A/N: Ok so here is the second chapter, enjoy.
Chapter 2- A new life
Subaru: "what just happened?... Where am I?"
Subaru looked around, he was sitting under a tree in a grassy plain, there was nothing around, only grass, a forest, and a village nearby in the far distance
Subaru: "what is this place? Where's my house, the neighborhood, where is everyone?"
At this moment Subaru felt fear, anxiety, and grief, he was in a panic, he just said goodbye to his parents when he finally decided to go back to school again and now he was in a different location which he didn't know about. But there was another thing he noticed that was also strange about his situation, he looked down at his hands and noticed something….his hands were smaller, his body was thinner, his voice sounded softer, he was a child again.
Subaru: "what's going on here, this joke isn't funny," Subaru said staring down at his hands
Subaru walked around for a bit wanting to get used to his new surroundings, to figure out what just happened to him, and why he was a kid again
Subaru: "Well I don't know what's going on but maybe there are some people in that village over there that can tell me what this place is," Subaru thought as he looked in the distance.
As Subaru looked at the village from afar he saw some people walking out of it, not knowing what to do Subaru just stood still and watched
?: " Hey, can you believe what Ram-sama just did today, her Oni power is amazing, she truly is the next successor to replace the chief and lead the village"
?: "Yea she truly is a prodigy, if only she had two horns"
?: "Yea, then there's that sister of hers, her Oni power is only sub-par, I don't know why Ram-sama pays much attention to her, she'll only drag her down in the end"
?: "hopefully she…wait…do you smell that?...it can be"
?: "Yea I smell it too, look over there," one of the figures said pointing to the grassy plane
Subaru: "shit, what now"
Subaru not knowing what to do decided to duck down in the grass to not get spotted. Why was he hiding, isn't this what he wanted? He needed to talk to people about what this place was but yet, why did he feel the urge to hide? These people weren't ordinary people, he thought to himself, they were giving off an aura that he couldn't explain, which made him scared to face them.
?: "Hey kid, there's no point in hiding, we already know your there, we can smell you, you know"
Subaru: "How! Do I smell that bad? I know I spend most of my time inside my room and rarely do much but being able to smell me from that far is ridiculous!" Subaru thought to himself
?: "Ok we will give you one last chance to come out yourself, if you don't we will come to you"
Subaru: "What do I do, what do I do, what do I do!?" Subaru began to panic
?: "Well I guess it's the second option then, stay put kid we'll come to you"
Subaru began to panic even more and decided he had one more trump card up his sleeve, that was guaranteed to work, which was running away of course. Subaru began to run into the tall grass using his small figure as an advantage to hide amongst the grass while running.
?: "He's running, chase after him!" one of the figures yelled
Subaru: "Dammit, how do I get myself into these situations?
Subaru began to run, run as fast as he could, when he began to run he saw a forest nearby and decided that would be the best way to evade them. He jumped over rocks, ducked under low branches, and just ran, but eventually, his small body began to tire and he collapsed from exhaustion. Hearing the voices get closer to him, Subaru saw a small lake nearby, not knowing what else to do he crawled to the lake dragging his body that was exhausted from running for so long, and decided to fall In and hold his breath. After a few minutes had passed Subaru heard the two voices pass him.
Subaru: "*Huff* *Huff*, who are they? why are they chasing after me?" Subaru thought to himself as he finally came up for air from holding his breath for so long underwater
Crawling out of the lake Subaru laid down completely flat on the mud trying to catch his breath after what just occurred. After a while, Subaru finally was able to get up and sit down on a nearby stone. Now being alone Subaru again looked down at his hands that were so childlike
Subaru: "Why? Why is this happening? A few seconds ago I was getting ready to go back to school for the first time in ages then I find myself in a completely new location being chased down by a bunch of crazy people? Not only that but I'm a child again? I don't know what's going on but If this is a dream please wake me up now" Subaru said looking down at his hands
Subaru: "Mom...Dad, I don't know where I am right now or why I'm a child again, but please don't worry about me, I promise I'll be back"
After a while of silence, Subaru thought he finally evaded the two strangers chasing him down, until he heard footsteps coming closer in the nearby bush
?: "The smell is coming from over there, don't let me get away!"
Subaru: "What now? dammit, I thought I lost them"
Subaru tried to get up but he already exhausted all his stamina from running before, but using the little bit of willpower he had left over he stood up again and ran as fast as he could from the two voices in the distance. Running as far as he could Subaru stopped and hid in a nearby bush trying to cover his scent in some of the wet mud to mask his presence from the two who were chasing him. Since Subaru was no longer a teenager and had such a small body he was able to hide in the bush nearly completely without being detected
Subaru: "I don't know why I'm a kid again but at least this small body has some perks to it"
?: "I smell him, Over there in that bush!"
Subaru: "What! how!? I thought I was completely hidden, how were they able to smell me!?"
