Casefile #6: Unfinished Business
Yuto sat down on the couch at the center of the office, sketchbook in hand and a blue lead pencil, practicing his human anatomy drawing. However, Hailey who sat next to him was leaning on him, pressing against his shoulder, which was really bothersome to Yuto, and an invasion of personal space from his perspective.
Hailey:"Wow! I didn't know you were so good at art!"
She cheerfully complimented.
Yuto:*clears throat* "Yeah, I've been... practicing for a while.."
Yuto said sheepishly as she pushed her away with his hand on her cheek.
Yuto:"Please have a regard for my personal space, Hailey. We're still only acquaintances.."
Yuto asserted.
Hailey:"Ahaha, r-right.. Sorry, I got a little carried away."
She said in an embarrassed tone. After observing Yuto's sketches for a little longer, she decided to grab a pencil herself.
Hailey:"Hey, wouldn't it be cool if this guy had a helmet or.. Ooh maybe a suit of armor!"
She said as she started scribbling accessories on Yuto's sketches, much to his annoyance.
Hailey:"Wait, no! What about a cape with um.. A really high collar.."
Hailey kept rambling on as she scribbled on his drawings again which only made him visibly angrier.
Yuto:"Hailey.. What is that supposed to be?"
Yuto asked in a judgemental tone while visibly trying to contain his anger.
Hailey:"Oh, y'know, It's a cloak.. I usually see them being worn by like.. Really cool anime supervillains.."
Yuto:"You watch anime?"
Hailey:"Well yeah! A lot of it, but I'd say I watch Sailor Cuties the most, especially when I was younger.."
Yuto:"Sailor Cuties, huh?"
Hailey:"Yeah, have you seen it?"
Yuto:"Um, no actually.. Well, I've heard things about it but I've never really watched it.."
Hailey:"Aw man, you totally should! Hey, I keep my DVD collection of it in this office, we should totally watch it together!"
Yuto:"Y'know what? Sure… I don't see why not.."
He said before he closed his sketchbook and set it on the table.
Hailey:"Haha! Sweet!"
As Hailey walked over to the cupboard to find her DVD set, the front door busted open, swinging all the way and hitting the wall.
Roughraff:"Hey! You fools better listen! I'm in some serious mud right now!"
Tough Tribe: Roughraff
Blizzie:"GAAA!"
Blizzie, who was sleeping on her office chair, was given a rude awakening by that sudden event. She took a deep breath to suppress her anger before addressing Roughraff.
Blizzie:"Knock next time, wouldja?"
Nate:"Oh, It's Roughraff.. What are you doing here?"
Before responding, the Yo-Kai quickly dashed around, locking the windows and closing the blinds.
Katie:"Woah…. Is something wrong?"
Roughraff:"Hey! Shut it, chick! I gotta make sure no one's listenin'.."
Katie:"Chick?!"
She raised her voice, sounding moderately offended. Roughraff then proceeded to pick up a bunch of wooden boards which he gathered from seemingly nowhere before hastily hammering them onto the windows.
Yuto:"Is um.. Is anyone gonna tell me who this guy is?"
Whisper:"Certainly! This right here is Roughraff, he's famously known, or.. Infamously known, rather, for inspiriting the youth and turning them into delinquents, he's a real bad tough guy through and through!"
Whisper said, reading aloud from his Yo-Kai pad.
Katie:"That's this guy, really?"
-hard cut-
After boarding up the windows, Roughraff sat on one of the couches, his eyes darting from side to side, making sure that there was absolutely no one else listening in.
Katie:"Hey, don't you think this is a bit… overkill?"
She said while looking at all the windows boarded shut with a sweat drop.
Hailey:"So uh.. Are you gonna tell us what's up, or..?
Roughraff then leaned in and started whispering.
Roughraff:"Look, I dunno what's up, but somethin's really wrong!"
Hailey:"How so?"
Roughraff:"So, I was walkin' back to the west alleys in Spirit's Corridor to hang with my boys. Ya see, we have a small abandoned spot on 12th Street, it's quiet, it's perfect for squeezin' anyone passin' by .. Hey, before I forget to say this, you better not blab about this or you're a dead man!"
