehicle parked right in front of the Pokémon Lab.

"Uh-oh, that can't be good," Ethan sighed.

"Chika Chika!" Chikorita responded in a worrisome tone.

Ethan entered the lab seeing a police officers that were speaking with Professor Elm they turned and gave Ethan a suspicious look.

"Who are you? We're investigating the case of the missing Pokémon here..." the Police said, he was tall and intimidating looking.

"I'm Ethan, I've been a resident of New Bark Town all my life!" Ethan explained.

"He's not the culprit, sir." Professor Elm said. "I've known that boy since he was in grade school, I taught him many things, and I know he would never steal a Pokémon from me!"

"Woah, hold on. Someone stole a Pokémon from you, Professor?" Ethan said, puzzled.

"Yeah, and now we're looking for the culprit, you know anyone suspicious, kid." The police asked.

"Chika Chika!" Chikorita said, clinging to Ethan's leg, trying to say something to him.

Ethan took a minute to think, he thought he might have an idea of who it could have been.

"Professor, which Pokémon was stolen from you?" Ethan asked.

"Cyndaquil was." The Professor answered.

"I saw a kid who was peaking outside the window at the lab, and just now we did battle, he had a Cyndaquil. It had to have been him.

"Could you give me a description of this kid?" The police asked, taking out a note and paper.

"Of course, he has long red hair, wears all black, and let's see, I saw his trainer card. He goes by the name Silver, not sure if that's an alias or not, and he's fourteen apparently. That's all I got." Ethan declared.

….

I made a promise to Professor Elm I'd find Silver and take back Cyndaquil, look how that turned out... Ethan thought as he recalled the fire type was now fully evolved.

Back to the battle, Silver prepared his Pokéball in his hand. And as he did his opponent from Vermillion.

He stared at his Pokéball before looking back up to Dylan who was before him with a sly smirk. The announcer noticed this and readied his microphone.

"Alright! Now go ahead and reveal your Pokémon!" The announcer yelled into his microphone and along with it the audience's cheer.

"Go, Scyther!" Dylan yelled as he threw his Pokéball.

"Win this battle for me, Scizor!" Silver yelled at the same time as he threw his Pokéball.

Both Pokémon were released. On one side, the Mantis Pokémon. And on the other side, the Pincer Pokémon.

"Scyther!" The bug type screeched.

"Scizor!" The steel type returned in its icy robotic voice.

"W-woah!?" Dylan freaked shocked at Silver's Pokémon. "I-I've never seen that Pokémon before!?"

"Really, then I suppose this battle is already over." Silver said with his ego to the max. "Scizor is the evolved form of Scyther."

"Wow! Remarkable, the evolved form of Scyther!?" The announcer yelled. "It looks like Contestant Dylan here has his work cut out for him!"

"Now let's end this in one hit, Scizor." Silver commanded. "Use X-Scissor!"

Meanwhile as the battle was progressing, Lyra in the audience couldn't take her eyes off it. It was the first time she would be witnessing Silver, who she barely knew, battle since Ecruteak. But as she watched, from the side of her someone approached her and touched her on the shoulder.

"Mind if I take a seat here." The guy said. Lyra looked over; it was the same tall contestant from earlier she had met with before her battle with Georgia.

"Um, your name, what was it again?" Lyra asked scooting over so he could take a seat.

"Leviathan's my name, remember, anyways I just wanted to say, that was a fine battle from earlier, that Azumarill of yours is quite powerful." He remarked as he sat down beside her.

Lyra got an uneasy face and turned her head before she next spoke. "Y-you're not, hitting on me, are you?"

Leviathan looked over to the girl with a half-smile before giving a chuckle. "Very funny, of course not, I'm like, twice your age."

"O-oh right, sorry I don't know why I said that." Lyra chuckled a bit nervously. "Uh, so, what do you want from me?"

"Hmm... it's not so much as what I want from you, I want from you what I want from every Trainer, a good battle." The man answered. "From all the Trainers I've seen battle, so far you seem to be one of the more impressive."

Lyra didn't know what else to say so instead she changed the subject. "So, uh, about you, have you battled yet?"

