Inside the courtyard of the Monastery, Kai is training with his father. Kai side ways kicks his father, making him stumble backwards a little.

"How was that?" Ray wheezed, bent down with his hands on his knees. "Your old man ... still as awesome moves."

"Really great, dad." Kai rubbed the back of his neck. "But we're just sparring for Master Wu's little research project, so, don't hurt yourself, ok?"

"It's a valuable opportunity." Master Wu said as he stands next to Zippy, who is nudging the elder gently with his nose. "To study the effect of elemental powers on a former master. But, sparring isn't what I had in mind. Uh, Kai, would you kindly direct a burst of fire at your father?"

"Uh, what now?" Ray asks nervously. Kai ignites his hand, which causes Ray to scream and duck for cover.

"MASTER WU!" Jay cries in panic as he rushes towards them. "MASTER WU! MASTER WU!"

"Slow down Jay, what's wrong?" Wu asks.

"Nya and the others are back at the Island of the Keepers! The Storm Amulet's at the Explorers Club!" Jay explains.

"The Explorers Club?" Wu repeats as Zippy nuzzles him fondly. "How is that possible?"

"Who would possibly be foolish enough to do that?" Kai asked as he puts his sword back on his back.

Still stuck at the Island of the Keepers, the Ninja stood on top of the sub.

"Kalmaar's right." Nya said, her voice hurtful. "This is my fault."

"Don't give up, Nya." Maya told her gently. "Zane will get the controls fixed. There's hope."

"There is no hope." Zane said as he climbed out of the sub. "I've assessed the damage and it is beyond repair."

Jeanette tried to take a deep calming breath. "What'd we do now?"

Benthomaar turns to Nya. "Can you not use your Elemental Powers to summon whales? They could easily pull this vessel behind them."

"Summon whales?" Nya asked, sharing a look with her mother. "No, I can't do that."

"But you are named Nya." Benthomaar continued.

"Yeah?" Nya leaned backwards with a raised eyebrow.

"What's Nya's name have to do with anything?" Cole asked with irritation.

"The first Elemental Master of Water." Benthomaar answered. "Nyad. Surely you know the tale of Nyad."

Maya turns to her daughter. "I told you this. Don't you remember? When you were a little girl? The story of Nyad and the whales. She rode upon their backs. We named you after her." She turns to face Benthomaar. "But, it's just a children's story, Bentho."

"It's true. Nyad helped defeat the serpent Wojira. She leapt onto the serpent's head with nothing but a broken trident."

"Benthomaar, I can't summon whales. I can only control water, and right now, not even that." Nya told him, then looked away.

"She's right. I was the Elemental Master of Water before her." Maya told Benthomaar. "I would know if something like that was possible."

Benthomaar frowned. "Have you ever tried?"

Maya and Nya look at each other.

"Well, no." Nya answered as Maya shook her head.

"Then, how do you know?" Benthomaar asked.

Nya and her mother look at each other again, before Nya walks out into the sea and closes her eyes, then looks down to see some fish around her.

"Oh. Hi guys." She turns to her friends. "What do I do now?" She asks as the fish jump around her.

"Whatever you're doing, it's working." Maya said. "Try again!"

"Be careful not to call any piranha. Ooh, or sharks. Or, or blowfish. Or fire sharks, or glass snails." Cole starts panicking and Maya pats him on the back.

At the Explorers Club, Cecil Putnam is putting away a book when Wu and the others burst into the reception room.

"Oh. Misako. You're alive." Putnam said as he put away the book he'd been holding as Misako walked up to the desk. "What a pleasant surprise. How may I help you?"

"We need to see Clutch Powers." She told him.

"Certainly. Your membership card?"

"You know full well you revoked it, Cecil!" Misako told him.

"Ah, yes. Terribly sorry. I shall immediately begin the years-long reactivation process. In the meantime, however, I'm afraid I must deny entry. This club is for members only."

Wu slams his fist on the desk, knocking the phone off the hook. "This is an emergency! Clutch Powers is in possession of a dangerous artifact."

The man behind the desk didn't even care. "Sir, there are a good number of very dangerous artifacts in this establishment. Our collection is filled with them."

"You're ok with that?" Wu asks.

"The members of the Explorers Club laugh in the face of danger." Putnam then laughs in Wu's face. ""Ha! Ha! Ha!" "Ho, ho, ho!" is also accepted."

"It's true, that was part of the test." Misako shamefully admitted.

"Might I recommend that this charming conversation would be most comfortably continued outside?"

Kai moved forward, slamming his fist on the desk, knocking the phone off it's hook. "Look, you pencil pushing."- He trails off when Misako places her hand on his shoulder.

"Cecil. There is one way that non-members can be permitted. A Trial By Sphinx." She revealed.

Putnam gasped with horror. "No one has invoked a Trial By Sphinx for decades! Not since the incident with Lord Belgrave. Whew, that was a mess."

Jay scratched his head. "What happened to Lord Belgrave?"

"Consider it invoked." Misako glared at Putnam.

"Be the consequences on your own head." He warns Misako, before he presses a button under the desk.

The floor splits open and a sphinx rises from the smoke, and three torches are lit. The mouth opens and a woman's voice calls out.

"Who will enter my riddle?"

"Disgraced former members may not participate. The rest of you have a combined total of three guesses. If you fail, the results will be ... untidy." Putnam told the three Ninja.

