Lexie woke up late the next morning, reaching over for Mark. Her arm didn't land on a body. Instead it landed on the mattress. Frowning, Lexie peeled her eyes open, seeing Mark's spot empty on the bed. She rubbed her eyes as she began to wake up, suddenly remembering why Mark was not there.

Mark's pager went off early in the morning, which caused groans from both him and Lexie. He reached over to silence it, cursing as to why someone paged him when he wasn't working. Closing his eyes once again, he snuggled Lexie back against his chest. Moments later, Mark's pager went off again. Lexie grumbled against his chest, shifting her head onto the pillow next to Mark. "Why don't you call in?" she whispered, placing her cold toes against Mark's shins. Nodding, Mark reached over for his cell phone and sat up on the edge of the bed. She furrowed her brows in confusion as it sounded like Jackson's voice on the other end of the phone. The phone call only lasted a minute. Mark tossed his phone onto the bedside table and laid back down next to Lexie on top of the covers.

"Will you be okay if I run to the hospital?" he asked, stroking her cheek gently. "There was an apartment building that burned down, and there are hundreds of people being brought in," Mark explained, searching her eyes for any hesitation.

"I'll be fine," the brunette assured him, leaning forward to peck Mark's lips. "I'm just going to go back to sleep," she murmured, pulling the blanket tightly around her body. Nodding, Mark slid out of bed and went into the bathroom to get ready. He grabbed his scrubs out of the dresser and pulled them on quickly.

"If you need anything, page me right away. Okay? I don't care if it's busy there. I'll be back here within five minutes," Mark murmured, hovering his face over Lexie's.

"Okay," she smiled, leaning up to connect her lips to his briefly. "I love you, see you soon."

"I love you," Mark responded, shuffling out of the bedroom. He really didn't want to leave Lexie, but he knew that the staff at the hospital were overwhelmed. Jackson wouldn't have called him unless it was absolutely urgent. He paused, turning back around to look at Lexie's sleeping form. Mark couldn't believe that she was back in his bed. Being with her again, really being with her, was fantastic. She was perfect last night. He didn't leave an inch of her body untouched. His heart began to swell at the thought of Lexie's pleasured filled sounds and words from last night. Smiling, he made his way out of the apartment and to the hospital.

After lying in bed for several minutes, Lexie reached over to see a text from Mark.

There are so many more victims than they thought. Looks like I'll be here for at least a few more hours. Are you doing okay? I haven't heard from you and I'm getting worried.

Lexie laughed softly, typing in a quick reply.

I'm okay, just woke up. You do your thing, hotshot. I'll be here when you get home.

Lexie set her phone on the side of the bed before pushing herself to a sitting position. She cringed in pain, reaching down to rest her palm against her thigh. A smile crept onto her face as she realized what the pain was from. She sighed softly, pushing herself to her feet. Lexie grabbed a throw blanket that was discarded on the end of the bed and wrapped it around herself. She grabbed the walker and slowly made her way over to the closet. Her clothes were still packed in the bags placed outside the closet. Making her way inside the closet, Lexie grabbed one of Mark's Columbia sweatshirts and slipped it on over her head. She made her way into the bathroom to brush her teeth and get ready for the day.

The next couple hours found Lexie struggling to unpack her bags. It took her a while, but she was able to successfully get everything put away. She pulled on a pair of shorts, frowning when she looked down at her legs to see the scars. Lexie thought the scars were ugly, but Mark assured her countless times that it showed all she had been through and overcome.

She spotted a box near the front of the closet. Bending down, Lexie opened it up and peered inside. At the top of the box, she found a picture of her and Mark. She lifted it up, noticing that there were more pictures of the two of them below the one she had picked up. These were the pictures that were up before she had moved out. Smiling, Lexie made her way around the apartment, putting the pictures back up in their rightful spot.

Lexie began to feel fatigue take over her body. She wasn't tired; her body was just weak. Making her way over to the couch, she took a seat and flipped on the television. The news had on the story about the apartment fire. Lexie was shocked to see how large the building that caught on fire was. She understood why it was taking Mark so long. The girl began to miss Mark. He had been by her side for the last few weeks. It was strange to be alone and not with him. Lexie decided to shoot Mark a quick text.

