Avengers: Age of Ultron | Saviors | The Avengers Party
"We need to get you ready," Natasha says, looking up at Avery from the bed with an expecting look. She takes in what clothing the dark-haired woman wears, and frowns. "Oh, no, no way, you are not wearing that," she declares with a shake of her head, hating Ava's bad choice of clothing for the Avengers party. Natasha is already wearing her outfit and this consists of a knee-length black and white dress that conveniently shows some cleavage, her heels are beet red and her lips glisten with a cherry color.
Ava tilts her head, confused at why her clothing decisions are so terrible. "What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" She questions, looking down at the attire. She wears her usual pair of black jeans, a forest green tank top, and a black jacket. She has a pair of sneakers with it too and her hair is bundled in a ponytail.
Natasha raises an eyebrow, lifting herself from the bed where she waited. "What you're wearing…it's something you wear every day," she says, before tilting her head. Thinking to herself, 'What can I get her to wear?' She thinks. Ever since their talk a couple of days ago, there's been a mutual understanding between the two. Natasha has always wanted a girlfriend, so why not have Ava as one? They have a lot in common, they've been through a lot, and they've basically known each other for over twenty years. Besides, a friendship has to start somewhere, right?
"But…I like wearing clothes like this…" Ava speaks slowly, narrowing her eyes suspiciously at the redhead, trying to figure out what the woman is thinking. "So, again. Why can't I wear this? This isn't really a formal thing, is it?" The party just sounded like a get-together to celebrate getting the scepter back, why would you need to wear anything more than this?
Natasha rolls her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest. "Because…" She drawls, like what she's saying is going to be the most obvious point of all. "If you go to the party looking like I do, you'll have Bucky practically drooling. He'll be peeling your clothes off with his eyes," she smirks, finally getting a good dress idea in mind and she knows exactly where to get it. Lucky enough she has her own room in the tower for when the Avengers aren't able to go home. 'That dress will look perfect on her,' she thinks.
"No," Ava shakes her head, not liking the idea. "I don't like it."
Natasha gives her a hardened look, one that a mother would give to her daughter when she doesn't want to wear something specific. "Trust me, Ava," she counters. "You will."
Avery gives up quickly, sighing, knowing she won't win this fight. "Fine," she says, shaking her head. Maybe it would be nice to dress up? It's been so long since she last did, the last time was one a date with James back in 1939.
Yesterday was quite the day. After her breakdown in front of the boys, they asked her specifically where she wanted to go, knowing that it would be best to divulge everything in her head within a place where she feels most comfortable. So, she chose Central Park, and at her spot right by the lake overlooking nearly every part of the area. She talked, and they listened for hours. The two boys took turns giving questions, but sometimes she didn't say anything - simply because she wasn't able to think about it, let alone speak about it. And that was quite a lot of things. She mostly talked about all the killings she had to do and some of the things that were done to her, excluding the full details of course. No one's ever prepared to hear terrible things like those done to the person you love.
The three of them feel closer again and there isn't such a giant drift; there is still a gap, but it isn't so big anymore. Ava is slowly beginning to accept them back into her life, and they are doing the same with her. She was initially surprised about how the boys were actually taking her confessions, and even though the ones she said were terrible enough as it is - they are still with her, and that's more than she can ask for. She's starting to trust again after all this time alone, broken.
But the killer in her is still there, and it will never go away. Not even if she wished it to be, and maybe that's fine? It'll help protect people, that's how she can use her life now. So instead of killing people and following orders like she did in the past as Winter, she can start to be the old Avery Rogers again and save lives as the days go by. Maybe she can finally do some good in the world, maybe rid the red off her ledger as Natasha once described it.
Ava lets out a breath of preparation. "Let's do it," she says, determined to win her James back after breaking his heart the other day. Even though breaking up with him was for his own protection, he's made it very clear that he isn't going to stop coming after her no matter what - he still loves her, and he will never let go no matter what she does.
So, instead of fighting it, she'll run with it and see where this new path will take her. Maybe the road will lead to finally being happy again?
….
"Sounds like one hell of a fight," Sam exclaims, walking between Steve and Bucky, the three of them making their way up the stairway towards the balcony area. He's just being told about their recent mission to Sokovia; going after the scepter with the team of Avengers. "Sorry I missed it," he apologizes, but not really - he'd rather stick with keeping crime off the streets than fighting a fight he knows he can't win. Being The Falcon is good enough for him.
