In April Teddy and Owen were sitting in the window seat cuddling and talking. They knew they should be doing laundry and house work but neither felt like it. Some days the laundry felt never ending.
"She's one soon," Teddy said.
"I've been here almost three months," Owen said.
"I'm putting the paper work in to keep you on Monday," Teddy said, "if you want to stay."
"I want to stay," Owen said.
Teddy scooted to the other side of the window seat looking at Owen.
"What do we want to do," Teddy asked.
"I want to stay and build our life," Owen said, "I like our time together. I want to be us."
"I like us," Teddy agreed, "our family. Our kids. I want to adopt Leo. I know you did that with Amelia, do we need to talk to her?"
"No," Owen said, "we might have to be in Seattle though. But it shouldn't be a problem."
"I thought we'd go see your mom the next time we get time off. I know you do in July when this contract ends and I applied for the same dates," Teddy said.
"You want to come see my mom," Owen asked.
"I love your mom," Teddy smiled, "I want to go see her. We've only seen Megan since we got together."
"My mom wants to come for Allison's birthday," Owen said.
"She should be here," Teddy agreed, "tell her to come. If you're staying, what do you want to do about the sleeping arrangements?"
"I have a six month lease on my place but I'm only there to sleep, we live here," Owen said.
"We do," Teddy agreed, "I'm here until the fall. I'm thinking you and Leo move in here and we live together properly."
"The kids," Owen asked.
"Share a room for a few months," Teddy said, "they're 1 and 2 it's fine."
"It will be," Owen agreed, "she's in her own room now."
"And sleeping through," Teddy smiled.
"When do we want to do this," Owen asked.
"Tonight," Teddy replied.
"Teddy," Owen said, "last time we did that."
"Allison," Teddy said, "we'll be careful."
"We both will be," Owen agreed
They liked their nap time chats while both children slept; it gave them time to connect as a couple.
"Move Leo's bed or go get a new one," Teddy asked.
"A proper kid sized one will fit in the kids room," Owen said.
"But not in the car," Teddy said, "that was to be fun for me not a family vehicle."
"It works for the four of us," Owen said.
"It does," Teddy said, "bigger might be more comfortable for hiking or road trips."
"I'm moving in," Owen said.
"You live here now," Teddy said.
"We haven't," Owen said.
"I know," Teddy replied, she looked nervous, "not since. That was the last time I did that."
"It will be amazing," Owen said, reaching for her, "you're a goddess."
"I'm nervous," Teddy said, hiding her face in his shoulder.
"We'll go slow," Owen said, "you tell me what's okay."
"Daddy," Leo called.
Owen went to stand up giving Teddy a quick kiss, "later my love. We'll figure it out."
"We will," Teddy smiled, "taking the kids swimming now?"
"We are," Owen said, "it's Saturday. We swim every Saturday after nap."
"We do," Teddy said, "farmers market and a walk, lunch, nap, swim."
"Sunday hike and lunch out," Owen said.
"I like this," Teddy said.
"Daddy," Leo yelled again from the pack and play.
"They'll both be up now," Teddy said.
"I've got the diapers you get ready for swimming," Owen suggested.
Teddy went to get ready to swim and she shook her head. They'd been swimming as a family for weeks going a couple times a week because it was a good workout for the adults and the kids liked the water. She wasn't sure why she was nervous. She had worn her bathing suit in front of Owen for weeks. But the idea of him in her bed of possibly seeing her naked. The way her body had changed with their daughter she wasn't sure.
Owen picked up Leo, "potty then change for swimming."
Teddy had followed him to get Allison, "we're trying to train him?"
"Daycare wants him to," Owen said.
"Because it's easier for them," Teddy replied, "he's not ready. I've been researching and he's not showing any signs."
"Cookie," Leo asked.
"We can go to the bakery after swimming," Teddy agreed.
"Swimming, bakery then dinner and a movie." Owen said.
"Dinos," Leo demanded.
"We can find a Dino movie," Teddy smiled. She was thinking of looking for dinosaur sheets for his new bed and she needed something less feminine for their room. Teddy had done the master for her it was her girly haven. Owen couldn't live in that.
"What are you thinking abou," Owen asked.
"Dinosaur sheets for Leo and new stuff for our bed that's not pink," Teddy said.
"Leave it until we move," Owen said, "I like your bed it's where we made our daughter."
"There's also the shower, window seat, couch and the floor in front of the fire," Teddy listed.
