Jaune and Courage the Cowardly Dog

Chap 72: The Tower of Dr. Zalost

"So, you left Vale for here?" Ruby asked shocked.

"For the last time. Yes." Roman answered annoyed.

"And out of all the places you could have chosen, you chose to come to Nowhere town?" Blake asked equally shocked before looking over to Neo who was clapping her hands excitedly alongside Courage as they watched Muriel take out some plums from the oven.

"Yes." Roman growled out on the verge of losing it. Yet, the smell of the plums calmed him down,

We were all in the kitchen. With us were Blake and Ruby. Both deciding to visit again. But with us were two guests that I never thought I would see again. And they were the infamous criminals Neo and Roman Torchwick. Earlier in the day while Courage, Blake, Ruby and I were out shopping for ingredients for Muriel, we ran into them. Ruby and Blake immediately took out their weapons ready for a fight. Yet, to our surprise, Roman and Neo did not fight and just tried to leave. We were confused at first but after much pestering, mainly by Ruby and Blake, Roman relented and explained why they were here and did not fight us. Apparently, it was getting too dangerous and chaotic in Vale because of Ironwoods and Ozpin getting desperate to find the 'maiden' that they thought was here. And because of this, Roman decided to leave Vale for somewhere safer. But since Atlas was also equally chaotic and Roman refused to go to Vacuo or Mistral, he eventually settled on coming here to Nowhere.

Although, while Blake, Ruby and Neo were distracted, Roman did confine in me and Courage that the actual main reason he chose in coming was not only to make sure Neo stays safe but also to potentially start over. This surprised us but caused us to smile all the same. Looking to each other, we decided to invite them over to the farmhouse. This surprised them as well, but they quickly accepted our invitation. After getting the remaining ingredients, we headed back to the farmhouse. Muriel was happy that we brought guests while Eustace was just Eustace. Neo and Roman quickly took a liking to Muriel. As for Eustace, Roman initially thought he would get along with Eustace but that quickly changed and he ended up hating Eustace just like everyone else. And after a bit of introductions and pleasantries, we were in the kitchen watching Muriel make her special happy plums.

"Oh, my secret recipe for happy plums will make anything happy." Muriel said taking out a big batch of plums from the oven.

"Just the smell is making me happy Ms. Bagge." Roman said with an air of politeness that surprised us. As he once stated that he never gave a crap about politeness or manners.

"Please. Just call me Muriel." She said as she started filling the cups that were on the table with plums. She then placed gave us a bowl full of sour cream. "Pour some sour cream in each one."

"Alright Muriel." I said as I took the bowl and gave each cup a generous amount of sour cream. Though, mine had far less sour cream but that was fine by me as that meant the others could have more. Once that was done, we began to eat our plums. And judging by everyone's face, we all loved the plums and felt happier just by eating them. Even Eustace's complaining couldn't sour our mood.

"Paper. Where's my newspaper? Dah! Supposed to be here this morning." Eusatce said angrily before picking up the phone and dialing the number for the Nowhere news. Only to get a busy tone which caused him to slam the phone down in anger. "What kind of paper are they running?"

"Oh, don't worry Eustace. I'm sure it's on the way. You'll feel better after you had some of my happy plums." Muriel told him.

"I don't want any happy plums. I WANT MY PAPER! And there is nothing good on television neither." He complained bitterly.

"Does he ever not complain?" Roman asked as he finished his plums.

"He complains more than any of the councils of the kingdoms ever done when elections come around." Blake answered as she finished her plums.

"And always sucks the joy out of everything." Ruby added. Her mouth and cheeks covered with cream and plums.

"Don't laugh Neo. You got some as well." Roman said smirking while pointing to Neo. Looking over to her, we saw that her face also had cream and plums all over it. Smiling, I turned to Courage and saw the he was no better.

'Ha, ha, ha.' He laughed showing his teeth that were also covered completely in cream and plums.

"I see everyone in enjoying their happy plums. Don't worry. There's plenty more. My goodness. I should put vinegar in all my recipes." Muriel said happily.

"Neo is asking if there is anything she doesn't put vinegar in?" Roman told us.

"Everything. From everyday food to candy. Stuff that makes sense and ones that don't make sense. If it's edible, she'll find a way to put vinegar in it." I answered. They seemed surprised at this but before they could ask, they were cut off by Eustace.

