Chapter 15: Tongue and Cheek
"Lucky you were there to help Kelly." Shane commented, after Dustin told them what had happened in Storm Chargers the previous night.
"Yeah well hopefully those boneheads won't come back," Dustin agreed .
"Your actions are noble Dustin." sensei voiced. "But using your ranger powers for everyday situations can have serious consequences."
"Sensei we fight Lothor's goons all the time." Dustin protested. "What's the big deal helping out a friend? "
"Hey, check this out." Hunter handed them a newspaper as he and Blake walked in.
"Our boy here's a celebrity!" Blake pointed at Dustin.
"Kelly must have told a reporter about what you did," Hunter reasoned. "It's all in the newspapers."
"Blue Bay seeing yellow," Tori read as she nudged the yellow ranger beside her.
"How cool is this?" Dustin chuckled .
"While the city has gotten used to the heroics of the power rangers," Shane continued. "This is the first time one has stepped forward on his own."
"Could this be a sign of things to come is yellow going solo?" Tori continued.
"That certainly sounds familiar." Rei noted and the Senshi turned to Minako. "Doesn't it? Sailor V?"
"Right, my stint in England." Minako muttered.
"Hey that's stupid why would I ever go solo?" Dustin objected, jabbing the newspapers with his finger.
"What's wrong with the computer?" Blake asked when the mainframe's notifications came on.
"I've been keeping tabs on some of the fan sites." Cam replied. "Yellow Ranger just got 15000 letters and counting."
"They're all for him?" Shane pouted.
"You sound so shocked." Dustin scoffed.
"It's jamming the systems." Aiko reported as she fizzled. "Dad, Ill be running preventive protocols right now." she told Came and vanished.
"Do me a favor." Cam glared at Dustin. "Next time you decide to become famous, tell your fans to send letters the old fashioned way. With stamps!"
"I'm worried about Dustin." Shane complained to Cam and the girls. "I mean all this attention is going to his head. And if it gets any bigger…"
"What?" Dustin walked in. "There won't be enough room in here for the rest of you?"
"Something like that." Shane snorted.
"I think you're just jealous and dude, green is not your color." Dustin stated.
"Well it is my color." Cam pointed out.
"And mine." Makoto added. "Besides, I think Shane has a point."
"Typical," Dustin snorted. "Everyone thinks I can't be right."
"This isn't about who's right Dustin." Tori stood. "It's about doing what's right."
"We are all pleased about getting the world's attention Dustin." Sensei mentioned. "But how you use that attention is what's important."
"Thanks for your concern but I think I'm doing just fine." Dustin said. "I gotta go. I have to take a call from my agent."
"Agent?" the girls chorused and blinked as Dustin left.
"We may have a problem." Shane sighed.
"That's not the only problem." Cam added. "I just lost all trace of Blake and Hunter."
"Dad, I've traced the thunders DNA," Aiko manifested. "They disappeared off the map here. And reappeared there." she materialized a screen which showed Slob Goblin chasing construction workers.
"Lothor's post monster general." Shane rolled his eyes as the group ran up to the genius pair.
"Must have gone postal on Hunter and Blake." Tori concluded. "Let's go."
"Well, looks like someone beat you to it." Aiko chirped. They turned back around to see Dustin standing in front of the monster.
"How did he get there already?" Rei wondered.
"Hey, he's the great yellow ranger, remember?" Shane retorted. "Of course he's there first."
"Seems he already let the attention go to his head." Ami sighed.
"Shane," Sensei spoke up. "I seem to remember that before you and Dustin were Rangers, you were good friends. It would be a shame to lose that."
"Special delivery!" the now enlarged Slob Goblin chimed. "How do you lick this, Rangers?" he entangled the Megazord with his tongue. "Are you tongue-tied?" he taunted and electrocuted the Megazord.
"Hold on, guys." Cam came in on the Samurai Star Chopper and blasted Slob Goblin to the ground with its lasers.
"Thanks Cam." Dustin nodded. "That was starting to gross me out."
"I hear that." Shane agreed. "He needs some major tongue straightening."
"My mother always said to brush after every meal, floss and never use your tongue on robots."
"Guys, while I'm loving the tongue jabs," Rei snarked. "Can we get this over with?"
"And I have just the Power Disc for this." Ami quipped. "Shane, I'm sending it over."
"Right on." Shane whooped, slamming Slob Goblin with the Power Stamp and forcing the monster to eject the stamps from his stomach.
A final blast from the Samurai Storm Megazord took out Slob Goblin.
"How was seeing your grandma?" Dustin asked as he walked in with the Thunder Rangers.
"She was so cool," Hunter smiled. "She's doing much better now as well."
"She wasn't even fazed by the monster attack." Blake added. "That's one tough lady."
"Hey," Shane called from behind them along with Tori He held up the paper. "Check it out."
"That's us!" Dustin stated.
"Front cover bro." Shane grinned.
"Hey the press did show" Dustin read.
"Fortunately they seemed to have missed the part where you opened your visors." Sensei commented.
"I agree." Ami nodded.
"I'm through being a celebrity." Dustin declared. "From now on, it's all for and one for all."
"It better be." Minako warned.
"Hey check this out." Cam pointed at the computer which showed Choobo wandered mindlessly around. "Seems not everyone shares the team spirit."
"Lothor actually forgot him?" Makoto echoed incredulously.
"Truthfully, I can believe that." Ami nodded.
