But this story is not one of those.
There is no prince charming or a knight in shining armour, but I can guarantee you that there will be dragons with flames, demons from many kinds, creatures from legends, and battles like no other.
But the greatest fight of all is. . . The conflict within the heart with weapons that many know as. . .
Emotions. . .

My eye fluttered open and the first thing I felt something. . . wet. . . In an instant, I shot up from where I was lying. The entire floor was wet. No. It was flooded with crystal clear water. It was strange thing to wake up to, and just as I am about to think that this can't be any more stranger, my ears then caught the sound of a loud and bird-like screech. It was really loud and filled with power. . . Lifting my stare up higher I see a . . . glowing water wall standing in front of me. Carefully I got up to my feet and slowly walked over with my left hand reaching out to touch it. I didn't notice how the voices I once heard were suddenly drained out of the entire area until my hand finally got to touch the icy surface of that mysterious wall.
Another quiet moment later, the screech came back again, but this time it was louder. It came with a claw and flames hitting the wall with a loud thud. I gasp in fright and stumbled backward then, unfortunately and not so gracefully, landed on my butt, splashing the water around me while my stare remained on the gigantic flaming bird that is desperately trying to get out of the cage like structure.
Is that. . . is that the phoenix itself? The Phoenix of Light?
"You got that right little one." A familiar voice confirmed it as he walked over and helped me back on my feet by putting his hands under my armpits and hoisting me up. "She looks majestic isn't she?"
"It's a she?" I asked in wonder.
"Yeah." Akio laughed a little as he held onto my hand and lead me close to the wall. While doing that, I noticed how his previously cheerful attitude turned into a serious one now. "You see this?" The white-haired boy asked me as he pointed at the wall in front of me. However, when his finger made contact with it, a magical seal appeared on the surface with many runes and symbols.
"Y-yes." I finally replied after my eyes take all the visual information. Akio gave a small nod to me.
"After your first use of her powers, I placed a safety seal." The Jack-Frost figure began to explain it to me. "I remember when I first used the Light's powers. If it wasn't for Toya and the other Shinobis's help I would have been dead during the time when I attempted to tame the Phoenix."
As he was telling me these, I felt a little confused.
"How does it work?" I eventually asked. "The power I mean."
"Everything is almost like fire bending just, more powerful and dangerous." Akio began. " It's almost like a technique that is called 'The Dragon of the Darkness Flame.' If you make one wrong move and don't stand your ground, it will take control and then 'BAMM'. You will become the victim of your own technique."
"Like Rando." I breathed out as the memories of the Genkai tournament went through my mind.
"He knew the mechanics of the techniques he had stolen from the Psychics, but since he never had any proper training, they became his downfall."
"Hmpf, I am impressed by how much you remember." Akio said with admiration in his voice.
"Hn." I hummed out loud. "Photographic memories." I replied lazily while shrugging my shoulders.
"Hm?" My previous life titled his head to the side with confusion.
"It's like your eyes are acting like a camera." I began to explain. "You see the picture in front of you and when you think it's necessary to keep it, you snapped your own visual copy and your memory would keep it in your library. It mostly helps me when I learn for the tests and exams, but now I also use it for my strategies when it comes to fights."
"That's good." Akio nodded his head.
"So, does that mean I won't be able to use the flames again? Like ever?" I questioned as I turned back to the beautiful white Phoenix in front of me.
"You will have some access to it." He assured me as he placed a hand on my shoulder. "Small fragments that you had unlocked already or other ones that are still developing along the way, but for the main parts of this flame, you will have to wait and train a lot. You got it?" In reply, I nodded my head.
"I will do my best." I told him with determination and the burning desire to become worthy of the story. While looking at the young-adult, I see his eyes held a small twinkle and by the looks of it, he is probably smiling under his mask.
"I know you will." He said before ruffling my black locks. I felt annoyed but at the same time it was a nice feeling. . .
"What about the seal?" I suddenly asked.
"I will unlock it for you, once the time is right." Akio replied before a mirror appeared out of nowhere and floated in front of me. I looked at my reflection closely. Nothing out of the ordinary was there, but then suddenly the main symbol of the seal appeared in the middle of my forehead.
With that knowledge, I woke up. My tired eye turned to the window. Then something hit my nose. The sweet scent of roses. Turning my head to the bedside table that was beside me I saw the three different coloured roses in the vase.
A small smirk curled up on my lips, knowing full well who gave those.
The next day, I was in Koenma's office where he will give me the updates about the talk with his father.