"EVERYONE! COME QUICK! THERE IS A SPECIAL REPORT ON T.V." He shouted.

'Odd.' I thought as Eustace would never call for us to check a news report. Getting up from the table, we all went to the living and saw the news anchor reporting something. But what caught everyone's attention we the fact that the reporter seemed like he was about to pass out.

'Earlier today. The city of Nowhere fell under attack by an unknown tower.' He reported as the screen changed to show a giant tower that had 'legs' to move around.

"What is that?" Ruby asked shocked.

'But right now. I feel like going to bed. So, that's all the news for today.' The reporter said before passing out where he stood

"That's not good." Roman said while gripping his cane tighter.

"Blah, blah, blah. Who cares? I want my paper." Eustace complained.

"Then get off your ass and get it yourself." Roman seethed.

"Fine. I'll get it myself." Eustace grumbled before getting up and getting his coat.

"Eustace. It sounds awfully dangerous. What about your happy plums?" Muriel asked worried. Hoping to keep Eustace from heading out. But he ignored her as he left the house.

"I'm sure he will be fine Muriel." Ruby assured her.

"I'm guessing this is not first time something like this has happened." Roman said with a raised eyebrow.

"Weird, creepy and scary, no. Not the first time. This however, is a first." I answered nervously as I am not sure how we are going to deal with it.

"Does seem like it's now stationary. We best keep an eye on the report to see if it leaves or starts to attack again." Blake said. Looking back to the screen, we saw that, while a bit hard because it was black and white, the tower was stationary. As if it decided to stop attacking. At least for the moment.

"Well, we must be all a bit on edge from this report. How about we all head back into the kitchen and have some more happy plums." Muriel suggested. And as soon as she said that, Blake, Ruby and Neo immediately dashed into the kitchen. Muriel simply smiled before heading there herself.

'Everybody loves the happy plums.' Courage said laughing a bit.

"I have to ask blondie. But is it just us who understand him or am I finally going crazy?" Roman asked one we were alone as Courage headed into the kitchen as well.

"Um, no. Blake understands him as well. As well as a couple other of my friends and people we met. It honestly seems random on who can understand him. But don't worry. You're not actually going insane." I answered.

"Fair enough answer." He said before readjusting his grip on his cane before heading into the kitchen as well. Casting one last glance at the television, I wonder just who could be behind this attack and why before heading back to the kitchen.

Forty-Five Minutes Later

"Thank goodness your back. Did you get your paper?" Muriel asked relieved when Eustace returned safely. Currently, we were all in the living room watching an old monster movie. Though, we only changed recently when the news channel stopped showing the tower.

"Nope. Lazy monkeys don't make paper." He answered bitterly. "And some stupid kids parked their jeep right in the middle of the road."

"How lovely. Would you like your happy plums now?" Muriel asked.

"That jeep wouldn't be a tower?" Blake asked annoyed as we all felt the ground start to shake a bit.

"Courage. Will you stop running around? You're rocking the house." Muriel called out to him.

"I don't think it's the dog Muriel." Roman said as we all got up and went to the windows. And what we saw scared us as the tower from earlier seemed to be making its way over to us with a vengeance.

'WE GOT A PROBLEM!' Courage shouted as racing down the stairs.

"We noticed." Blake said as she and Ruby had their weapons out. Neo and Roman also had their weapons out as well. Steeling ourselves, we went outside and saw just how big the tower really is.

"OH!" Muriel and Eustace gasped in shock.

"EUSTACE! LOOK OUT!" Muriel shouted when a canon was fired with the cannonball flying towards Eustace.

"WHAT THE?" Eustace asked confused and angrily. But to our shock, surprise and confusion, the cannonball did not send Eustace flying back or explode when it reached him. Rather, it disappeared inside him. "Hey? Lousy teenagers."

"Does he really think its teenagers?" Roman asked annoyed.

"Look. They must be the ones controlling it." Ruby said getting our attention. Looking to where she was pointing to, we saw two figures standing on a balcony of the tower near the very top.

"Now the question is how do we get up there." Blake reminded as one of the figures disappeared back into the tower.

"Let's focus on not getting hit first." Roman said as he and Neo dodged a cannonball. The tower continued to fore cannonballs at us yet we managed to easily dodge them. But it soon changed targets from us to someone who can't as easily avoid the attacks.

