Lena and Remus said goodbye to each other privately before getting off the train. While they liked each other a great deal, they didn't want to flaunt their relationship or make anyone, specifically Peter, uncomfortable.
Lena rose to the tips of her toes and kissed Remus. Remus kissed her back and played with the ends of her hair with one hand and placed his other hand on her back.
Lena pulled away and looked up at him. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Until tomorrow," Remus replied, resting his chin on the top of Lena's head as the pair wrapped their arms around each other.
"Peter! Muffin!" Mark cried and pulled his children into a hug.
"Dad," Lena said, embarrassed.
Lisa kissed the top of her kids' heads hugs and hugged them, murmuring how much she had missed them.
"Mum, Dad, this is Guinevere Rowle," Lena introduced.
Gwen smiled. "You can call me Gwen. It's very nice to meet you both. And thank you for letting me stay with you for the holiday."
"Oh course, dear. We're happy to have you," Lisa said.
"Alright, let's go to the car."
Mark grabbed Lena and Gwen's cases while Peter carried his own.
"Ya know," Gwen began, "this will be the first time I've ever been in a car."
Peter laughed. "You sound just like Sirius. He freaked out the first time we took him in a car."
Gwen grinned. "Excellent. Another thing I can tease him about."
Lena laughed as they all clambered into the car.
"So did anything interesting happen at school for you three?" Lisa asked as they pulled out of the car park.
"Not really," Lena shrugged.
"Are you kidding me?" Peter said, looking at his sister.
"Uh, no," Lena said hesitantly, giving her brother an odd look.
"You started dating my best mate!" Peter cried.
Mark hit the brakes and whipped his head to look at his daughter. His teal colored hair went to its greying brown color. Lisa turned around in excitement. Gwen bit her lip to hide her smile and looked down at her feet.
"Why didn't you say anything, sweetie?" Lisa said with a smile.
Lena's cheeks turned red. "Well, we just started dating and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it."
"Which one, Lena?" Mark asked, his eyes wide.
"Which one what?" Lena asked, her voice a bit higher than usual.
"Which one of Peter's mates are you dating?" Mark clarified.
"Well, it's Remus obviously," Lisa said.
"How did ya know that?" Mark, Peter, Lena said at the same exact time.
"It was rather obvious, dear. You always asked and talked about Remus much more than you did about Petey's other mates. And you always blush when he comes up."
"Oh my God," Lena moaned, burying her head into Gwen's shoulder, who let out a small laugh.
"Is he nice?" Mark asked, moving one hand wildly with the other on the steering wheel.
"Of course he's nice, Dad!" Peter said. "You've known him for about six years now."
"Isn't he also your favorite of all Peter's school mates?" Lisa added.
"That was before he started dating Lena," Mark said.
"Are you going to be weird about this tomorrow?" Lena asked, wincing. "Like, are you gonna ask him questions?"
"Absolutely!" Mark said firmly.
"Mum!" Lena cried.
"Don't worry, sweetie," Lisa said. "I'll make sure your father doesn't act insane."
Lena and Peter let out a sigh of relief.
"So Gwen," Lisa asked, "How do you feel about Indian for dinner?"
Sunday, 3 April 1977
Remus was trying to keep his bad mood at bay to not dampen James' birthday party, but he couldn't help it with the full moon coming up the next day. To add to his naturally agitated state before the full moon, there were so many people at the party and everything was so loud. Remus was also concerned that his parents were going to embarrass him in front of Lena and that Lena's parents would dislike him.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Potter," Remus said as pleasantly as he could to James' parents, Fleamont and Euphemia Potter. "How are you?"
"We're great," Mrs. Potter replied with a smile. "Thank you for asking."
"And we've told you to call us Monty and Effie," Mr. Potter said jovially. "And how are you all?"
"We're great," Lyall said happily.
"Did you hear that Remus has got a girlfriend, Lena Pettigrew?" Hope added.
"Mum," Remus growled quietly. "I don't even know if she considers herself as my girlfriend yet."
Hope dismissed him with the wave of a hand. His parents were ecstatic when he had told them that he started dating Lena. They had found her utterly charming and liked how Remus was so happy whenever he talked or thought about her. Both of them were beyond thrilled that Remus was living life like a normal teenager without lycanthropy.
"We did!" Effie said. "James and Sirius told us all about it! They're pleased about it!"
"Speaking of James, where is the birthday boy?" Lyall asked.
"Oh, he's over by the food table," Monty supplied.
Remus politely excused himself and walked over to James and Sirius.
"Moony! You're here!" James said.
"Yep," Remus said. "Nice party by the way."
James blushed. "It's so embarrassing. I can't believe my parents did this."
Sirius shook his head with a smile. "It's because they love you. You're their miracle child."
"Jesus, James, your place is huge! I've never been to a house so big!" Dorcas cried.
"It's pretty big for just four people," James said before looking around. "Oh, look! There's Lily! I'll be back!"
James excitedly put down his glass and dashed off to his parents to greet Lily.
Dorcas smiled. "He's never gonna stop trying, is he?"
Sirius laughed into his glass. "No, he is not."
"So where's everyone else?" Remus asked.
"Marlene and Mary are coming with the rest of the McKinnons soon. And Alice and Frank are over there with their families," Dorcas pointed.
