(BEASTBOY'S PERSPECTIVE)
"So, if we do the CBC and Peripheral Smear, we are going to need further tests after." I overheard Robin in the Analysis Sect.
"Yeah, of course. Let's worry about these two first and see what results we get." Cyborg responded.
"We need to do this as quickly as possible, we need to identify what is going on in his body."
"We do. We are lucky we even caught onto something. We are still teens, Robin, we have to be extremely careful." Cyborg declared.
"I feel like we should take him to an actual professional, Cyborg."
"I get your point, but you are forgetting that Beastboy's genetic structure is unstable. It isn't like ours that is stable despite the differences. Raven's is half demon, Star's is alien, yours is fully human; but all of us have a stable structure except him. Professionals will not be able to assess Beastboy and will treat him as a genetically stable person. You know that is only going to make things worse for him." Cyborg asserted.
"Right, right. Do we have all of the sources for this? Fortunately enough we can do a CBC and Smear." Robin claimed nervously.
"Robin, don't worry about it. I'm half computer and I build machines. Everything will be okay."
"I hope so." Robin uttered.
"How are you feeling?" Raven whispered to me.
Raven had stayed the night with me while the other Titans went to rest. Their lack of sleep would result in frustration, inaccurate conclusions, and perhaps harm to my body.
The sun trickled through the blinds as morning ticked on.
I opened my mouth then closed it in hesitation.
"Remind me to never sleep in this chair again, I feel as wooden as the chair legs. Surprised that I even got sleep, not enough anyway." Raven stretched.
"Haha, beds are better aren't they?" I smirked.
A black hex zapped me in the arm.
"Ow, Raven! That hurted!" I complained.
Raven's stern face softened, then she belt out a hearty laugh.
"Ha! Hurted? Beastboy, really?" Raven fell into a giggle fest.
"Sorry, I wasn't thinking." I chuckled.
Raven deserved as many good laughs she could get. I adored seeing the girl so cheerful and her laughs were music to my soul.
"No, it's okay. That was hysterical. Ha, that laugh came from the deepest pit, wow. Hurted." Raven's body shook as she wiped a tear from her eye.
"I'm glad I could make you smile."
"I wish I could make you smile more."
Raven moved the chair closer to me.
"That's okay."
"You're going to be fine, Beastboy, I promise. A diagnosis has not even been made yet." Raven smiled tenderly.
"I dunno, Rae. I really don't know how to feel about this. I'm hungry, though." I smiled.
"Wow, really?"
"A little."
I inhaled sharply, trying to get oxygen in my lungs.
"If that's the case, I can get you something to eat, then." Raven suggested.
"Riseeeeeee and shineeee, Titans!" Cyborg boomed through the door.
"Rise and shine? I didn't sleep a wink last night." my best friend hi-fived me.
"Robin, you need to get better chairs. I feel like cardboard." Raven said.
"Chairs are made for sitting, not sleeping." Robin chuckled.
"I suppose."
"Hey, guys, what boat did the Titans ride about a hundred years ago?" I smiled widely.
"Eighty-three beats per minute pretty goooooood." Cyborg wrote down my vitals.
Robin and Raven looked at me weirdly.
"The TITAN-ic. Haha!" I chortled.
"Great Azar." Raven shook her head.
"The Titanic was a ship not a boat, Beastboy." Robin returned.
"Same difference."
I chuckled, feeling the ache in my muscles and bones.
"Okay, I updated your vitals. Now we have to run the smear and CBC." Cyborg recorded the information into the computer system.
"Awwwwwww, but I'm hunnngry." I complained.
"You're kidding. I just took your vitals down, your levels are going to be different now." Cyborg sighed.
"Don't worry about it, Cyborg, let him eat. He hasn't eaten much lately. Nothing will change so drastically over a matter of minutes anyway. Unless he puts a whole bunch of sugar in his system." Robin established.
"I won't." I smiled childishly.
"Okey-doke, let's get the tubes and make sure the needles are sterilized."
"Sure thing. Anyone seen Star?" Robin walked to the medical cabinets and drawers.
"She must still be sleeping. I'll check on her after I bring Beastboy some breakfast." Raven turned on her heel.
"Uh! Raven?" I called my friend back.
"What's up?"
"Tofu, it's in the fridge. Orange Juice, if you can." I shivered.
"No need to tell me, I know you better than you think." Raven smiled faintly a bit and left the room.
"Someone's happy today." Robin stated.
"Who, me?" I asked.
"Raven." Robin answered.
"You said you ain't sleep last night, watchu did with the girl?" Cyborg mocked with a smirk.
"Cy, Raven fell asleep right after you left. I was up all night by myself." I glanced at my dotted hands.
"Oh." Cyborg's mouth fell into a flat line.
"I could see why. Don't worry, B, we've got you covered."
Cyborg lined up tubes and caps on a tray.
"I know, I'm really proud of you guys for getting so far. Nothing like this is easy to manage at our age, especially without an adult." I sighed.
"You got that right." Robin agreed.
"I wouldn't say Raven's happy." I said.
"Why?" Cyborg asked.
"Because..."
"Hello, friends!" Starfire burst through the door, startling all of us.
"Morning, Star." Robin shook his head as he cleaned a butterfly needle.
"What is the matter? Is the morning not good?" Starfire was saddened.
"It's pretty alright, Star." said Cyborg.
