Chapter 17

"Well this was an interesting choice," Kara commented as she and Alice landed in front of an old, beaten up building, covered in all sorts of graffiti. They were not far from some of the state funded low income housing and that made Kara nervous the crazy blonde was so close to families and little children. Alice, on the other hand, turned her head, doubled over, and retched; flying was not for her. The Kryptonian heard Kate's motorcycle, only a half mile away. Luke was helping her with directions, thanks to being able to track Kara's comms.

"Pretty sure making me vomit is police brutality," Alice wiped the corners of her mouth with the back of her hand before attempting to right herself. She realized that the Kryptonian's hand never left her shoulder.

"Pretty sure you have no idea what that really means," Kara gave her a look.

"Could this Tommy you've been hanging out with have found another partner to double cross you with?" The blonde continued.

"Not sure how he would have found the time. We were planning to go after Kate and I gave him tasks to perform, which he did, otherwise today wouldn't have worked so well. Well aside from the bomb vest and the situation I find myself in at the moment," Alice admitted. That's when Kate arrived on the Bat Cycle.

"Finally," the psychopath teased her sister. Kate pulled off her helmet and gave her a look.

"So you picked the old Wells warehouse. Of course you would," the brunette shook her head.

"Wells as in Harrison Wells?" Kara asked.

"No relation. Pepper Wells used to make candy. She was famous around Gotham until about ten years ago. She had no family to take over the business and she'd just been diagnosed with a brain tumor. While she was getting treated for her condition, her less than scrupulous business partner took his opportunity. He emptied the company coffers and took off. They say poor Pepper died of a broken heart as her employee were left without jobs and their retirement fund and she could not pay off the company's debts," Kate explained.

"She was screwed over by a man. Somehow I think we can all relate," Alice pointed out. Kara heaved a sigh before turning her attention to the building. Using her x-ray vision, she scanned, looking for humans.

"Well the building is empty, so let's go for a tour," Kara directed Alice toward the building and she led the two heroes into the place through a door that had obviously been broken down to gain access to the interior.

"We mostly hung out in the middle of the manufacturing floor. The roof is mostly intact and this was the best place to keep warm and dry," Alice explained.

"All the comforts of home," Kate shook her head. The three picked their way through the building, not meeting any resistance as Kara had suggested. Finally after about five minutes, they found the middle of the floor, in between the vats that must have been part of the candy making business.

"Doesn't this seem awfully clean?" Kara looked at her friend. She could smell bleach but she wasn't sure anyone else could. Her ability to smell was enhanced just like her hearing and sight.

"Building has been closed for almost ten years. It's been broken into, graffiti'ed on, and used as a criminal hangout, and yet you could eat off the floor…" Kate looked at her sister.

"Don't look at me. It didn't look like this when I left it. Or at least I don't remember it that way. The furniture we were using is missing and the beer bottles are all gone," Alice was just as confused as they were.

"Why do you clean something like this?" Kara asked. She knew the answer but she figured she'd pose the question anyway.

"Because you need to cover up what you've done – like murder someone…" Kate trailed off, something had caught her eye, and she wandered over to one of the vats.

"My guys would not kill each other. We're crazy but not that crazy," Alice said.

"Well I wouldn't hold your hopes up," Kate tapped the side of her cowl and the eye panels slid down, allowing her to see the hidden items near a stain that looked like blood.

"Oh crap," Kate murmured.

"What is it?" Kara asked.

"The floor and surrounding areas are lighting up like a Christmas tree. Bleach was used everywhere," the brunette said.

"That's not good," Kara shook her head.

"Why not burn it down to cover your tracks?" Alice asked.

"Because you don't want attention brought to the site. There is something here someone wants…" Kate couldn't figure out what though. It was all very odd until Kara whispered,

"I hear someone moving about."

"They waited until we got here but they weren't expecting a Supergirl. Let's carefully back out of here and maybe we'll get lucky to see the sunrise," Kate whispered back. Alice looked like she was ready to go and they quickly headed back out the way they came in.