Steve chuckles, amused. "If we had known it was going to be a firefight, I absolutely would have called you," he says back, patting the man on the shoulder.
The three of them start their journey up the stairs.
Bucky raises his bottle of beer to the dark-skinned man. "We'll keep you on speed dial for next time," he promises, but he can see that Sam might not actually want him too. As they go further upwards, he glances around the room discreetly, trying to see if his special someone has arrived yet. And sadly, she hasn't.
"Oh, no!" Sam waves his hands up in a surrendering motion, his glass of vodka still held in one. "Forget I said anything, I'm not actually sorry," he chuckles nervously, hoping they aren't actually going to in the future. "I was just trying to sound tough. I'm very happy with my own secret missions, thanks. They finally get to the balcony. "Avenging is your world and your world is crazy." They stop at a glass railing that looks down at the party. People are bustling about, chatting away with each other like they are best friends in real life. When in reality, no one knows anyone else apart from the veterans that were invited as a celebration.
Steve couldn't agree more. "Be it ever so humble."
Sam looks between the two, taking a sip from his glass. "So, have you two found a place in Brooklyn yet with your girl?"
Bucky snorts, taking a gulp from his own beer. "Two problems with that. Today, Brooklyn is the most expensive place to live and I don't think Avery's ready to move away just yet. She still needs time to heal and here's probably the best place."
Steve hums in agreement. "Exactly what I was thinking."
"Well, home is home, you know?" Sam shrugs, giving his advice. He's happy for the two American heroes, they have their girl back and it's one of the things they've both dreamt of ever since her 'death.' It sucks that she didn't have her memories at first, but after finding out everything that's been going on, it seems like everything is finally falling into place.
Bucky nods slowly, understanding what he means. "Exactly," he says before starting to drink more of his beer, but almost instantly he starts to choke on it, his eyes widening with both shock and amazement when they catch a glimpse of someone standing next to Natasha just downstairs. "Oh, my god," he chokes out, not being able to think of any other words.
Steve looks at him suddenly concerned, patting him on the back as his best friend's breathing gets back to right. "Woah, you okay, Buck?" He asks, wondering what could have gotten such a sudden reaction from him. He turns to see what he could be looking at, and sees it - his own features show shock. "Whoa…" They are seeing Avery - their Avery, looking more beautiful and different than they've ever seen her before.
Avery wears a dress that has a white upper part with a small stomach cut out, and the skirt of the dress is black but the entire dress has a shimmer to it, it looks positively radiant on her. On her feet are a pair of raspberry-colored heels and there are silver and black bracelets wrapped around her human wrist. Her hair is perfectly curled with a side fringe and her makeup is light, not too bold other than letting her amazing hazel eyes pop out.
Bucky is startled into awe, he doesn't know of anything to say other than thinking, 'I really, really love that girl.'
….
Avery feels very self conscious all of a sudden, she can feel a lot of stares being directed at her but she tries to ignore them. "Natasha, I'm not liking this idea anymore," she tells the redhead. "I've never worn such a revealing dress like this before and what if he doesn't like it?" It's been a long time since all this nervous energy came to her; back before when she was dating James actually. She never tried too hard on her looks back then, and even as The Winter Soldier she still didn't. This is the first time dressing up like this is necessary.
Natasha's eyes flick over to the side, and she must have seen something pleasing because she grins like a Cheshire cat. "Oh no, he's loving it alright," she nods with anticipation, she gives Ava a comforting squeeze on the arm. "I'll be over at the bar, let me know how everything turns out." And before Ava can even open her mouth, Natasha has left out of sight. She doesn't even realize Bucky has made his way over to stand behind her as she glares towards the redhead running away.
"Ava?" Avery can't help but jump inside a little when he makes himself known, she twists behind her towards the voice and notices him there. He's wearing some black pants with a navy blue dress shirt and his black jacket. He was never one to get really dressed up for a party, it starts to make her feel a little stupid wearing this dress now. James is smiling at her, a small red tint forming on his cheeks. "You look…beautiful." Trying to find the best word to describe what she looks like, and to him she's beautiful in whatever she wears.
