Catra told Bow and Adora her version of the breakup story which involved a lot of personal discussions and surprisingly no mention of Adora. Adora sat quietly and listened, grateful that Catra wanted to share with her at all and hoping, that if the time came, Catra would tell her the full truth. The three were sitting on the floor with a blanket wrapped around their shoulders. They were all leaning against the couch and had their legs on top of each other's like a human pretzel. When Catra finished her story, the three sat in silence, with Catra nuzzled between the two and sniffling quietly. Bow seemed to finally take a breath when Catra told them Scorpia was staying in the band.

Adora couldn't remember the last time the three of them had spent time together let alone like this. Despite the nature of today's events, Adora found herself happy to be with the others and wrapped her arms around them under the blanket. Catra allowed it and leaned back into her, resting her head on Adora's arm. She blushed and hoped that they would assume it was because Catra was a human furnace. Which she was. Bow looked like he was about to cry and was staring at the two of them.

"What?" Adora and Catra said together. Catra peered back to Adora, who gave her a small smirk.

"I'm just so happy you two are getting along," Bow said, his tone just a little too excited. Catra groaned and shuffled slightly away from her, leaving their legs in the current tangle.

"Great, you ruined it," Catra said, giving him a snarky smile. Bow seemed unphased. "So… were you two doing something before I showed up?" Catra furrowed her brows, looking between them. Bow looked to Adora.

"I actually slept here last night," Adora admitted, although she assumed Catra could guess that from her outfit. "Rough night, ya know?"

Catra chuckled. "Yeah, I know," She agreed.

"I think something is wrong with us," Adora said.

"Oh, for sure," Catra agreed. The three giggled.

They found there was an easiness to this group that they had forgotten about. Once they started talking, the floodgates opened, and they tried their best to catch each other up on their current lives. This mostly consisted of Catra making fun of Bow and Glimmer and Bow batting his eyes at the thought of his tiny girlfriend. Adora stayed quiet, allowing Bow his time to share with his friends. Despite their open discussions, Adora wondered if New York would be a sensitive subject for them and decided another time would be better.

Hours flew by and Catra had had enough of sharing time. Instead, she made them move on to her coping mechanism, music. Adora laid on the floor humming while Bow quietly tapped out a beat on his drum set. Both were watching Catra furiously writing across a piece of paper with a look of complete concentration. Adora had forgotten what it was like to be in Catra's presence while she wrote and imagined it was similar to how she looked when she delved into her art. When she worked, it gave her a sense of calm like all of her emotions could be poured out on paper. Watching Catra now, she could feel that same energy coming off of her.

Catra peered up from her work and caught Adora's eye. They both turned away quickly.

"I need more time," Catra announced finally, crumpling up the paper. Bow gasped and ran to grab the paper away from her.

"That's fine, but don't throw it away!" He yelled, trying to uncrumple it. Catra groaned.

"I should be in lyrical heaven right now."

"We'll try again tomorrow," Bow said but Catra ignored him, looking put out. "Do you two remember when we used to play together? Before the Fright Zone?"

Catra groaned even louder and Adora shook her head, both of them seeing what Bow was getting at. "I don't have my guitar," Catra argued.

"I have one," Bow said, smiling.

"I don't sing anymore," Adora added, and Catra nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, Adora sucks at singing." Adora hit Catra in the arm, who hissed at her.

"Well, that's just an excuse." Bow ignored their antics, looking back and forth between them until Catra reluctantly agreed and told him to go get his equipment. Bow pumped his fist in the air and howled loudly, which made the other two shake their heads in embarrassment.

"What do we play?" Adora asked nervously, watching Bow return with a guitar and music in hand.

"Jamie's Cryin' by Van Halen?" Catra read the music Bow was handing her while he passed Adora the lyrics.

Adora suddenly felt very hot and started fanning herself as she looked over the lyrics. "Oh jeez," She breathed. The other two looked up at her. She could feel her heart starting to race and sweat beading at her forehead. "Don't judge me when I'm awful."

Catra gave her a sly smile. "We'll see."

Adora shook her head, getting no help from the others. She took a few deep breaths and Bow played the song a few times through for them to listen to. It turned out both Catra and Bow knew this song well enough to only need a few minutes with the music. Adora, thankfully, had listened to them play it enough over the years to keep up.