"AAAHHHHH!" Muriel suddenly screamed when a cannonball targeted her.

'MURIEL!' Courage shouted as he dove towards her to try and take the attack for him. But he was too later as the cannonball struck her. But instead of sending her back or possibly seriously hurting her, it somehow caused her skin color to change to green while all the color in her clothes left.

"Muriel?" I asked walking towards her. Yet, I got no response aside from her looking extremely upset.

"MUREIL! MURIEL! THIS IS NO TIME FOR A NAP!" Eustace shouted walking up to us.

"Help me get her inside." I told him. Without arguing, he started to help me get Muriel inside. But as soon as we started moving her, Eustace got hit with another cannonball.

"That's it. I'm getting me mallet." Eustace declared before heading inside.

"Watch out Jaune!" Ruby shouted.

"SHIT!" I shouted as I barely managed to avoid getting hit. But this also showed me that these cannonballs can also go through walls.

"We have to get out of here. We can't keep this up forever." Roman said as he dodged a few more cannonballs.

"Someone please help me with Muriel." I said as I lifted Muriel and wrapped her arm around my shoulders. Neo quickly came up and did the same for Muriel's other arm. "Thanks Neo."

She nodded before we all headed back inside the house. We were tempted to stay in the living room. But quickly changed our minds when cannonballs continued to rain down on us. Easily going through the walls and floors. We then decided to head to the kitchen and hide there. Looking around, we decided to hide in the cabinets. But this proved a terrible idea as the cannonballs nearly hit us a couple of times. Luckily, it didn't last and soon stopped. Risking a peak, I opened the cabinet I was hiding in and saw no more cannonballs heading towards us. Nor heard the canon being fired.

"Ok. I think it's safe." I said as I helped Courage with getting Muriel out of the cabinet, we put her in. Soon, all of us were out of our hiding spots stretching a bit due to them being small and cramped.

"Are you sure?" Ruby asked cautiously. Ready to dive back in if more cannonballs start raining down on us,

"I don't hear anything. But we better check." Blake said. Nodding, we all headed into the living room and saw Eustace gazing out the window.

"Do you see anything Eustace?" I asked as I helped Courage seat Muriel in her chair before heading to the window.

"Seems to have stopped. For the moment. Darn teenagers." He answered growling before turning to Muriel and putting on a nervous smile. "Well, let's have some of those happy plums."

"I don't think that will help." Blake said worried as we tried to get a response from Muriel yet got nothing except a blank empty gaze. Courage even tried to get her to laugh by using fake lips but only got a sad sigh in return.

"Here. One of you feed her. She likes you both better." Eustace said while giving us a cup full of happy plums.

'Worth a shot.' Courage said as he walked around and tried to feed Muriel. He even tried different ways of feeding her like one would due to a baby. Yet, it seems whatever was in that cannonball did to her caused her to no longer experience joy of any kind as she did not even react to us trying to feed her. Giving up on feeding her, Courage pocketed the plums for later.

"Don't worry Muriel. We'll get you back to normal." I assured her even though all I got in return was a sad weak moan.

"For that, we need to find a cure. And we won't get one by standing here all day." Roman said as he closed the curtains to reduce the risk of getting spotted and making the tower start attacking again.

"Could the tower have an antidote?" Ruby asked.

"Doubtful. But you never know. Some places I have do usually have something in case things go south or not as planned." Roman answered.

"But it's worth a shot if it means helping Muriel." Blake added.

"Listen, it's nice you kids want to be hero's but you still haven't figured everything out. It's only a possibility that they might have a cure. And even if they did, how are you going to get in there?" Roman asked slightly annoyed. We looked at each for a moment before coming up with an idea.

Ten Minutes Later

"This is humiliating." Roman said as he and Eustace wore pizza delivery uniforms.

They were carrying a large pizza delivery bag and bringing it to the tower. As you can probably tell already, the rest of us were inside. Unfortunately, we were also covered in actual pizza as well as it was the only way to help further prove that there was actual pizza in here. It took a bit of convincing, but like Eustace, Roman was greedy as well and went along with the plan we I gave him twenty dollars and thirty lien.

"Quit complaining." Blake said trying her hardest not to laugh. Roman growled at this before zipping up the bag as we reached the tower. Eustace rang the bell a few times but stopped when the door slide opened.