"I don't like this!" Jay cried as he tried to hide behind Kai.

"Good luck, son!" Ray said, nudging Kai before backing away quickly.

Master Wu walks towards the sphinx. "Ask your riddle."

"Give me food, and I will live. Give me water, and I will die. Who am I?"

"Hm." Jay folds his arms. "That's a tuffy." He smiles. "I know! Cake!"

A torch goes out and the sphinx shoots fire.

"Cake?" Wu turns to Jay. "You have been spending too much time with Cole!"

Jay smiles. "He is my best friend!" He pauses as he mutters under his breath while folding his arms. "Of course he did steal my - ouch!" He cried when Master Wu bonks him on the head with his staff.

"Discipline is usually the answer to everything." Wu said as Jay rubs his sore head.

"Two guesses left." The sphinx said.

Wu turns to the sphinx. "Discipline!"

"Wrong!" The sphinx shoots fire again as a torch goes out and Misako facepalms. "One guess left."

"Food, live. Water, die." Kai mutters. "It's fire." He realizes. "You're fire!"

"Correct!" The sphinx then disappears, and the phone flies off the hook and an unhappy Putnam catches it.

"Oh, rather dull of the Sphinx's part, eh? You may pass."

Inside a room, Clutch Powers is still telling his story when Misako and the Ninja burst in. "Oh, hey, guys! I was just talking about you." He said nervously as he sidesteps to hide the real amulet that sat on a pedistal in plan view.

"Save it, Powers!" Jay exclaimed.

"Where's the amulet?" Kai demanded.

"Amulet?" Powers asks weakly "What amulet?"

Suddenly the wall behind Powers, blasts apart to reveal Kalmaar and his forces.

"Give me the amulet, or be destroyed!" The villain demanded, pointing his trident at Powers, who crawled backwards.

"Oh, you mean this amulet?" He asked as he stood up and held the amulet in his arms. "Heh, it's all yours." He gives it to Master Wu, then turn tail and runs away while screaming.

"Oh, a shameful display."

"No backbone!"

"You can forget the explorer of the year award. Nomination revoked!" The three old timers looked at each other and gave a nod of approval.

"You." Kalmaar points at Wu. "Old man." He points at Wu with his charged up trident. "Bring me that!"

"Come and get it." Wu said as he twirled his staff as Jay and Kai pulled down their Ninja hoods.

Gripe lets out a hissing noise, and the Merlopians attack, the Ninja are quick to attack.

Kai kicks a Merlopian away from the three club members. "Don't worry, I'll protect you." No sooner had he said that, a Merlopian attacks him.

"Oh, what gump. We are members of the Explorers Club. We laugh in the face of danger! Ha, ha, ha! Tally ho!" He jumps in to knock a Merlopian away from Kai who was sneaking up on the Red Ninja.

Another grabs a hat stand and rushes into the battle. "You will rue the day you ruffians stormed our club. Ho, ho, ho!" But he's easily knocked to the floor by a Merlopian.

"You'll receive no quarter here!" Another member releases insects on the creature.

"I don't know who you are." Wu said as he twirled his staff. "But you'll regret it!"

"I am King Kalmaar! I am your conqueror!" Kalmaar said proudly.

Master Wu fights him, then easily knocks him down. "Conquer that!" Kalmaar gets back up and fires at Wu, who gets knocked down and the amulet is flown towards Kalmaar.

But Rocky slams into him, knocking him down and he catches it.

"You surface brat!" Kalmaar yells, grabbing Rocky, Rocky kicks him causing him to howl. "You snot nose pest!" Kalmaar grabs Rocky roughly, Rocky struggled against him, he sees Kai nearby.

"Uncle!"

Kai thunder kicked the Merlopian he was fighting, and turned sharply when he heard Rocky. "Rocky!" Both his hands light up with flames as he runs at Kalmaar. "Let go of my nephew now, you fish taco!" He demands throwing a large ball of fire at Kalmaar, who easily dodges it.

"You mean this runt?" Kalmaar laughs as Master Wu quickly comes up to Kai's side. "I don't think so, he's my ticket."

"Where's my sister!?" Kai demanded, his flaming hands growing larger.

"The foolish water girl is your sister? Aw yes, I see it now." Kalmaar laughs again. "She's right where I left her. Under the sea!"

Kai's fire quickly grows more as he charges at Kalmaar with rage.

Still on the Island, Nya is still trying to summon the whales.

"How's it going?!" Cole calls from the shore of the beach.

"Still trying to concentrate here!" Nya yells, turning back to the beach. "There's just a lot of little fish, and they're too small to pull this sub, and we're stuck here, and it's all my fault!" She then drops face first into the water an screams, scaring the fish.

"This is not your fault, Nya!" Cole tells her.

"How is it not my fault? If I hadn't come along, Calamari would have never found this place." Nya rants, and Cole gasps. "The amulet would still be safe, and."-

"Nya, look!" Cole cried, pointing behind her where whales have begun to appear.

Nya gasps.

"Yes!" Jeanette cried throwing her arms around Lloyd and he spins her around.

"Alright!" He cheers.

"You did it, Nya!" Maya cried. "You did it!"

"We're going home!" Jeanette cheered.

"Yeah!" Cole cheered, pumping a fist into the air. "Destination, Ninjago City!"
