"Mom, what's trick or treating," Leo asked.
"You wear your Halloween costume and we go to other houses in the neighborhood and get candy," Teddy said, "we've done Halloween at the base. You wear costumes and play games and eat candy."
"Can we go trick or treating," Leo asked.
"Of course," Teddy smiled, "and your siblings."
"Will you go," Leo asked.
"I'll dress up and walk with you but trick or treating is for kids," Teddy smiled.
"Can I be an army man," Leo asked.
"A soldier or an officer," Teddy asked.
"The colonel like you," Leo said.
"You can wear some of my insignia," Teddy smiled.
"Mommy can I be a ballerina," Allison asked.
"We can get a ballerina costume," Teddy smiled, "what about you Danny?"
"Elsa," Daniel shouted.
"We'll get you an Elsa dress," Teddy smiled. She worried about Daniel's love of princesses and wearing tutus to daycare. He was happy and being himself and they wanted that for him but the way other parents reacted to Danny worried her.
"Halloween costumes," Owen asked.
"Soldier, ballerina and Elsa," Teddy smiled.
"You look worried," Owen said, "did something happen?"
"Just a comment at daycare," Teddy shrugged, "he went as Belle today going to the ball."
"He's happy," Owen said.
"What if people aren't kind," Teddy asked.
"We will be and he will learn to love himself," Owen said, "plus hes 2. At 2 Leo would only wear superhero costumes."
"He did," Teddy agreed, "Allison was in pjs because we were home. Have you heard from Meg?"
"No," Owen said.
"I miss seeing them everyday," Teddy said, "having friends."
"It's hard," Owen said.
"But you knew most of the people we work with," Teddy replied, "my friends when I was here years ago are gone. Arizona and Callie are in New York. There's Bailey but we weren't close."
"Grey, Shepard, Wilson, Deluca," Owen suggested.
"Amelia is okay," Teddy said, "as a friend and having the kids get together with Scout is good but I don't know."
"She's my ex," Owen said.
"Exactly," Teddy replied, "you almost adopted Leo with her."
"Teddy," Owen smiled, "it's okay. We're okay. Don't not make a friend because you think it'll bug me. You need friends two. I miss Avery, Shepard, Sloan and two of them have been gone for 10+ years."
"That was fun those couple years," Teddy smiled, "the first time I was here."
"It was," Owen agreed.
"Would you have imagined this then," Teddy asked.
"Never," Owen replied, "Teddy are you okay?"
"It's an adjustment," Teddy said, "I was in Germany for so long. The longest I've ever lived anywhere."
"What do you need," Owen asked.
"More time," Teddy said, "make some friends. Maybe theres some moms at school. It's been a long time since I've really had girlfriends."
"Before Allison," Owen asked.
"Yes," Teddy answered, "I want to see Arizona soon."
"Let's invite her out to visit," Owen suggested.
"Callie and Sophia," Teddy asked.
"The whole family," Owen agreed, "only Arizona has met Leo and Allison."
"They should come visit," Teddy said, "we have room for them to stay?"
"The basement," Owen said.
"I haven't done the guest room yet," Teddy said, "but I invited Max for Thanksgiving. We're not going to Meg's until Christmas."
Teddy's phone rang.
"Megan," Teddy greeted, "how did today go?"
"Boys," Megan squealed, "two boys, probably identical."
"Identical boys you'll have your hands full," Teddy teased.
"Boys," Owen asked Teddy who nodded.
"Pass me to the dumb dumb," Megan demanded.
Teddy handed Owen her phone.
"Congrats," Owen greeted.
"Can we talk about names," Megan asked.
"Isn't that a Nathan conversation," Owen asked.
"We've been talking names for weeks," Megan said, "I want to name one of the boys after dad."
"James ," Owen said, "it's Danny's middle name but go for it."
"Will Teddy mind," Megan asked.
"She wont," Owen said, "James and?"
"Jonathan for Nathan's dad," Megan replied.
"Ready for chaos," Owen asked.
"We are," Megan said, "are you okay that we'll have more kids than you?"
"I'd do one more but Teddy says absolutely not," Owen said.
"Listen to your wife," Megan said.
"I like calling her that," Owen said.
"I don't know what's happening with us but we have 2 kids and 2 on the way," Megan said, "I don't think he likes settling down."
"It's time we all do," Owen said.
"It is," Megan said, "how's Leo doing at school?"
"He loves it and is begging to go trick or treating but it's still a week away," Owen said.
"He'll love it," Megan said.
"They will," Owen said, "Teddy even wants a costume."
"Have fun dad," Megan teased.
"We will," Owen said before hanging up.
Teddy was finishing up making dinner.
"Mom, can I help," Leo asked.
"Always," Teddy agreed.
"What can I do," Leo asked hopping up on the step stool.
"Salad please," Teddy said putting the stuff in front of him.
"Can I do the peppers and carrots," Leo asked.
"It's the big knife," Teddy said, "you can do the lettuce and cucumbers with the smaller knife."
Leo chopped the veggies he could.
"Leo do you want to mash the potatoes," Teddy asked.
"Yes," Leo cheered.
"Mommy can I help," Allison asked.
"Go put the plates and utensils on the table," Teddy directed.
Allison set the table as directed.
"Okay let's eat," Teddy said.
Owen came back into the kitchen with Daniel.
"How's Meg," Teddy asked.
"Good," Owen said, "she wants to use James. She knows it's Leo's middle name."
"Are you okay with it," Teddy asked.
"It was dad's name," Owen replied.
"She sounded excited," Teddy said.
"She is," Owen said, "so a week until Halloween."
"Pumpkin patch tomorrow," Teddy said, "I'll be a zoo but the kids have never been."
"Leo has once," Owen said, "I took him with Grey and her kids."
"It's a hospital outing," Teddy said.
"It'll be fun," Owen said.
The next morning they piled into the truck and Owen drove to the pumpkin patch.
"Hunt clan," Hayes called.
"Hunt-Altman," Owen corrected.
"Are you ready for the pumpkin patch," Hayes asked.
"Ya," Allison cheered.
Hayes asked, "so miss Allison, how big of a pumpkin can you carry?"
"Daddy will carry it," Allison said.
"You carry your own. That's the rule of the pumpkin patch," Hayes said.
"But daddy," Allison said.
"Your job," Owen said.
They all walked into the pumpkin patch and made their way to the corn maze.
"Stay together," Teddy said, "and stay with us."
They ran through the corn maze trying to find their way out. Laughing when they found every dead end in the maze. Finally they found the petting zoo on the other side.
"Mommy sheep," Daniel said.
"Dad can I ride the pony," Allison asked.
"We can have pony rides," Owen agreed.
They led the kids to the pony ride line.
Owen and Teddy stood at the fence with his arm around her waist watching the kids on the ponys. The kids giggled and laughed as they were lead around the ring.
"Can we get a pony," Allison asked.
"No," Owen said.
"Please," Allison begged.
"We can go riding another time," Owen said, "we don't have room for a pony."
They found the rest of their group and lined up for the hay ride to the pumpkin field.
Teddy settled Daniel in her lap while Allison and Leo sat on either side of her. Owen took photos of them on the hayride and in the pumpkin patch.
"Teddy," Owen asked.
"I'm good," she beamed, "this is what I wanted."
"Motherhood looks good on you Altman," Owen beamed.
"It feels good," Teddy agreed.
