PROMPT 9: BLANKET written by Malauu-Ladynoir.
THE HEART HAS ITS REASONS THAT THE REASON IGNORES
(Part 2: Marinette's heart)
Marinette opened the hatch leading to her balcony, the cold wind hitting her face and instantly engulfing into her room. She shuddered and turned around, grabbing a black blanket hanging from the bottom of her bed, then slowly climbed onto the terrace.
It had become common for her to find him there, lying lazily on the deckchair and peacefully asleep. She didn't know why he came to sleep here, rather than in the comfort and warmth of the bed that was surely waiting for him at home...
At first, she'd thought that perhaps fatigue was winning him after he was patrolling alone on Wednesday and Saturday nights. Maybe he was stopping here to rest for a moment before leaving.
Then, on a night when her sleep was particularly rough because of a nightmare that made her feel as if she were choking in her room, she went out to her balcony to breathe some fresh air. This time, she realized that he was there, curling up like a real cat on the deckchair, his eyelids closed and breathing deeply and slowly.
She'd been surprised at first that he was still there after midnight, and then she'd been doubly surprised when she realized that it was her who had patrolled that evening, not him.
She'd tried, as Ladybug during their patrol night in duo, to find out if something was wrong with him. But his partner remained true to himself, smiling, cheerful, facetious and stubborn. With his mask he seemed unshakable and invincible, yet she deeply felt that behind the mask there was a sensitive and fragile boy.
Tonight, she was forced to see that her fears and doubts were confirmed. It was the fifth consecutive night she found her partner asleep on her deckchair.
She never heard the feline arrive during the evening, nor leave before the first rays of sunshine. But, without being able to explain exactly why, or how, she knew. She could feel his presence up there, close to her. This didn't prevent her from sleeping, on the contrary, a feeling of security and comfort completely enveloped her when she knew that he was there. It was those same feelings that made her, in the middle of the night, go out to check that he was okay and return him the favor.
The soft warmth of summer evenings was a distant memory and the coolness of autumn gradually settled in Paris. She knew that their costume protected them relatively well from the cold and the wind, but she couldn't help but worry about him anyway.
So, armed with her blanket, she slowly approached Chat Noir to cover him and keep him protected from the cool night. She delicately placed the black cloth on his figure, making sure to lift the cover up to the base of his chin. She let out a slight sigh of relief when he was comfortably wrapped on the blanket and her deep concern to find him frightened and sick in the early morning flew far away.
A soft and satisfied smile appeared on her lips and she slowly turned away from her partner, ready to go back to bed, her heart and mind lighter. At least, it's what she thought she would dp, until one hand suddenly grabbed her and held her on the spot.
She winced, caught off guard, her heart pounding like a hummingbird.
The feline's eyes were closed and he still seemed asleep, but despite this, his fingers intertwined with her own held her with conviction.
"Mmh, stay…" Chat Noir's voice was a begging whisper and without waiting for her answer, he was already pulling firmly on her hand to draw her to him.
She was surprised at first, but finally allowed herself to be drawn by his gesture. She approached him without letting go of his hand, which continued to put pressure on hers. When her knees hit against the deckchair, he dragged her down vigorously, dropping her on his chest, making her gasped. Instantly, the hero's arms closed around Marinette and wrapped her body in a strong and secure embrace.
She felt him pull the blanket up on them and then immediately relaxed against him. She huddled comfortably between his legs, gently placing her head and a hand on his muscular torso.. She could feel and hear Chat Noir's heartbeat accelerating quickly and matching her own, while he tightened a little more strongly his arms around her.
The words that came to Marinette's mind to describe the sensations she felt were all more spontaneous, sincere and wonderful than each other: intoxicating, delectable, comforting, dizzying... It was all of those things. it was too much and, at the same time, not enough. More, her whole being begged.
Intoxicating was the scent of leather that mixed with the smell of musk and spices that emanated from his skin and his hair. Delectable was the warmth that she could feel emanating from him, in spite of his costume, and that spread pleasantly against her. Comforting was his strong arms holding her as if she were the lifeline that prevented him from drowning and falling into the abyss. Dizzying was the renewed vigor with which she felt her heart beating for him and the feeling of happiness in which he'd plunged her just by holding her all against him.
She stopped fighting against fatigue when she felt Chat Noir placing a soft kiss on her forehead and she closed her eyes, slowly soothed by the wave of sweetness and love that swept through her. She relaxed and finally allowed herself to let her reason abandon her. She was finally ready to listen and give to her heart, what it wanted for so long…