Hailey:"Right! Right.. I-I won't. So… what happened?"
Roughraff:"Well, we were gonna have some fun together, Y'know, roll around town, maybe hit a couple stops.. But when I got there I didn't hear anything, I thought the boys mighta left me hangin so I barged in there… And I just saw everybody lyin' on the ground! Th-they were soulless and everything!"
Hailey:"Woah! You serious?!"
Hailey's eyes lit up out of horror and excitement at the same time.
Roughraff:"Yeah, I saw them all covered in cuts and stuff, I thought I mighta been next so I took a mad dash for it, I heard about your little agency so I ran straight here."
Hailey:"Wait… W-why didn't you didn't report this to Yo-Kai PD?"
Roughraff squinted his eyes and tilted his head, as if this idea was so foreign to him.
Hailey:"Oh… right."
Nate:"How many Yo-Kai are in that gang, exactly?"
Roughraff:"Uh.. About 7, includin' me."
Katie:"Wait, so this guy single handedly reaped the souls of 6 other Yo-Kai?"
Nate:"Well, It doesn't necessarily have to be one unsub.."
Yuto:"Unsub?"
Hailey:"Oh yeah, it's stands for-"
Yuto:"Unknown or unidentified subject, yeah, I know. I just didn't know you guys used that terminology."
USApyon:"Wait a darn minute, I think I might've heard about this somewhere.. Hold on!"
USApyon said as he started digging through the newspaper stacks on the table.
Hailey:"You have?"
USApyon:"Aha! Here it is! The media's been callin' him The Corridor Ripper"
Katie:"What's that?"
USApyon:"Well, he's been goin' on a whole killin' spree in and around town."
He said as he handed over the newspaper to Hailey.
Hailey:"Hold the phone.. 5 murders since last week?! This is insane!"
She said while reading the article.
Katie:"If this is the same guy who did them, this is a pretty big escalation.."
Nate:"He's deteriorating.."
USApyon:"All of his victims have been found in low traffic areas in Spirit's Corridor, since most of his victims have been affiliated with gangs, some people have even seen him as a local hero and a vigilante."
Nate:"Hey Blizzie, we need a list of all his murders along with the general timeline, try looking into news articles or Yo-Kai PD records."
Blizzie:"Right away! your favorite genius is on it.. It might take a while though."
She said as she started working on her laptop.
Yuto:"Wait, you're digging into police records? Is that.. Is that even legal?"
Katie:"That's the same thing I asked!"
Hailey:"Well, we're not gonna find anything by just staying here, let's go look at Roughraff's spot for ourselves!"
Yuto:"Hey, wouldn't it be wiser to call the authorities-"
Roughraff:"Nu-uh! No way you doin' that! I ain't givin' up my spot to the cops no matter what!"
Yuto:"I.. Okay.. You guys are totally on board with this?"
Hailey:"You kidding? This is the first time we've been able to examine a fresh crime scene without Yo-Kai PD getting in the way!"
Yuto:"This feels highly irresponsible."
Yuto muttered, slightly regretting his decision to join the agency.
Hailey:"Alright Roughraff, we're gonna need you to show the way!"
Roughraff:"No way! That palooka is still after me! I ain't goin' anywhere! Here!"
He said as he pulled a map from his belt and handed it over to Hailey, it had a circle drawn in marker around a secluded area in Spirit's Corridor.
Katie:"You're gonna stay at the office?… Blizzie, you alright with this?"
Blizzie gave a defeated sigh.
Blizzie:"Sure, just... don't get in my way… or touch any of my stuff."
She asserted
Nate:"So Yuto, this is your first case, huh? Are you ready?"
Yuto:"Well… sure, what's the worst that can happen?"
He said with a slight hint of sarcasm while shrugging.
-hard cut-
The group had arrived at the alleyway marked on the map, it was narrow and coarsely littered with garbage.
