"Sir, there is no need to worry. I'm sure Yusuke and Miyuki are able to handle themselves out there." Jorge tried to reassure the annoyed toddler who had been pacing around on his office desk for a while, that probably felt like hours. "Besides, they have Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei with them."
"Just be quiet, will ya?!" The little baby snapped at the blue ogre who jumped back in fear. "I can't think clearly if you keep on babbling with your big mouth! So why not make yourself useful by trying to find out who is the new Phoenix instead?!"
"Y-yes sir!" Jorge replied with a shaky voice before running away as fast as possible towards the office's exit door, however as the said entrance opened, another ogre rushed in with a look of panic on his expression.
"Koenma sir, they're back!" He said out of breath since he hurried his way over to his boss's office. "And not only that, we had found out who is Akio's reincarnation."
"What?!" Koenma exclaimed in shock. "WHO?!"
While he was about to find out who that person was, his recruited team was in the waiting room area. The male spirit detective and his teammates were anxiously waiting for someone to come out and give them the news about the Urameshi girl's condition. It's been hours since Miyuki was under the care of Ruby and some other doctors from the Spirit World Hospital Wing and so far no one came with any update.
"Still nothing?" Yusuke asked impatiently as he asked some of the doctors that were around the area.
"Calm down Urameshi." Kuwabara said as he attempted to calm the Spirit Detective's nerves down. "I'm sure they're trying their best to-."
"Don't tell me to calm down!" The Urameshi boy shouted angrily, as he brushed off the orange-haired teen's hand. "That bastard almost killed my sister, while I was right there, and now I don't even know whether she is dying or not!" He then sat down on a chair and slammed his hands against his head, grasping onto his black locks, almost like he is ready to rip them off piece by piece, not caring if he would go bald.
"Hey, it's not your fault that she is hurt." Kazuma tried again to convince the tormented brother figure. "It was that stupid magician's, who even started this mess in the first place." He reasoned, but it didn't seem to reach Yusuke's mind.
"He is right Yusuke. " The redhead calmly agreed as he was leaning his back on the wall with his arms crossed and eyes closed. "No one could have predicted this."
"Hn." Hiei just scoffed as usual and just stood there next to the others, deep in his own thoughts.
"But I am supposed to be her brother for god's sake!" Yusuke pointed out, infuriated. "I was supposed to be there for her damn it. . ." His voice weakly trailed down by this point, a single angry tear rolled down from his eye that he didn't even bother to wipe away. "Stupid me and my temper." Seeing this, everyone can't help but feel sympathy toward the teen Spirit Detective. Even Hiei felt sorry for him, but he didn't let it show of course.
"No need to beat yourself up about it." Kurama said as he walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder for comfort. "What has been done is done. There is nothing we can do to reverse it. All we can do now is hope that everything will be okay."
Just as the Urameshi boy was about to reply, A familliar bluenette appeared in her usual pink kimono, looking relieved but worried at the same time.
"Oh, thank goodness all of you are here and well." She said, only to get a small glare from Yusuke.
"Oh, hey Botan!" Kuwabara greeted her with sparkling eyes as his face lit up like the lamps on the Christmas tree.
"Well, not really." Yusuke grumbled out loud. Then a toddler in purple clothing and hat slowly began to join the party.
"Where is she?! WHERE IS THAT GIRL!" He demanded as he floated over the boys. "I want to speak with her this instant!"
"Koenma sir!" Botan called, surprised by the sudden outburst. However, Yusuke's face turned red with anger as soon as his eyes settled on his boss while his ears caught every single word that came from his lips. The brother figure shot up from his seat and marched over Koenma, grabbing him by the collar, aggressively.
"Yusuke!" Kurama tried to warn his friend, but that fell into deaf ears.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?! Unhand me at once-!" The young prince asked furiously, but once he saw the murderous look on the male Spirit Detective, his whole face lost it's colours instantly.
"I can ask you the same question when you had placed us in this damn mess, Toddles Bitch!?" Yusuke yelled in the baby's face who shrunk deeper into his clothes while taking a hard swallow down his throat. "Do you have any idea what Miyu had to go through because of that stupid bastard?!"