Getting up again Subaru tried to run some more but this time his body finally gave out on him from all the running, having no more willpower left in him Subaru collapsed into the wet mud face first
Subaru: "Dammit, I thought I could run longer than that, curse you small body of mine!" he screamed
Of course, Subaru was a fit guy when he was a teenager but all of a sudden he was stuck in a child's body, meaning his stamina was less than before, not to mention his small legs that couldn't run far distances since he was a kid now, even though his new body had some perks to it, it still, of course, came with its drawbacks
?: "wow kid, you evaded us longer than I thought pretty impressive, calm down we're not going to hurt you, we just want to talk," One of the men said
?: "Yea, if we really wanted to we could have killed you right then and there" The other man spoke up
Subaru: "but how? I don't understand, How were you able to track me? I hid under the grass, covered myself in the dirt, and ran into the forest, there's no way you would be able to find me so easily," said Subaru with a tired breath
?: "you don't know? It's because of our high sense of smell kid, I thought you would know that"
Subaru: "how the hell was I supposed to know that!?"
?: "you really don't know huh, well let's just talk for now ok? The man said in a calm tone
Subaru: "alright, I'm fine with that"
Subaru getting up from the ground decided to sit down on a nearby rock, while the two men stood before him
Subaru: " So, what do you want with me?" Subaru asked In a scared tone, with his voice starting to break out of fear
Alec: "Woah slow down kid, let's start with introductions first before we get into what we want, I'll start first my name is Alec, and this is my friend, Drew"
Drew: "it's a pleasure to meet you," he said in a kind tone
Alec: "So what's your name kid?"
Subaru: "Subaru, Natsuki Subaru," he said in an anxious tone, as he looked up at the two men who seemed nice
Now in clear view, Subaru got a full view of what these guys looked like. Alec was a somewhat tall guy, his hair was blonde, with green eyes, he looked like he was around somewhat in his early 20's with not a large body build. Drew, on the other hand, was a guy standing a little bit above Alec with a build much bigger than his, his eyes were brown and his hair was brown and they looked about the same age.
Alec: "So kid, let's get on with the questioning, We didn't chase you down for no reason you know, what I want to ask you is important"
Subaru: "Ok then ask it already, I don't know what's so important to ask of a kid my age, but go ahead"
Alec: "Woah, the attitude on this one is strong, he might be competition for Ram-sama in that regard," he laughed
Alec: "Well anyway, the thing we wanted to ask you is, are you an Oni?" he said with a straight face
Subaru: "Huh an Oni? As in a demon? I don't know what you're talking about"
Alec: "An Oni you know, from the Oni race?"
Subaru: " An Oni? Well I'm sorry if I got your hopes high but I'm not an Oni, from no Oni race, I'm human"
Alec: "human? Did you hit your head hard kid when you were running or something? because you are no human, you smell like an Oni"
Subaru: "Are these guys crazy or something? Oni? Oni race? What are they talking about? Subaru thought to himself"
Subaru knew when he saw them, that they were no ordinary people, he knew that from the strange aura he was sensing from them, but them not being human? They must be crazy, and to think that he wasn't human as well, was even more insane to him.
Drew: "you see, we Oni are on the verge of extinction, are people are getting wiped out by the second, so there's only a handful of us left, so when we smelled you we had to confirm our suspicions"
Subaru: "Ok but what does that have to do with me? Like I said I'm not a part of this race or whatever, I'm fully human"
Alec: "You're still going on about that? Look kid, we smelled you, you smell like an Oni, not a human, case closed, our noses don't lie to us, our sense of smell is one of the highest among all the races in the world and in Lugnica"
Subaru: "Lugnica? I've never heard of that place before, is that where I am now?" Subaru thought to himself
Subaru "Ok then, since you asked your questions, I think it would only be fair if I asked you guys some questions"
Alec: "Ask away, but don't make your question too long, I might fall asleep"
Subaru: "That's not a very polite thing to say you know!" Subaru said back
Subaru: "Well my question is simple anyways, so you're saying this place where we are now is called Lugnica? Where not in a place called Japan right now? Subaru asked curiously
Alec: "Japan? never heard of it before but maybe the old man might know what you're talking about, he knows everything"
Drew: "Alec! Show some respect to the village elder, call him by his name, not old man" Drew said with an angry voice
Alec: "alright, alright, calm down, you really are a stick in the mud you know that?
As the two argued, Subaru thought to himself
Subaru: "so I'm really not in Japan...Mom, Dad" Tears started to form on Subaru's face
In the middle of their argument, Alec and Drew turned to face Subaru as they heard the sound of crying
"..."
Alec: "Hey Subaru, I'm sorry if I upset you, I know I'm not the nicest of people but I didn't mean to hurt you if its something I said"
Drew: "I second this"
Subaru: "no it's nothing, don't worry about it, I'm okay just something I remembered"
Alec: "Well if you want to know about that place called Japan, maybe the chief will know what you're talking about, he might be able to help you, just come with us to our village, and hey maybe while where there we can convince you that you are an Oni, what do you say?"
Subaru: "alright, I'll go with you," Subaru said wiping away the remaining tears from his face, following Alec and Drew back to the Oni village