L: I miss you :(

M: Miss you more. Are you doing okay?

L: Yeah. How are the patients doing?

M: It's bad, Lex. We're getting down to the last few so I should be home soon. Want me to bring lunch?

Lexie craned her neck, looking at the clock. It was already mid-afternoon. She figured that she would just wait to eat dinner when April and Jackson came over.

L: No, I'll wait for dinner. Can you pick up the ingredients on your way home?

M: Of course, babe. I love you, let me know if you need anything.

Lexie smiled, setting her phone down on the coffee table. She pushed herself off the couch and grabbed her walker to move into the kitchen. On her way, she heard a loud crashing sound out in the hall. Scrunching up her face, Lexie made her way over to the door. She opened it but didn't see anyone outside. Lexie knew she had heard a loud noise, even if there was nothing in the hallway to confirm it. Lexie crept out into the hall and made her way toward the elevators. As she passed by Callie and Arizona's apartment, she heard loud wailing. Her heart immediately began to pick up its pace, worrying that something may have happened to Sofia. She debated whether or not she should knock on the door to see what was going on. Going with her better judgement, Lexie advanced to the door and knocked. There was no response. She was going to start walking away, but she heard the loud crying pick up again. Standing outside the door, she realized that it wasn't a little kid crying; it was an adult.

"Arizona? Callie?" Lexie called, knocking on the door again. She heard her name being called out, and she placed her hand around the door handle, pushing it open.

"Arizona!" Lexie gasped, rushing over as fast as she could to Arizona. When the door opened, Lexie saw Arizona lying on the floor with tears streaming down her face. Her cheeks were red and fists were pounding into the floor. Lexie stood in front of her, unsure of how she was going to help her up due to the fact that she needed to use her walker for balance. "Are you okay?"

Arizona shook her head, pressing her lips together to try and keep from crying. Lexie reached out her hand for Arizona, and Arizona took it quickly. The blonde scooted herself over to the couch, which was only a few feet away, and leaned back against the furniture.

"Did you hurt yourself?" Lexie questioned. Another shake of the head came from Arizona.

"I-I fell," Arizona sobbed, tilting her head back in irritation. "Why did she do this to me?!" she screamed, causing Lexie to flinch. She had never seen Arizona like this-this vulnerable, this upset, this angry.

"Can you get up on the couch? I can examine you up there," Lexie stated, reaching her hand back out for Arizona. Arizona shook her head once again, placing one hand on Lexie's walker and the other hand on the couch. Using her one leg, Arizona pushed herself to a half standing position and slid back onto the couch.

"I'm fine, really. I just fell," Arizona assured the girl. Lexie didn't want to push Arizona, so she just nodded and placed both her hands on the walker.

"If you're sure," Lexie murmured, pivoting her walker. She began to walk toward the door when Arizona's hand reached out and grazed Lexie's arm.

"Do you want to stay for a bit?" she asked quietly, massaging her knee gently.

Lexie smiled small and nodded her head. She moved to take a seat on the couch next to Arizona and moved the walker to the side. "I was really sorry to hear about your leg… I-I'm so sorry, Arizona," Lexie apologized repeatedly, her eyes boring into Arizona's.

"Why're you sorry? You didn't make the decision to cut off my leg," the blonde laughed bitterly.

"No, but they took me first," she whispered, referring to the medics taking her first when they rescued them from the woods.

"Lexie, no," Arizona insisted, resting her hand against Lexie's lower arm. "That wouldn't have made a difference. Five minutes wouldn't have made any difference. An hour or two, maybe, but definitely not five minutes."

Lexie licked across her lips, looking down at her lap. "Okay," she whispered, threading her fingers through her hair.

"So, you were here, outside my apartment, which means you moved in with Mark?" Arizona asked hopefully, raising her eyebrows. She wiped off the remainder of her tears, smiling over at the girl.

"Yeah, yeah… I mean, Meredith brought over my things. I was just discharged yesterday. But, yeah. I'm living with him," Lexie grinned, a small blush appearing on her cheeks.