"Well, not really, eheheh. But hey, you did defeat him in the end, right?" Koenma pointed out in a stutter as he tried to save himself from his newly recruited Spirit Detective's wrath. Sadly, his choice of words just angered the moody teen boy even more. Before Yusuke can unleash his inner demon, the fury, a nurse came out, her presence putting everything to a halt while everyone, who once sat down got on their feet, immediately.
"How is she?" Kurama didn't hesitate to ask while Yusuke let go of the young prince who flew further away from his chosen Spirit Detective.
"It might take a while, but she will make a full recovery." The nurse informed the group. "However, the injury on her right eye are irreversible."
"What does that suppose to mean?" The Urameshi boy asked rudely, still angry and impatient.
"I-it means that s-she won't be able to see with it." The nurse replied a little nervously as she sensed the overprotective brother's aura.
"What?" Yusuke breathed out as his face softened up along with the others.
"Oh dear. . . " Botan sadly added as she brought one hand up close to her lips.
"And the burn marks?" The redhead questioned, adding more concerns on his pile. Hiei was also worried for sure.
"Ruby is still working on them at the moment." The woman replied. "They might leave permanent marks on the skin but either way, it's a miracle that she even survived all of this. Including the Flame of the Light Phoenix. "At that, everyone's head snapped at the newfound information with curiosity and confusion in their widened eyes. "If she kept on using it she would have been burned into crisp-" "Wait-wait-wait hold the phone lady!" Yusuke cuts in as he waved his hands in a motion to stop the nurse from talking any further.
"What's with this Phoenix thing again? And does this have to do with Miyuki here? Does anything you say even make sense?"
The redheaded demon boy placed a hand on his friend's shoulder to stop him from asking more questions.
"Can we see them?" Kurama politely asked. "The girls I mean." In reply, the woman nodded her head.
"Follow me." She softly said before walking into the hall again, with everyone right behind her trail. In the said room, the water glowed between Ruby's fingers as she was moving her hands up and down on her friend's injury. Most of them were thankfully in a somewhat better shape, but the very one mark that was on Miyuky's shoulder turned out to be a real challenge for the young healer figure.
"Oh, Miyu. You're so impossible." Commented Ruby softly as she looked at the said girl's face, that was covered halfway by bandages. She shook her head sadly as one hand with water gloves removed itself from the burned skin area and moved up to Miyuki's forehead. The water once again began to show it's healing magic. "If you keep on going like that, you will end up giving me a heart attack." Joked the water-bender as a small but sad smile curled up on her lips.
"That's my job alright." A weak and hoarse voice replied to Ruby's statement, jokingly. The girl gasped when and accidentally splashed the water onto Miyuki's face. "Well. . ." The female Spirit Detective croaked as she shut her left eye tight from the cool liquid. "That's one heck of a greeting. Thanks for that Jewels."
"MIYUKI!" Ruby cried out as she removed her hand from her friend's forehead and went down to the left hand. "Thank goodness you're awake. . ." The water-bender girl breathed out in relief as she gave a small squeeze on Miyuki's hand that was brought up to her forehead.
"What's this new technique? " Miyuki asked with a little humor in her voice. "Tear-bending?"
"Oh - ha-ha, you're very funny-." Ruby sarcastically commented but then her words were cut short when the boys suddenly burst through the door and rushed in with panic on their faces. They heard Ruby's outburst and it made their minds think of the worst.
"Is something wrong?" Kurama asked worriedly. "We heard screaming." Within seconds Yusuke's legs carried to the other side of the bed to see the face of his little sister. However, as soon as he saw her sickly pale and tired face he felt his chest being squeezed, but at the same time, he was relieved to see that she was awake and alive.
"Miyu. . ." The brother figure called gently as he sat on the chair that was resting beside the hospital bed.
"Hey there. . . you big punk. . ." The Urameshi girl weakly greeted him along with a weak smile. Yusuke was a bit off guard by that smile again, but nonetheless, he felt a little happy. "Oh look, and hello to you too Poison Ivy, Dark night and Ginger top." The greeting caused Ruby and Yusuke to snort. Kurama shook his head in amusement but smiled nonetheless. Kuwabara crossed his arms and looked away with a pout while Hiei rolled his eyes and huffed in annoyance.
