Synopsis:

She was happiness. She was joy. A charming little girl with who would always see the positive side of things and try to find the good in people's heart. . . That girl was me, at some point. But this story is not one of those.

There is no prince charming or a knight in shining armour, but I can guarantee you that there will be dragons with flames, demons from many kinds, creatures from legends, and battles like no other.

But the greatest fight of all is. . . The conflict within the heart with weapons that many know as. . .

Emotions. . .

I am Miyuki Urameshi. The girl who lost her spark, but ended up coming back as the whole damn fire.

The demon approached the Urameshi siblings with fury and hunger in his eyes.

"That soul you two let go of was my dinner, and I'm hungry." He hovered over the two before letting out a huge roar and punched and kicked the teens each in every away possible, making their bodies bounce and roll on the ground once more like footballs. "I'll just have to eat you instead!" The demon roared. Yusuke tried to get back up but during his attempt, he fell back down. Miyuki was also in the same condition but somehow, she managed to keep herself up on one knee in balance. "Oh, I forgot how fragile humans are." Said the demon. "Don't let me hit you too hard now." Miyuki growled at the creature before getting at least three of her kunai knives. "I mean, I hate to bruise the meat." He then began to charge at Yusuke then kick him another few feet away. With a loud thud and grunt, Yusuke hit his back into a tree. Feeling angry now, Miyuki threw her knives at the demon. Sadly, it didn't even scratch the surface of his skin, but it did stop the demon from getting any closer to his previous target. "Naive little girl, did you really thought your butter knives can kill me?" The demon laughed mockingly as Miyuki hold her side and grit her teeth. "Well, not this time!" Shouted the demonic creature before running at the small girl figure at full speed.

"Get away!" Yusuke shouted but his strength started to leave him as exhaustion and pain began taking over. He couldn't stand, nor crawl. The brother helplessly watched as his little sister was getting her lungs almost crushed by that monster.

Miyuki for once raised one hand up in the air as she tried to concentrate on controlling the water that is falling on her and around the area, but the demon already got there and punched the girl in the stomach and then in the face. The female Spirit Detective gasped for air but it was hard thanks to the blow the monster had sent to her chest. Before her body slid down from the wooden surface, the thief grabbed onto the small and now fragile figure's hair bun and began to choke her by the neck.

"Suffer." The demon said. "Just don't die."

"Leave my sister alone!" Yusuke said out of breath completely as he once more tried to get up. Just then when all hope was lost, voices began to ring through the woods while lights lit up one by one. Those things began to give the demon thief the scare. "That voice. . ." Yusuke grunted out as he kept one of his eyes open.

"Sorry little girl, but you and your brother are not worth the run-in for our local villagers, so I'll have to let you two live." Said the demon before throwing the now unconscious girl right next to her brother. "Now both of you, be smart and stay away from me." With that last warning, he ran away with the artefact.

"Bastard. . ." Yusuke managed to breathe out before dropping back down and close his eyes from exhaustion.

A gasp escaped through my lips as I got up from my bed. Wait. My bed?

"What happened to the forest?" I yelled as I scanned my surroundings. How on earth did I got back into the apartment in the first place? The last thing I checked Miyuki and I were fighting in the forest with some monster.

"I'm in my room?" I asked confused. "Don't tell me it was all just a crazy dream."

Then I remembered my sister.

"Miyu-!" My call was cut off when I saw my mother enter the room with a gasp as she dropped the blue rag onto the floor.

"Yusuke, you're up." Mother said. "Are you alright?" She asked with concern.

"I think so-" I was about to answer but a fist punched me on the head making me cry out in pain.

"Mother!" I shouted at her as I rubbed my head. "Don't just wallop an injured person."

"You and Miyuki looked like you were fighting a wrestler." Mom scolded before her angry face softened up. "You're going to get yourself killed. The both of you. . ." Then she began to weep again and fall on her knees like every morning.

"Don't do that mother, it's okay." I tried to reassure her, but I was never really good at comforting anyone.

