Casefile #5: Old Friends

A young boy was nervously walking down Sparkopolis. He had short but unkempt brown hair, heavy eyebags, and untidy clothes. Throughout the walk, he was seemingly vigilant, checking his surroundings every now and then, while covering his right wrist with his left hand.

'It's really come to this, huh?' The boy thought to himself. 'I'm walking to this shady private investigator's office only because of a few flyers.. Am I THAT desperate?'

The boy sighed. 'I've tried everything else but my nightmares just aren't going away..' He thought. 'I guess I don't really have any other choice other than thinking it might be supernatural..' He thought as he let go of his wrist to reveal a Model-U Yo-Kai watch. After a little while he reached the address that was written on the flyers, he stood in front of the small building and let out a sigh. 'Let's hope you're not some kinda scam..' he thought to himself.

-hard cut-

Nate sat on the small couch in the office re-arranging the medals in his medallium on the table.

Katie:"Geez.. How many of those things do you have?"

She said, standing behind the couch.

Nate:"Way too many.. I don't think I can keep track of all of them anymore.."

Whisper:"See, this is why you need to put your medals in order, how many times have I told you, Nathan?"

Hailey was sitting on the other couch with her legs crossed, playing on her phone.

Hailey:"Man.. It's really hot today, huh? I wish we had a case right now.."

She said before letting out a long sigh.

Nate:"Hey Hailey, I think I'm running outta space in my medallium, do you have a spare one I could use?"

Hailey:"Uhm.. Yeah I think so.."

She said while getting up from the couch and setting her phone on the table.

Hailey:"I think It's in the other office, I'll go get it."

Nate:"Whew.. Thanks."

When she walked through the warp door, she wasn't expecting to be greeted with a boy sitting on the couch fidgeting his hands nervously while looking out the window.

Hailey:"Uh… Hi?"

?:"Oh, uhm.. Hey, I.. Didn't know you were back there.."

Hailey:"How long have you been here? I-I'm so sorry, I didn't know-"

?:"To be honest...I-I just got here actually."

'I lied, I've been waiting here for 20 minutes' The boy thought to himself.

Hailey:"C-can I get you anything? Maybe a glass of water?"

?:"Uh.. It's okay.."

Hailey:"So.. What brings you here?"

?:"Wait.. Are you.. Hailey-Ann Thomas? I saw your flyers for this place.."

Hailey:"Well, that's me!"

She chuckled.

?:"Huh, well… I wasn't expecting someone, y'know… my age?"

Hailey:"Yeah. I get that a lot.. So, what do you need help with, uh.."

Hailey pointed her finger at the boy, signaling him to say his name.

Yuto:"Oh, uh, It's Yuto.."

Hailey:"Yuto!"

The boy looked around for a bit, seemingly confused.

Yuto:"Do you.. Do you run this all by yourself?"

Hailey:"Oh no.. I have a few friends, they're actually waiting in the back… C'mon! I'll take you to them."

Yuto:"Great.."

Both of them walked over to the purple door at the back of the room. Hailey opened it to reveal a bright purple vortex. Yuto took a step back in confusion.

Yuto:"Wh-What is that?!"

Hailey:"Oh, It's okay, it's.. Just a portal to the Yo-Kai world."

Yuto:"A-a portal? Are you sure that thing's safe?"

Hailey:"Just.. Take a deep breath and walk right through, you'll be there before you know it! You'll be fine.."

Yuto:"Right.."

Yuto gulped, leaned in, and walked into the door with his eyes closed.

Hailey:"See? That wasn't so bad, right?"

The boy opened his eyes to find himself in a different office, with a small array of Yo-Kai and 2 other people.

Hailey:"Hey, guys! This is Yuto, he's our newest client."

Yuto cleared his throat.

Yuto:"It's uh.. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Hailey:"So, that over there's Nate and Katie."

Nate:"Uh, Hi.."

Katie:"Hey."

Yuto:"Hi, have we… met?"

Yuto said facing Nate.

Yuto:"Y-you look kinda familiar but I just.. Can't place my finger on it.."

Nate:"Huh…Weird. I don't think we have.."

'Now that I think about it, he does look familiar.. I must've seen him before somewhere…' Nate thought to himself.

Hailey:"And these are USApyon, Whisper, Jibanyan, Whapir, and that's Blizzie over there, they're the Yo-Kai that work here.. Uh, don't worry, they're not gonna hurt you."

