A/N: When I've written: Kakashi 'smiled' or 'smiled cheerfully', I mean that he has his eye closed in a happy way (like you see in the anime). Kakashi smiling under his mask is a bit more alluring. Since the first one can't be used in every case make sure to remember it while you're reading.
Iruka looked over from the rooftop. Inside Sasuke's house he saw Naruto sleeping peacefully with Sasuke by his side.'I'm glad he's safe. I wonder how he ended up in Sasuke's house.' he wondered. 'O well it doesn't matter. Sasuke's taking good care of him'. Iruka looked once more and thought to himself 'Sasuke's learned to open up to others. That's a nice change'
Iruka had been searching for Naruto hoping to have a bowl of ramen with him. He looked all over but couldn't find him. So he asked Sakura who didn't know either but suggested to ask Sasuke. Thus Iruka had arrived at Sasuke's house.
It was around 9:15. Searching through twilight, night had fallen. He was a bit worn out from having to search through the village. It certainly wasn't easy.
Looking closely he saw that Naruto had been bandaged. 'Sasuke did that? But why? What happened to Naruto' he pondered. As he looked he then saw something surprising and unbelievable.
Sasuke titled his head forward and gave Naruto a kiss on the forehead. He smiled while looking at the blonde haired boy. Iruka was astounded and blinked his eyes. Sure enough Sasuke had done it. Iruka couldn't stop himself from feeling absolutely flabbergasted. 'Is that Sasuke...?...what?!'
A short while after, Sasuke walked over and carefully slid himself onto the other side of the bed. The two boys slept peacefully, as if they didn't mind each other at all. No, it seemed to be the opposite. They appeared to be quite comfortable with each other. 'Those two are actually better as friends, since have a lot in common. Deep down they understand each others loneliness. Perhaps they can help figure out each others lives' he thought still smiling.
A voice suddenly spoke from behind "It's quite nice to see those two getting along. They hide the fact that they enjoy each other's company, by pretending to be rivals" he chuckled.
Iruka wasn't surprised and recognised the voice that belonged to Kakashi. He looked towards the jonin. "Kakashi-sensei. Are you looking for Naruto?" he asked.
"Yes" Kakashi replied. He had his sharingan exposed and was looking at Naruto. After a while he clutched his headband and covered his left eye. He sighed. "Look likes he got himself into some trouble."
Iruka's face instantly turned into that of a depressed puppy. He knew that Naruto was hated by the villagers but he didn't realise how good the boy was at hiding his wounds. Moreover, he didn't realize that Naruto got himself into such kind of trouble. Iruka felt immense amounts of guilt crawling into his heart.
"He's been acting strange and his chakra still isn't clear" Kakashi continued. He then sneaked a looked at Iuka and smiled. 'He looks so cute when he's worried' he thought. He smiled a little under his mask, amused by the look on Iruka's face.
Iruka furrowed his brow and looked into Kakashi's eye. "Do you mean...?.."
Kakashi nodded. "There's no need to worry about it now. I'll keep an eye on him just in case." He sighed "Looks like I'll have to cancel tomorrow's mission."
"Oh I could do that for you" Iruka offered. "Really? That would be great. Thank you Iruka" said a smiling Kakashi.
"No worries" Iruka replied.
Seeing that Naruto was safe and that it was getting late, Iruka made up his mind to go home. "I need to get going Kakashi-sensei. I still have to make dinner" he chuckled depressingly. "So please excuse me" he said.
Kakashi stood there looking at him and something tugged at his heart. Being with Iruka, he felt so thrilled that it made his heart flutter. It made him want to stay with him and see him smile. He wanted to stay there, talk with him and make him blush like crazy. His heart clearly did not want to let him go.
Perhaps that was the reason, why Kakashi didn't even think or consider before blurting out "Would you like to go out with me for dinner?"
Iruka took a moment to process those words. 'He wants to go out for dinner?'
Kakashi waited patiently with an anxious heart. 'Well I can't take it back' he thought nervously.
"It's alright Kakashi-sensei. I appreciate it but I don't want to bother you." Iruka said, being the usual kind person he was.
"Hey now, come on. You said you would cancel tomorrow's mission for me. It's the least I can do" said Kakashi. "Besides...we both live alone. I really haven't eaten with someone in a long time. I'm sure you feel the same" he said in a soft tone. "Also it's pretty late and you must be tired. Do you really want to go home now and make dinner? I told you last time. Don't over exert yourself."
As Kakashi said this he placed his hand on Iruka's cheek and softly rubbed below his eyes. Kakashi's expression was kind and he couldn't reject him.
Iruka had to admit, after walking around the village he was tired. He dreaded the thought of having to go home and make dinner. Not to mention the dishes.
Also Kakashi was very kind and Iruka did enjoy his company. It was true that eating alone at home was sometimes a bit depressing. So he smiled and said "If it doesn't bother you I'd...love to."
Kakashi was quick to respond. His eye shone and he asked "Where should we go then?"
"Ichiraku. Is that okay with you?" said Iruka.
"Yeah, sure. Let's get going." Kakashi said.
In a flash the two disappeared from the rooftop.
Kakashi and Iruka walked through Konoha's streets. It was late and people were enjoying the night life. The shops were full of customers and shopkeepers were busy working hard. Each shop had beautiful lanterns hung up, which lit the whole street. Iruka loved it and he enjoyed letting his mind wander, making the marketplace seem magical.
Kakashi on the other hand walked quietly, looking forward. All he could remember were painful memories. Every where he looked he could only remember the moments he had spent with his 'friend crush'. The days he had spent with him, before he was gone. 'Not that we were lovers. He never thought of me that way, only as a friend' Kakashi thought. 'But that's not something I could've forced on him. I'm just glad for the time he gave me'. Kakashi looked over at Iruka and shook his head. 'I shouldn't be thinking too much about it. Especially not when I'm with someone else' he thought, and then smiled.'Well, I can't force anything onto Iruka either'.
Iruka looked over at Kakashi. The jonin seemed to be deep in thought. He looked forward eyes focused on something far away. Iruka noticed, that despite the fact he wore a mask he conveyed many emotions. The mask covered his face and gave the impression that he was mysterious, but that wasn't the case. Iruka perceived it as him hiding his looks, as if it would bring him trouble. But he didn't know why he thought of it that way. As most would say people it was probably because of his insecurity.
As Iruka kept looking at him he noticed things that he hadn't observed before. The way Kakashi's face was covered by his mask. He could see the tight fabric that stretched across his collarbone, neck and his jawline. The black cloth stretched tightly on his skin and showed the structure of his face. His nose pointed slightly upward and below that he could make out his lips. Those lips would move slightly when he eye, always showing kindness towards others. Along with the beautiful hair that had a marvellous silver colour to it. 'No wonder all the women of Konoha are obsessed over him. He does have good looks' he thought. 'They probably wonder how he looks under that mask'.
As he thought of this, he remembered the day before when Kakashi had visited him at the academy. The image of him without his mask, looking at Iruka in an alluring way, inches away from his face and calling his name... Iruka blushed and his chest tightened. He peeked at Kakashi out of the corner of his eye, then quickly looked away.' Goodness...why am I thinking about that? I don't think he meant to do anything'. But as he was thinking, he felt like he didn't believe his own thoughts.
As he was pondering about all this he didn't notice that they had arrived at the ramen shop. "Iruka" Kakashi called.
Iruka lifted his head and replied "Hm? Oh we're here". The two men then went in and sat down.
Check out a short film on YouTube called 'Kiss of the Rabbit God' by Andrew Huang. It's really amazing! (I guarantee that you will get a nosebleed)