"Is everything alright here?" Asked a raspy voice. I turned to the source to see my sister all patched up and bruised as well.

As fast as lightning, our mother got up on her feet and lunged herself at Miyuki.

"Oh, Miyuki!" She cried even harder as she brought the young girl's figure into her arms. "Thank goodness you're awake! I thought I had lost you too." Miyuki didn't say anything, just pet mom on the back awkwardly as an attempt to comfort her back. I turned my gaze down to my sheet and thought about what happened.

'That voice, however, it sounded familiar but who was it?'

"Oh, come on, you know." That familiar voice talked again. I turned to the door and saw. . ."Hello!" Botan greeted us.

"Wow Botan, you saved us?" I asked a little surprised.

"Yes, she did." My mom began explaining as she pulled away from Miyuki. "Botan brought you two home, each of you on her shoulders. She is very strong."

I then began to freak out when I realized my mother can now see her properly.

"Ah- she- what?" I stammered as Botan approached me and Miyuki. "Can other people see you now?" I finally stammered the question out earning a hum and nod from the blue-haired girl.

"I told Koenma that I'd make a much better assistant to the spirit detectives if I had a human form and he agreed." Botan explained.

"Makes sense I guess." I replied a little dazed as I try to get use to this now.

"Kids, you'll have to introduce me to this lady properly soon. " Mother laughed before leaving me and the girls alone.

"And how am I supposed to do that?" I asked out loud making Botan laugh while Miyuki just hummed and leaned against the wall next to my bed.

"So, how'd ya find us?" Asked Yusuke from Botan. "I didn't think even I knew where we were."

"Nothing too special." Replied the blue-haired girl as she laughed a little. "I just used this compass to find Gouki." She held up a compass. I walked over and gently took it from her hand.

"Well. this will make things a bit easier for searching, but it still won't solve our problems when it comes to fight with them." I told her as I hand the device to my brother.

"Miyuki is right there." Agreed Yusuke as he also examined the compass himself. "Gouki was a lot stronger then I thought."

"Yes, and the next two thieves will be even stronger and there's another catch." Botan said sadly. "Koenma didn't tell you this but you two only have one week." At that, I let out an exasperated sighed. Of course, things will get so much worse and more complicated. We didn't even reach one out of the three and we get this crappy deadline as well.

"Why does that not surprise me?" I hear Yusuke ask tiredly feeling the same way as I do.

"I should be encouraging you, but. . ." Botan trailed off as she slid down to the parkette and leaned her back against the wall. I looked down at my crossed arm and my stare got caught at my phoenix ring. The beauty of the jewellery mesmerized me for a small moment, but then I remembered my childhood best friend, Shuichi.

He said he wanted to use the mirror for something great for himself. But what could it be. . .?

Knowing him for a long time, he didn't seem like a bad guy. He was never that type to begin with. Now that I think about that argument, his eyes looked a bit sadder than before. . . . depressed . . . A look I had seen during his brother's last days. . . .

"Looks like Gouki is having his lunch." Yusuke's words snapped me out of my thoughts.

"In the past, he's taken souls much more slowly." Botan began. "With the Orb of Baast it's easier. He can take all he wants."

I can only imagine how horrible it can be.

"The souls he eats. . ." Yusuke started. "How long till they'll digested?" Botan thought for a moment.

"Hard to say." She spoke. "One day at the most?" She wasn't sure but it's still enough for us to save those souls. My brother got up from his bed, fast and put his green jacket on.

"What are you going to do? What can you do?" Botan asked my brother.

"Simple." Yusuke replied with confidence. "I'll just rip open his stomach."

"You are not even recovered yet." Botan pointed out.

"There is a lot of things I don't understand Botan." My brother replied, anger dripping from his tone. "But isn't it better for a person to lose their life than their soul? They can't even become a ghost! And I'll give up my body before that'll happen." I nodded my head in agreement. He is right, we can't.