USApyon:"Howdy!"

Blizzie:"Yo."

Whisper:"Pleasure to meet you."

Nate:"Uh.. You can go ahead and sit down here, tell us what you need help with."

Yuto:"So… I guess you guys really are a Yo-Kai detective agency.. Well, I'm glad this wasn't some kind of scam.."

Hailey:"Yuto, do I look like the kinda person who'd do that?"

Yuto:"Well, I mean-"

Katie:"Yuto.. Are you not… at all scared or confused by this?"

Yuto:"Well, to be honest, this is my first time in the Yo-Kai world but.. I'm not particularly a complete stranger to Yo-Kai."

He said as he pulled down his sleeve to reveal a Model U watch.

USApyon:"Hey.. That's a Model U, Isn't it?"

Katie:"It's pretty dusty, don'tcha think?…"

Yuto:"Well, I don't… really use it often, I keep it in a drawer next to my bed."

Yuto chuckled awkwardly to try to divert the subject.

Hailey:"So!"

Hailey sat down and rested her head on her hands.

Hailey:"What brings you here, Yuto? I mean, no offense, but you don't look so good..."

Yuto:"Well.."

Yuto sighed.

Yuto:"I've been having nightmares for a while now… It had the same theme over and over again… I thought It was something in my subconscious I didn't notice so I just ignored it. but It kept getting worse and worse.

Hailey:"Go on.."

Yuto:"Everything started to blur together, I was beginning to see things and… To be honest, at this point, I couldn't tell If I was dreaming or not…"

Yuto looked down and hung his head.

Yuto:"I've never had any history with mental illnesses so I… couldn't help but think that it might be supernatural.. That's why I'm here.."

Hailey:"I see.. What kinda nightmares?"

Yuto:"It's kinda hard to explain really, I was just hoping you guys had some kinda quick solution type deal?"

Nate:"It doesn't really work like that but…. I do know someone who knows their stuff about dreams…"

Nate said as he rolled a medal across his fingers and tossed it.

Charming Tribe: Baku!

Baku:"Ah, you need me for something? It's been a while.."

Nate:"Yeah.. Yuto's been having repetitive nightmares for a really long time.."

Baku:"Well.. You can't expect me to just gobble all of them up.. Nightmares, they're quite difficult to digest.."

Nate:"No, I was hoping you might know how to get rid of them.."

Baku:"Is that so? Well, in cases like these, the cause tends to be a possession of some sort.."

Whisper:"Well, that is true, a lot of Yo-Kai have the ability to mess with your head, dreams especially…"

Whisper said, reading aloud from his Yo-Kai pad.

Yuto:"P-Possession?"

Baku:"Yes.. Most likely by a dream eater such as myself, you see there are some of them that prey on fear, despair, and misery.. That's why nightmares are the perfect snack.. It becomes a manifestation of your worst fear."

Katie:"Well.. How do we stop them?"

Baku:"If you want to remove them manually, you'll have to venture into his mind yourself."

Yuto:"I-I'm sorry, what?"

Baku:"If the Yo-Kai is inspiriting you and messing with your head then it probably is in your head .. That's how it's able to mess with your head.."

USApyon:"How in tarnation are we supposed to do that, exactly?"

Baku:"Well first of all, you need to be asleep."

Baku said, gesturing to Yuto.

Yuto:"Uh, O-Okay.."

Yuto proceeded to lie down on the couch. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. With a single puff of Baku's smoke, he was out cold.

Nate:"So, uh.. What now?"

Baku:"I can transport all of you into his consciousness, but you won't be able to get out of there while Yuto's asleep, so everyone might as well come along.. But then there is the issue of collateral damage.. So I'd advise you all to be careful as to not damage Yuto's mind permanently."

Hailey:"Well, you two take care of the office while we're gone, alright?"

Whapir:"Will do."

Blizzie:"Good luck, kiddos!"

Baku then took a deep breath and puffed a large cloud of smoke that engulfed the entire office, when the smoke faded, everyone had been transported to a vast dark void with no end in sight.

Baku:"Well.. Here we are."

Jibanyan:"Aw, man, why'd I have to come?"

Jibanyan complained.

Yuto had also somehow been transported into this void, he suddenly woke up shocked while hyperventilating.

Yuto:"Wha-"

Hailey:"Whoa, you okay?"

Yuto:"Wh-where are we?"

He said, sounding panicked.