"Here is the pizza you ordered. Twenty bucks." Eustace told whoever opened the door

. There was a light groan heard before we felt ourselves being transferred to the other person. Soon followed by the sound of the door closing and the hissing sound of an elevator ascending. Though, even as we were now inside the tower, we could still hear Eustace cheer at the twenty bucks that he earned while Roman grumbled about not being paid yet. Soon, we were moving again into what we hoped was a safe area to get out of the bag. A few minutes later, we felt ourselves being placed on a table or something. Waiting a few seconds for ever got us to leave the room, we then exited the bag. Only to be remined that we were covered in actual pizza.

"Gross." Blake said as the pizza was licked off her and the rest of us courtesy of Courage. Feeling a tap on my arm, I saw Neo trying to get my attention. She then began mouthing a question.

'I can't believe that worked.' She mouthed out.

'So glad I had Courage teach me to read lips.' I thought relieved that I could use it. "Just because a plan is stupid, doesn't mean it can't work or its not effective."

"PIZZA? WHAT PIZZA? I DIDN'T ORDER ANY PIZZA! GET AWAY FROM ME!" A voice shouted getting our attention. Looking up, we saw that it came a few floors above us.

"We better hurry and find an antidote before whoever that was come back down." Blake warned.

"Unfortunately, we have to climb this long ass staircase to the next floor as there is nothing here." I said as I looked around and saw that the only thing here was an elevator used to get out of the tower.

"Right. Let's go." Ruby said before dashing up the stairs.

Five Minutes Later

"Why couldn't whoever build this tower install an elevator?" Blake asked panting as we finally reached the next floor.

'WOW!' Neo mouthed. Looking around, we saw that this floor served both as the storage for all the cannonballs but also where they make more. Lots more. Not to mention, there is a giant cauldron in the center of the room with cannonballs being dipped into it. Apparently, whatever is in it is used to give the cannonballs their ability to make people sad and depressed.

"Whoever this belongs to has enough cannonballs to invade any kingdom." Ruby gasped at seeing the millions of cannonballs already ready to be used.

"Looks like we not only have to find a cure but a way to destroy this tower." I said already trying to come up with a plan to destroy this tower. But was distracted when we heard footsteps coming towards us. Turning around, we saw a rat racing towards us.

'AAAHHHH!' Courage screamed in terror.

"Don't worry Courage. We can handle this." Ruby said as she took out her weapon and transformed it into its scythe form. But that proved to be a mistake as she accidently hit a cannonball which caused it to fly away. While normally not enough to cause concern, that single cannonball was what was essentially keeping every other cannonball in place. And now they were falling all around us.

"Nice going Ruby." Blake said annoyed.

"Oops. OWCHIE" Ruby said nervously before shouting in pain when Neo pouted and kicked her in the knee hard.

"We can argue later. MOVE!" I shouted as even more cannonballs started falling around us. Seeing a spot where cannonballs ae not falling, we headed over to be tale cover.

'AAAHHHHH!' Courage screamed as one of the cannonballs got under his feet and started to take him away. Luckily, the rat was also sent flying away because of this. Unfortunately, he was also hit by a cannonball.

"This can't be good." Blake said as we watched the rat transform into a muscled monster. It then jumped high into the air before lunging at us and roaring ferociously.

'Crap.' I thought trying to come up with a plan to escape this killer looking rat. Luckily, it seemed Courage had an idea.

'I got this.' He said as he took out the plums from earlier before placing one on the spoon. He then pulled the spoon back to fling the plum towards the rat. And to our amazement, he managed to successfully get it into the rat's mouth where it fell to the floor choking on the plum.

"Um, should we help it?" Ruby asked. But it seemed to no longer choke as for some reason, the plum turned the monster rat into a baby rat wearing a diaper that started to cry.

'Huh?' Courage aske confused as to how and why this just happened.

"Should we do something?" Blake asked nervously motioning to the crying baby rat. Though, right after she asked this, the baby rat got up and left the room in fear.

'I guess that solves that.' Neo mouthed before pointing up the stairs.

"Right. This floor was a bust. Hopefully this next one has it." I said as we began to climb the stairs.

"Let's just hope we don't run into the other person here." Blake said.

"And if we do, let's hope it's not a monster." Ruby added as we reached the door to the next floor. But before we could open it, it flew open and before we could react, a rope tied around us and pulled us in. We were then thrown to the other side of the room by the other individual of this tower.