And for the first time since her memories came back, Ava feels her cheeks heating up as a blush forms on her own cheeks. She looks down for a moment but not able to stop the smile from forming on her lips, a giddy feeling in her stomach lurches and a sigh of relief fills her heart. After a moment, she finally finds her voice. "Thanks."
And for the first time since being back, she feels like she belongs, the horrors in her mind and the metal arm isn't bringing her down. Maybe she can finally try to move on from the past and make a better future.
She just hopes she's going down the right path when it comes to James; that she'll be able to protect him and Steve from herself if the time ever comes to it.
If something happens that she can't stop herself from doing…she wouldn't be able to forgive herself. She'd rather kill herself than let the monster inside rid the world of her two boys.
….
Further into the party, Bucky, Steve and Avery are standing with Thor and the veterans that stood alongside the American heroes during World War Two. It's safe to say they were shocked to see that Avery had indeed survived that fall but luckily none of them resulted in having a heart attack because of it. Each of them had their chance to fight alongside the woman back in those days and they are glad to see that the two American heroes now have their girl back - not exactly safe and sound, but she's back in their lives for good now.
Thor is in the middle of pouring a thin liquid into four different shot glasses from a small old container that's stuffed in his jacket. It's a very, very strong alcohol.
One of the veterans sees this. "I gotta have some of that," he says.
Thor immediately protests. "Oh, no, no, no," he shakes his head, handing two of the filled glasses over to Steve and Bucky first. "This was aged for 1,000 years-" he passes another to Ava who stands next to Bucky, their shoulders nearly touching. "In the barrels built from the wreck of Grunhel's fleet."
Avery takes a sniff at the drink and glances between the two boys, both are looking at the liquid with hesitation - probably wondering what would happen to them if they actually swallow this stuff. Thor continues, "It is not meant for mortal men." Throwing some alcohol into his own glass.
Bucky leans towards Ava, whispering in her ear. "Is he saying we're not human?" Gesturing to the glasses in their hands.
Ava looks over her shoulder, giving a huff of a laugh but rolls her eyes. "I think he's realized our tolerances are going to be a hundred times stronger than a normal human's." She shrugs to herself before braving up and chugging down the shot, the burning mystery liquid rolling down her throat. Both Bucky and Steve are looking at her curiously, wondering what type of effect it might have on her. But nothing happens and she sighs sadly. "Well, that was a blast," she mutters sarcastically.
Another one of the veterans gestures to her, seeing how Ava's looking perfectly fine, but they aren't counting the fact that she is technically a super soldier like Bucky and Steve. "Avery's fine so stop trying to scare us, blondie."
The first Veterans nods his head. "Omaha Beach wasn't meant for mortal men either. Come on, let us try some." He holds out his own glass. "Come on."
Thor raises an eyebrow, looking between his three fellow Avengers. All four of them are beginning to grin, all interested to see what effect it'll actually do to normal human beings, unlike them. "Okay," he nods, grabbing the shot glass from each of the elder men before pouring less than he gave to the other three. These men are still elders and human, too much won't be good for their health.
….
Later on Ava finds herself sitting at the bar, staring down at the bottle of vodka sitting in front of her, only half-drunk. And even after Thor's concoction, half of this bottle and more flooding her system, she still can't get drunk. It pisses her off, why can't she have a fun night of drinking and end up like a total fool like other girls her age, well, the age she looks, not her real one.
"Still trying to get drunk?" Bucky perches himself on the stool next to Ava, an empty glass in his hand, he too is seeing how much alcohol he's able to take. But like Avery, it seems like he can't get drunk. It is a side effect of the super soldier serum.
Ava scoffs. "Is it that obvious?" She questions sarcastically before taking another large swig from the bottle.
Bucky's lips quirk and wiggle his eyebrows. "You've always been that obvious to me, Ava," he says, reaching over to grab the bottle from her, pouring a large glass for himself. The two of them will never make a good example when it comes to beverage choices.
Ava huffs a laugh, shaking her head. "Quit flirting with me James. I might actually believe you're finally drunk." She leans her head against her metal arm, trying to imagine that it's a real one other than the mechanical one.
"Nah…" he shakes his own head, sadly. He's spent many days trying to get drunk in the past and none of them have succeeded, all he was left with was more pain. The first time was when Ava was declared dead, he wanted all his pain to go away, it's like he can barely breathe. "I can never seem to get drunk, no matter how long I drink for or how much."