"I talked with my father about the matter and he said it's alright for you to go." The young ruler told me with a serious tone. "However, you cannot use it's full potential unless it's absolutely necessary, and for the time being, keep on training. Most importantly, learn to keep it under control. Understood?"
"Yes." I agreed with him in an empty tone as I bowed my head to the toddler. Then once again I began to cough a little bit. "So does it mean I'm not fired yet?" I curiously asked but also give a small hint of sarcasm into it.
"No, not even close." Koenma replied with a shake of his head. "So, you're still working as your brother's partner and team. Though from now you will be off duty for a week. That should give enough time for you to rest a little."
"Sounds good to me." I replied a little bluntly before giving another small fit of coughs as my right hand covered my mouth. But I won't comply. In fact, I was happy with this small break. "Can I go now?" I quickly asked right before another coughing fit came.
"Sure thing, and don't worry, everything has been taken care of." The baby prince informed me and I gave a nod as my response before leaving his office through his automatic double doors and go find my ride. And as my ride, I meant my bluenette assistant in the pink kimono.
"Come on Miyuki, let's get you home." The young Grim Reaper announced with her bubbly voice as she escorted me out of the workplace, gently. Once we got out to the gates, Botan summoned her paddle and pat the spot behind her. I hopped onto it and held the young teen by the waist, then the next thing we knew we were in the sky with an incredible speed. "Are you feeling alright dear?" The blunette asked me with concern after a long while of just flying silently. "How is your left arm?"
"Hn." Was all I can reply since at the moment I still felt so emotionally exhausted to the core and it felt awful. . . After telling Hiei about Sanyu, and what I did I felt somewhat at ease but at the same time my stomach just flipped in a way that felt unfamiliar and also just. . . weird. . .
I took a deep breath and once I let out calmness washed over me.
"You seem a little lost there dear." The young Grim Reaper pointed out. "Is everything alright?"
Miyuki didn't answer for a good long moment, but after inhaling from the cool fresh air, she dared to spoke up again.
"Hey, uuh. . . Botan. . . ?" The Urameshi girl began.
"Yes?" The blunette girl asked as her pink orbs were now filled with interest, looking like a curious cat.
"Have you ever. . . ?" The Urameshi girl began but was cut off by her own groan of annoyance. "I really don't know how to ask this?"
"Is something bothering you?" Botan asked worriedly, in a motherly way.
"Well. . . you can say that. . ." The female Spirit Detective replied as she. . . shyly turned away with a little pink dust of blush creeping up on her cheeks. Something that didn't go unnoticed by the young Grim Reaper. At first the bluenette was confused because she had never seen her friend like that, but either way, she found that look on the Urameshi girl really cute, so she wasted no time to make fun of it. In a friendly matter that is.
"Ouuh, are those apples on your face, or are you blushing? And why is that-?" Botan teased but then suddenly 'realization' hit her when she remembered how she bumped into Kurama who wanted to pay a visit to his friend. Then her memory jogged that one moment when the young Grim Reaper found Miyuki with Kurama in the park all alone. Immediately, the fangirl within the girl popped out, already accepting her guess without problem. "Oooooohh, is it. . . 'Boy' trouble?" She now started to act a little mischievously as her Cheshire cat side is showing on her face.
"Tsk, no. Don't be ridiculous." The Female Spirit Detective replied bluntly, but the blushing on her face never stopped, which is 'confirming' the blunette's suspicions.
"Aweee, there is no need to be embarrassed about it little Miyu." Botan teasingly reassured as her finger poked her friend on her reddish cheek. "Love is a beautiful thing. Having a crush on someone is not a bad thing at all."
"Hn. Just shut up and keep on flyi- LOOK OUT!" Miyuki rolled her eyes but then she suddenly exclaimed in full voice making Botan turn around and yelp in fright when she notices a lamp post wanting to meet the girls 'face to face'. Luckily the young Grim Reaper managed to dodge it in time before they can collide into it. The girls let out a sigh of relief when they survived.
Eventually, they arrived at the Urameshis' flat.
"If something happening with your Phoenix side, then give it a call." Botan reminded the girl with a kind voice. Miyuki said nothing but gave a mute nod as her reply. "And if you need help with your boy trouble's you're free to ask me. Meow~." The blunette mischievously added before flying off with a humongous grin on her face, now her mind probably planning on a ship name for her favourite pair.