"Not at all." Leviathan answered. "My battle I assume is next since it's the final round for the day, and I intend to win it."

"Of course, we all do." Lyra replied.

The man gave another chuckle before pulling something from the belt on him. An Ultra Ball that instantly caught Lyra's eye.

"I'm uh, guessing theirs something really strong in there." Lyra guessed.

"Ha, you would be right to assume so, awe, would you look at that." The man said taking his attention back to the battle. It wasn't very surprising but the Scizor had quickly taken out its lower evolution in a matter of seconds making Silver the winner.

"And the victor is... Silver!" The announcer screamed into his microphone. Silver walked off from the ring without so much as a lookback to his opponent who was holding his fallen Pokémon in his arms.

"S-Scyther, this can't be happening!" The kid screamed hugging his defeated bug type.

Silver began to cross where Ethan, Meganium, Elm, and Eliza were standing near the wall. Ethan tried not to make eye contact with him as he passed, and neither did Meganium who stood still staring at the battlefield. Silver however made brief eye contact at Ethan. Elm himself turned to the redhead getting a good look at him before turning back.

"What, not even a congratulations?" Silver said as he walked by. "Dick."

"That's because I was cheering for the other guy!" Ethan yelled as he turned around facing the boy. Eliza and Elm were a little confused now.

"What's the matter Ethan, who was that?" Eliza asked.

"Seems like you know him from somewhere." Elm asked.

"Uh, well I mean I do, he came on the ship with me, Meganium, and the rest." Ethan answered before turning to his starter. "Isn't that right, girl?"

"Megay Megay!" She nodded quickly.

"Whatever you say, although I wish he'd watch his mouth." Eliza said beginning to pout.

"Same here, same here..." Elm said taking one glance at Silver as he left before turning back as well.

Ethan finally sighed having held his bluff for so long before face palming. Silver's changed, hasn't he, or have I become friends with a thief...?

Once a battle ended, another battle would start immediately after. That is of course how it worked in the Indigo league. But now was the time for the final battle of the first round. On the big screen showed the very same Leviathan who was sitting and speaking with Lyra. On the other side of him, another Trainer from Kanto it seems. One named Jordan.

"Alright, may both contestants make their way over here so we can have one last battle to call it a day!" The announcer yelled into his microphone.

The audience was cheering loudly. Two Kanto Trainer's facing off, as well as it being the final battle for now.

"It's your turn-" Lyra said as she turned. But Leviathan was gone. He was already walking down the stairway with a determined glint in his eye.

Lyra got up and watched him as he made his way down. As the man in the cloak walked down he turned to her and gave her a wave as he spoke.

"I want to battle you myself, so wish me luck if you will." He simply spoke with a smirk.

The girl watched as he made his way towards the stage. Looks like I've got another rival to deal with... she thought.

As the man made his way downstairs there was an off putting feeling coming from his. At the very least the judges could feel it as his levels of confidence just by his walk alone felt unmatched up till this point.

"Ehh, who's this next guy?" Professor Oak asked turning to Lorelai next to him.

"Hmm... let's see why don't we." The redhead said as she checked her clipboard. "Name's Leviathan, right? Well, he's definitely from Kanto, Pallet town to be exact, he's nineteen years old, and get this, this is his first time ever competing in a Pokémon league." Lorelai said sounding a bit surprised.

"Well of course, this is the first ever tournament style league after all." Mr. James remarked.

"No, I mean he's never even challenged the Elite four before, whoever this kid is it's certainly weird, I'm sure he's had eight badges for years, he's been a Trainer for nine years to this point." Lorelai said putting her clipboard down. "Well, maybe now we'll get an actually interesting match."

"Yup, if he's got more than a year's worth experience then maybe he'll actually know a damn thing about Pokémon battling." Mr. James said stretching his arms as he talked.

"I don't know guys, I'm having a lot of fun watching these matches, I think there's a lot of strong Trainers that turned about." Professor Oak said with a chuckle, one which only annoyed the other two who glared at him.

