Chapter 18

They made it outside and Kate took custody of her sister while Kara scanned the building again. This time multiple people showed up. The brunette could tell that the blonde was worried about something. Still, she knew that the bigger play was to keep Alice alive. While the psychopath might not have all the details, she knew more than she was telling.

"Get her out of here. I'll go meet our new friends and see who we're dealing with," Kara offered.

"I don't like that idea," Kate said.

"I do. I'm not hanging around," Alice told her. Luke's voice came over the comms and he told them that he'd called the Crows for backup. They were only minutes away. It was times like these that Kara missed the Super Friends.

"Go. I'll make sure the Crows help," Kara smiled at Kate and the brunette moved her sister over to the Bat Cycle.

"How is this going to work?" Alice gave her a look.

"Quite easily really," Kate pulled out a pair of handcuffs from her bat-belt. She poked a button the bike near the handlebars and up popped a handle which the person on the back of the bike could hold onto. Helping Alice onto the bike, she quickly clamped the handcuffs over the handle and the middle of the cuffs between Alice's hands.

"We'll go nice and slow," the brunette promised before hopping onto the bike herself; Alice had to duck so she could.

"This is going to be interesting," her sister said.

"You're right. This is the first time I'm trying it," those were the last words they shared before the engine was turned over and the bike headed for the road. Kara watched them go and then turned her attention back to the building.

Heading inside, she noted that the people in the building were spread out. She could not get to all of them but maybe if she could find one, she could get some information that would be helpful. Moving as quickly and as quietly as she could, the blonde came up to one man who was standing near the bleached area. He was dressed completely in black. His outfit reminded her of a ninja or someone from the League of Shadows. Since the League was basically dismantled, she wondered if this group had taken their place.

"I was trying to find the manager but I'm guessing you're not him," Kara announced her presence as she floated in the air about three feet off the floor. The man said nothing and even smirked. That confused the Maiden of Might, but she didn't let it bother her.

"Now why don't you tell me who you work for and what you're doing in Gotham?" The blonde tried. That wasn't going to work as the man pulled out a gun that Kara had never seen before. Without speaking, he fired at her. The bullets seemed normal enough as they bounced off of her with little affect to her well-being. It was the look of confusion in the man's eyes that threw her for a loop. Like he'd never seen or heard of Supergirl or Superman before. Was it possible he'd been living under a rock somewhere?

Suddenly he shouted in a language that she was unfamiliar with. Whatever he said caused his friends to come running. Kara wasn't sure how things were going to progress, but she figured she'd better nip it in the bud.

"All right, I think we should all calm down now. I think we all know you've started something here that I'm going to have to clean up, so let's not drag this out," Kara told them. They all raised their guns towards her.

"I think we both know those won't work," the blonde said.

"Good thing ours will! Drop your weapons! Hands in the air!" It was Sophie with the Crows back up. Kara smirked, feeling a little better that the bad guys were now outnumbered. It didn't seem to matter to the bad guys though as they turned their attention to the Crows.

"Take cover!" Kara yelled.