Hailey:"So, this is the place, huh?"
Katie:"Ugh, really? No wonder they chose this spot, no one would ever wanna walk through that.."
Nate:"Hey, Yuto! You comin'?"
He shouted at Yuto who was falling a bit behind, looking around at the unruly condition of Spirit's Corridor.
Yuto:"Oh, uh, Yeah! I'm just uh.. Taking it all in.. "
Several run down buildings were laid along Spirit's Corridor, the place was also crawling with homeless Yo-Kai, junkies, and delinquents.
Yuto:"Hey.. I-I don't wanna be rude… but this place is kinda messed up."
He said while dodging a comical burning tire rolling in front of him.
Whisper:"Oh no, this is just Spirit's Corridor. It's one of the poorest and most crime-ridden areas in New Yo-Kai City. It's pretty common to feel appalled by the ludicrous state of it. I myself feel the same.."
Yuto:"Huh.. Good to know, I .. guess."
USApyon:"It's uh.. It's a bit of a tight squeeze, dontcha think?"
He said looking into the narrow entrance to the alley.
Hailey:"Well, we're not gonna get anywhere by just standing here!"
She said before hastily walking into the alleyway, steeping in littered garbage several times. Nate gulped before following her along with the others.
Katie:"Man, this is disgusting!"
Katie yelled as she felt her foot sinking into garbage. Upon reaching the other side, they kept walking through the alleyway until they stumbled upon a wire fence with a slightly opened gate. Hailey was the first to skip through the gate but almost immediately flinched and took a step back.
Hailey:"Oh My gosh!"
They were greeted by the soulless bodies of multiple gangbangers, all of them roughed up in some way.
USApyon:"What happened here?"
Nate:"Man, look at all those cuts.."
Nate said as he pushed one body upward to examine it. Parts of the body were covered in cuts and stab wounds, they looked as if they were inflicted rapidly.
Katie:"Looks like all of them have the same wounds.."
She said, while examining another body. Shortly after, Nate's phone rang with Blizzie calling.
Nate:"Hey! It's Blizzie."
He quickly picked it up and put it on speakerphone.
Nate:"Hey, how's it goin'?"
Blizzie:"Sup,fellas? So, I looked up this guy's dirty work on those records and news articles like you asked me?"
Katie:"So what'd you find?"
Blizzie:"Good question, ponytail. So, I was able to find the first record of The Corridor Ripper from last week, 4 Yo-Kai, all of which were gangbangers were found soulless in the southeast end of SC, and then, 2 days ago, there was another gang found soulless a few blocks down."
Hailey:"So he is targeting gangs.. That's a good start for the profile."
Blizzie:"Whoa, not so fast, cowgirl, I also found a few unrelated murders in between, the victims were just a buncha junkies and hobos, though.. But they did have the same wounds as The Corridor Ripper cases."
Whisper:"Well that doesn't make sense.."
USApyon:"Yeah, they're not targeting one type of Yo-Kai.."
Yuto:What if they were experiencing a psychotic break?"
Katie:"A what?"
Yuto got up from crouching on the ground to show that he'd found a small tube-like orange bottle on the ground, not too far from the bodies.
Yuto:"It's a prescription for Haloperidol, you'd only get prescribed these for antipsychotic treatment, the date on the bottle is 2 weeks ago but it's still full. My guess is they haven't been taking their meds like they're supposed to."
Whisper:"Is there a name on the label?"
Yuto:"Sadly not.. They scratched it out.."
Nate:"Psychosis..? That's it! Blizzie, I need you to find every Yo-Kai that was recently released from a mental institute in or around Spirit's Corridor."
Blizzie:"Now we're getting' somewhere, gimme a sec.."
She said as she started searching on her laptop.
Blizzie:"I've got over 100 Yo-Kai from 4 different institutes, explain to me how to narrow down this list."
Yuto:"Woah, that was fast!"
Hailey:"Uh.. Try looking for ones with a last known address in SC."
Blizzie:"That's still most of the patients…"
She said after filtering them out.