"So this apartment," Owen chuckled.
"We'll need to find something bigger," Teddy said, "I like the neighborhood but I can move as long as we can walk to work. I like walking."
"I like our walks," Owen agreed.
They finished getting the kids and themselves ready for swimming and walked to the pool. They splashed for hours in the warm water the kids bobbing in their life jackets Allison shrieking with baby giggles and Leo splashing his parents.
"Mommy splash," Leo said.
"Do you want me to splash you," Teddy asked, "or should we splash daddy?"
"Daddy," Leo said.
Teddy helped Leo splash Owen making him chuckle and splash them back. After the kids had enough swimming they quickly changed and made the walk to their favourite bakery to pick up treats for their movie that night.
Once the kids were both in bed for the night Teddy and Owen sat down with her ipad looking for a toddler bed that fit their space and they liked the look of for Leo. They agreed that they didn't want a novelty shape like a race car, something simple that could grow with him or one day Allison. They found one they liked that was a twin bed but low to the ground so the boy could get in and out himself. After a second movie, not animated this time, they decided to call it a night. They tidied up the few things out in the living room and Teddy went to change for bed.
Standing in the bedroom Owen hesitated, should he put his sweats on? Would Teddy be okay that he usually just slept in boxers. In her walk in closet Teddy was looking at her pajamas, what did she have that was cute and attractive? She wanted to look good but not too sexy. Not like she was expecting it. Finally she found a pair of pajama bottoms and a tank top that she felt good in, it was similar to what she had worn the night he had shown up at her door almost two years before. She was nervous and trying to calm herself, it had been two years, now they were back in her room, in her bed with their children in the next room.
Teddy kept a sweater wrapped around her as she went to brush her teeth, noticing Owen already sitting on the side of the bed in sweatpants but shirtless. Why was he in sweats? Was he doing that for her? They both knew what would happen that night. At least she thought that's what he wanted. She wanted him, she was nervous but that was okay this was there time. The two babies in the next room proved that, their family. Teddy brushed her teeth then sat beside him.
"Stop thinking Owen," Teddy whispered.
"Is this," Owen asked, "are you sure you want this?"
Teddy responded by kissing him and putting her arms around his neck to pull him closer to her. In seconds his arms were around her and she was straddling his lap. She knew this was fast ans she was sure he wanted her. How did he make her feel things no one else ever had?
Owen slid his hands down her back and under her tank top Teddy responded by pulling it off. He flipped them over so she was lying on the bed under him.
"Yes," Teddy whispered, "yes Owen yes."
He took his time making sure this was perfect. He heard the sounds she was making, Teddy was enjoying this. She wanted more she pushed him back to the mattress and got on top of him her nerves gone. This was Owen who she had loved for 20 years.
Laying in bed with her head on his chest she began to giggle.
"Why are you laughing now," Owen asked.
"Your in my bed, your living in Germany for me," Teddy laughed, "Owen Hunt is in my bed naked. And our kids are in the next room."
"You did this last time." Owen chuckled.
"Did what," Teddy asked.
"Laughed after the first time," Owen said.
"Surprise," Teddy said, "that might have been better than the first time."
"Waiting like that," Owen agreed.
"Focusing on us and building our relationship," Teddy said, "before you were in my bed."
"I thought this was our bed," Owen said.
"Our bed," Teddy smiled, "it's new to me."
"It's new to me two," Owen said.
Teddy rolled to face him, "you've been married. Twice."
"But no one was you," Owen said, "I should always have been with you. Your my best friend, my favorite adult on this planet."
"Adult," Teddy pressed.
"Three of you tied for favorite human," Owen said.
"Me and," Teddy asked.
"The kids," Owen said.
"I can share with the kids," Teddy agreed, "I'm making you share that honour with them two."
"Our family," Owen said pulling Teddy close to him. She sighed contentedly and cuddled into him.
"I love you," Teddy whispered.
"I love you," Owen echoed, nuzzling the top of her head and kissing her hair.
They quickly fell asleep in this position. Her in his arms. It was the first time they had fallen asleep together.
"Daddy, mommy," Leo's voice echoed through the apartment followed by Allison babbling for her parents.
Teddy startled awake hearing the kids and slowly slipped out of bed.
"Come back," Owen said grabbing her waist.
"The kids," Teddy said, "where are my clothes, I need clothes."
"Did we just fall asleep," Owen asked.
"We didn't just sleep," Teddy said, "but were still naked."