"Ow." We all moaned in pain from our heads hitting the hard wall. But our attention was quickly drawn to a rather tall green mad scientist looking figure.

"Welcome to the Tower of Dr. Zalost." He said laughing while he aimed a cannon at us.

'EEEEHHHH!' Courage screeched in terror.

"I bet you were all planning on coming in here and doing something very heroic, right?" He mockingly asked.

"Pretty much." I answered.

"I'll tell you what. I'll turn your grandmother back to normal. If you can guess what this four-letter word is before this cannon goes off." He told us while pointing to a chalkboard next to him. "Oh, and don't worry. If one of you is mute, I can read lips."

"Great. I always hated these games." Blake said annoyed as Dr. Zalost took out a giant match before lighting it and using it to light the fuse on the cannon.

"Let's play." Dr. Zalost said ignoring what Blake said.

'L!' Courage shouted which surprisingly Zalost understood.

"No." He said as he drew a head on the chalkboard.

'Z.'Neo mouthed as she struggled to ty and get out of the ropes.

"No." Zalost faked gasped before answering and drawing the body. "Try and get free and I will simply pull this rope which will fire the canon. Next."

"T?" Ruby asked.

"No." He answered while drawing the leg.

"R?" Blake asked annoyed.

"No r." He answered while drawing the next leg.

"How about K?" I asked.

"Oh, so sorry. No k." He mocked before drawing an arm. "Would you like to buy a vowel? Only five dollars each."

'Definitely.' Courage answered before freeing himself from the ropes. We were tempted to try and escape but didn't as we saw Dr. Zalost hold the rope in his hand and smirked at us.

'A?' Courage asked as he gave Dr. Zalost a twenty.

"No. Want to buy another?" Dr. Zalost asked. Courage began pulling his fur in frustration before giving his answer.

'O?' he asked while crossing his fingers for luck.

"Oh, yeah." Zalost said annoyed as he filled in two of the letters. "That's five foe the 'a' and ten for the two 'o.'"

'Hey, that's not fair. I paid twenty.' Courage argued while Zalost went over to the cannon and snuffed out the fuse.

"What's the problem?" Zalost asked.

'Give me my change otherwise not fair.' Courage answered before starting to mutter at the end causing Zalost to cover his ears in annoyance.

"WILL YOU SHUT UP!" He demanded. "One "O" Five bucks. Two "A" ten bucks. The vowels cost you fifteen. Those are the rules."

"Yes, they are. Now give him the change so we can get on with this." I shouted annoyed.

"Well, give me a moment." Zalost said as she checked his pockets before remembering something. He then reached into his shoe and pulled out five dollars and handed them to Courage. "Here it is. There you go."

'Thanks.' Courage said before retuning and getting back into the rope while Zalost lit the fuse again.

"Ha, ha, ha." Zalost laughed as the fuse was nearly gone. Luckily, it seemed that Neo knew the answer.

'Boom?' She gave the final answer which guessing by the fuse magically stopping by itself was the correct answer.

"AH! YOU ALL CHEATED!" Zalost shouted angrily as he aimed the cannon at us. He was about to pull the rope but was stopped when Neo smacked his head with her umbrella causing him to go down.

'He is annoying.' She mouthed as she opened her umbrella and raised it above her head while twirling it slightly.

"He is. But we still have to find a cure and stop this tower." Blake reminded us.

"I have an idea. But you all might not like it." I told them.

"What is it?" Ruby asked.

"Remember how Courage used the plums to change the monster rat into a baby. Maybe, if we toss the plums into the cauldron down below, it would no longer cause the cannonballs to make people sad but rather happy and possibly fix the ones like Muriel." I answered.

'That seems stupid and idiotic. But it might just work.' Neo said agreeing with me.

"Risky but what choice do we have." Blake asked agreeing to go along rather hesitantly though.

"What do you think Courage?" I asked turning to him.

'Better than just winging it. And we better hurry as he's waking up.' He answered before pointing to Zalost who was slowly gaining consciousness.

"Here goes nothing than." I said as I grabbed the plums from Courage before tossing them into the cauldron. For a moment nothing happened but the liquid soon turned from green to a bright pink.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?" Zalost shouted startling us.

