They meet at a coffee shop, even though MJ got the ok for two classmates to come over and study. To be honest she was a little surprised. It isn't that there is a no-boy rule, but there kind of is, because there have never been boys, and MJ doesn't want to find out what the boundaries are. Not yet.

So she ducks the issue, and meets Ned and Peter at a neighborhood place called Nora's. It's the kind of place younger high school kids hang out and order frivolous drinks, but it's close by and MJ likes it. When her mom's sleeping in the daytime after work, MJ comes here to read.

She pushes open the door and sees Peter already in a booth in the back. "I brought the map," she says, sitting opposite him.

They take off coats, order drinks. And while they wait for their order, and Ned, MJ unfolds the map. Peter slides onto the bench beside her to see.

She bought a better scale map. This one essentially only shows NYC.

"That's a lot of dots," says Peter.

"I cross-referenced it with my Bizarre Phenomena map and added more." She waits for him to question her but he just pores over the various coloured blobs. There's a key. Of course there is, because they are both students at Midtown Tech, and besides who makes a map without a key?

"I think I can add some more," says Peter. He takes out his phone and scrolls through a page of notes. "OK." He glances at MJ. "So, these are some of the times I've noticed stuff. When I'm out."

When he's been skipping school, obviously. She doesn't comment, just pulls out a marker pen in a fresh colour. "Go."

"You already got the bakery one, so ... " He reads out a street address.

She tracks it down and makes a blob. "What is it?"

"Don't laugh, ok. Personal downpour."

She does laugh.

"It's not funny! I couldn't get away from it."

"You could ... go indoors?"

"I was on a roof."

"Ok." A roof? "Next."

It's nice, working together like this, side by side in the booth, arms touching. He's funny and cute and she can bend over the map and smile and he can probably see she's happy to be here. And that's OK.

Soon they have completed the map and are gazing at it waiting for meaning to appear. Or rather, waiting for some other meaning to appear, because the meaning seems obvious.

The weather events and all the other weirdnesses center on the school. Their school.

It's too much to take in right now. MJ rummages in her bag to find money for another drink. Something flies out onto the booth table. Peter picks it up. "Oh. Thanks."

He's frowning. "That's... a strange thing to have in your purse."

MJ tucks the washed, but still blood-spattered, handkerchief back in her bag. "It's Spider-Man's," she says. "He lent it to me. On the bus."

"Oh yeah. The bus." Peter hesitates. "You met him. You spoke to him."

"For about two seconds. But he was pretty cool."

"You thought he wouldn't be?" Why does Peter look offended?

She wrinkles her nose. "I thought he'd be kind of a jerk. Like ... a lot of them. " At the last minute she veers from saying like Iron Man, because although he was ninety percent an asshole he's dead and he meant a lot to Peter. "But, yeah, he was ok. Actually he was kind of ...sweet."

Peter's expression contorts as if it can't decide what to do with this information.

"So I kept the handkerchief," says MJ a little defensively. "Don't worry. I'm not making a Spider-Man shrine in my bedroom. I just... well, I'll give it back if I see him again." She doesn't feel like explaining how rare a kind gesture can be. And there was something appealing about Spider-Man. He has flair. Of course, he is probably an oldster inside that suit. Who else carries a handkerchief these days?

Peter says faintly, "That's nice. -Where's Ned?" He picks up his phone, but just then Ned appears in the street outside. MJ and Peter jump up. "What happened-?"

Ned staggers into the coffee shop. His hair is standing on end. His clothes are frosty white. And he has an icicle on his nose. He looks like a cartoon sneeze.

Peter and MJ manoever Ned into the booth. "Are you ok? Talk to me, man," says Peter.

Ned says, "Localised thundersnow," and MJ takes out her marker pen.