"Hn." Miyuki scoffed at her assistance stupidity before giving another mental eyeroll. "What a foolish girl." With that, she walked into the flat where her brother and mother had been waiting for her arrival. Immediately Atsuko almost tackled her daughter to the ground as soon as Miyuki walked into the living room. For once the teen girl had no problem returning the affection. After that small loving moment and some lunch, the Urameshi siblings continued on with their normal lives.
Of course, when they got into school many people, mostly teachers questioned the girl's bandaged head that covered half of her face while a mask also covered the Uramesh girl's lips to keep herself from coughing something that might potentially infect others. The left arm was held up in a sling as well. Some just ignored it but a few either made fun of it or spread false rumours about either how Miyuki's brother was the cause of the girl's injuries or how the injured person herself is just faking it all to get more attention on herself.
Anyone would find it ridiculous, but after their first impression with Yusuke, they thought his sister was just as bad as him. Either way, their lives were the same, and just rolled with it. Everything was as normal as it can be. With a list of homework assignments to do, school work, ect.
However, after like four days later, Botan showed up once again with another mission, but this time, they only requested Yusuke, Kurama, and Hiei. Kuwabara got quite traumatized by the last mission, and that made up his mind the next day about not wanting to participate in any of that mess. So the next time he to the chance, he told Yusuke and Botan that he is quitting from the Spirit Detective Bussiness. The Urameshi siblings didn't really care about it since this is mostly Kazuma's fault to drag himself into the mess in the first place.
Either way, the Urameshi boy took the case and the redhead was there for support. The Fire Demon reluctantly agreed, because Spirit World made him. However, when the three boys went on the new mission. . . Things turned out to be a lot more confusing and complicated than they expected it to be. . . by the things they did not even count on. . . at all. . .
The weekends eventually came and I was in my room doing the many homework assignments that I had missed from my absence. Yusuke was, of course, off to a new mission while Atsuko was out at work or other errands that she would usually do. I can just only hope that it's not what I think it is.
Yes, she started to go on a small job not long after the fire incident, but sure her drinking addiction didn't cease. Although nowadays at least she is trying to do better than before.
Even though I didn't show it, I was proud of her development. If only I have the strength to do that either. . .
Just as I finished with my English essay, my hand reached for the glass of water. As soon as I swallowed the last drop from it the familiar ringing sound of my communicator went off right next to my study lamp. Raising a curious brow I placed the glass back down and picked up the device. Pushing the button on it, the top lifted up, revealing a panicked Botan on the screen.
"Miyuki, this is Botan, can you read me?" The blunette grim reaper asked me, urgently.
"Loud and clear Blue-bird." I replied with a bored tone. "What's your emergency?"
"It's the boys Miyuki!" Botan replied. "They got into a . . . Little problem and we need someone to get them." That immediately got my full attention.
"Where are they? What happened!? Are they-?!" I frantically began to ask those questions as I shot up from my desk and chair. By accident, I knocked the glass off of the table. Gasping in surprise, I reached one hand toward it to grab it. However. . . What happened next was beyond unbelievable.
Something shot out of my hand and it made the glass fly while being trapped in a ball of air. . . .
WHAT?!
I was paralyzed in the same position while my widened eye tried to take this all in.
Did I. . . Did I just freaking air-bend? That's impossible. The very first time I talked with Master Yara properly, she confirmed that I was just a water-bender. Even her sister, Genkai.
But now here I am, fucking air-bending the glass. . .
"MIYUKI!" The voice of Botan spanned me out of my shock which also interrupted my concentration, letting the glass fall to the floor and shatter into pieces with a loud noise.
"Miyuki?!" I gasped in fright as soon as I heard my mother's voice calling behind my door. When did she freaking get home? "Is everything okay in there?"
Oh, Shit!
"Y-yes mother!" I called back as I picked up the shards and throw them in the small bin I have under my desk. "I'm fine, just got a little accident with your glass bottle."
"Oh, okay." Atsuko replied and then I paused for a second before turning back to my communicator.
"Come and get me!" I told her firmly and in a whisper since I don't want mom to know about this job of mine and Yusuke's.
"I'm on my way with Ruby." Was all I got from the blunette before hanging up on me. I quickly cleaned up my mess and went to my closet to grab some clothes for the mission.
Just as I was about to reach for them I began to cough harshly again, feeling my throat go as dry as the desert.
"Crap, I feel awful." I commented out in frustration before finally grabbing something to wear. No, these idiots need help and this stupid sickness won't stop me from doing that. Everything was now put on, my hair bun is held up tight and stable, kunai bag on my thigh, left arm now in perfect moving condition meaning the sling no longer needed, and right after I tied the scarf belt around my waist a knock came from my balcony timing. I went toward my balcony and opened the door for the two girls. "So where are they?" I demanded urgently and of course worriedly about their safety.