"You're blushing!" the blonde shrieked, not being able to stop her excitement. She thought that Mark and Lexie were the cutest together. She liked Julia, but she didn't think that she was meant for Mark. "How has it been going with you two?"

"Uhh, it's been… it's been good. I've been in the hospital for weeks, so it's not like we really could do much," Lexie shrugged, biting down on her lip. "But he's been so caring and amazing…," she gushed.

"How did talking to Julia go?" Arizona questioned, having missed all the gossip that loitered around the hospital. When the situation was happening, Arizona was extremely fatigued and lethargic, so she wasn't able to maintain conversation with her visitors.

"Umm, I-I…" Lexie began to stutter, unsure how she should respond to that question. "Umm, well, it," Lexie stopped, trying to pull herself together. "She came to see me… after Mark ended things with her. She said… she said that you and Callie find me annoying. That Callie wanted him to have nothing to do with me," Lexie explained, biting the inside of her cheek so hard that it drew blood.

"What?!" Arizona exclaimed as her face scrunched up in confusion. "I don't think you're annoying at all, Lexie," she insisted, resting her elbow on the arm of the couch. "Why would Julia even say that?" she pondered, thinking back to previous conversations Julia had with Callie. "Callie's not your biggest fan, but I think she harbors some secret feelings for Mark."

Lexie looked up at Arizona, surprised to hear her say that she didn't find her annoying. "You don't?" she asked, picking at Mark's sweatshirt. "I-I think you might be right about that. Honestly, Arizona, it hurts me so much that he slept with her when we were on our break. It gave him Sofia, so I can't be that mad… that's all he wanted in life. But the fact it was with her really, really breaks my heart," she revealed, pressing her nose into Mark's sweatshirt to inhale his scent. "I don't think that he has feelings for her, and I don't think Callie would ever sacrifice your marriage, but I do agree with you. I think she still has secret feelings for him. I just don't understand why she would be so involved in his person life is she didn't have any feelings for him."

Arizona listened to the girl, trailing her finger over the couch cushion. "No, Lexie. I really like you. I think you're the best thing that's ever happened to Mark Sloan. I didn't know the person he used to be, but I know who he is with you and without you. There's no doubt that he is a better person, a happier person, with you. As for Sofia… I get it. I was pissed they slept together. And I didn't know how I would accept a baby. It was something she always wanted, but I didn't. Sofia is the best, though. I'm her mom. Maybe not biologically, but I am her mom. She's one of the best things in my life," Arizona commented, offering Lexie a smile.

"Julia also brought up Sofia and was using her as a pawn. I felt like… like she was saying I hated or blamed her, which is absurd. How could I blame an innocent baby? She's the result of a decision they made. She's Mark's kid and that means she's important to me," Lexie stated. Arizona gasped when Lexie mentioned what Julia did.

"Wow, how low can someone go?" she questioned, shaking her head. Lexie shrugged, burrowing into Mark's sweatshirt. "It looks like you and me are going to be home for a while recovering, so maybe we can hang out?" the blonde suggested, looking over at Lexie hopefully. Lexie nodded eagerly, smiling at Arizona.

"Of course. Maybe Mark will agree to go back to work," Lexie mused, explaining to Arizona how attached he had been to her. Lexie stayed there for the next couple hours, talking with Arizona about anything and everything.

The two women heard footsteps rushing down the hall, which caused them to both look at each other curiously. "What the…?" Arizona started just as the apartment door swung open.

"She left! Damn it, Arizona! She…" Mark started, panic rising in his voice. As soon as he looked at Arizona, he noticed that Lexie was sitting next to him. Lexie's eyes widened at Mark's voice, not realizing how much of a scare she gave him. "Lex," he breathed, rushing over to her side. "Are you okay?" he asked, kneeling down on the ground and immediately wrapped his arms around Lexie's slim body. The girl slipped her arms around Mark's neck, rubbing soothing circles across the back of his neck.

"I'm okay, I'm sorry," Lexie apologized, nuzzling her head against Mark's neck. "Are you okay?" she questioned, pulling back to look into Mark's eyes. Her hands moved up to cup Mark's cheeks and she stared into his eyes. Mark nodded, burying his face into Lexie's neck and inhaling her scent. He held her for several moments before retreating slightly.