Katie:"Looks like we're gonna have to dig a little deeper on this.. Hey, by the way, how's Roughraff doing?"
Blizzie:"He's uh… he's hiding under the coffee table… I mean it's great he's not getting in the way but.. I-It's kinda just sad to watch, honestly…"
Katie:"Ah, I see.."
Blizzie:"Please do solve this for his sake.. Good luck!"
She said before hanging up.
Nate:"So, what do we do now?"
Hailey:"We might have enough for a profile, so let's go over what we know."
Nate:"The psychotic break definitely means they're unorganized, but that's just gonna make them harder to catch.."
Nate sighed.
Katie:"They stay away from high traffic areas here, so they'd have to know Spirit's Corridor pretty well.."
Yuto:"Or that could mean they might be suffering from some form of epilepsy..."
Hailey:"Aaand, we're back to square one.. Dammit!"
Yuto:"People who are going through a psychotic break usually experience hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thoughts, speech patterns, and behaviour.. Stuff like that is pretty noticeable, especially when they're extremely agitated, like after committing something like this.. I think the best thing to do now is ask around.."
Katie:"H-How do you know about all this stuff?"
Yuto:"I uh.. I read a lot."
Hailey:"Alright then, we should split up to cover more ground."
She said as she started to walk away.
Yuto:"Wait!"
Yuto quickly exclaimed, which got everyone's full attention.
Yuto:"If you really are going to confront whoever this is, please be careful. People experiencing a psychotic break tend to lash out under stress, we've seen what this guy can do."
He said while gesturing towards the lying bodies.
Yuto:"If you do find them, approach them calmly, do NOT in any way provoke them or agitate them. show that you're not a threat, and try to gain their trust…
He said in a dead serious tone.
Yuto:"I know this might sound hard but.. Try to sympathize with them."

The team split up and asked multiple Yo-Kai in Spirit's Corridor if they'd seen anyone out of the ordinary. Imagine a montage, if you will. Unfortunately to no avail. Meanwhile, another Yo-Kai was running down the streets in another part of Spirit's Corridor, they seemed intensely distressed, they kept pushing onto different surfaces as if they didn't have any balance whatsoever. Suddenly, they were bombarded with a sudden flashback seemingly of when they were human. There was a vision of what looked like the individual parents, abruptly clashing with other visions of a dirty alleyway, followed by screams, before another voice chimed in.
?:"Enjoyed the show, kid?"
The flashbacks suddenly stopped, and the figure clenched their fists and started running more recklessly.

After asking around, the team regrouped on the sidewalk of a bustling street in Spirit's Corridor.
Nate:"You guys get anything?"
Hailey:"Zilch. No one saw anything…"
Katie:"Well, what are we supposed to do now? How are we supposed to find someone who has no idea where he's going?"
Yuto:"That's not entirely true.. They do have disorganized thoughts but they do have a certain sense of direction. They're usually fixated on their memories, so they'll be going somewhere that holds a certain significance to them at the peak of their insanity.. The problem is, we have to figure out where."
Hailey:"So.. This whole psychotic break thing happened cause' he stopped taking his meds, right? Why'd he do that?"
Nate:"Do you think maybe he was trying to remember something?"
Katie:"And then he started attacking people.."
She muttered.
Yuto:"Since most of their victims are outlawed gangbangers, it's possible that they have a significant role in the unsub's life, which is why they're a psychological trigger.. Maybe from a certain event in their life."
Katie put her hand on her chin, pondering for a bit, until she seemingly had a eureka moment and instinctively pulled out her phone and dialed a number.
Blizzie:"Yo, how's it goin'?"
Blizzie answered on the other side.
Katie:"Hi, listen. You remember that list of mental hospital patients you made?"
Blizzie:"Yeah, what do I do with them?"
Katie:"Okay, are there any of them that got admitted because of gang-related street violence?"
Blizzie:"That's uh.. That's pretty specific, might take a while to find.."
She said as she started searching the hospital records.
Blizzie:"Hold on.. Gimme a sec.. "
Katie:"So..?"