Avery sighs, nodding her head. "It makes sense," she says, remembering back to when she was originally working on the serum back then, it was so long ago that it feels like a dream. "No country would have wanted their hero to be drunk on the job. The serum was probably purposefully made like that. For me…who knows?" She knows Hydra made the serum and everything else experimented on her…except what Dr. Zola said. Her father; she still doesn't know what her father has to do with any of this and that part slightly scares the little girl inside of her. She just isn't ready to open that can of worms yet.
Bucky looks at her face a little closer, he sees a hint of sadness in her features and her eyes are glistening with pain. "But you do know," he says bluntly with a knowing tone, he can always read her, even this new her it seems.
Ava places a hand on her head, her body sulking slightly with the tiredness of the subject and denial. "James, just...just don't," she pleads, shaking her head slowly, not wanting to get into her past right now. This part is supposed to be fun, but it's starting to seem like a drab more than fun.
"Alright," James reluctantly replies, knowing she'll reveal what she wants in time. The last couple of days have been hard enough for her as it is, especially after revealing so much yesterday.
"Here," he continues, raising his glass towards her. "A toast, to not being able to get drunk," he grins, raising his eyebrows - trying to get her to do the same. Wanting to make her feel better.
Avery looks at him for a moment before a smile does start to stretch across her lips, she grabs the bottle of vodka and clinks it with his glass. "To being sober throughout our continuous pain of life."
…
The party has cleared up and finished at 11 - over an hour ago; all the Avengers, Agent Hill, and Dr. Cho are sitting up on the balcony area upstairs. They are all sitting on sofas drinking alcohol and chatting; Ava can't help but enjoy herself more. She's sat next to Bucky, almost leaning into his side while a new bottle of vodka is in her hands now. Only a quarter of the way through but still, she's not drunk. She pretty much accepted that a while ago really.
"But it's a trick!" Clint exclaims. He's actually feeling a little tipsy by this point. Everyone is discussing Thor's hammer, how only he can lift it, but no one is believing him because no one has actually witnessed anyone else try to grab a hold of it.
"No, no," Thor shakes his head with a mystery grin. "It's much more than that." He passes the old bottle of the very alcoholized liquid over to Steve because unlike Bucky and Ava, he's really getting into the stuff - not that he's actually getting drunk either. But apparently it tastes nicer than vodka which is what the other two have opted to keep drinking for the rest of the night.
Clint snorts before changing his voice into a deeper one, pretending to be an Asgardian with his words. "Ah, whoever so be he worthy shall haveth the power." He rolls his eyes with a disbelieving look, waving his drum sticks around. "Whatever, man!" He exclaims. "It's a trick."
Over to the side, Ava notices how close Natasha and Bruce are getting as they talk to each other, they are ignoring everyone else but just talking and smiling. Ava can't help but think they'd look great together, Natasha deserves it.
Thor booms out another laugh before gesturing over to his hammer, sitting on a table that's strong enough to hold such a heavy object. "Then please, be my guest." He sets the challenge, too confident that no one will be able to pick up his mighty hammer. He has faith that no one in this room will be able to actually pick it up; call it, a godly instinct.
Clint looks at him with a raised eyebrow before glancing at everyone else. "Really?" He questions, not being able to help but be excited at the prospect of trying to lift this hammer. It's like that story with the sword of King Arthur, only he who is worthy can lift it from its stone.
"Yeah," Tony is interested to see where this will go - maybe he'll have a try himself?
Sam chuckles, taking a sip from his beer and leaning back in the chair. "Oh, this is gonna be beautiful," he says bemusedly, seeing Barton hop up from his spot on the ground before making his way over to the hammer.
Tony can't help but put in a comment, a dirty one. "Now, Clint," he says, smirking. "We know you've had a tough week so we won't hold it against you if you can't get it up." Ever laughs at this but Clint sends him a bitch face, not impressed.
Avery sits up straighter, honestly curious to see how this will go and when she glances at James, she can see he's thinking the exact same thing.
Clint gives Thor a look. "You know, I've seen this before." Thor just raises an eyebrow, nodding to his hammer with challenging eyes. Without a second thought, Clint quickly grasps the hammer and begins to pull up, heaving it but it doesn't move a single inch. The hammer just stays exactly where it is.