"Hopefully stopped you." Ruby answered proudly. But that quickly went away when cannonballs started flying from the cauldron with the tower soon starting to shake. As if it was starting to collapse or explode.

"NO! NOOOOO!" Zalost shouted before running down the stairs. We were about to follow him but the stairs crumbled away as soon as he stepped on them.

"Now what?" Blake asked worried.

"Using the giant crane to get down." I answered while pointing to the crane that was used to put the cannonballs into the cauldron. Steeling ourselves, we jumped towards the crane and managed to garb it in time. Using the momentum, we swung ourselves safely to the floor.

"Ow." We grunted in pain from the not so soft landing. But as we landed, I saw the baby rat crying in a corner scared. Knowing it could get killed as the tower was staring to collapse in on itself and possibly explode, I raced over to it and picked it up to bring him to safety.

"Quick. Someone grab a cannonball to use on Muriel." I shouted.

"Got it." Blake said as she grabbed a pink one. But as she grabbed one, we looked up and saw the top of the tower staring to collapse in on itself.

"RUN!" I shouted as we ran to the nearest window.

Looking out, we knew it was going to be a rough landing, but we didn't have much of a choice. Gripping the mouse tightly, we jumped out and landed roughly on the ground. However, as soon as we landed, the tower started to explode. Not wasting a moment, we ran inside towards the house for safety.

"COME ON!" Roman shouted as he held the door open for us.

"Thanks." I said as we made it to the living room. Setting the rat down, it cried before running away. Deciding to deal with it later, I grabbed the cannonball from Blake and was about to use it but stopped when we heard Zalost shouted from behind us.

"You stupid kids and dog." He shouted angrily. Turning around, we saw him badly burnt while holding a cannonball that was unaffected by the plums.

"That's what I tell them all the time. You stupid dog and kids. You stupid dog and kids." Eustace shouted form inside the closet.

"I may have lost my tower, but at least I can take one of you down." He declared before raising his arms and throwing the cannonball at us.

'OOH!' Courage moaned worried before grabbing the cannonball from me and using it on Muriel. Which had the desired effect as her skin changed back to normal and the color returned to her clothes.

"OOH! AHH!" Muriel weakly moaned. Not giving her a moment, we pulled her out of the chair just in time to avoid getting hit by the cannonball. Though, despite missing his wanted target, he did hit Eustace who came out of the closet.

"I found me mallet." He said before moaning when the cannonball hit him. But instead of making him upset like Muriel just was, it for some reason turned him to stone.

"Kitchen." I said as while we could protect ourselves, what came first was Muriel.

"Under the table." Ruby said before doing so. We didn't question it and just followed.

"What are we doing here?" Muriel asked confused. It seems she's finally coming round.

'Yay.' Courage cheered.

"We'll explain later. But right now, be quiet." I told her as the door opened. Tensing up, we watch Dr. Zalost approach the table.

"What's this?" He asked confused. We then heard him pick up something. "MMMM. Plums. My favorite."

'Everybody loves Muriel's cooking.' I thought with a smirk as she honestly makes the best food. But I was pulled from my thoughts when we heard Dr. Zalost start to chock. It stopped a second later though. But after he stopped, he kneeled down and found us.

"AAHHHH!" Muriel and Courage screamed in terror. We were about to act but stopped ourselves when we noticed that Dr. Zalost was no longer green and his eyes held confusion rather than anger.

"Oh!" Muriel gasped confused when Dr. Zalost started laughing but not like before. It sounded a lot kinder now.

"What is this?" He asked while holding a cup. "I never felt so happy."

"It's my secret recipe for happy plums." Muriel answered smiling. But she grew confused again when the rat from before ran up to Dr. Zalost still crying.

"There. Come here, rat. Give me a hug." Zalost said comforting the rat which gave a sigh of content before chuckling.

"Isn't that the cozied picture you ever did, see?" Muriel asked smiling.

"It is." We agreed.

"Thank you. I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused." Dr. Zalost said before moving out from under the table and standing up.

"It's fine. Here have some more plumes before you go." Muriel offered.

"Thanks." He said smiling before leaving with rat.

"Isn't that lovely? Now, how about to celebrate you all saving the day, we make some more happy plums." Muriel suggested. We just smiled and nodded. Momentarily forgetting the destroyed tower just outside the house and Eustace who is now a statue.