Blizzie:"Hey, be patient! It's not easy sifting through 100 Yo-Kai, y'know?!"
She kept searching through the records, and before long, she found someone matching Katie's description.
Blizzie:"Bingo! Found it. Freya Farsler. Apparently, she was admitted after an assault case in SC a few years ago.. She reportedly tried to attack some gangbangers on their turf and got severely injured… She ended up getting diagnosed with some serious mental illnesses.. Turns out, that attack happened because she had a certain psychological trigger towards them.. Hoo boy, this is heavy.. Apparently, she remembered who She was as a human, but she had no memory of her death.. She ended up getting released 2 weeks ago with a prescription of antipsychotics.."
She said, trying to skim through the document.
Nate:"Looks like Yuto's theory was right.."
Hailey:"Yeah.. But.. we still don't know why she has that trigger.. Hey Blizzie, try switching to human police records and search her name in there.."
Blizzie:"Right away, Ace.."
She said as she hastily started searching. Putting her name in Springdale PD's database on her laptop.
Blizzie:"Aha! Gotcha!.. Oh.. oh dear.."
Her mood quickly shifted after reading the report, she then proceeded to cover her mouth with her hand.
Katie:"What's up?"
Blizzie:"It… It's horrific.. Apparently she and her parents got mugged in Downtown Springdale 5 years ago. Neighbours said they were going out to the mall to celebrate her birthday … When they were gonna go home..They were just at the wrong place at the wrong time…It said here that they most likely got cornered in an alleyway by a criminal gang and.. Bam! Money, jewelry, accessories, they were all stolen.."
USApyon:"What happened?"
Blizzie:"All 3 of them were found dead… cause of death was several impacts from a blunt object.. According to the autopsy report, Freya was the last one to die.. She just turned 12..."
Nate:"They made her watch?"
Yuto:"Something like that would definitely cause a lot of psychological damage, along with a strong subconscious resentment towards street outlaws…"
Hailey:"So that's the trigger…"
Whisper:"Well it's great that we solved her backstory, but it doesn't take away from the fact that we still have no idea where she is!"
Whisper ranted.
Yuto:"Before getting admitted to the mental hospital, she tried to attack another outlawed gang in Spirit's Corridor, right?"
Blizzie:"Yeah, but no souls were reaped.."
Yuto:"Then she does have some unfinished business there, that might be where she's headed next. Blizzie, where did that attack take place?"
Blizzie:"Right! H-hold on, I'm sending it to Whisper's GPS."
Everyone then turned to look at Whisper who was already looking at the map on his Yo-Kai pad.
Whisper:"Right! Uh.. that way!"
Whisper pointed in a specific direction before floating off that way. The others followed quickly until Whisper suddenly halted.
Whisper:"Wait no, maybe it's that way?"
He said, pointing in another direction and floating off that way, only to halt again.
Whisper:"Wait, maybe I'm supposed to tilt it this way.."
He said while tilting his Yo-Kai pad in a few different positions.
USApyon:"We're not getting anywhere!"
Nate:"Oh give me that!"
Nate said, snatching his Yo-kai pad before examining the map for himself.
Nate:"It's a few blocks east, c'mon!"
He said as he started running into the general direction of the scene, eventually heading into the slummier parts of Spirit's Corridor.
Nate:"We're almost there, keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.."
Whisper:"Nate, I do have to advise you, I remember Blizzie aforementioned this is outlaw gang territory, we could get into serious trouble if we don't-"
Before finishing his sentence, both Nate and Whisper bumped into 2 large raggedy clothed Yo-Kai, both with over-the-top spiky hairstyles. Whisper saw who he'd bumped into, and quickly flew away out of their sight before they could see him. Unfortunately, as a result, when both of them turned to face whoever had bumped into them, they only saw Nate and Hailey.
Gangbanger 1:"Who do you think you're bumpin into, punks?!"
Nate quickly dropped the Yo-Kai pad on the ground and kicked it, causing it to slide over to Katie and Yuto, whom the gangbangers did not see.