With one last grunt, he laughs at himself before pulling away from the hammer. "I still don't know how you do it!"
Tony smirks once again from beside Rhodes. "Smelling the silent judgement?" He teases.
Clint scoffs, irked now. He throws his arms out towards the man. "Please, Stark, by all means," he challenges the big headed billionaire.
Challenge accepted. Tony stands up from his seat, looking both confident and cocky that he'll be able to lift this hammer. He undoes his jacket button, clearing his throat before moving to stand in front of the hammer while Clint moves back to sit on his floor seat. "I was never one to shrink from an honest challenge." He slips his hand into the holder attached to the hammer, gripping the bar as tightly as he can. "It's just physics."
"Physics?" Banner repeats with a dumb voice, obviously not believing what the billionaire is saying.
Tony looks at Thor with a crooked grin. "Right, so-" he starts. "If I lift this, I then rule Asgard?"
"Yes, of course," he replies carelessly, nodding but not worried at all. He's sure Stark won't be able to lift his hammer - no one in this room can.
The smirk is more prominent on Tony's face now. "I will be reinstituting prima nocta," he says, and with that he places a foot on the table to help him lift and then he pulls. He grunts, the hammer not moving anywhere - just like Clint. There are snickers forming around the table from the other Avengers. Tony clears his throat, unhanding the hammer before taking his foot off the table. "I'll be right back," he says before leaving the room, leaving everyone to look confused as to where he's going.
….
Tony is pulling at the hammer once again, but this time with his Iron Man mechanical hand with thrust boosters attached to them. Even that isn't doing anything, the hammer stays exactly where it is.
….
This time, Rhodes joins in with his War Machine mechanical hand; both he and Tony are trying to succeed in getting this hammer up, but it's no use, it still sits there on the table.
"Are you even pulling?!" Rhodes looks to Tony with annoyance driven in his face, beads of sweat start to break out on his face.
Tony gives him a look of betrayal. "Are you on my team?"
"Just represent," Rhodes retorts, trying even harder to pull even with his War Machine hand doing all the work. "Pull!"
Ava can't help but snicker with Bucky, it's enjoyable to see them bicker over trying to lift a hammer that obviously isn't going to lift unless Thor is holding it. The other Avengers are too finding this funny to watch.
"Alright. Let's go!"
….
Next is Bruce; he's standing on the table, unlike the others, trying to lift it with the strength in his legs, but when he finds he can't even lift it, and the green guy probably can't either, he starts to yell and jumps off the table trying to look intimidating - almost playing like he's the green guy.
But the only reactions he gets are amused smiles and confusion; Natasha gives him a grin, finding his little act good but a little awkward.
"Huh?" Feeling an awkward silence build in the room. "I'll sit."
Avery looks over to her brother. "Go on, Stevie," she encourages. "You take a turn." Curious to see if the worthy notion is true, either Steve or Bucky would fit the bill in her mind.
Bucky grins. "I'd like to see this." Knowing that if anyone is worthy of holding that hammer, it'll be Steve.
"Yeah, go ahead Steve," Tony buts in. "No pressure."
With a sigh, Steve gets up from his seat and puts down any alcohol in his hands. He makes his way over to the hammer and pulls up his sleeves. "Come on, Cap!" Clint encourages him while Ava calls out looking a little too happy. "You can do it, brother!" Maybe she is a little drunk now. She has had a lot of alcohol tonight, and by a lot, that means two shots of the stuff Thor had and about four bottles of vodka.
And he tries, Steve pulls a couple of times but nothing happens - to the human eye. Thor notices the hammer shift slightly, but not enough for anyone to really point out. Steve gives up finally by putting his hands up with a surrender.
Thor gives a nervous chuckle. "Nothing." Trying to play it off, taking a large gulp from his glass of mystery juice.
Everyone turns to Bucky but he refuses. "Oh, no, if Steve can't lift the damn thing then there's no way I can." Putting his arms up just like Steve had.
Next, they look between Natasha and Ava.
"Widow?"
Natasha shakes her head, taking a sip of beer. "Oh, no." Declining as well. "That is not a question I need answered."
Thor is the one to look at Ava with an expecting look. "Miss Winter?"
Avery purses her lips at the name but shakes her head too, leaning back in her chair. "No thanks," she says, about to take another chug from the vodka bottle. "I'd rather not embarrass my reputation."