"Oh you would be having fun won't you, you're not a Trainer yourself Oak, so you wouldn't get how it feels sitting here watching a bunch of matches from weaklings you could defeat in three seconds." Lorelai snapped.

"Haha, well, back in my day I was a pretty strong Trainer I'll have you know, I even challenged the Indigo league onc- before he could finish, Oak got interrupted by Mr. James.

"Not this story again Oak, look, can't we just be honest with ourselves for a second!" Mr. James screeched. "These matches are pointless; Lance talks so much about changing the Indigo league so Kanto and Johto can come together, but it's all just bullshit, he just wants to have to battle with only one Trainer rather than the multiple who challenge him and the rest of the Elite four, none of you actually believe Lance actually has a shot at losing his title here!?"

Lorelai glanced past Mr, James and shook her head while shutting her eyes. "You know, I'd keep quiet if I were you."

"Huh, what do you-" All of a sudden Mr. James closed his mouth entirely as he turned and saw who was behind him. Standing there with his hands in his pockets was the Champion himself staring down the old man.

"I'm sorry, what was that? It sounded like you were speaking about me, Sullivan?" Lance said striking fear down the man who was just back talking him.

"O-oh my, Lance." Mr. James said jumping into the air. He landed on his feet quickly kneeling down, bowing for the Champion himself. "P-p-please forgive my insolence, m-my deepest apologies!"

"Ugh, wait, his first name is Sullivan?" Lorelai said face palming. Lance had no power over Mr. James, so why was he acting like such a pushover. Hell, sweat was dripping from his face like a Horsea had splashed Water Gun over his heads and he could barely stop moving.

"Alright, you want me to forgive you." Lance said rubbing his chin. "Okay, look, I heard someone say something about the men's restroom on this floor being clogged, one of the janitor's isn't hasn't come, so I want you to take his place and fix it, m'kay?"

"A-anything, I'll be on my way then!" Mr. James... or Sullivan screamed as he ran off into the distance, but before he could he stopped and asked. "T-this won't affect your decision is making in uh, you know..."

"If you don't get a move on then no way in hell I will." Lance said and just as he finished Sullivan was already gone, ran away as fast as The Flash. The champion then turned to his fellow Elite four and took a seat beside her. "Mind if I sit here?"

"Well, I'd rather have you not, but we all know you're going to do it anyways." Lorelai said in a hissy fit tone.

"But what was that about?" Professor Oak asked turning to Lance. "What's this decision he was talking about."

"Shouldn't you already know Professor; didn't I already tell you." Lorelai told him.

"Uh... I'm in sixties I'll have you know, I'm an old man, I tend to forget things!" Professor Oak said.

"Wait, you told him, what about the secret oath as an Elite four you took?" Lance whispered to Lorelai. "Matters like this you swore not to speak of."

"First of all, I'm no longer Elite four thanks to you, and secondly, it's Professor Oak!" Lorelai argued. "I mean he's so old, he even said it himself, he's not going to remember, plus, I think he has Alzheimer's or something."

"Hey, don't disrespect him, he deserves all the honor in the world." Lance declared.

"Like how you disrespected me." Lorelai said giving Lance a glare before she turned back to watch the battle stage. Lance, the Champion shut up as well, not wanting to further the disagreement.

Leviathan took his first steps onto the ring, his opponent, Jordan, was a young adult who was about an inch taller than him. He had a long blond mullet as well as a white visor, he wore a wifebeater and blue jeans. Jordan looked his opponent in the eye and scoffed.

"Alright, this looks like it's going to be easy!" Jordan said confidently. He pulled out from his back pocket a Great Ball before locking eyes with Leviathan. "You ready to drop out from the Pokémon league, friend?"

"Heh, I was just about to ask you the same thing myself." Leviathan said returning Jordan's gaze.

"Alright!" The announcer screamed into his microphone. "For our final match of the day, we've got on my left, Contestant Jordan from Cerulean, and Contestant Leviathan from the town of Pallet, may you both bring our your Pokémon."

Jordan had a slick smirk on his face as he raised his arm into the air as he tossed his Great Ball with it dispelling a great light.

"Let's win this ya'hear!" He yelled.

