Chapter 03-Bombshell
"What?" Hermione exclaimed shocked making things shake in the room.
"Dear we couldn't have children. We tried for years to conceive without any success," Jane explained "Then we meet your mother. She was little older than you are now, and she was kneeling in an alley by our office. She was injured and so pale as well as little over 3 months pregnant. We could leave her there. Later we found out more about her."
"Your mum here has such a soft heart she insisted on us taking the poor woman home and it's a blessing we did. So, after we bandaged her up and feed her your mum convinced her to stay and be nursed back to health. We just never knew that it was an impossible thing." George told the story to his daughter.
"Once she was well enough to get around the house it was a month in, and we just wanted to help her, so we invited her to stay till you were born. She accepted saying she had no where else to go and that people were after her," Jane confessed "We became such good friends. I loved your mother like a sister. She eventually told us what happened to her and that she was a witch. It took her using her wand for us to believe her. Instead of thing she was crazy."
"She was dying. She had been hit with a curse that was draining her magic," George continued to explain "She lived just long enough after your birth to add a glamor on you and to legally let us adopt you. She wanted you safe from her attackers and those against her. Later that night she died and left us you."
"She made your father and I promise to raise you as our own and we did. We were so glad too," Jane cried "A little girl of our own. We loved you immediately and have never stopped. We have a trunk in the attic for you from your mother. We were supposed to give it to you after you graduated but I think the time is now."
"Yes, it is time," George agreed "Why don't we make an excuse and let us go home to look it over. Your mother would have wanted you to view it in private. She was a very private person and trusted no one with her things."
Hermione was so shocked with the story that she was just told all she could do was nod. She quickly got up and then all her stuff seemed to whizz into the trunk as she thought of packing. Once it was done, she touched it and it shrank to fit into her pocket. She really was amazed at her new power all she seemed to have to do is think it and her magic reacted. She would have to research it later, she thought.
As they walk downstairs everyone was gone. Hermione had no clue were. The only ones left were Dumbledore and Snape who were talking quietly and stopped when they saw the small family come down the stairs. "We are taking Hermione home," George demanded "If she wishes to return later, she will get ahold of you."
"Very well," Dumbledore said skeptically eyes narrowing at them.
Hermione felt him in her head and quickly pushed him out which shocked him. He was wide eye without his normal sparkle as the family left quickly.
In no time they were back at their house. Mr. Granger went to fetch the trunk, while Hermione sat in the sitting room, and Mrs. Granger went to fix them all cups of tea. Hermione sat in her favorite chair in her family's cozy sitting room filled with bookshelves, good lighting to read in, and cozy furniture that was so relaxing Hermione almost always hated to leave this room. She sat there in a daze thinking about everything that her parents had been thinking. Next thing she knew her father was placing an elegant looking trunk in front of her and both her parents were sitting there with teacups patiently waiting for her to work through her thoughts.
Hermione stared at the trunk in awe. It was a beautiful trunk, awfully expensive and the was a monogram on the top of it. (DMM) Hermione looked at her parents as she touched the trunk with just her fingertips. She could feel the magic coming from the object and was amazed at how it hummed and comingled with her magic. "Where is the key?" Hermione asked.
"Diana said it would open only for you. Never gave us a key," Jane said.
"Diana," Hermione whispered.
"Yes, her name was Diana, dear," Jane informed Hermione.
Hermione just nodded smiling slightly. Diana, Hermione thought, another goddess name. Hermione touched the locks on the trunk and felt them snap open. Some how the trunk knew it was her. This was remarkably interesting magic and she felt joy at knowing that it all seemed to be true this crazy story her parents had told her. Her\mione noticed a few things immediately a letter on top of the lift tray, a diary, a jewelry box, and a photo album. She did not hesitate to break the seal on the letter and started reading it.
My Dear Precious Baby Girl,
You are my miracle. I am not sure how I survived so long but I did. It is truly a blessing and my love for you is so great that I am doing everything to keep you safe. I survived solely because of the Granger honestly. They took such good care of me that I somehow made it to see your unbelievably beautiful face. I hope they have been the best parents to you. They are wonderful people. Took me in and did not think anything of taking in a beaten woman. Then to nurse me throughout my pregnancy. Like a said a true blessing.
Darling you are everything your father and I wanted and fought for. WE wanted to make things better for you. You have probably been told about your father and I and please know do not hold judgement until you have talked to him. Never doubt his love for you.
I have placed a spell on you to conceal your natural features and hopefully your identity. You can reverse it at any time you wish. If you never do that is your choice and I understand. I must hide you away from our world or things you may not be prepared for find you. That is why I left you with the Grangers. They are background and they are the only ones with the knowledge that you are not their biologically will keep you safe in our world, I hope.
Now as for this trunk it is handed down from generation to generation. Only a true female member of our family can work it. Under the top shelf there is multiple compartments. They will develop to what you need or what. The options are indefinite. Everything I hold dear is in this trunk. I leave everything to you. The goblins at Gringotts have my will filed with them when every you are ready to claim my vault as your own. There is plenty for you to live comfortably. Also make sure that Jane and George get what I left to them. They will not expect it, but I feel like they deserve everything I can give to them for helping me through this and with you.
Please be safe my daughter and never forget who you are or what you mean to me.
Love,
Your Mother
Diana Jane Malfoy
Hermione was floored. She was a Malfoy. How could this be. Adopted and a half-blood at least. Well how the world changes.
