Chapter 32
The trip to the base wasn't a very long one but then again the island wasn't very big in the first place. The two men didn't seem to trust the two women they guided around but they said nothing, their loyalty to Safiyah was more than enough to make sure they did nothing to upset her. Kate kept quiet, mostly because she was looking for any signs of Tatiana being back on the island. There was a possibility that their foe had returned and had tried to quietly slip into the role she'd taken before she got the crazy idea in her head about Alice.
They had reached the stronghold of the Many Arms of Death and both ladies could feel the eyes of every member present staring at them. Kara figured it was Kate that was getting most of the looks as people there wouldn't know who she was or what secret she was holding onto. Still it made both of them uneasy.
"Kate Kane, I must admit, I never expected you'd come back here. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was a pain of death situation," Safiyah spoke from a large chair at the end of the room as the two men led the ladies into a large room that Kara kind of thought looked like a throne room.
"I wouldn't have come if it wasn't important," Kate spoke up.
"Yes, you claim there is a traitor in my midst," the olive skinned woman said. She dismissed the two men who left the room and closed the door, leaving the three to talk. The two ladies were not offered chairs and remained standing.
"Tatiana showed up in Gotham and she's been making a mess," Kate was blunt about it before quickly filling her former lover in.
"She has done all of this in my name?" Safiyah raised an eyebrow.
"In the name of the Many Arms of Death, yes. I know that you and I don't see eye to eye anymore, but I wouldn't risk everything by coming here with a made up story," the brunette pointed out.
"You would not, but you brought your friend and that intrigues me," Safiyah said.
"She knows Supergirl and can vouch for her," Kate responded.
"Ah yes. Supergirl. She has proven to be a worthy adversary. My troops did not believe me when I told them about her skills and power but with her and Superman flying around, we've had to be… more careful," the leader of the terrorist organization narrowed her eyes at them.
"Be that as it may, she had to save a bus load full of innocent children. You and I both know that children are supposed to be off limits," the brunette pointed out.
"Quite right. We are not savages," Safiyah nodded. Kara was about to object to that but said nothing as Kate continued,
"Kara, show her the footage." Kara nodded and pulled out her phone, quickly pulling up news footage of witnesses at the factory, some of them happened to be the children from the bus. Safiyah frowned as she took the phone from her and watched the video. While she did not trust the worldwide media, mostly because they would always paint her organization as the bad guy, she knew Kate would not lie. If Kate trusted the blonde enough to bring her here, a reporter no less, then the story was true.
"What would you have me do?" Kate's former lover asked.
"Recall Tatiana. End her war on Gotham. You do that and I will stay out of your business when it is not in my city," it wasn't much of a deal, but Kate knew that Safiyah hated traitors more than she hated losing a little business.
"You know she will claim it is for a good reason. That your sister, Alice, is worth more to me than just some kids," Safiyah still seemed to be on the fence. Tatiana was like a sister to her and she hated to have to do what Kate was suggesting.
"I brought this to you, so that you could handle it however you saw fit but know this - if Tatiana stays in Gotham, I cannot guarantee her safety. I will make sure the Crows rain holy hell down upon her and Batwoman will be more than happy to join in," the brunette gave her notice of her intentions.
"And what if Tatiana refuses to come home? Surely, she will be suspicious," Safiyah pointed out.
"Then the same applies. You may want to stress to her that she would be better off with you than in Gotham," Kate said. Her former lover nodded and Kara looked at her friend, wondering if it would really be that simple. Somehow she highly doubted it and Kate seemed to sense her friend's concerns.
"Now we're going to head back to Malta and then Gotham. If anything happens to us, Kara has an e-mail set to go to her bosses at CatCo. and Supergirl. I don't think you want the Maiden of Might coming here, do you?" Kate wondered.
"While a worthwhile foe, I do not see the need to call her. My men will escort you back to your boat," Safiyah said before calling for her men to take the women back.
"Be prepared to fight. Anyone loyal to Tatiana will know we're here by now," Kate kept her words barely above a whisper. Kara only nodded, knowing that a fight was definitely headed their way.