From the Great Ball came a Pokémon that was both large and wide, it was a dark blue-green Pokémon with a cream-colored face, belly, and feet. Its body was composed of what seemed to be mostly fat and it was sitting on its butt rather than standing.

"Snorlax, Snor..." The big Pokémon muttered.

From afar, Ethan watched impressed, it was his first time seeing this Pokémon before.

"See that Meganium, that's a Snorlax." Ethan whispered to his starter who of course was well aware.

"Megay Megay!" She said with a nod of her head.

"Let's see what the Pokédex has to say about it..." Ethan said taking out his dex and going to the Kanto section.

"Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokémon. What sounds like its cry may actually be its snores or the rumblings of its hungry belly."

"That Snorlax looks well fed, that Leviathan guy might have some trouble." Elm commented.

"I'll say." Eliza agreed.

Back to the ring, the announcer was going ballistic about that Snorlax.

"What a powerful looking Snorlax, so big yet so strong, it seems like our friend Leviathan is going to have some trouble here!" The announcer declared.

Jordan gave a smirk to his opponent before sniggering. "So, who's your Pokémon going to be."

"Snorlax, Snorlax, Snorlax Snorlax!" The big lazy Pokémon playfully said as he rubbed the fat of his belly with his hands.

Leviathan slowly moved his arm towards his belt, approaching the same Ultra Ball that he had shown off to Lyra. Slowly grabbing it and removing it from its holster.

"Come on, let's see what you've got in there." Jordan cried.

With a confident grin on his face, Leviathan pulled his Ultra Ball in close to his face planting a kiss to it before he held it out before him.

"Don't worry, this is going to be quick." He claimed which caused his opponent to laugh.

"Quick, whatever you say buddy, just stop talking and show me your Pokémon!" Jordan snarled.

"Hmph, why of course." Leviathan agreed. There was zero hint of doubt on his face as he tossed up his Pokéball into the air after pressing on its button. The Ultra Ball opened up and began to unleash a fierce blue light which pierced everyone's eyes who was also there.

It was blinding, the light radiating from the Ultra Ball caused everyone in the audience to cover their eyes or look away. Including Ethan and the rest.

"What the heck's going on!?" The boy cried covering his eyes with his hat's visor. Meganium beside him also turned her face away as did both Eliza and Professor Elm.

Meanwhile, Lyra herself hadn't taken her eyes off the light that had came from the Ultra Ball. This isn't how normal Ultra Ball's worked like, or so at least Lyra thought. The light most found blinding she just couldn't take her eyes off it.

"W-what the hell is...?" Lyra muttered softly. From the light came a black silhouette, a shadow like figure and all she could make out from it were wings. Wings that were spread wide open along with a loud screech. And then just like that, the shadowy figure vanished along with the bright light.

The crowd was speechless. Everyone was speechless, including Leviathan's opponent Jordan who looked like he had shit himself. There was a shroud of silence surrounding the entire stadium.

"W-wha, what the hell was that!?" Jordan screeched, finally breaking the silence. For some reason the only thing in front of him other than his Snorlax was just Leviathan who was simply standing there without an ounce of doubt.

"What, what did you do!?" Jordan yelled once more directing all his anger to his smirking opponent. Leviathan simply responded pointing up with a finger.

His point towards the sky was timeless, it was almost like everyone in the audience looked up along with that index finger. Up in the sky was a golden aura surrounded by a slight crackling of lightning. Everyone seamlessly looked up stunned in the air. Yellow particles radiated from off the aura giving an appearance akin to magic.

"A-a, and it seems like, Contestant Leviathan's Pokémon, well... I don't think I've quite seen anything like this before, uh, I'm at a loss for words." The announcer said stuttering over his words.

Both Lorelai and Professor Oak looked up into the sky with all their wonder. Not one of them could see past the coat of aura the Pokémon was emitting.

"I-I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before!?" Professor Oak cried.

"I-I can't get a glimpse of it!" Lorelai complained turning to Lance. "W-what the hell is that thing!?"

Lance however remained silent with his eyed wide open. His expression hadn't changed no matter how much Lorelai and Oak called to him, he was simply glued to the battlefield.