"Thank goodness you came back to us!" The young grim reaper exclaimed happily with a big smile on her face.
"Yes, that's good and all, but now that you're awake. . ." The toddler butted in calmly, but then. . . "I DEMAND AN EXPLANATION!" This made sweatdrops roll down from some of the people's forehead.
"But Koenma sir!" Botan was about to protest but the male Spirit Detective beat her to it.
"Why didn't you tell me you have the power of the Light Phoenix?" The young prince shouted out the question, not caring about the current situation and his mind was too occupied with the news. "THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER MIYUKI!" Koenma snapped at his detective.
"Hey-hey-hey! Watch your tone pacifier brat!" Yusuke warned the young ruler as he stood in front of his injured sister and pointed one finger into the baby's face. Kurama, no doubt tensed up as well, but he remained calm as his eyes were fixated on Koenma, warily.
"Is this really the right time to ask Koenma?" The redhead politely asked the young ruler.
"W-wait, what's going on?" Miyuki asked as she tried to sit up from the comforts of her bed. When she did that, she almost fell onto the bed's headboard in an instant if it wasn't for Kurama's quick reflexes.
"Easy now. You're still recovering." The redhead gently said as he helped his childhood best friend lean onto the iron headboard.
'Ugh, he is such a mom at times. . .' The young teen girl rolled her eyes at that, but she said nothing and just nodded her head. As for Hiei, he can't help but secretly glare daggers at his redheaded partner, clearly jealous of how close he was with Miyuki. "What is Koenma talking about?" The Urameshi girl questioned as her gaze was settled on Kurama. She heard her water-bender partner sighed tiredly.
"He knows Miyuki." She told her with a serious tone.
"What do you-?" The black-haired girl weakly asked with a puzzled look on her face, but then it fell into a look of realization. "Oh. . ." The Urameshi girl breathed out, right before coughing a little.
"Well, sister dear?" The Urameshi boy started as he shoved his hands into his pockets. "Care to explain that little secret of yours that you couldn't share with your big old brother? "
"Oh, just quit being stupid for one second please, I am not in the mood to babysit you boys." Miyuki mumbled out loud as she rubbed her temple with her right hand. At her usual attitude, Yusuke grumbled under his breath but none paid any mind to his bitching tantrum like any other time. 'Man, I feel like crap more than usual. . .' The all wounded up teen concluded as she tried to keep her dizzy-self steady.
"You don't have to talk now if you don't feel like it." I hear my childhood best friend, say it softly to me, probably sensing my discomfort.
"Kurama is right." The young bender agreed as she summoned a small amount of water from her leather pouch and began to place it on her friend's forehead. "Using the Flame of Light for the very first time must have taken a lot out of you in many ways."
"N-o-no, it's-it's fine, really. . ." The Female Spirit Detective reassured, as she stubbornly shook her head.
"You sure?" Her sibling asked with a questioning brow, raising up in the air, clearly feeling concerned for his sister's well being. "You look a little pale." Instead of snapping at him in a snarky way Miyuki used to, she just let out a weak sigh.
"So Miyuki," Koenma started as he floated closer to my bed. "Since when did you know about this?"
"Hn. It all started the week before Yusuke's revival when Keiko and I had to save his body from the fire." The Urameshi girl replied to the ruler, now her blunt manners showing up a little. "When the flames hit my shoulder, it somehow awakened my spiritual self or something. I truly didn't know what was going on until Akio, my previous life-self visited me in my dreams and give me a piece out of the big picture. But don't you like, keep a record of this kind of stuff? "
"Yeah, this is Spirit World after all. Right?" Yusuke also questioned it.
"Well, not really since reincarnations are really-really rare and hard to detect." The toddler replied sternly. "It's like a shooting star. It would happen only a very few times. " With a small exhale Koenma continued on with the original topic. " Anyways, for years this mystical creature, the Phoenix, had been roaming around to bring peace and light over the realms. Back then we had four worlds. The Spirit World, the Demon World, the Human World, and last but not least the Word of Elements. Then Zankoku happened who went crazy. And at the very same time some high-class demon, who is now one of the three kings, went for hunting down the Phoenix and he succeeded in killing it. " Then there was a small pause as sadness covered the young toddler's expression. "However, before it's death, it managed to find a person, who was worthy enough to pass its soul and power to, before it would perish." Suddenly another fit of coughs came out of Miyuki again. Hiei and the others turned their attention to their sick teammate with worrisome.