Tony starts to talk again. "All the difference to the 'Man Who Wouldn't Be King,' but it's rigged," he theorizes.
Clint agrees, patting the playboy billionaire on the back, "You bet your ass."
Agent Hill gasps mockingly, pointing towards Clint. "Steve, he said a bad language word," she grins. Bucky starts to chuckle, remembering back at the Hydra base when Steve scolded Tony on his language over the mics. Ava, however, is reminded of how she nearly lost James to that cannon blast. It doesn't seem so funny anymore.
Steve groans, looking exasperated as he turns towards Tony. "Did you tell everyone about that?!" Only Tony would do something like that.
Tony ignores him, looking over to Thor. "The handle's imprinted right?" He carries on, not willing to believe that worthiness really plays a part in who can hold the hammer. "Like a security code. 'Whosoever is carrying Thor's fingerprints' is, I think, the literal translation."
"Yes," Thor starts, but his tone is far from revealing. "It's a very, very interesting theory." He nods his head, getting up from the couch with his glass in hand. He makes his way over to the hammer. "But I have a simpler one." He grabs his hammer, flinging it in the air just enough so it does a somersault, before landing itself in his hand. "You're all not worthy."
In return, he gets groans and 'boos' for his choice of working and for telling them that he basically rules over them. Thor just chuckles while everyone else just shakes their heads at his absurd theory, even though he's actually the one who owns the great hammer itself.
Suddenly, a sharp ringing sound pierces the air making everyone either cringe or hold their ears until the sound stops. Those with better hearing; meaning all three with the super serum, Bruce, and Thor hear it even louder which becomes nearly painful. Luckily it only lasts for less than three seconds.
"Worthy," a groaned voice drags out in the air behind, by the elevator. Everyone twists around to the voice, either shocked or startled because no one else should be in the building right now. And another thing, this voice came from one of Tony's robots, one that is barely standing and nearly demolished. "No." It's movements turn towards them, face to face. Avery is narrowing her eyes at the thing, slowly getting up from the couch and placing the bottle of vodka on the table. Completely forgetting about her mission to get drunk. "How could you be worthy?" It waves its half-destroyed arm towards her. "You're all killers."
Bucky notices Ava flinch at his last three words, so silently, he reaches out and holds her hand. She tenses for a moment but relaxes when she realizes it's him who's touching her.
"Stark," Steve says to Tony with a hard voice.
Tony is well ahead of him. "Jarvis." He's tapping away at the device in his hand, but his AI never answers. He has no idea why.
"I'm sorry, I was asleep," the mechanical voice speaks again as if answering for Jarvis' lack of communication. "Or I was a-dream…"
Tony is looking a little panicked. "Reboot Legionnaire OS," he says to the mini tablet, but still nothing happens. He's as confused as everyone else. "We got a buggy suit." Thinking one of his machines just has some kind of virus, this isn't the first time. But this is the first time that Jarvis hasn't answered his calls - the AI has been silenced.
"There was this terrible noise," the machine sounds pained but goes back to normal almost straight away. "And I was tangled in…in…strings." There's a pause. "I had to kill the other guy. He was a good guy."
"You killed someone?" Bucky steps forwards, unconsciously putting himself in front of Ava but his words hold anger.
"It's almost as if the machine shrugs it off. "It wouldn't have been my first call. But down in the real world, we're faced with ugly truths."
Thor's eyes narrow towards it. "Who sent you?"
The robot makes almost a rewinding sound, one that you would find if you went back through a tape. Tony's voice recording comes out. "I see a suit of armor around the world."
Bruce's eyes widen, "Ultron." He looks to Tony who just stands there in shock; this isn't what either of them was expecting for Ultron to come out like. This is like their worst nightmare. By the looks of it, they've created a murder bot. Everyone else is glancing at Bruce with confusion. Who is Ultron?
"In the flesh," Ultron replies, nodding his disfigured body towards them. "Or, no, not yet." He takes that back and looks down at his body. "Not this chrysalis. But I'm on mission…" he pauses, moving about a moment. All of the Avengers are getting themselves ready, they can practically smell a fight coming. Agent Hill takes out the gun hidden in her jacket while Dr. Cho starts to budge away, not knowing that fighting already is not her thing. She knows she'll lose if she even tries to fight, science is her domain, not violence.