Hailey:"Why, we're in your consciousness. We're.. Here to help you with your nightmares.. Remember?"

Yuto:"R-right.."

Hailey then grabbed his hand and pulled him up.

Yuto:"So uh...we're in my mind, right now?"

Hailey:"Weird, huh?"

Yuto:"Yeah… I certainly wasn't expecting this…just, please don't snoop around where I don't want you to."

Suddenly, a big rush of smoke came from the edge of the void and blew over everyone. The strong wind combined with the blinding smoke disorientated them. When the smoke cleared up, they were greeted with a seemingly normal living room.

Katie:"Wh-where are we?"

Yuto:"This is… my house… wh-why are we here?"

Baku:"This isn't your living room, it's a construct within your mind, it's where your dreams take place."

It wasn't a perfect replica of Yuto's living room, there were bits and pieces that were missing, resulting in glitching gaps in the wall and floor.

'Huh.. I could've sworn I've been here before.. Wait.. He's not THAT Yuto.. Is he?' Nate thought to himself.

Yuto's Mom:"Hi dear! How was school?"

Everyone screamed in unison upon Yuto's mother that seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

Yuto:"M-mom?"

Baku:"That's not her… I can sense an awfully strong aura coming from her.."

Hailey:"So that's the mole, huh?"

Without thinking, Hailey lunged at the woman to get a hold of her.

Yuto:"Wait, what are you doing-"

Yuto tried to reason but it was too late. However, when Hailey tried to grab her, her hand phased through Yuto's mother. Immediately after, she evaporated into a puff of purple mist.

Katie:"Aw… Crud."

The mist then condensed into a large ghostly figure, scaring the group and causing them to back away. Part of the figure extended into a weapon, something that resembled a scythe. Yuto, frozen in fear, took a step back while trying to process what was happening. The dark mass then reeled back the scythe and swung it at the boy. Nate immediately grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the way. The large figure started slashing wildly in the living room, causing it to tilt back and forth. The tilts caused Nate and Yuto to fall from the living room and get separated from the rest of the group.

Nate and Yuto continuously fell until they hit another surface, they then found themselves in a place that resembled a wasteland, with all sorts of constructs like a school, theme park, houses, and different places merged together creating an unruly mixture.

Nate:"Ow…"

Nate groaned and rolled to the side before coughing. He then got up from the ground.

Nate:"Hey, you okay?"

Yuto coughed.

Yuto:"More or less.."

He said as Nate pulled him up from the ground.

Nate:"So.. Was that what's been haunting you?"

Yuto:"I don't get it! Everytime I try to confront it, I end up freezing! I know I shouldn't be scared but, argh! why does that happen every time?!"

Yuto ranted.

Nate:"Whoa, It's okay, we'll get to the bottom of this."

Yuto exhaled and tried to pull himself together.

Yuto:"You're right, you're right… Do you deal with this kinda thing often?"

Nate:"Eh, more or less.."

Nate said with his hand holding his neck.

Nate looked at their surroundings and saw the mess they were stuck in.

Nate:"Looks like we better get moving.."

-hard cut-

Everyone else was still fighting the large figure, or evading his swings rather, while constantly moving around the tilting room which was collapsing bit by bit at the same time. Suddenly, when the figure realised Yuto was no longer there, he immediately bolted into the air and dove down into the depths.

Jibanyan:"Hey where's he going?!"

USApyon:"Shoot! He got away!"

Katie:"Hey, where's Nate and Yuto?"

Due to the lack of Yuto's presence, the construct of Yuto's living room in his dream started to creak.

Hailey:"Oooh that sounds pretty bad.."

Eventually, it gave in and completely collapsed. Everyone screamed as they fell down into the abyss.

Whisper:"Oh dear, this can't be good at all."

Whisper said as he was still floating in the air before floating down after them.

-hard cut-

Nate and Yuto were navigating the cluster of constructs filled with an eerie silence. Yuto was trying to explain the nightmares he was having but he was hesitating a bit, reluctant to share something so personal.

Nate:"Hey.. It's okay if you talk to me, we're just here to help you after all…"

Nate said, trying his best to help.

Yuto:"I know, I know, It's just.. It feels uncomfortable sharing it. I-I.."

Nate:"Deep breaths, I know it's hard but, you'll feel better opening up."

Nate tried to comfort him.

Yuto:"Right! So.. My nightmares…"

Yuto sighed.

Yuto:"Oh, where do I start?.."

