Chapter 8: The Creator

Original A/N: Here's how my time was passed. I put up chapter eight. Smiled at all my reviews. After a week when the reviews slowed, and for the next several, whenever I passed my computer, I stared guiltily at it.. Finally, I decided I could be lazy no more. Before you say anything about this chapter's shortness, I want you to know that this chapter is just kind of an insert. A second chapter is coming, within the next two days. So don't worry. Enjoy!

At five o'clock, three people appeared on the left side of the sidewalk. Just as she had suspected. Laura grinned and pushed herself up from the couch she had been resting on for the past two hours. The cute boy was back.

Laura adored the game she was in. She loved the feeling of freedom and control. She had created the original spell, sending real people into the game she based upon a Muggle game she had loved playing. She had grown bored with the low stakes, and had wanted to push her limits with magic to see what she could do. Sure, the game she created still had some limits, but so far, it was turning out wonderfully. There were only a few glitches. For instance, she had to be careful when she left the world, because she found that sometimes, whatever you had when you left, you had in the real world. A cheese sandwich, for example, Laura remembered fondly. She had been eating one when she left, and still had it when she got out.

Laura had given herself the ability to act as one of the cursors, able to tell anyone that was already being told to do things by a third party, to do anything she wanted. Some resisted, of course, but that was what you got when you tried to play with freewill. Some people just were a bit more headstrong, even for her.

Sliding gracefully up from the leather couch, Laura walked to the door, where the three were finally reaching. She did wonder at how they had gotten in. She had only shared her spell with a few trusted friends, in order to start seeing others show up in the world. It was no matter. What happened in the game didn't truly happen in the real world, so there weren't any consequences she worried about. She just enjoyed having fun, and living different lives. Playing with the fake people in her game was fun for a while, but they weren't quite capable of true human emotion and reactions. Seeing this new group arrive, she saw a perfect opportunity to have a good time.

The two girls walked by her, barely even glancing at her. But the boy, he caught her eye. She let her control reach out to him, and was surprised to find resistance there. This boy seemed to have an unusually strong will. But she quickly regained her composure, and gave him her smile, which she had used many times before on others. She wouldn't worry, she would simply go about it in the old-fashioned way.

"Hi, nice to see you," Laura winked as she walked by. The boy paused for a second, startled, before he slowly walked away. Laura grinned to herself. Perfect. She knew she would have a good 'Life' this round. After all, she knew what she was doing, she had done this hundreds of times before. After all, reality seems inferior after spending moths in a perfect game of paradise, which could be replayed over and over.