Ava slowly and reluctantly takes her hand out of Bucky's, moving beside him but mostly in front of the others who don't exactly have the best accelerated healing like she, Bucky, Steve or Thor do. Bruce can't be included because they really don't want a Code Green right now.
Natasha is the one to question next. "What mission?" She too is edging towards Bruce, almost like protecting him from getting hurt. Because if he does - the big guy will come out to play.
"Peace in our time." As Ultron finishes, four of Tony's flying robots smash through the wall and head straight towards them on a warpath to kill.
One of them goes straight for Agent Hill, Rhodes and Steve - Hill and Rhodes duck but Steve kicks up a metal table into the air, throwing it in the robot's path. Unfortunately, he's knocked back meters away, landing with a thud. Agent Hill begins firing her weapon at the machines.
Another goes straight for Thor, he uses his hammer to smash the robot on its side, flying it across the other side of the room before banging into the wall.
The third one goes straight for Bucky and Ava; without even thinking, they lift one of the sofa's together with ease - throwing it towards the oncoming machine. The sofa pushes it into the floor with a crunch; after this, they split up to help the others.
Rhodes is thrown out of one of the internal glass windows, landing him on the level blow, essentially knocking him out cold.
Clint slides underneath one of the tables hidden away, he knows that without his bow and arrows he can't do much either, he'll just get in the way of the people who can actually fight these things without the chance of dying.
Natasha drags Bruce with her and throws themselves over the bar for cover, but this is also where she stashed her security weapon. You never know when a gun might come in handy these days.
Tony grabs a screwdriver before jumping up on the fourth robot; the machine tries to shake him off but Tony is stubborn, he hangs on so he can use his plan to kill it.
Steve jumps onto his one before starting to punch it, but unfortunately, it flies back into the wall, crushing Steve behind him. He falls to the floor with a grunt.
"Ava!" Bucky calls from the other side of the room, having tried to help Thor with his murder bot. Avery twists towards the voice after having herself thrown across the room by Thor's bot too - she's going to have a sore back in the morning just like Steve. Bucky has his shield in hand and he throws it towards her, she grabs it and almost without thinking, she throws it towards the bot trying to kill her brother. It smashes into a few dozen pieces, killing it.
Two down. Two to go.
Thor throws his robot over the railings and it tears in two. This robot is stubborn like Tony, it starts to fly upwards and immediately catches sight of Dr. Cho hiding behind a couch. He starts to raise his gun-hand, but is cut short by Bucky grabbing him from behind and throwing him across the room. "Thor!" He shouts, but the God already knows what to do.
Thor raises his hammer and smashes the bot once and for all, destroying it.
"Steve!" Avery shouts. Steve turns to her much like she has done with Bucky; she throws the shield towards him and he directs its path towards the last bot that Tony isn't dealing with. Steve has thrown the shield towards the one that originally went after Bucky and Ava, it obviously doesn't want to die just yet until the shield hits it.
Tony is wiggling the sharp screwdriver inside the neck of his bot, looking for the right kink. He stabs it further in, and the bot dies instantly, making the side of his body collide with the staircase painfully as he drops from the sky, his body tumbles into a pile of broken glass laying on the floor he fell in.
As the fight stops and finishes, everything goes silent until Ultron speaks once again.
"Well, that was dramatic." It's like the fight hasn't even affected him, only made up his mind on something. "I'm sorry, I know you mean well. You just didn't think it through."
"You want to protect the world," he continues. Avery and Bucky go up to stand beside Steve, knowing that if Ultron decides to fight again, they'll wale on him first. "But you don't want it to change…how is humanity saved if it's not allowed to evolve?"
Ultron moves to pick up the remainder of one of the robots that have been split in two. "With these? These puppets." He crushes the head of it, with a tightness of rage.
"There's only one path to peace…the Avengers extinction!"
Thor is having enough at this point, he throws his hammer straight for Ultron and hits him - the robot goes flying back, its functions crushed too deeply to survive working. Ava is twitching for one of those shields because if Thor hadn't killed that thing - she would have. She doesn't like the sound of what he said either. 'The Avengers extinction.' It makes a deep anger grow inside of her. The hammer goes flying back to Thor's hand and the last words of Ultron's robotic voice echoes through the air.
"I had strings…but now I'm free."