From afar, Ethan himself was also in awe right as he turned over to Elm beside him. "Hey, you're the Pokémon Professor, so what the heck is that thing?"

"Y-yeah, that can't just be some ordinary electric type." Eliza stated.

Professor Elm was feeling some sweat drip down his face just by seeing it. He too had no words. He was completely hooked to the battle.

Ethan turned to his starter who turned to him; the boy didn't have to say anything, she simply understood his thoughts as she felt the same thing.

This is just like... that time with Ho-Oh. Ethan pondered.

The audience was completely hooked. It was unlike any battle before almost like a light show. Whoever this Leviathan guy was, they sure were in for a battle.

Jordan was now scared, his confident demeanor completely evaporated in the presence of the fierce lightning. He felt like a Magikarp in the presence of a Gyarados to be exact.

Even his Snorlax in front of him, a Pokémon species known to be relaxed as the name implies, was shaking slightly, its breathing slighted, and its eyes wide open.

Finally, from the sky the shadowy silhouette reappeared overpowering the golden aura which vanished. Its wing spread as it soared down below with a loud screech sounding akin to that of a flying type. Like the speed of light the bird-like Pokémon appeared instantaneously in front of Snorlax who was taken aback by this.

Now that was the money shot. Everyone in the audience braced themselves to take their first looks at the creature. It was a large, avian Pokémon with mostly yellow plumage. It had small, triangular eyes with black around them and a long, thin, light orange beak. Its wings and tail were a mass of spiky feathers with three black feathers covering the mass of its wings and inner tail feathers. Some of the feathers particularly were sticking out still radiating with jolts of electricity.

"A-and here we have it, our first good luck at this... Pokémon?" The announcer said with confusion. "S-surely it's a Pokémon, but uh, I can't identify it myself?"

Leviathan looked over to the announcer with his self-assured gleam. "It's not an ordinary Pokémon sir, why don't you let the Champion take the microphone and explain for the audience."

The announcer looked behind him. And surely enough it was Lance himself who gently took the microphone out of his hands as the announcer handed it to him.

"That Pokémon is one of legends, a rare Pokémon only few have heard of and even less have seen." He spoke, not once taking his eyes off the creature. "That Pokémon is known as Zapdos, and is a legend."

The audience instantly bought what Lance was selling. After all no regular Pokémon could have such a mystical appearance. The Pokémon now identified as Zapdos locked eyes with its opponent, the scared and shaking Snorlax.

"Crawwwwww!" The Electric Pokémon screeched. It sounded like knives being scratched against a chalkboard which easily juxtaposed to its more mystique appearance.

Ethan meanwhile was looking through his Pokédex frantically before Professor Elm put his hand over it setting it down gently.

"Don't worry about that Ethan, there's no way that Pokémon has a Pokédex entry, no man has ever seen this Zapdos in person, well, not since the Pokédex was made at least." Elm said.

"You know about it?" Ethan asked.

"Well, no... unfortunately, funny, I'm the Pokémon Professor and I've never even heard of it." He regretfully admitted. "Look, whatever this thing is, it's not like Ho-Oh, despite it allegedly being a legendary it doesn't seem to be much of a legend, almost like it was forgotten in time, crazy huh?"

"I just... can't even believe it. How could a Trainer competing in the Indigo league have a legendary Pokémon?" Eliza wondered. "Not even Lance does, whoever this guy is, Ethan, you've got your work in store for him."

"Heh, he may have a legendary Pokémon, but that doesn't mean he's got a win down the bag." Ethan expressed with a nervous chuckle. He turned to his starter. "Aren't I right Meganium, winning comes down to the bond and trust between Trainer and Pokémon, right girl, right?"

"M-M-Meganiuh..." Meganium whispered softly. She still couldn't believe it herself and could barely mutter her name fully.

Ethan turned his face back to the battlefield before sighing. I've seen Legendries before, both Suicune and Ho-Oh, but this is different, I might have to battle that... thing. Ethan fret biting his nails frantically.

Lyra herself stood up from the audience. Full attention on the battle, however unlike everyone else, she felt no fear. She eagerly clenched her fist excited as ever.

