The group gave Violet nicknames, she seemed unfazed by them. Though on the inside she hated them.
They had called her death, wolf in sheep's clothing, weapon, tool, and the devil. The only one that didn't call her that was Bucky, though he didn't really talk to her.
There were around 30 men, though they only had around twenty. Bucky had everyone move forward, though just as he was about to shoot. Violet jumped in front of him pushing his gun down and jumping the closest hydra soldier.
She was too fast to get hit with any of the bullets, having moved before it hit her. She would use the but of her gun and hit the weak spots just hard enough to kill them. She would sometimes shoot them, though she preferred to use her knives.
All her kills were quick, and efficient. Though she had their blood splattered on her, she didn't care. In the end she killed more and anyone, saving most from the sin of killing.
People walked past her as she just stood there staring at one of the bodys. Was she really just a weapon? A tool? She wanted to go back to Howard and Peggy, she grabbed her locket with both of their pictures in it. They were the first two people to treat her like another person.
"Hey Violet, we need to move," Bucky said, finally looking at her face. Loss was clear on her face, she looked home sick even if she didn't have a home.
"A-am I really just a weapon for war?" She said with so much hurt in her voice. Bucky finally realised she was just an abused child, forced to fight a man's war. He knew that the colonel wouldn't turn children into weapons, so it had to be Hydra.
Bucky sighed and reached forward and picked her up. Violet didn't even flinch or fight back as Bucky carried her. She stared at where she was standing earlier, not crying, clutching on tight to Bucky.
Bucky walked with the remaining soldier, carrying Violet wasn't hard. She was almost as light as a feather, as they walked on though the night. Violet almost fell asleep a number of times with the soft rocking from Bucky walking.
Though she finally fell asleep with Bucky reassuring her, it was the worst time too. They got ambushed, Violet woke up but by the time it was too late. She was ready to attack but a thick metal neck cuff slammed into her neck. Her hands were cuffed to as the enemy soldier took them to their base. She was the only one cuffed, and she knew why. They were taken to circle sized cells, Violet had her own separate one.
Bucky's was right next to hers, and he called out for her to see if she was ok. Violet was breaking herself out of the cuff she was given, while the people that didn't know her stared at her in confusion.
That was until Schmidt walked through the cell room and stopped in front of her cell. She stopped trying when she saw him waiting.
"How is America's little monster doing?" He asked her, her face was blank though she was not happy with being called a monster.
"I'm not a Monster" She said as she stood up,
"Your right, your a weapon, a tool of war, you're not domesticated, civilised. You follow orders" He said and with a flick of his hand guard came and opened the door. Violet fought the best she could with the neck cuff, killing about half the guards that came before one knocked her out.
As they dragged Violet out, Bucky felt something pull at his heart. He cared for Violet, like a big brother.
During the day he'd with the rest of the prisoners would build the hydra weapons, and at night he'd hope that Violet was alive and ok.
Day's blurred together, and soon Captain America was storming the building. Freeing all the prisoners, and saving Bucky and Violet.
As they walked out of the burning building and to the meet point, Steve held Violet close to him. Violet looked quite cute and peaceful when sleeping, it was almost unreal.
"She's kinda cute when she's sleeping" Bucky commented, looking at the small 14 year old. "She's less . . ." Bucky stopped trying to find the right word.
"Crazy? Weapon-like?" Steve asked, in his mind Violet was a crazy child that got turned into a weapon of some kind.
"Sad, Scared" Bucky answered, Steve looked at him and Smiled. Bucky had grown a soft spot for Little Violet. "She's so scared that she'd be a weapon, and sad to be away from the people that took care of her" Bucky said tapping her locket that was always around her neck.
"If they cared for her they wouldn't have us shoot at her during training" Steve said, he wanted to take things into his own hands. Take the little girl away from all this and have her live a normal life.
After a moment of silence Bucky spoke again, "you know, even with all the killing she did. She saved some people from the sin of killing" Bucky said. It was only another few minutes before they sat down around a fire.
They woke up the next morning to find Violet already awake. She was quiet the whole time walking back to the base. She stuck somewhat close to Bucky, thought she'd never engage in conversation with him for anyone else.
When they finally got back, Violet ran to Peggy and stood behind her. Peggy made sure she wasn't hurt or anything, though if she was she didn't show it. Although it was only seconds later that Howard came and stole her away.
As he fused over her, she said nothing. She sat straight up and stared as Howard checked her over, then told her she could go shower. She grabbed clean clothes and bathed, when she came back soldiers were still getting checked out.
She did as she normally did, recorded her experience of the last few months, read a book or re-read, and helped Howard and Peggy with whatever they needed help with. She loved the two, although her normal routine got ruined when Steve and Bucky came a few days later and asked her to be part of a group called the howling commandos.
Violet's uniform was a white dress with Navy detailing, per her request she had a hood. She had maroon boots and leggings, and her hair in the two dutch braids which were put into buns.
She had two 1'1\2'' foot long knives attached to her boots and a rifle with her. Most of the guys wouldn't talk to her until they found out that she was really just a child. They helped build her personality, she became close to Bucky especially.
They were going to take out another base, though before she could even take a step forward. Bucky stopped her,
"Look I know that I'm not as important to you as Howard or Peggy, but I want you to have this" Bucky said and handed her a box. She took the box and looked at it for a little while,
"Thank you James" Violet said with the best smile she could give, it had taken her those few years to finally make expressions. She was the only one that called people by their birth names, it had annoyed everyone so she had a few exceptions. She calls Steven, Steve and Timothy, dum dum. Though she was adamant on calling Bucky, James.
She opened the box and inside was a double sided pocket watch. She opened the watch and both sides popped open, on the first one was a picture of Bucky. The second side had pictures of the other howling commandos.
"I figured that you can always have us with you" James said with a smirk, Violet nodded and attached it to her little bag and put it in the bag afterwards.
"Thank you" Violet said again, this would be another one of her treasures. Her own personal items that she'd keep with her always. Her head snapped up at the sound of whistling, Steve gestured to the base. She nodded and ran forward towards the base.
Her knives were out in a seconds and she killed the hydra guards before they even realised anything.
She snuck into the base like a shadow, killing anyone she sees. She gets to the front door and unlocks it, the Howling Commandos and Captain America rush in shooting at anyone left.
She loved being with friends. It felt so weird to have people around her that cared so much for her. She loved it, she'd enjoy it although she'd never ask for it. Only accepting what was given to her.
She had her own little treasure chest. In it were the few books that were given by Howard and Peggy, her locket with Howard and Peggy's pictures in it, Her two knives that Howard had made especially for her since figuring out she was an expert with any weapon, and her newest one. The pocket watch that James had given her.
She wished her life of fighting with her friends would never end.
But she was wrong.