He said as he hung his head down.

Yuto:"Every night, it's the same thing. No matter where my dream takes place, I just get overwhelmed by all these voices.. They'd all tell me I'm wasting my time.. That I'm not.. Good enough."

Nate:"Hm."

Yuto:"Sometimes I'd hear voices I recognize, my friends, even my parents.. Like they don't care how I feel, like they don't care what I want for myself."

Yuto clenched his fist.

Yuto:"They can't just expect me to do what they think I should, I have my own ambitions!"

Nate:"Woah, chill! You know it's not actually them saying that..Y'know, you're only letting him win if you start to lose it.."

Yuto:"You're right, you're right… Recently, I've been hearing those same voices outside my dreams.. I hear my parents say it but… I-I know I'm hearing things! I know my parents care about how I feel.. Or at least I hope they do.. Everything is just a blur at this point.."

Nate:"So, you'd say your worst fear is.. Having your feelings ignored by your loved ones?"

Yuto gave out an awkward chuckle.

Yuto:"I guess it must be.. Y'know, everyone always tells me I should have a respectable job like a lawyer or a doctor, but… In all honesty, I wanna be a manga author."

Yuto put his hand on his neck and looked down.

Yuto:"It's kinda embarrassing to admit, really."

'Short brown hair, a Yo-Kai Watch Model U, same living room, manga author..I guess he really IS that Yuto.. I guess I shouldn't tell him now..' Nate thought to himself.

Yuto:"Whatever, I'm not gonna let this charlatan Yo-Kai or whatever ruin my life!"

Nate:"That's the spirit! So… Tell me, where does that..thing, fit into all your nightmares?"

Nate said as a line of dark purple matter crept behind them on the ground subtly without them noticing

Yuto:"Well um.. It's weird y'know.. I get this deja vu feeling, that.. thing would tower in front of me and no matter what I…"

Yuto slowed down his sentence as they looked up to see that the matter had amalgamated into the being from his nightmares and was now towering in front of them.

Yuto:"... Do, I just.. Freeze in fear and it gets me every time."

Yuto said softly with a quiver in his voice, fearfully mesmerized by the large figure. It reeled back slowly and suddenly and swiftly swung his scythe at the boy.

Nate:"Hey! Snap out of it!"

Nate said as he pulled Yuto away, avoiding the hit. Yuto shook his head and grunted.

Nate:"C'mon, we gotta get outta here!"

Yuto tried to pull himself as they started running away from the figure with strike after striking hitting the ground behind them.

-hard cut-

The rest of the group fell into a sheerly different place, an endless hallway adorned with paintings and doors of different sizes.

Jibanyan:"Man, I am so taking a nyap after this!"

Jibanyan exclaimed as he got up from the ground.

Katie:"Ugh, where are we now?"

Katie complained.

Baku:"Memory lane."

Baku answered

Baku:"It's a vault used for storing someone's memories that are more important than others, it's what the paintings and doors represent, after the commotion, it looks like we've somehow ended up here.."

Hailey:"Well that's perfect! If we look around a little, maybe we'll find the cause of Yuto's nightmares!"

Katie:"What!? We can't do that! I-Isn't it kind of a breach of privacy, I mean we barely even know the guy, we've only met him like half an hour ago!"

USApyon:"Yeah, I'm with Katie on this one.. Ya can't just barge in all willy nilly."

Hailey:"Well, I guess you're right.. But what are we supposed to do?"

Baku:"Wait… Everyone stay still!"

Whisper:"What is it?"

Baku:"I'm sensing a powerful aura within these halls.. It's coming from over there!"

Baku quickly walked away towards it followed by the rest of the group. It wasn't long before they stumbled upon a large white door barred with chains and curses surrounded by paintings besmirched with what looks like tar.

Katie:"Well this looks important.."

Baku:"It's barred with spirit magic.. No doubt, a Yo-Kai must've done this…"

Hailey:"So, can you… Unbar it?"

Hailey asked curiously.

Baku:"It's pretty strong, I'm going to need your help, if we focus and combine our spirit energy we might be able to break it."

She said facing the other Yo-Kai.

USApyon:"You can count on us."

Jibanyan:"Got it, nya."

-hard cut-

Nate and Yuto were running away from the ghostly being, the ground crumbling behind them. Rubble was being thrown at them from behind, barely missing.

Nate:"Who-hoa! You go through this hell every night!?"

Yuto:"It's no use running, I-I've tried everything!"