Gangbanger 2:"Looks like we gotta teach these fools to not mess around in our turf."
He said as they both started cornering Nate, Hailey and USApyon into an alleyway with a dead end. Hailey gestured her head to the side as a signal to Katie, Yuto, and Whisper to just keep going. Katie then picked up the Yo-Kai pad and they did so reluctantly.
Nate:"So.. I'm assuming you don't have any tricks up your sleeve?"
Hailey:"Nurp.. We might be out of options here.."
Nate then reached into his pocket and pulled out his most trustworthy medal.
Nate:"Come on out my friend! Calling Jibanyan!"
Summoning Charming: Jibanyan!
However, the red cat Yo-Kai seemed to be in his own world. He was passionately dancing around with eyes closed, holding glow sticks and a headband. Everyone watched the cat in confusion, until he opened his eyes.
Jibanyan:"I… Oh wha- again?! what the heck, Nyate?!"
Nate:"Ah.. Right, that Next HarMEOWney concert was today, wasn't it?"
Nate said as he put his hand on his neck, diverted his eye contact and cringed at himself for forgetting.
Jibanyan:"I can't believe you! This is the third concert you've ruined for me! You owe me triple, now!"
Nate:"Look man, I-I'm really sorry but we're in a really bad situation, right now, I'll pay you back, I promise!"
Nate said, pleading with Jibanyan. The cat Yo-Kai then turned around to see the 2 large figures inching closer. He instinctively took a step back in a panicky stance.
Jibanyan:"These guys are huge! Why'd you summon me for this?!"
Nate:"I-I don't know, It's just.. It feels right."
Jibanyan sighed at Nate's reasoning.
Hailey:"Hey, I'm sure the 4 of us can take them!"
She said as she put her hands up in a fighting stance.
Nate:"What?! Hailey, we don't know how to fight!"
Hailey:"Well sometimes you just gotta wing it!"
Nate sighed and put his hands up as well.

Katie was rapidly looking back and forth between the map on the Yo-Kai pad and the streets while running with the others, nervously making sure they were going in the right direction.
Katie:"Wait.. I-It's this way!"
She turned to another dark and dingy alleyway that split into different narrower alleyways.
Katie:"Well, this is it.. I don't know where to go from here.."
Whisper:"Excellent! May I have my Yo-Kai pad back?"
He said before Katie gave him his Yo-Kai pad.
Whisper:"I better not see a single scratch on it, especially after Nate kicked it!
"
Yuto:"We might not have that much time, maybe we should split up."
Whisper:"What!? May I remind you, this is-"
Katie:"Good Idea."
Whisper:"You weren't even listening to me! H-Hey!"
He said as they both started hastily walking in different directions. Whisper panicked as he unsuccessfully tried to convince them to stick together. As they started walking further and further, Whisper nervously tried to choose who to follow, eventually choosing to stick with Katie.

Jibanyan let out his big battle cry as he lunged himself at the 2 large Yo-Kai with his soultimate attack.
"Paws of Fury!"
He yelled as he unleashed a barrage of punches on the Yo-Kai. Nate picked up a wooden board that was lying on the ground and kicked the inside of his right leg, causing him to lower his body, giving Nate the opportunity to hit him across the face with the board. The other one tried to swing his fist at Hailey, which she ducked under, causing it to hit the wall, she then punched the Yo-Kai on the stomach, which didn't do anything except hurt Hailey's fist.
Hailey:"Ow! Geez! What are those things made of?"
She said while shaking her hand out of pain. The other Yo-Kai managed to grab Jibanyan by the tails during his soultimate move and hurled him at Nate, causing them both to fall.
Hailey:"USApyon! a little help, please!?"
USApyon:"Right away!"
He then took his blaster and fired multiple shots, all of them missed due to the commotion of the fight.
Hailey:"You missed! How could you miss them when they're this big?!"
She yelled, frustrated while
USApyon:"I'm tryin'!"
He yelled as he kept shooting, only to keep missing.
