Disclaimer I don't own Warhammer 40k. Warhammer 40k belongs to Games Workshop.
The sky scraper was one of the highest buildings in the city, it had taken years and dozens of lives to build it.
It took only five minutes and some demolition charges to tear it down. when the charges exploded they ripped parts out of the skyscraper's base. The building shook and then began to fall.
Now, if this would have been a regular explosion the building would have collapsed on in itself. But this wasn't a regular demolition. Instead of collapsing like every sane explosion master had it done it was more like a giant tree. It began to tip over and then buried buildings and streets on it's way. Just as it was planed.
I stood on the turret of the Baneblade and observed the dust cloud created by the explosion and fall of the building. Then I turned my gaze away and looked in front of me down the main street. Next to me behind barricades were guardsmen, PDF and even civilians. If the plan would work as it was intended then the main bulk of the heretics and daemons would come down this road.
But for this plan to work the men and women around me would have to hold the ground. Time for some inspiration.
I turned around to face the troops and took a deep breath.
''People of the imperium! Today we unite! To purge the great enemy that dared to threaten us, they have come here to die by our blades and guns. You will not fear! You will not falter! You will not give a single step to the enemy! For emperor and mankind, we will hold the line or die standing!''
The soldiers and civilian roared filled with courage and rage and prepared their weapons waiting for wat was to come.
And here they came, like a wave of flesh, blades, guns and things that were most probably the beginnings of chaotic mutation.
''FIRE!'' I roared to the soldiers. And fire they gave. The wave was hit by a wall of laser, plasma, rockets and bullets. Obliterating the first lines and slowing down those who were following.
I myself was manning a heavy stubber on top of the Baneblade. Without actually taking ame I poured bullets into the mass of flesh that came down the road. Only to pause wen the superheavy tank fired its main cannon ripping holes into the enemy lines.
I began to grin everything was working fine our kill zone was efficient and all in all we were doing good. ''Let's just hope that it will stay that way.'' I thought.
But then I felt something. It was the feeling that you get when you know that something bad is coming. Something very bad.
Suddenly I saw the tracers of artillery flying up behind the cultists and then crashing right into their lines at first it was simple friendly fire but instead of explosions the impacts of the shells created a screen of smoke.
It started with a low rumble that shook the still intact buildings around us. Then it turned into the sound of heavy stomps.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
Some soldiers looked around to locate the source of the sound. ''Keep firing!'' I bellowed and the soldiers concentrated again on the targets in front of them.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Lecter began to whine and then jumped to my side and barked in the direction of whatever the thing was.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A giant shape began to form in the smoke tall as the houses around it and at least as broad as my Baneblade.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Then it came out of the smoke. Towering over everything and actually blocking the sun behind it. Then it released a deafening roar that rose over the cheering of the cultists.
My face turned white as I stared up into the glowing eyes of the Chaos Knight.
Everything was according to the commisars plan the doors were shut and the charges were placed.
By now Joren was beyond terrified. His left-hand held the detonator while his right gripped a las pistol with such force that his knuckles turned white. The words of the commissar were still in his mind.
He looked around himself to check the situation. By now the bunker was filled with civilians and some soldiers all huddled tightly together with fear on their faces. Some were even praying to the emperor in hope that he may save them. Somewhere he heard a baby cry.
But suddenly he saw something that made his heart stop. For a second his gaze had landed on a young woman cradling a baby in her arms. But then she pulled something out from under her clothes.
At first, he had thought it to be just some toy for the baby. But when he looked closer, he saw something that wasn't right. A small pin at the side of the ''toy''. The pin of a frag grenade.
Then everything slowed down he pushed himself through the crowd as fast as he could to get close to the woman. But he wasn't fast enough. The women lifted her baby and grenade over her head.
''Blood for the blood god! Skulls for his throne!'' she screeched and reached for the pin.
Well ladies and gentlemen,