Yuto's voice started to break down. The ground in front of them collapsed, leaving them with nowhere to run. Yuto almost went over the edge, but Nate pulled him back at the last second as they were forced to face this monster head-on.

-hard cut-

Baku stood in front of the door, using her, Jibanyan's, and USApyon's spirit power, she stood her ground, chanting mantras combatting the magic-powered seal. After one last chant, she blasted away the chains and curses binding the door, purifying it.

Hailey:"Haha! It worked!"

Whisper:"Well then, let's hurry! Nate and Yuto are still out there with that thing!"

Hailey opened the door to find herself 10 stories high on what looked like a construction site. She looked to her side to see that she was right on the edge of a deadly fall.

Hailey:"Whoaaa!"

She almost fell over the edge but she flailed enough to keep her balance.

Hailey:"Geez.. Hey guys, mind the fall!"

She looked in front of her to see a younger Yuto getting cornered into the fall by a large floating Yo-kai wielding a scythe.

Hailey:"Hey! Get away from him!"

She shouted at the large spirit.

Baku:"It's a memory, they can't see or hear you."

Katie:"Hey, that guy looks a lot like that thing we fought, you think he might be the perp?"

Whisper instinctively brought out his Yo-Kai pad and searched for this particular Yo-Kai.

Whisper:"That's… HIGHLY UNLIKELY!"

Whisper yelled in shock as he found the Yo-Kai shortly after searching.

Whisper:"That's no ordinary Yo-Kai, That's Demon Okure!"

Hailey:"I'm sorry, who?"

Whisper:"It says here, he was sent down to earth burdened with the task of reaping human souls with no purpose. Commonly referred to as the angel of death."

He read from his Yo-Kai pad word for word.

Baku:"Whatever's inspiriting Yuto must be manifesting as him in his nightmares, he must play a big role in his fears, the experience must've scarred him."

Katie:"So this guy's a grim reaper type deal? How did Yuto end up on his list?"

Hailey:"More importantly, how'd he get off the hook?"

Hailey said softly before she looked at the scene to watch intently.

Demon Okure:"Okure, okure, souls go to the afterlife.."

He chanted as he brought himself closer to the boy.

Demon Okure:"Human souls with no purpose have no purpose in this life."

?:"W-wait! You can't just do that!"

Another Yo-Kai stepped in to stop the demon, a seemingly small light blue ghost.

Hailey:"Huh.. Whisper, who's that?"

Whisper:"U-Uhh, hold on, I'm sure I remember.."

He said, caught off guard as he pulled out his Yo-Kai pad once again. After swiping for a while, he still seemed to be struggling.

Whisper:"There must be something wrong here! He's not registered in the Yo-Kai pad, that's never happened before!"

-hard cut-

Nate and Yuto were cornered at the edge of the fall, as the ghostly being inched closer, Yuto collapsed onto his knees, hands on his head, as if he was going insane.

Nate:"Yuto!"

-hard cut-

Demon Okure:"Well then, is there anything you would like to do, boy?"

The boy was speechless for a moment, thinking of what to say, before the words came out of his mouth.

Younger Yuto:"...No…"

?:"What?! Wh-What about becoming a manga author?! I-I saw it in your room! All those instruction books?"

The Yo-Kai interjected, desperately trying to save him. The boy sighed.

Younger Yuto:"That's never gonna happen.."

He grumbled before letting out an outburst.

Younger Yuto:"It doesn't matter! You think my parents are gonna let me get a stupid job like that?! They'd only want me to do something respectable for a living.. It doesn't matter what I want!"

-hard cut-

Yuto:"It… doesn't matter.."

He said as he kneeled on the ground, leaning down even more.

Nate:"... what?"

Yuto:"I've tried everything! I've tried running from it, I've tried facing it, I've tried talking to it but nothing works! I'm never gonna beat this thing and it's gonna haunt me for the rest of my life!"

Yuto said despairingly with a quivering voice before going quiet with a shaky breath as the figure appeared to be growing stronger.

Yuto:"I don't know… It's like.. It's like-"

Nate:"Something's missing.."

Yuto:"Y...yeah.."

-hard cut-

?:"Th-that's not true! Everyone just wants you to-

Suddenly, as the Yo-Kai tried to reason with Yuto, the hole in his belly started to glow.

?:"Haha! That's it! Yuto, I need you to look through this hole right now. It shows you the daily life of the people you're thinking of. Y'know, their normal daily life! I need you to see how your parents are!"