Hailey:"Oh for god's sake, you're a horrible shot!"
USApyon:"Watch it!"
Hailey:"Who the heck even gave you that blaster? My grandma could do better than that!"
USApyon:"You little-"
The insults hurled at him only added to his frustration, up until he let out an aggressive growl as he pushed the 2 buttons on his spacesuit.
Invader Mode!
Hailey:"Now that's more like it!"
She said as USApyon started firing his blaster more rapidly at the Yo-Kai's general direction, partially blinding them and making them lose their balance. Nate then picked up the board again and hit one of them on the ribs so hard that the board broke in half causing him to grovel in pain while Hailey grabbed the lid of a trash can from the end of the alleyway and threw it at the head of the second one like a frisbee, knocking him out.
Hailey:"Nothing personal, fellas!"
She yelled as she along with the others ran away from the alleyway to catch up with Katie, Yuto, and Whisper.

Whisper:"Listen Katie, you can't just stroll in all willy nilly in an area dominated by outlaws! Let's just wait for the others!"
Whisper said as he tried to convince Katie to go back, whom wasn't listening to him. Suddenly, there was a loud noise coming from a small wire fence along with some flying debris. She immediately ran over and tried to barge it. However, when she got through, she was greeted by a thorn-covered extending rose vine shooting straight at her, only to stop a few inches from her face. Whisper immediately hid around the corner and used his Yo-Kai pad to call emergency services. The stem extended from the head of a female Yo-Kai, her hair was in the shape of a blooming flower but was dreadfully Yo-Kai had other long vines wrapping around and hanging outlawed gang members by the legs and some were wrapped by her around the stomachs. She looked at Katie with a piercing stare, parts of her body were covered in thorns and some of her skin was wrapped in vines.
Eerie Tribe: Skitzo-Freya
Katie gulped as she put her hands up besides her head.
-Flashback-
Yuto:"People experiencing a psychotic break tend to lash out under stress, do NOT in any way provoke them or agitate them. show that you're not a threat, and try to gain their trust… I know this might sound hard but.. Try to sympathize with them."
-End of Flashback-
Katie took a deep breath before speaking softly.
Katie:"Hi, Freya, m-my name's Katie.."
SF:"H-How do you know my name?!"
Katie:"I know a lot about you."
She said while taking a step forward. The Yo-Kai then extended 2 more thorn-covered vines and directed both of them at Katie.
Katie:"I'm not here to hurt you."
SF:"Is that a Yo-Kai watch? T-take it off!"
Katie:"Alright, alright.. I'm doing it.. See?"
She said as she slowly took off her watch and carefully crouched down and set it on the ground.
Katie:"Listen, you don't wanna do this. You've got a lot on you, just give all those souls back and everything's gonna be fine."
She said softly as she took a few more steps closer.
SF:"I don't.. Want to! Not until I remember what happened to me!"
Katie:"I know you do, Freya. Just.. Put them down and I can help you.."
SF:"What makes you think I'll believe you!?"
Katie took a deep breath and looked the Yo-Kai right in the eye.
Katie:"You just turned 12 at the time. You went out with your parents to the mall to celebrate. They had it reserved for you at a restaurant venue."
The Yo-Kai then loosened her grip on the gang members as the story seemed strangely familiar.
Katie:"You left in the afternoon, the sun was about to set. When you were going home, a bunch of bad people cornered you and your parents, they squeezed them for money, jewelry, everything."
Upon hearing the story, the Yo-Kai completely loosened it's vines and let go of her potential victims, only to fall to the ground and hold her head tightly as the violent memories started to kick in.
Katie:"In the end, they still beat them senseless.. And you had to watch. You probably tried to scream for help but.. They ended up coming at you too."
The Yo-Kai then stopped moving for a while, contemplating everything she'd done, breathing heavily before eventually tears started falling.
Katie:"I know it wasn't your fault, when you arrived here, you ended up attacking Yo-Kai that reminded you of them but you didn't know why."
She said as she slowly put down her hands and comforted her.