A Legendary Pokémon huh, sounds like he wasn't kidding when he said he had something strong in there. She thought. I'm going to have a good time bringing that thing down.

"LEVIATHAN!" "LEVIATHAN!" "LEVIATHAN!" The crowd was going crazy as they chanted his name. Not a single person in the audience cheering the other Contestant on as he stood in fear.

"And there you have it folks, you won't see battles like this anywhere other than here!" The announcer yelled. "What we have here is a Legendary Pokémon, how will Contestant Jordan respond!?"

"Hmph, that's right Jordan, how will you respond?" Leviathan reiterated staring down his opponent.

"Errrr, I'm not going to lose when I've only just made it to the Indigo league, you hear me bastard!" Jordan screamed at the top of his lungs. "Snorlax, Body Slam now!"

"Snor... LAX!" The Sleeping Pokémon shrieked with a warrior's cry as it leaped into the air with its belly extended. It was up in the air above Zapdos aiming for a direct hit.

"Zapdos, don't let it hit you, dodge!" Leviathan called out to his Legendary who listened of course. The flying type soared into air in a flash dodging the attack as Snorlax crashed into the ground, surprised as to Zapdos' speed.

"S-Snor!?" Snorlax cried looking up into the sky. Above it was its enemy sparkling with electricity.

"Scyawwwww!" Zapdos screeched with its beak spreading like a fold opening. Its bellow was alone able to distill fear back into the poor normal type.

"Now, use Thunder!" Leviathan ordered. It was spectacular. The shining Zapdos in the sky began to light up with yellow electricity which engulfed the very clouds themself.

"This, this can't be happening!?" Jordan said in awe before regaining his previous attitude. "Fine then, Snorlax takes special attacks like a tank, go ahead, if we can't dodge it then we'll just absorb it!"

"Oh really." Leviathan replied.

"Yes, now prepare yourself Snorlax!" Jordan screamed at the top of his lungs to his Pokémon. To which the big guy listened puffing up its chest getting ready for the attack.

Finally, a big strike of lightning followed by thunder itself. The blast erupted on the battlefield like an actual bolt from the skies. An explosion engulfed the battlefield blocking anyone from seeing what had happened. Jordan himself was so stunned he fell off the ring in shock.

"N-no!" He groaned. "Sn-Snorlax, you have to be alright, please be alright!"

There was nothing again but a dead silence as the smoke cleared from the battlefield, no one spoke a word, the chanting of Leviathan's name had ceased entirely, everyone was quiet.

Ethan, Elm, Eliza, even Lyra, no one said a thing or even thought. They simply just watched the battle.

The smoke had fully cleared. Instantly Jordan ran over to his Pokémon's side. It was of no surprise to him that his Snorlax was defeated after a big attack like that, no way it could've absorbed that. He ran to his Pokémon and hugged it in his arms.

"I-I'm sorry boy, I-I'm sorry..." Jordan said before finally returning his Pokémon to its Great Ball all before looking up to his opponent. "Y-you're the stronger Trainer, I have no regrets."

As he said those words the man turned his back on Leviathan and ran off in defeat. A sad sight, defeated in one attack... what an embarrassment.

The Legendary Zapdos turned to face his master and so Leviathan who returned it its' Ultra Ball. "Good battle Zapdos, good battle."

Leviathan smirked as he put his ball on his belt holster before looking up. Standing behind him off the ring was the Champion as he glared at him watching him intently, but he didn't care himself, he was looking into the audience, locking eyes with Lyra who returned his stare.

All the meanwhile, Ethan had no words, still, it was all before someone came and tapped him on his shoulder getting his attention.

"Oh, it's you, did you see that?" Ethan turned and asked. It was Kenneth, who looked just as shocked as him.

"Yup... it's too bad, looks like neither of us has a shot at winning this thing." Kenneth muttered with fear on his face. "Looks like we just witnessed the rise of the next Champion of the Indigo league..."

And there we have it, that's it for the first round of the league, four more to go, so yeah, Zapdos, pretty scary right? Anyways, I don't got much else to say other than new chapter soon.