"I thought I already explained it." The bluenette girl told me a little confused. "Didn't you listen?" At that, my body was stunned. Then I remembered the little incident I had minutes ago.
"Doesn't matter. Let's go to Spirit World and get them." Ruby pointed out.
"Right!" Botan agreed while I nodded my head. I hopped onto the girl's paddle and held onto her tight with my good arm. Ruby was using her water wings to catch up to us.
Once we got to Koenma's office we didn't even waste time to get through the portal and look for the boys. Before that though, the toddler bitch warned us to get some warm clothing for the location where the boys are currently in. Thankfully, Botan had some extra clothes in her wardrobe for all three of us. When we got them on we wasted no time to jump through the portal.
As soon as we stepped outside, we found ourselves in a place that was covered with a thick layer of white snow and ice. Geez, Koenma wasn't joking. This weather is bone-chilling.
"Is this Antarctica or what?" I grumbled out loud as I tried my best not to get knocked down by the cold wind that just slapped me in the face.
"How are we going to find them?" Little Gem asked as she stomped her way toward me. "They can be anywhere."
"Well, from what I heard, Yusuke said he and the boys will be here somewhere to meet us." Botan informed us. Just as I was about to suggest something I suddenly heard something from the distance. Like a cry of a little boy or something. . . I couldn't pinpoint out but this was in fact human.
"Did you hear that?" I asked the girls only to earn confused eyes and shaking heads.
"I heard nothing." The young Grim reaper replied. I began to look around the place once more. That's when my ears caught that strange and distant sound again. Not only that, but I felt something just hit me again. That gut feeling came back, however, it felt different. Like someone just shot a needle inside my head. Then I felt my right wrist is burning up. In the very place where the destiny mark is.
'Hiei.' I mentally called his name as my worry began to rise up. I looked down at my feet- Wait, that's right.
I crouched down and moved my hands in a firm motion in order to remove the snow from my view. When the spot had been cleaned up I placed my hands on the ground and closed my eyes. Taking a deep breath I began to concentrate on the vibration of the ground and the boys. While doing that, I also felt my shoulder warming up a tiny bit. That's when I knew they were somewhere close. . . But for some reason. . . their energy felt weaker than before.
"Miyu?" Ruby called me with concern as she crouched down next to me.
"I can feel them." I told her in a whisper. "They are not far from here, but their spirit energy feels weak for some reason."
"Okay." My friend nodded her head with a serious tone. "Let's go." I nodded in agreement before turning in the direction where my brother and our teammates are and began to skate away with Ruby not far behind while Botan flew above us.
After snowboarding for like hours we suddenly found ourselves at the edge of a huge ice canyon. It was deep and on the very bottom, I see a river. As strange as it looked my senses are saying that they are down there. Without any hesitation, I jumped down between the crack.
"MIYUKI!" I hear Botan cry out in worry but it was unnecessary as soon as the female spirit detective pulled out a throwing knife and stabbed it into the icy column and slide on the surface while the blade is sinking in a little. Once I got lower and lower, my left shoulder began to burn again. Thankfully it didn't hurt me just like in the other times. Seeing that I was not too far from the bottom I managed to land safely. The blade got stuck, but with the help of my water bending, I got it back. "Goodness me, you almost gave me a heart attack." The bluenette commented breathlessly as she placed a hand over her heart. I roll my eyes at that, but then I felt someone smack me on the back of my head.
"I thought we talked about this!" My water-bender partner scolded me with hands on her hips and a stern look on her face. I let out a small huff as I mentally rolled my eyes at her motherly act.
"So where to now?" My assistance asked. I rubbed the back of my head a little before putting my concentration on the boys. My left hand was raised in the air and like a metal detector, it began to search.
"Over there." I instructed as I stepped onto the river's wave with my icy shoes and surf away while looking back and forth with my left hand in front of me. It gets warmer by every second as I surfed further and further with my ice board.
"What are you doing if you don't mind me asking?" Botan asked as she and Ruby fly by my side.
"Searching for Yusuke and the others with my spiritual awareness." I told her without looking away from my path! "I don't know how but the phoenix on my left shoulder had always helped me out finding my way or others! "
"I see!" Botan replied with a bit of understatement in her tone.
"Look! There is a cave!" Ruby informed us as she pointed a finger at the said cave. I stopped on my track when I feel my whole arm getting warmer, now that it was pointed at the cave's entrance.