Owen got up and grabbed his boxers fro beside the bed, "I'll go you shower."
"Allison will want me right away," Teddy said.
"I'll bring her to you," Owen said.
"I found my pants and my top," Teddy said, grabbing them and pulling them on.
They went through the morning routine with the kids and got them dressed and fed.
Owen's phone buzzed on the counter with an emergency from work.
"Go," Teddy said, "the kids and I are fine."
"I'll be back as soon as I can," Owen promised.
"We're fine," Teddy said, "I'll do the laundry and then we'll go to the park and maybe go for a treat at the bakery."
Owen quickly threw his uniform on and ran out the door to the hospital. Teddy finished tidying up and put both kids in the double stroller.
"Go see daddy," Leo asked.
"We're going to play at the park," Teddy said, "Park then cocoa and a cookie?"
"Ginger cookie," Leo said.
"You can have a ginger bread cookie," Teddy agreed.
Walking along the street Teddy was greeted by many and stopped to talk with those she knew.
"Helping Major Hunt out," a young nurse said, seeing Leo in the stroller.
"They're our children," Teddy said, "Leo and Allison."
"They're beautiful," the nurse said, "that red hair."
"Their dad," Teddy said, "Owen is a redhead."
"Owen," the nurse asked.
"Hunt," Teddy replied, "we should get going Leo is anxious to get to the playground."
"Enjoy your Sunday Ma'am," the nurse said.
"You as well Kelsey," Teddy smiled. She resumed pushing the stroller towards the park and took Leo out as soon they got there. He ran for the climbing equipment and soon found other kids to play with. They finished their trip to the park and picked up treats at the bakery before going home. Once the kids were down for a nap Teddy's ipad buzzed.
"Megan," Teddy beamed seeing her friend on the screen.
"Teddy," Megan said, "how is Allison?"
"Both are napping," Teddy smiled, "I just got them down and was going to make myself a cup of tea."
"Owen isn't answering," Megan said.
"He got called in," Teddy said, "interrupted a perfect morning."
"Perfect," Megan asked.
"He's moving in," Teddy said, "him and Leo."
"About time," Megan said.
"We can't all be you and Riggs," Teddy quipped.
"I thought more was going on in Zurich," Megan said, "I wanted to give him a heads up mom flies out tonight."
"Good," Teddy said, "so she''ll arrive tomorrow."
"She flies into Frankfurt and has a few hours she should get to you around 5:30 your time," Megan said.
"What time does she land," Teddy asked.
"I don't know just be home," Megan said.
"So both apartments spotless and a good mom approved dinner," Teddy asked.
"Happy kids," Megan said.
"Their good kids," Teddy said.
"They were when we saw them," Megan said, "I've sent Allison's birthday present and a care package for the four of you. Owen wanted peanut butter cups and pancake mix."
"Thank you," Teddy replied, "I'm sending something tomorrow for Faroke's birthday and Nathan's."
"Teddy," Megan said.
"Were family now I guess," Teddy said.
"You were always family," Megan said, "this might be a you question anyway. Faroke and Nate want to visit once school is out mid June."
"Come," Teddy said, "we'll still have the second place even though it makes no sense. Come spend two weeks and use it as your base."
"Can I book it and let you know," Megan asked.
"Of course," Teddy said, "the three of you for two weeks mid June. Do you want to teach a bit while your here?"
"Vacation," Megan said, "bring me out on a work trip to teach."
"I'll arrange that for the fall then," Teddy said, "we have three weeks at the end of July and I'm thinking half with your mom and half with you. Take the kids to Disneyland."
"Come for sure," Megan said, " beach days and margaritas on the deck."
"That sounds good," Teddy agreed.
"Altman " Nathan said sitting down beside Megan.
"Riggs," Teddy answered, "how are you?"
"Good," Nathan said, " enjoying a weekend off. Where are Owen and the kids."
"Work and napping," Teddy said, "nap time is sacred."
"I can imagine," Nathan said.
They chatted for a while longer catching up before Faroke came in yelling that he had fallen off his bike amd was bleeding. After nap time Teddy texted Megan to see if Faroke was okay after his fall. She was told the tween was overreacting to something that just needed a bandaid.
Owen came in just before dinner time, he smiled seeing Teddy sitting on the floor with the kids playing with blocks. She was showing Leo how to stack them while Allison crawled around on the floor. Allison crawled over to Owen as he hung his uniform jacket on the back of a chair, he scooped up the baby.