"I couldn't leave anyway, I can barely walk," Lexie teased, causing Mark to smile.

"Why are you here?" Mark asked once he had calmed down. Lexie glanced over to Arizona, tilting her head to the side as if to ask Arizona if she wanted her to tell Mark. Instead of answering, Arizona decided to tell Mark herself.

"I fell," the blonde deadpanned, to which Mark's head snapped in her direction. "I'm fine," she added quickly once she saw Mark's concerned face. "Lexie heard me and came over."

"You didn't hurt herself helping her up, did you?" Mark fretted. Lexie rolled her eyes playfully and shook her head.

"Nope, she got up on her own," Lexie murmured, offering Arizona a smile. "How was work? Was it nice to be back?" Lexie asked, turning her attention back to Mark. He affirmed that it was. Lexie smiled coyly, raising her brows. "So you'll consider returning to work?"

"Absolutely not," he replied without a pause. There was no way he was going to leave Lexie for hours at a time, at least five days a week.

"You don't have to go back full time," Lexie stated softly, lacing her fingers with his. "But it might be nice to work back up to being full time, maybe do a few hours every day," she suggested, squeezing his hand.

"Lexie and I talked, and thought we could hang out while you're back at work. That way neither of us will be alone. We can help each other out," Arizona explained, waiting for Mark's reaction. The man sighed, pushing himself to his feet.

"I'll think about it," he compromised, causing the two girls to smile. Mark placed the walker in front of Lexie, helping her up. She turned to look at Arizona once she had steadied herself.

"Will you be okay?"

Arizona nodded. "Yes," she assured the girl, offering her a smile.

"If you need anything, just call or text me," Lexie replied, slowly making her way toward the door. Arizona hummed in response to let Lexie know that she heard her. Mark held the door open for Lexie and waved goodbye to Arizona before the door closed. They made their way across the hall to their apartment and Mark held the door open for her. Once inside the apartment, Mark immediately took Lexie in his arms. He lifted her up bridal style so as not to hurt her legs and carried her into their bedroom. Setting her on the bed, Mark leaned down and placed his lips on hers.

"I was so scared you left me, Little Grey," Mark whispered, tangling his fingers into her hair. Lexie reached up and placed her hand behind his neck, pulling his face closer to hers. She traced her tongue across Mark's lips causing Mark to immediately open his mouth for her. She kissed him with as much passion as she could, letting her eyes slip closed as he applied just as much force back against her lips. Pulling back for air, Lexie smiled up at her boyfriend.

"I'm not going to leave, I promise," she whispered, hovering her lips over his. "We didn't fight, I wasn't mad at you. Why did you think I left you?" She breathed, running her fingers against Mark's jaw.

"I don't know, I just came here and you weren't here. I saw your phone on the table and I just panicked," Mark responded, letting his eyes slip closed. Lexie frowned, resting one hand against his shoulder.

"Do you not trust me?" She asked. Lexie didn't use an accusatory tone, but she needed to know.

"I do, I trust you. It's just… I almost lost you, Lex. You almost died on me," he whispered, shaking his head. "I'm scared every day that I'm going to wake up and you're not going to be here. I'm so, so scared," he gulped, gathering her in his arms.

"I'm here, Mark. I'm never going to leave you again," Lexie promised, resting her forehead against his. Nodding, Mark pressed her against his chest. When he pulled away, he stood up.

"Do you want to shower before we cook?" he questioned. Lexie smiled softly and nodded her head.

"Sure," she whispered, grabbing Mark's hand to help her stand. He smoothed his palms against her cheeks.

"I'll go start it. Are you steady enough?" He asked, ensuring she had her balance before he let go. Lexie nodded and started to slowly make her way into the bathroom. This would be the first time Mark would see her completely naked. She didn't let him take all her clothes off last night, and it was dark when they had made love. She didn't want him to see the bruises and scrapes that were scattered across her legs. Lexie didn't know the full extent, but when the nurses would clean them, she felt the pain shoot through her. Taking a deep breath, Lexie made her way into the bathroom.