"Bingo!" My assistant answered on my behalf as we began to approach the small cave entrance.
"Hello?" The Water-Bender called in as she walked in. Suddenly something blue and shiny glowed in the depth of the cave's darkness.
Oh, no. This can only be one thing.
"SPIRIT GUN!" A very familiar voice cried out before a big blast for Spirit Bullet was shot out of the cave. Quickly, I tackled Ruby to the ground before that huge spirit-bullet would hit either of us. Once the bullet was gone, I got off of Ruby and helped her back up on her feet.
"Yusuke? Is that you?" Botan tried once again but now with caution. On cue, a figure came out of the shadows.
I can feel my heart sank to my shoes while my eyes opened up wide enough that my eyeballs would pop out of their eye sockets as soon as I see my brother. . . Or more like little brother? . . .
The little boy looked at me, and I looked back at him, completely dumbstruck. Features all the same but he looked smaller and younger like he had aged back like five years.
"B-Botan?" Yusuke asked in shock with his voice also sounding a little high pitched. His stare eventually turned to me and my water-bender partner with relief in his eyes.
"Y-Y-Yusuke?" The assistant questioned, clearly in shock by his new appearance just like me and Ruby. "I-Is that really you?" She pulled the question right out of my mouth because my mind is still on the denial section.
"Y-yeah, I know b-but can we g-get out of here first?" My brother asked impatiently and urgently while trying to hug himself and create some warmth to his body that is shiver violently.
"Where is Kurama and Hiei?" Ruby asked the little kid.
"They are in there, and they don't look good." Yusuke told us as he pointed his thumb over his shoulder. Immediately I run into the cave with Ruby by my side. We had a little trouble when we saw how dark it looked on the inside, but thankfully Ruby thought quickly and summoned some water that she began to spin, making it glow brightly enough for us to have some good vision in the dark.
"Guys!" Ruby called as she and I rushed to the two young boys. No doubt they were Shuichi and Hiei, in the same condition my brother is in.
Something I was afraid of.
I carefully approached the two. First was the five-year-old looking child with spiky hair, who was no doubt Hiei. My hand went for his small neck and pressed my fingers against his skin.
I didn't felt the pulse, which got me a little worried, but then I remembered how Shuichi had told me demon hearts don't work in the same way human hearts do. I pulled my hand away and pulled my scarf off of my face so I can lean my ear closer to his lips. That's when I felt the warm puff of air and huffs coming out of the little figure's mouth. A sigh of relief escaped from me but then I turned serious and stripped out of my warm coat. Once I was done with that I began to wrap it around Hiei's tiny figure. When it was done my attention then turned to the other boy with the redhead.
"Shuichi?" I softly called him as my right hand grabbed the boy's shoulder and shook him back to consciousness. My childhood best friend stirred awake, then he turned to look at me with one eye open. That's when I hear my heart shatter once again as soon as my good eye took this other appearance in. . .
"M-Miyuk-ki?" He meeked out weakly before turning to Ruby as well. "Ruby. . . ?" Then he began to cough a little while his body was shaking like crazy.
"Hey-hey, take it easy champ." I tried to calm him as I pull off my scarf and wrap it around his neck. "Everything is going to be alright now." Then I turned to my water-bender partner, who threw the water lamp away and took of her jacket to wrap it around Rosehead.
"There, this should do the trick." Little Gem said gently while I picked up Hiei and held him close, laying his head over my chest.
"T-t-thank you. . . " The redhead said before his eyes closed once more before going completely limp and fall forward into mine and Ruby's arms.
" Now let's get out of here." I told everyone who agreed with me with a nod of their heads. With that Ruby picked up the tired-looking Rosehead from the ground and placed him on her back while I turned back to Hiei and lifted him up with his head resting on my chest while I was holding him close. Then without another word, we finally left the cold place.
By the time the team made their way up to Genkai's and Yara's temple the three little boys were asleep due to being all beaten up and exhausted from their mission.
Botan was carrying Yusuke on her back. Ruby did the same with Kurama who subconsciously tightened his embrace around the water-bender's neck and snuggled closer like an affectionate child. The action made Ruby turn into many shades of red for sure as her small crush on that very boy began to grow larger and larger without her mind's knowledge.
As for Miyuki, she was carrying Hiei securely in her arms and during their journey upon those stairs, never once noticed the female detective that Hiei subconsciously leaned onto her chest. Listening closely to the music that a steady rhythmic pattern was playing inside.
Her heart.
Something that soothed him and gave a sense of peace and safety that he had never experienced in his entire life until now.