Yuto:"Hey! I didn't find anything down my way, did you-.. oh."
Yuto said as he barged through the wire fence. Soon, Yo-Kai PD eventually arrived because of Whisper's call. After Whisper and Katie's explanation, along with Freya's confession, they took her along with the criminal gang members in custody. Nate, Hailey, Jibanyan, and USApyon eventually arrived at the scene as the officers were cleaning up.
Hailey:"Woah.. What happened?"
Yuto:"Well, Katie was able to stall her enough for Yo-Kai PD to get here, nobody got really hurt, thankfully."
Nate:"You did?"
Katie:"Yeah, thanks to Yuto's advice!"
She said as she got down to sit on the ground leaning against the wall.
Katie:"Man, that was scary.. I could've died.. I guess we should've waited for you.."
Hailey:"Still, You two were awesome! We wouldn't have solved this case if it weren't for you, I'm sure you'll get really good at this in no time!"
Yuto:"Well, I'll be looking forward to it."
Nate:"So, you guys wanna head back to the office?"
Katie:"Yeah! I could use a bit of rest…"
-hard cut-
Hailey:"Found it!"
Hailey said as she grabbed her Sailor Cuties DVD set, she took out the first one and showed it to Yuto.
Yuto:"Well, it's uh.. It's very.. Colorful.."
He said, looking at the cover image of the anime.
Hailey:"So, you ready to watch this bad boy?"
She said while waving the DVD in front of him.
Yuto:"Sure, why not?"
He said while shrugging. Hailey excitedly put the disc into the DVD player and turned the TV on.
Hailey:"Okay, so this show is about three magical space girls protecting the galaxy from evil! Trust me, you're gonna love it!"
Yuto:"Sounds pretty straightforward."
-The next day-
Yuto and Hailey had arrived at the office early to continue watching the show where they'd left off yesterday. They just finished watching the 7th episode.
Hailey:"Man, I forgot how cool this episode was!"
Yuto:"Huh, the plot's a lot more intriguing than I expected… I didn't think it'd be such a fun show!"
Hailey:"Right? Oh yeah, in the next one, they-"
Yuto:"Hey, no spoilers, c'mon."
Hailey:"Aha sorry! You're right, you're right.."
USApyon:"Great. Now there's 2 of them."
Katie:"Looks like you two got here early!"
Katie said in a playful manner as she walked in through the warp door right before Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan.
Yuto:"Yeah, I uh.. I wanted to continue watching Hailey's show here.. It's better than I expected.."
Hailey:"Oh yeah, by the way, there's some mail for you! I put it on the desk over there."
Katie:"Huh, really?"
She said as she walked over to the desk. She then proceeded to open it and see what was inside.
Katie:"Hey, It's Freya's medal!"
She then read the letter that was addressed to her.
Katie:"Huh, It's from Yo-Kai PD, It says I'm permitted to have possession of her medal in exchange for a shorter sentence, looks like she was the one who requested it.."
Hailey:"Good for you!"
Katie:"Yeah, I'm glad all of this is gonna get sorted out."
Nate:"Something bothering you?"
Katie:"Yeah, It's just.. Freya was just a normal girl until all of this happened.. It just makes me wonder, you think something like that might happen to one of us one day?"
Nate:"Well, I.. Guess we'll never know.."
Author's Notes:
-So, first of all, I want to apologize for possibly misrepresenting a mental illness, although it's true that schizophrenics experience cognitive dissonance and hallucinations, the cause of it is a lot more complicated than just trauma (I did my research), And I did it to give this Yo-Criminal the name 'Skitzo-Freya' which isn't my best but, I do like it.
-I do wanna point out that in my version of the Yo-Kai world, Yo-Kai that rise from dead humans get to choose whether to keep their human name or change it, because it makes writing this fic a lot easier.
-I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is probably the very last chapter of this fic, or at least, in a really long time, mainly because I'm gonna be moving back to boarding school because everyone's already gotten vaccinated sadly.
-So yeah, i really hope you enjoyed it, although it wasn't that long, I don't really know what else to say.