"Hi princess," Owen said, swinging Allison into the air.
"Leo who's home," Teddy asked.
"Daddy," Leo yelled running over.
Teddy followed the toddler over to give Owen a quick hug. He gave her a peck as she took Allison from him.
"I could get used to this," Owen smiled, "the kids running over and you here."
"Next time it'll be my turn," Teddy smiled, "but dinner is almost ready."
"Dinner," Owen asked.
"I'm not as good as you but baked pasta," Teddy said, "enough for lunches tomorrow and maybe Tuesday."
"Two lunches," Owen said.
"One for each of us and probably two for the kids," Teddy said, "Megan tried to call you and couldn't so she facetimed me."
"I have four missed calls from her," Owen said.
"Your mom is on her way now," Teddy said, 'she'll be here in 24 hours."
"Panic clean," Owen said.
"I deep cleaned while the kids napped," Teddy said, "your place? Your mom doesn't know about us. She's going to kill me. You've moved in."
"Teddy it's you my mom adores you," Owen said, "she won't be upset."
"Does she know we're dating," Teddy asked.
"She does," Owen said, "her response was about time."
"She's going to be so mad at me," Teddy said.
"She'll want an explanation from you, not me or Megan but she'll understand and forgive she's mom," Owen said.
"Whats with your family just appearing at my door," Teddy asked.
"Me, Megan, mom," Owen said.
"Your still the best surprise," Teddy said, "I am going to miss our notes with you moving in."
"I'm sure we can still pass notes," Owen smiled, "I'll just have to find new places to hide them."
"I need to clean out the closet," Teddy said, "too many clothes."
"I dont have many here," Owen said, "just what you've seen. Most of our stuff is in boxes at moms until I decided what to do."
"We'll go though it when we visit I guess," Teddy asked, "you need your clothes."
"I have what I need and can buy new stuff that fits in here," Owen said, "Leo will have out grown all of his and I sent his favourite toys over and we've bought toys for both."
"You must have other sentimental things," Teddy said.
"Not that I need here," Owen said, "how long are we thinking here?"
"I had told myself I would try to go back the summer before Allison starts kindergarten," Teddy said, "so maybe three years and go back before Leo starts school?"
"Three years," Owen said, "Seattle?"
"Then be done with the army," Teddy asked, "but where would we go?"
"Grey Sloan would never say no to us," Owen said, "you heard Bailey."
"There could be military positions in that area," Teddy said, "it's three years away a lot can happen."
"We could get married," Owen said.
"I know that's your pattern," Teddy said, "meet, fall in love propose. Not this time. We're going to date, and live together and be our family."
"They say to marry your best friend," Owen said, "what if I listened to that finally?"
"One day," Teddy replied, "it's a one day Owen. right now we need to feed these two little ones and get them to bed."
"Then get my place ready for my mom," Owen said.
"Use the baby monitor so we can both go," Teddy suggested.
"We could," Owen said, "do you mind helping it's in Okay shape. I'm really just there to sleep and shower."
"Do you have food," Teddy asked.
"Leo snacks and beer," Owen replied.
"We'll be fast," Teddy said, "and your mom can sleep there."
"That works," Owen said, "pulling the kids from daycare?"
"We just got drop off down," Teddy sighed, "no tears this week."
"I know so maybe not," Owen said, "but then mom will cook, and bake and fuss."
"Maybe they go in the morning and she can pick them up early," Teddy said, "Leo gets his preschool stuff in the morning all his letters and numbers and stuff like that."
"Doesn't Allison's group do their learning in the morning two," Owen said.
"She's not walking yet," Teddy replied, "the crawling baby group plays with toys, reads stories and the teachers sing songs and nursery rhymes."
"Maybe my mom picks up at lunch feeds them and does nap time here," Owen suggested.
"We can ask her," Teddy agreed, "I have a late surgery Wednesday. I don't go into the OR for this CABG until 5pm."
"Mom and I have the kids," Owen said.
The oven timer dinged and Teddy took the baking dish full of pasta, sauce and cheese out of the oven. Owen quickly set the table with everyone in their usual spots. The family of four ate dinner together, with the kids getting more sauce on themselves than in their mouths.
"I'll do baths and bed you go clean," Teddy said.
"Meet back here after," Owen asked.
"On the couch," Teddy agreed.
Thoughts? Reviews? How will Evelyn react? What will she say to Teddy?
