Chapter 4
As they were flying completely in the dark, Parrot couldn't see Rhinoceros Beetle because of how black his scales were. He called out multiple times just to make sure he was still with him. Why did it have to be so dark!? It was his first time being somewhere without light and he didn't count nighttime because of how the moons were out to light up the forest.
"Rhino! Are you there?" he asked again with the sound of his voice echoing off the walls. He felt a talon tapping him on his foot causing him to look at where it came from. He didn't see one of those monsters just the empty dark.
"I'm still here," He said before Parrot heard a clacking sound. It was then a burst of light came out of nowhere illuminating the cave in an orange glow.
"Woah, that's so cool!" Parrot said looking at the strange light. For some reason, it felt warm unlike anything else he had seen. Parrot reached his talons over to touch it to see what it was. It's so majestic and beautiful.
"Oh no, no, no!" Rhino moved the light away so he couldn't touch it. "It's going to burn you!"
"Why and how is it going to burn me?"
"There is a lot of science to it... That I don't understand at all," Rhino flew to the side of a wall in which he pulled out a couple of roots as Parrot could see. Rhino flew over giving him some roots to hold: "You mind if you carry some of these with you? We'll need more as we go deeper." Parrot began thinking about how he was dragged into this wondering how he accepted to come with him. Why did I come here with him? He recalled when he helped Parrot and... Why did I tell him about my instructor? I had only asked him to help once? He began thinking of other things like how he had just decided to get Parrot to help him rescue Toco. Wait a moment! He had just fallen out of the sky and just said 'Let's rescue your instructor' right into his face and... I just followed along? Parrot stopped midflight and just flew there looking as Rhino descended deeper. Why did I follow along? Rhino looked back staring at him before flying back. He stopped right in front of Parrot, flying in place: "Come on, there's nothing to be afraid of." Parrot backed up from the black dragon unsure of how he had convinced him. Rhino looked stared before looking around at his own body. "Is it because of how I smell?" he returned his attention to the young RainWing.
"Why are you doing this?" confusion grew on what Parrot could see in the light from his face.
"Doing what exactly?"
"Why are you are helping to help find my instructor?" Rhino's snout scrunched up possibly in a thought. "You just fell out of the sky and started helping me when we only just met!"
"True... I just realized that also. Do I always do this with others?" Rhino began to ramble on a bit before remembering someone was with him. "Sorry."
"It's fine," Parrot looked towards the downward darkness that he and this dragon were going into.
"Are you scared?" Parrot looked up to meet his eyes which began averting his. He decided to stop trying with eye contact due to fidgety it was.
Parrot gulped before answering: "Y..ye..yes."
"I know... I'm scared also, but trust me on this. I'll back your instructor back, I promise, and I never break promises." Parrot nodded before continuing the plunge into the dark. They kept this up for the next hour Parrot believed Rhino had said. It was still nothing but the dark and for some reason hot steam.
"Why did you say you had four wings exactly?" Parrot asked with the question bouncing off the walls, echoing right into his ears again. Rhino turned to answer when suddenly Rhino turned to look at something glowing in the distance.
"What is that?" They flew closer to the light when suddenly a new voice spoke out.
"Don't move if you don't want to die! Also, don't make any noise! But you can keep the light on, it doesn't care about it!" The voice was commanding as if it were a queen of sorts. They both froze up, only flapping their wings looking down, the light came closer and that was when a horrifying fish-like face crawled up the walls. A light was attached to its head with a strange sail that looked like it didn't do anything, it was massive of course like the bat creature he had seen. The talons didn't look like anything he had seen before with the strange spike making most of it's thumb. He couldn't see the rest of it but he was for sure not going to find out. It let out a small sneeze-like growl turning it's head in the other direction and...
"HELLO! Anybody down there!?" Both dragons looked up seeing to RainWings descending down with the monster turning immediately back towards them climbing at a scary speed.
"WHAT IS THAT!" another familiar voice shrieked.
"Utterly useless," mumbled the mysterious voice. Another dark figure lunged towards the beast stabbing something that looked like a sharp stick into it's back before using it's claws to... By the moons! What is that dragon doing to it? Blood had spilled out onto the wall it was climbing with the monster releasing it's grasp of the wall before falling into the dark.
"Parrot! And other dragon we don't know," when the face came into view it was of Droplet and of an adult RainWing.
"Droplet!? What are you doing here!?" Parrot asked looking at the two RainWings.
"We heard someone crying out for help nearby so we just flew down after you!" The other RainWing responded.
"Uh, who are you again? Never really remembered faces or names."
"Lime and might that dragon's name be?" Lime said pointing to the black dragon.
"Oh, my name is Rhinoceros Beetle," Rhino responded.
"CAN YOU ALL STOP TALKING RIGHT NOW!" It was clearer now with the beast gone, it was a girl but the accent sounded much weirder than anything he had heard before which included Rhino's tone.
"Who said that!?" They all started looking around until the fire reached a terrifying dragon face with pitch-black eyes.
"Monster!" Droplet cried out.
"Wait, she killed the weird light monster for us," Rhino countered looking up. Parrot was just frozen in terror, flapping and unable to move, darting his eyes around.
"Who's calling me a monster!? You're all the ones that are the monsters!" The monster dragon said.
"How so?" A silver light began coming out of nowhere, it began rolling round forming a ball of silver light before moving up to reveal a face and the entire frame. The stick that she had killed the monster with was no stick, it was one of many spider-like legs on her back. She of course still had her talons and claws but her entire part where the wings should be are just legs. She had a face forwarding smooth crest on her head with curling horns. Her scales were made up of a heavy amount of light grey and an even lighter brown on her underbelly with it also going down her spine. Spikes protruded like what Rhino had on his spine but they were shorter. A strange split was also on her lips as if someone had tried to slice her face open. She was pretty slim compared to the RainWings in the hole.
"For one thing, is that you can fly."