Remus looked to where Dorcas pointed. The Fortescue and Longbottoms were standing together. Algernon Longbottom, more commonly known as Algie, was holding his young daughter Dorothea and his wife Enid was chatting to Frank. Ernest, Frank's father and Algie's brother, was happily talking to Alice's parents, Florence and Emmanuel Fortesque. Frank's mother Augusta and Alice were talking animatedly to each other.
"And Peter, Lena, and their parents are coming soon," Sirius said. "Can you believe they're bringing Guinevere Rowle?"
Dorcas looked at him cheekily. "You know, people are going to start thinking you're in love with her if you keep talking about her."
Quite maturely, Sirius stuck his tongue out.
"Hey, Peter," Mary smiled as Peter joined.
"Hey, Mare," he smiled. "Long time no see."
"Where's the rest of the family?" Marlene asked.
"My parents are talking to the Weasleys and I think Gwen and L—"
"Rowle let's you call her Gwen!" Sirius said in disbelief.
"Yeah, I mean she is staying with us over break," Peter shrugged.
"Un-fucking-believeable," Sirius said shaking his head.
"As I was saying," Peter continued, "Gwen and Lena are—."
"Here," Gwen finished as she and Lena appeared beside him.
Gwen was wearing a red dress and had a teasing smile on her face, as if she knew Sirius was annoyed with her. Lena was wearing a pale pink dress with flowers and vines on it. As always, Remus thought she looked beautiful.
"Guinevere," Sirius said, crossing his arms.
"Sirius," Gwen replied with a smirk. "Always a pleasure."
"Hello," Lena said quietly as Remus walked over to stand next to her.
"Hello to you too," Remus said and bent down to kiss her cheek. He felt Lena's face smile as she did. He couldn't help but to smile too as she gently took his hand and laced their fingers together.
"As cute as the two of you are together," Lily said, causing Remus and Lena to blush, "you may want to stop holding hands."
"Yeah, Mr. Pettigrew is staring daggers at you, Rem," Frank laughed.
"Oh, shit," Remus muttered. He and Lena kept holding hands though.
"You should have seen him yesterday," Gwen laughed.
"He was losing his shit," Peter grinned and Lena shook his head.
Alice sucked in her cheeks. "Not to alarm you or anything, but he's heading over."
Remus' eyes widened and he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and found himself looking at Lena and Peter's father.
"Oh, look, it's Fabian and Gideon Prewett," Dorcas said, excusing herself. "We should go say hello."
She left and Mary and Marlene went with her. It seemed like the rest of the friends followed their lead as Alice claimed that her parents were calling her and Frank over, Lily said she needed to go to the bathroom and took Gwen with her, and James and Sirius said they had to greet more guests.
"Hi, Mr. Pettigrew," Remus greeted. "How are you?"
Mark stared at him blankly. "Fine. I hear you're dating my daughter."
Lena glared at him while Peter frantically motioned for Lisa to come over.
"Um, we are dating each other," Remus said, gripping Lena's hand slightly tighter than earlier. She held his hand more tightly too.
"Is that why you started tutoring my daughter? So you could date my daughter?" Mark asked accusingly.
"Oh, leave Remus alone, Mark. He's a nice boy. That's why he started tutoring Lena," Lisa said as she stood next to her husband, causing Lena to let out a sigh of relief. "How are you, Remus?"
"I'm good, Mrs. Pettigrew. How are you?" Remus said, trying to be as charming as possible.
"Wonderful, Remus. Thank you for asking," Lisa said. "If you're free over break, we'd love to have you over for dinner."
Peter let out a snort and Lena and Lisa glared as Mark muttered, "No, we would not."
Normally, Remus would get angry right about now, but he didn't. He never got angry with Lena by his side.
"I'd really like that, Mrs. Pettigrew. I—"
Remus internally groaned as his parents came over and joined the conversation.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Lupin," Lena said smiling. "How are you doing?"
"We're great, Lena. You look lovely by the way," Hope said and pulled Lena in for a hug as Lyall said hello to Mark and Lisa.
"Oh, thank you," Lena said. "So do you."
"Remus tells us the two of you are dating," Lyall said happily.
Lena nodded, smiling and blushing. "We are."
"That's great!" Hope said, "Lyall and I were wondering when Remus was going to do something about his cru—"
"Mum!" Remus cried, embarrassed.
Lisa laughed. "No need to be embarrassed. It couldn't have been as bad as Lena's crush on you."
"Mum!"
"I'm sorry about my dad," Lena said, still embarrassed from earlier. Her arms wrapped around Remus' neck as they danced.
"It's alright," Remus said. "I thought your dad liked me though."
Lena let out a small laugh. "He did, right until yesterday when he found out we were dating."
Remus laughed and pulled Lena a bit closer to him.
Lena raised her hand and brushed the hair on Remus' forehead with her fingertips. "How are you feeling about tomorrow?" she said, concerned for his well being.
"Perfect, I'm with you right now," Remus smiled down at her and lowered his head to kiss her, meaning every word.
Did anyone catch the Importance of Being Earnest references? Or the Taylor Swift ones? Here's a link to see what I imagine Lena's dress to look like if you want to know, just go to my Wattpad account on world_of_fandoms and go to Chapter 39 of the same story.