"Yusuke. . ." Botan said with a little concern in her voice. My brother then pointed his finger gun in front of himself.

"I haven't used my spirit gun yet. This time I won't let him win." Yusuke said before turning to me. "And I don't think it's a good idea for my sister to come. I mean her injuries are much worse than mine. "

"You can't do this alone Yusuke." I reminded him as I straightened up with difficulty. "Even with the spirit gun, I don't think it would be strong enough to even scratch Goki's demon skin. I tried it with my knives but it's like trying to sew two boulder together with a needle." While saying this I watched Botan give my brother a golden ring.

"I was supposed to save this item for when your spirit energy got much stronger." Said the blue-haired girl with seriousness written all over her expression. "It will give your spirit gun a huge punch, but afterward you'll be completely exhausted."

"Huh?" Yusuke hummed.

"Only use it as a last resort." Botan warned.

"You got it." My brother replied with a small cocky smile as he began to wrap the compass around his left wrist.

"Listen to her Yusuke." I began warning him as well. "Use it as a last resort, even with the ring, I don't think it will be enough to rip him apart on the outside."

"Okay, fine sis. Just get some rest while I'm gone okay?" Replied my brother as he began to walk to the door.

"I am coming with you, whether you like it or not." I told him bluntly but Botan's hand grasped onto my shoulders making me wince in pain. I also felt a small crack as well. . . Damn. . .

"I have to agree with Yusuke on this one, you really need to take care of yourself." The girl instructed me making me glare at her a little, but before I can open my mouth my brother cuts in.

"Please." He said with a small gentle tone making me look at him in the eye. "I don't want you to get more injured. Just for once sit this out, ya dig. . . ?" He pleaded with me. I sent him a silent glare, but then I remembered something. Or someone. . . Shuichi. . .

I let out a growl as I crossed my arms over my chest and looked away from the two.

"Fine." I said through my teeth. I hate it when I can't do anything in a team, I mean I am a Spirit Detective as well. But I can't really fight with my brother at the moment, he is too stubborn, not to mention that an idiot at times. However, since I don't have enough spiritual powers at the moment I am useless. . . "Just don't get killed." I told him. I'll let this slide just for once.

"Alright." Yusuke said as be pat my head a little. "Don't do anything stupid while we're gone."

"Hn." I mentally rolled my eyes at this as I stepped away from Yusuke's hand. "How can I when you take all the stupid with you." Botan giggles at this while Yusuke sent me a playful glare. With a wave from him and Botan they left the flat.

A small sigh escaped through my lips but then I sprinted into my room and grabbed some normal clothing. While changing, however, every movement I made, it caused my sore muscles to scream. I let out a grunt or a whimper while I tried to get used to the pain. Maybe I can use those healing powers with some water but. . . It probably won't work. . . just like the very last time. . .

Soon I finally got into some clothes and made my way to the door.

"Where are you going?" I hear my mom ask curiously.

"I'll be home within a few hour." I told her as I reached the entrance of the house and placed my shoes onto my feet. "I'm gonna visit a friend of mine."

"Oh, okay." Replied my mother. "Be home before dinner, okay?"

With a small nod to her and a goodbye I left the house and went into the city. Once I made sure Yusuke is not around, I pulled out a communicator device that had I gotten right after I accepted the second Spirit Detective's Job.

"Koenma, it's Miyuki." I told into the device as its screen showed me Koenma struggling with paperwork.

"Miyuki?" Asked the toddler a bit surprised. "What are you doing alone? Where is Yusuke and Botan?!"

"They strictly told me to rest while they went on dealing with Gouki. " I explained to the baby. " In the meantime, however, I thought of searching for one of the other thieves while they are busy."

"I see." Koenma said but with a little bit of concern.

"Anyways, I actually wanted to ask you about something." I told him.

"Shoot." The toddler told me. Jeez even if he is the son of a ruler he sure acts like a stupid child.

"I need information about Shuichi Minamino, who you know him as Kurama, our thief." I began to explain. "Can you tell me which school he is currently studying at?"