Younger Yuto:"What?! Why would I-

?:"Oh just shut up and do it!"

-hard cut-

Nate turned to face the large being before taking a deep breath.

Nate:"Listen, I don't know who you think you are, but I'm not gonna let you ruin Yuto's life like this."

Nate clenched his fist.

Nate:"I know that he has a bright future and a caring, supportive family, and you have no right to take that away from him!

Yuto looked up to Nate, confused at his sudden statements.

Nate:"You've made him go through this hell over and over again…"

He paused.

Nate:"And I wasn't there for him."

Yuto's eyes widened at that last statement, wondering what it meant.

-hard cut-

After looking into the Yo-Kai's hole, the younger Yuto realised how much his parents truly cared for him, the thought alone was enough to make him tear up.

?:"See? This is how they are everyday.. All the time they've spent thinking about what's best for you is because they only want you to be happy!... You do have a dream don't you?"

Younger Yuto:"Y..Yeah!"

After seeing the boy rejoice, the demon moved back and disappeared in a puff of smoke as he realised he didn't need to reap the boy's soul anymore.

Hailey:"So that's why it locked this memory... It didn't want Yuto to remember how he was saved.."

Katie:"Nate and Yuto are still out there, we gotta get to them pronto!"

Jibanyan:"Well how do we do that?"

Katie:"I might.. Have an idea.."

She said as she pulled a medal from her pocket."

Katie:"Come on out my friend! Calling Whapir!"

Charming Tribe: Whapir!

Whapir:"Ah, what can I do for you?"

Katie:"Okay, so you're good with like, peering into memories, right? You can rewind, fast forward, and all that?"

Whapir:"Well...Yes, what of it?"

Katie:"We're all inside of Yuto's memories right now, can you fast forward it so we can get to where Yuto is in the present? No pressure but, He and Nate might be in danger right now."

Whapir:"What? I've.. never done it that particular way but, I guess it is worth a shot."

She stomped to stabilize herself, and then proceeded to Inhale shards of this memory. She focused on them for a little bit and when she blew them out, everyone was blown along with them, speeding through years worth of memories.

-hard cut-

Nate:"So yeah."

Nate stood his ground before unholstering his blaster and holding on the side of his hips.

Nate:"If you wanna hurt my friend, you're gonna have to go through me, first."

He asserted.

Yuto:"...Friend?"

Yuto muttered to himself. Looking at the way Nate stood up for him, knew about his parents, and seemed to really care about him, combined with the door that Baku unlocked in memory lane, something finally clicked inside Yuto. When he looked at Nate, he could imagine seeing a familiar silhouette overlap him.

Yuto:"W-wait, are you-..?"

Nate:"I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you as Fuu2, I-I didn't know about this at all. I wasn't gonna tell you until later but hey.. I guess it's outta the bag now."

Yuto:"I-I don't understand.. How?"

Nate:"I'll explain later, and I'll make everything up to you after this, I promise."

One by one, all of Yuto's fears started fading away. The ghostly figure then retracted his hand and tried swinging his scythe at full force at the boy, only to have it break, due to not being able to feed off of Yuto's fears. Shortly after, the large being collapsed into a pile of smoke. When it cleared, it revealed a smaller Yo-Kai, almost identical to Baku, but a darker shade of purple, with black legs, and a pair of long red flares stemming from it's front pair of legs. Small patches of it's body were covered in scales, it had lizard-like eyes and was wearing a japanese priest hat.

Charming Tribe: Goku-Baku

It was lying on it's back, flailing, trying to get up whilst cursing profusely. Yuto slowly walked over to the Yo-Kai and crouched in front of it.

Yuto:"So.. You were the one behind all this, huh?"

The Yo-Kai suddenly jumped back on it's feet.

Goku-Baku:"You'll never take me alive!"

He then turned around and tried dashing away only to be blocked by the rest of the team.

Goku-Baku:"O..kay, maybe you will.."

Katie:"Hey! There you are! You guys alright?"

Nate:"Well, we're still in one piece."

He said cheerfully.

Hailey:"Now.."

Hailey crouched to look the Yo-Kai right in the eye.

Hailey:"You've got some explaining to do."

Goku-Baku:"Ah, well, as you might know, I feed off of fear, right? Nightmares are just my way of doing so, I don't really see the problem here."