"Just that I nearly dropped the needle when you came in here. Took me by surprise." Robin chuckled.
"Oh, I am sorry. I did not discern you were doing such a hazardous task." Starfire shrank.
Robin smiled at the alien, "You meant well, Star."
I greeted, "Good morning, Star."
"Good morning, are you okay?" Starfire walked towards me.
"Give or take." I shrugged.
"May I help you with anything?"
"No thanks, Star."
Raven finally walked in with my breakfast on a tray.
I cheered, "Wah-hoo! Time to crunch and munch."
"I should get a five-star rating for hospitality." Raven joked.
I replied with a pleased grin, "I'd give you a six if I could."
"No need." Raven gave me my tray with a grin.
"Thank you, Raven."
The smell of tofu wafted through my nose.
"No problem."
"'Must be loveeee on the brainnnnnn. Baby, you got me like hu—uuu—uuuuh'! Damn, I feel like I haven't eaten in years." I bit into my tofu happily.
"I am glad you are eating, friend Beastboy. You need to after all that your body is going through." Starfire said.
"Yeah... I do."
I felt an uncomfortable twinge in my stomach as I chugged down some juice.
"I think after the testing we should still keep you here for a bit," Robin reasoned.
I watched Raven's demeanor sink.
"Just to be safe, the last thing we need is another episode of blood or seizures and not have you in a place where all of that is safest. For the most part."
The Crime Alert blared in our ears.
"Dude, at eleven in the morning? What is going on with these villains? It's not like they are getting a paycheck for working." I complained.
"That's why they rob banks." Raven claimed.
"Hee-hee hilarious." I sarcastically huffed and began to flip off the linen.
"Nuh-uh, B, you have to stay here." Cyborg stopped me.
My shoulders slumped.
"Awwww, come on! It's not like anything is going to happen to me! I'm fine, I swear."
Blood suddenly gushed from my nose, and I tried to hide it.
"Totally, fine." Raven had tissues at hand and gave them to me.
"Star, let's go. Cyborg, draw the blood for now. If you can, you can start setting up the tests. But, I prefer the testing waits 'till I come back so you have an extra pair of eyes and hands to work with." Cyborg nodded at Robin.
"I wonder who it is this time?" Starfire's eyes lit up as she and Robin exited.
"You're pressing too hard on the pedal. Take a brake." Raven smiled at me.
"Ha, good one." I titled my nose forward.
"How do you feel, B.B? You think I can take some blood? The amount I would have to take is significantly small anyway." Cyborg looked at me worriedly.
"Go ahead, I'll be fine." I claimed lazily.
Raven asked me, "Are you sure?"
Her purple eyes wisely read mine for lies.
"Yeah, very sure."
Cyborg turned around and put on gloves.
He took an elastic band and tightened it around my arm.
"Close your fist, please."
The half human poked at my arms and searched for the proper vein.
One rose to the surface after a few seconds.
Raven kindly held the napkins at my nose for me.
Cyborg asserted, "I have to do this, because if I poke a muscle, no bueno."
I chuckled as the needle entered my skin.
Cyborg moved fast and connected the butterfly needle to a small container. I watched as my vein jutted out more and felt my blood flow faster.
"Ooooooo, this is so cool. My parents would love this kinda stuff." I grinned dully.
"I could say the same. My father's the reason why I am like this anyway." Cyborg switched the needle into a fresh tube.
"All of us have some kinda thing because of our parents. Either good, bad, or both." Raven uttered in her monotone.
"You right." Cyborg shook his head and filled the third tube.
I yawned and held the tissues myself.
Cyborg put a small band aid over the hole in my skin.
"I'll be in the analysis room gathering some foundation on the blood. You guys can camp out here for now."
"M'kay. Later, Chrome Dome." Cyborg left Raven and I in silence.
"I feel like the world is spinning on Michael Jordan's finger." I flung my head back into the pillow.
Raven was confused.
"You know, basketball? Players spin it on their fingers all the time."
"Nice analogy."
"Thanks." I beamed.
"Do you ever think maybe basketball players spin basketballs on their fingertips because they like to see that they are in control? Life makes them feel as if they have no control so they do the spinny thingie so they feel like they have control over something." I rambled drowsily.
"Food for thought."
"I really wish I could fight. I'm holding all of you back, now. Not one person, but the whole team." I spoke weakly, putting the tissues aside since the bleeding ceased.
I stayed up all night, cracked laughs and jokes here and there, but what was going on was still in the back of my head.
"You aren't holding us back. You can't be a hundred percent all the time, Gar. When you fall, it's more than okay to have people help you get back up. I am sure you will be back on the battlefield in no time. Within a few days we should have a better idea of what is going on and what you need. For now, you need to stay low."
"Uh-huh."
I groaned while I positioned myself.
"Chairs are better aren't they?" Raven smiled smugly.
"Tuh..." I found myself laughing at our inside joke.
"You know what's even better than chairs?"
"Tofu?" her eyes were light and soft.
"Nah, something even better than that."
I grabbed onto Raven's silver, cold hand and feebly squeezed it.
"You."
Hey, everyone (: So glad you are reading and hopefully enjoying this book. Just a slight note, that I wrote this two years ago in my earlier writing fic stage. Some of you are asking why Beastboy has cancer when his immunity should be basically invincible; and I totally agree. Again, I wrote this when I was younger, so I never took this detail into consideration as much as I do now .