No one really knew that Adora could sing since her fear of public crowds and stages had always kept her off to the sides, but the truth was, she wasn't half bad. Maybe not as good as Scorpia, Adora thought, But not as awful as I thought. She was proud of herself. Catra and Bow must have agreed because not a single insult escaped Catra's lips until they had finished their final time through and Catra told her to stop being so perfect and that it was annoying. Adora wiggled her eyebrows, feeling herself relaxing into the song.

When someone knocked at the door, it made them all jump and Adora finally checked her phone to realize it was much later than she thought. Angella had called her twice. Bow let Glimmer in, who was surprised to find Catra and Adora both still in their sweatsuits lying on Bow's living room rug with sheet music spread out across the floor. She gave Catra a cautious smile but walked right over to Adora and gave her a hug and a hello. Adora tried to ignore the face of annoyance Catra was giving them.

"Well, that's my cue," Catra said, getting up quickly and gathering her things together. Adora nodded and agreed. "I'll walk out with you." Catra looked like she wanted to disagree but had no reason to so she shrugged instead. Glimmer repeatedly told them they could stay, but Adora said another day. She hugged Bow in tight before they left, thanking him for everything. He brushed it off like it was nothing.

"Anytime," He winked at her. Adora had no words for the thanks she owed him. Catra waited for her at the door and they walked out together, Adora realizing she had no way home.

"Get in," Catra said, not bothering to ask if Adora needed a ride. Adora obliged and slid into the death trap that was Catra's car. It was from the 90's and still somehow running, although only if you really wanted it too. It chugged and gurgled while Catra fiddled with the key. "Come on you dumb shit," Catra mumbled, "There we go!" The car roared to life, sounding more like an oncoming train then a sedan. Adora held on and tried not to step all over the trash littering the bottom of the car as Catra took off.

"Can you relax?" Catra asked, giving Adora a judgmental look watching her hold on for dear life.

"I'm calm," Adora replied, neither letting go nor pretending to let go in any way. Catra rolled her eyes.

"Angella's house?"

"Yup."

"That's fun," Catra commented. Adora gave her a look that said otherwise.

"Glimmer and I are going to look for some apartments I think."

"Oh," Catra said, nodding her head with tightly pressed lips. "I didn't realize how close you were with the human highlighter." Adora laughed. Catra didn't.

"Come hangout with us sometime," Adora offered, watching Catra respond with a face of disgust. "I think you'll like her."

"I think I'd rather throw myself off a cliff."

"Give her a chance! She's feistier than she seems," Adora raised her eyebrows to Catra. Catra groaned.

"Maybe. I'll think about it."

Adora tried to keep her cool but still gave her a winner's smile, watching Catra's fingers clench around the steering wheel in return. It was a quick drive and they found themselves parked in front of Angella's house after a few minutes.

"Well, I'll see ya when I see ya," Catra said, keeping her eyes out the window.

"Okay," Adora replied, "Thanks for the ride."

"Yup."

"…Catra?" Adora asked. Catra didn't respond, avoiding her gaze. "I'm so sorry." It was all she could think of to say after everything that happened. Even if Catra let it go, Adora couldn't help but feel responsible in some way.

Catra chewed on her cheek, still facing away from Adora but nodded. Adora waited a moment and Catra finally looked at her. Her face seemed twisted, like she had hardened over again over her emotions. It was something Adora had seen before, although not for years. "Oh Adora. Don't worry about it. Some people have bad days, I've had a bad life. If I want something, it's taken from me," She said bitterly, a cruel smile plastered to her face, "So don't be sorry. It would have happened anyways. Life moves on and so will I."

Adora held her breath, feeling her heart break for her friend. Catra gestured to the door, telling Adora it was time to go. Adora stepped out, feeling like she couldn't speak, and almost closed the door before hesitating. "I'm not going anywhere. You know that right? You're not losing me."

Catra looked defeatedly at Adora and shook her head. "Right." And with that, Catra reached over and shut the door before taking off down the road. Adora watched, feeling numb. She made her way inside, feeling suddenly very alone and wanting to sleep for a very long time.

"Where have you been?!" Angella yelled from the living room. Adora kept walking.

"Adora, you look terrible.." Angella stepped out into Adora's path and her eyes bulged. Adora pushed past her.

"Adora? Hello?"

Adora reached her room and looked back at her mom. Angella had her hands on her hips, looking displeased. "I just need some time alone please," Adora said. She didn't wait to hear her response before she closed her door and crawled under her covers.