Hailey:"Well, I mean, you're supposed to switch between people right? You can't just stick to Yuto!"

Goku-Baku:"That is the case but, I found an exploit in this boy and I just thought it would be more… efficient?.. I like conserving my energy."

Hailey groaned whilst giving herself a facepalm.

Hailey:"You drove him crazy, man! You could've ruined his life! I mean.. Sure you can give people nightmares every now and then but you went really overboard with this one."

USApyon:"Y'know.. On top of that, high human-endangerment is a real serious crime in Youmakai."

Goku-Baku:"I.. Did not think about that.. I usually think things through."

The Yo-Kai then turned to face Yuto.

Goku-Baku:"Kid, I uh.. I do not know what to say."

Yuto:"Uh.. Me neither, honestly."

Goku-Baku:"I don't do this very often, but I suppose? Maybe? You could have my medal? Y'know, as a formal apology, and not to give a complaint to the authorities."

Yuto:"Not sure what you mean but.. Okay, I guess.."

Shortly after, a spark of light appeared and a medal fell into Yuto's hands. The Yo-Kai then disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Yuto:"So… that's it?"

Hailey:"Well yeah, he's gone so.. You should be a-okay."

Yuto:"Do you.. Want this medal or?"

Nate:"Oh no, you can keep it if you want."

Baku:"Well, I suppose we should get out of here, are you ready to wake up?"

Yuto:"Yeah!"

-the next day-

Hailey:"Okay okay, so you're telling me, that you died once, got turned into a Yo-Kai, and then came back to life after helping Yuto?"

Nate:"I mean, yeah that's the jist of it."

Hailey:"And you've never told me about this, somehow?"

Katie:"Man, I wonder what that's like.."

Yuto:"Good morning! Sorry for the sudden intrusion."

He said as he walked through the door, looking a lot fresher. His hair was now combed properly, he no longer had eyebags, and his clothes were now neatly put on.

Nate:"Yuto! You're back."

Yuto:"Yeah, I wanted to stop by for a bit."

Hailey:"Well, you're looking a lot better!"

Yuto:"Yeah, I slept like a log last night, thanks to you guys."

Hailey:"So uh, what brings you here again?"

Yuto:"Well um, actually.. I've been thinking about this for a while.. And I've decided that I want to join this agency."

Katie:"Woah, really?"

Yuto:"Look, I know you're not looking for any applications and I'm perfectly fine if you decline my-"

Hailey:"Oh no! That's great! What made you want to join?"

Yuto:"I've been thinking about the Yo-Kai Watch Fuu2-.. I'm sorry, Nate gave me, and I thought that I should at least use it for something."

He said while giving a warm smile to Nate.

Yuto:"Y'know, I wouldn't wanna let this watch go unused, right?"

Hailey:"Sweet! The more, the merrier!"

Yuto:"Well, I am a bit inexperienced with this whole Yo-Kai thing so, I hope you'll be patient with me."

Katie:"Oh that's fine, Yuto. I'm actually a rookie myself! In fact, I didn't know anything about Yo-Kai until like, last week!"

Yuto:"Really?"

Katie:"Yeah! Well.. I'm sure we can help each other out, right?"

She said as she extended her hand for a handshake.

Yuto:"Yeah, that'd be great!"

He exclaimed as he shook her hand.

Author's Notes

-Hey there, sorry this one took a while, it was mainly because of online school getting in the way. I don't really think this one was as good as it could've been simply because I'm not that good at describing scenes since but hopefully it's good enough for YW standards. I'm still new to fanfiction, so of course feedback is appreciated as always.

-Anyway yeah, I decided to add Yuto to the roster, y'know, from the second movie? I know no one really talks about him but I thought he would be a great addition, I found out that there was no Yuto in the YW character list in which I think should be a crime.

-So yeah, I had to write that scene from Movie 2 again in this chapter just to re-establish Yuto's history with Nate, of course I didn't write the whole thing exactly since I'm a lazy bastard but hey, hopefully it got the point across.

-So, the Yo-Kai for this chapter was Goku-Baku which I don't think is in the canon Yo-Kai watch but there is Goku-Venoct and Blizzaria so, I decided to make the Yo-Kai a Goku version of Baku because it's easier and I'm not that confident in making original Yo-Kai.

-Now that the whole team is established, I'm excited to really expand on the story and characters. Plus, It's fun to get back to the usual cases, I'll try to make them more fun (Whoo! Crime!).