"Give me a moment." Was all he said before pushing some buttons under his desk or something. "Aha! Got it." The toddles exclaimed. " Shuichi Minamino, student of Meiou High School. That's where he is at the moment." I nodded my head at him in reply.

"I'll update when something happens." I replied before closing the device and put it back into my pocket. Meiou High School is not that far from my school. Taking a deep breath my legs carried me to the said location. While walking, I didn't even notice the sun settling down so quickly.

It's afternoon already. I just hope Yusuke is okay. And for once he would think with his brain instead of his fist.

I was probably lost in my thoughts again because the next thing I knew, I bumped into someone.

"Sorry." I apologized in a small yelp since I hadn't recovered from my previous fight.

"It's quite alright miss." The person reassured me. Wait. . . That voice again. I looked up at the person and sure enough, it was the very someone I was looking for. As soon as my chocolate orbs once met with his forest green ones, I felt the pain strikes through my heart like millions of needles.

"Hello there, Rosehead." I told him with a small hint of mischief in my tone but I lowered my gaze down as fast as I could. There was a small gasp that I heard from Shuichi.

"Phoenix?" He asked me with a surprised yet gentle tone, the very same one I used to hear. I nodded my head before I pulled out my necklace to reveal that ring I had gotten from his baby-brother.

"Long time no see, huh?" I asked him in a small whisper.

"Hey Yusuke, can't you just admit it would be easier to lean on my shoulder?" Botan asked while Yusuke was limping ahead with a stick in hands. He wasn't really fond of the idea of letting a girl help him out because in his eyes it would look weird in public.

"Right, can't you admit that would be embarrassing?" He replied back a bit rudely, earning a look of annoyance from the blue-haired girl. Suddenly his compass began to beep loudly making him gasp a little.

"What's up?" Asked Botan as she rushed over to Yusuke's side. As soon as she saw the beeping compass she and Yusuke began to look around.
Eventually, their eyes got caught by a familiar-looking redhead figure, but he seemed to have company.

"Is that Miyuki?" Botan asked worriedly while Yusuke's eyes widen at the scene in front of him.

'What is my sister doing here with him?' The overprotective brother asked with concern and a little hint of anger in his eyes. But they also reflected disbelief because she was there with one of the thieves and the two seem to be chatting like the civil people.

"I'll try to talk with my brother for the time being." Miyuki informed Shuichi who nodded his head before reaching for something that is behind his hair. Yusuke and Botan began to panic, not knowing what their criminal is about to do to their second Spirit Detective. The bluenette girl held her back while holding Yusuke back as well, not wanting him to do anything extra. But fortunately, all worries washed away, and instead, it was replaced with surprise.

"It's good to see you again Miyuki." Said the redhead teen with a small smile as he handed the girl a sky-blue rose that matched the girl's ribbons. Miyuki let out a small gasp as she finally took notice of the beautiful flower within her childhood friend's grasp.

"Heh, still playing the role of prince charming I see." The girl joked lightly making Kurama let out a small chuckle. Miyuki stole a tiny glance from her childhood friend before turning her stare down fast to her shoes and hesitantly, but shyly took the flower from him. Still, she doesn't dare to meet his eyes, a gesture that made Kurama frown a little because had been like this since they reunited properly today. . .

It's like she was either afraid of him or. . . ashamed of something. . .

"See you then in three days then." Miyuki told him politely. With a small head nod, Shuichi gave a small pat on the girl's shoulder and left. The Urameshi girl mentally flinched a little at his touch, but kept her cool during this small contact.

As soon as Miyuki turned away from the redheaded boy her eyes spotted her brother and blue-haired assistant in the crowd. Yusuke all beaten up using a stick to support his weight while Botan looked at her other Spirit Detective with questioning eyes. Sighing Miyuki walked over the two with a stoic expression.

"I'll explain things later. Let's just go." With that she began to walk ahead of them with the rose that she is holding in her hands.