"I'm fine guys. . ." The girl reassured, but her meek voice betrayed her, just like the heavy eyelid that could drop down any minute. "Continue."
"Very well." The toddler said before clearing his throat. "As I mentioned before, we didn't notice the Phoenix's death until one of our men from the Elite Soldiers had come back from his mission." At that for some reason Koenma stole a small glance from Kurama who immediately perked up like, he realized something. "After that, we immediately sent a team to search for the person and bring him or her here. Coincidentally, Zankoku was defeated for the first time, and right there, they found Akio. Of course, since he didn't do anything bad, we didn't lock him up, but he did possess a legend's power. We didn't really know what to do about it at first until my father gave him now the power to continue on with the Phoenix's duty." Then a sad sigh escaped from the prince's lips. "From then on things went great. That is until another threat showed up that was even far worse than Zankoku." From then on the tension in the air got heavier with sorrow and guilt. . . sadness was spreading in the air. "For help, we turned to Akio. With the Phoenix of Light he saved all life on the universe. . . But. . . this victory also costed his life." An unbearable expression crept up to his face when he finished with the sad history of Akio, a fallen warrior who he had admired so much not as a great legend to listen to, but as a hero who cared for others and tried his very best. "After his death, we never heard of Akio again, nor saw him ever visit our headquarters. We searched for his soul for many years, but. . . we eventually gave up on it." Then a long pause took over, but no words were heard. The gang was stunned by the long and tragic story, and no one dared to say a word at first. Then the young prince placed his finger under his chin with thoughtful eyes looking away. "But now that I think about it more, I guess this can pretty much explain the sudden change of your fate." Botan gasped a little and covered her mouth with her hands.
"My sudden change of fate?" The Urameshi girl rose an eyebrow at that. She then began to cough a little.
"What is that suppose to mean if you don't mind me asking Koenma?" Ruby asked politely as she gently rubbed her friend's back who kept on coughing a little.
Koenma suddenly felt nervous and it even showed on his pale face.
"What's with that look sucker face? Need a diaper change?" Yusuke joked sarcastically but for some reason Kuwabara nudged him. "What?" The brother figure questioned with annoyance dripping from his tone.
"Umm. . ." Koenma finally started as he managed to face the female spirit detective and look at her in the eye. "What I meant by that is. . ." He was really hesitant to break this to her, not to mention to the whole people who seems to deeply care about each other. Even though a few don't dare to show it. "After meeting your brother, I accidentally came across your file." The young prince began. "I looked into it and it said that you died right after you were born, but by some miracle, you came back five minutes after you were. . . 'legally dead' as the human doctors had announced it."
"What?!" Kuwabara and Yusuke particularly screamed at the newfound information while the others were stunned by shock.
"Wait a minute, so you were planning on killing her off from the start?!" The male Detective demanded enraged.
"Technically speaking, she was stillborn." Koenma pointed out to an even angrier looking Yusuke before turning to Miyuki who held a blank expression but with eyes that screamed disbelief. "But for some reason, your soul remained there while still having contact with the supernatural. . ."
"And Akio just happened to cross by and take the opportunity to reborn in Miyuki's body." The Fox-Demon concluded, clearly familiar with the situation his friend was in.
"So like two souls in one body?" The Water-Bender curiously asked. The question mostly went to her injured friend who gave a shake of ahead.
"It doesn't feel like it. . ." Miyuki finally spoke up, but then again another fit of coughs attacked her.
"But now what?" Kuwabara suddenly asked.
"Yeah sucker face, what is going to happen to my sister?" Yusuke asked with some concern.
"Is King Enma will be involved in this?" The blunette girl asked, clearly worried about what the king is going to say about the return of the legend himself. Or in this case, herself.
"I honestly don't know." Koenma replied with honesty as he looked down with his eyes closed, not really knowing how things will go after this shocking discovery. But the least he can do is try to talk things out with his father.
Something he was afraid to do, because knowing King Enma himself, he doesn't take such miracles. . . or more like slip ups like these lightly. . .
So no one knows what to expect . . .
