PROMPT N°11: TAKE A BREAK written by Etoile-Lead-Sama

THE TWO OF US ON A TRIP

Marinette put her pencil down and sighed, she looked at the sheet in front of her for a long time, but the sheet was desperately white. The girl had no inspiration at all for the last command that Alya had made to her.

"You need to take a break, Purrincess," utterly declared a voice behind her.

She turned around suddenly, with eyes throwing lightning bolts. "Chat Noir! You could knock before entering the room!" She scolded him before she breathed deeply to calm the beats of her heart.

The feline lowered his ears with a sheepish expression and looked at her with his kitten eyes. "But, Marinette, I've knocked. Three times. I even called you but you didn't answer... So I was worried."

The young woman sighed again: since he learned that she was Ladybug, a few months earlier, Chat Noir, Adrien, was really taking care of her. She couldn't say she didn't like it. On the contrary. Even though it took her several days to adapt to the idea that her feline partner and her first love were only one person.

Neither of them had spoken of their feelings since then, although they were clearly present: Marinette didn't dare to declare herself because of all the times she'd rejected him in the past, and she suspected that the feline was careful not to talk to her about his own feelings for the same reason.

But their relationship had changed again. They'd become even closer to each other, and Marinette felt that one day, one or the other would eventually reveal the secrets of his heart. In the meantime, they were just a little more than friends...

Chat Noir approached her and took a look at the white page.

"You work too hard Marinette!" He blamed her softly. "You can't stop when you need it. You're saddled. You need to cut yourself from everything, to change your mind."

She sighed. "I know that, Chaton, but I have no choice. I don't have time to take a break, I just…"

The feline put his finger on her mouth to interrupt her. "Let me take care of everything," he said. "I'm going to prepare a surprise to change your mind, but you have to agree to follow me."

Marinette liked the idea a lot. She liked it in the sense that it would allow her to take a break without her needing to do anything but also because it was her kitty who proposed it to her... She hesitated for a long time by biting her lip.

"It will be just an evening and only you and I, I purromise," said the feline, once again serving her his bright smile and his lovesick kitten gaze that melted her on the spot.

Marinette just couldn't say no. She sighed, defeat. "Fine, I agree," she whispered.

Chat Noir's reaction was so warm that she felt her heart beat faster in her chest. At this rate, she would be the first to declare herself…

A few days later, Marinette put her different fabrics away when she heard someone knocking on her window. She went out of her closet and saw Chat Noir waving her through the tile, a huge smile on his lips. She smiled at him, looked at her closet with a guilty look, and closed it again. She then opened the window to the feline who was waiting, making antics through the glass.

He reached her in her room whistling cheerfully. Marinette had rarely seen him in such a good mood.

"It's tonight, Purrincess," he hummed, with a singing voice and a lovely smile, which gave the hummingbird heartbeat to the young woman.

She wanted to tease him, to ask him "tonight what?" but he seemed so happy that she didn't have the heart to do it.

"Where are you taking me, Chaton?" she asked him instead.

He grinned and shook his head from left to right. "No, no, no I wouldn't tell you: it's a surprise," he tsk-ed in a playful tone.

He was a child. Marinette was facing a big child. But it made her heart beat faster and it filled her with joy and happiness. She just wanted to laugh with him and follow him. At that moment, she would have even followed him to the end of the world...

Chat Noir asked her to take a warm jacket and they went out. He then put a scarf around her eyes and took her in his arms like a bride. Marinette was expecting him to make three four leaps and then to land somewhere where he would have prepared a little nest for them, as he'd done long before the day of the fight against Glaciator...

What wasn't her surprise when she felt that he put a piece of camembert in his mouth before whispering the words of an upgrade: he was using a power-up. Marinette's curiosity was cutted to the quick and she bit her lip so as not to ask him new questions.

"Hold on tight, Purriness," he said to her ear.

She tightened her grip on him and buried her face in his neck. He smelled so good. She allowed herself to be intoxicated discreetly with his wonderful perfume just before he began to flap his wings to fly into Paris' sky.

They flew what Marinette estimated to be about an hour and then she began to feel change in the air. It was more humid and had a slight smell of Iodine. She then slowly heard new sounds that made her heart beat even faster. Was that a seagull she'd heard? And that gentle, rhythmic shift that was rocking her like the beats of her partner's heart, was it the sound of... the sea? No. Did he really do that? Did he bring her to the sea? Really?

Astrochat landed gently on the ground and released her. Marinette deeply breathed in. Oh yes: that smell was the sea. No doubt about it. He was crazy. And she was getting even more crazy about him.

The girl felt the feline undo her scarf but she waited again before opening her eyes. She was waiting for him to give her his consent.

"You can open your eyes now," he whispered in her ear in a soft voice.

Marinette shuddered, invaded by a whole range of feelings: excitement, curiosity and love. The infinite love she felt for her partner. She then opened her eyes and the spectacle that was offered to her brought tears in her eyes.

They were now at the top of the cliff of Etretat. The feline had placed a tablecloth on the grassy ground so that they could have a bird's-eye view of the sea and L'aiguille d'Etretat that made the site so famous. The panorama was breathtaking and brought Marinette a quietude she hadn't felt for a long time. She closed her eyes briefly to enjoy the light breath of saline air that engulfed her hair and the warm silent presence of the man she loved beside her. Heaven must have looked like this...

The sun was slowly kissing the horizon when they settled on the cloth. Chat Noir came out with some fresh foods, which all came from her parents' bakery, from a small wicker basket. There was everything she loved and preferred. She smiles softly with this attention. Everything was absolutely perfect.

At first they ate in silence, simply savoring the food as well as the landscape or the presence of the other. They stayed this way until a breath of air caught in Marinette's towel, forcing Chat to get up and run after it. Once the surprise had passed, the girl burst out of laughing, simply happy.

"Are you making fun of me, Purrincess?" asked the feline quietly when he came back with the guilty piece of paper.

She cast her amused gaze into his. "Totally, Chaton."

He put his hand on his chest and faked a surprised look before falling to the ground. "You wound me!" he declared dramatically.

Marinette giggled. "What a knight you do if you fall at the first blow!" she teased him.

She started laughing more beautifully, and as her laughter was communicative, the feline started laughing too.

Marinette and Chat Noir had watched the sunset over the ocean together. The last orange rays had colored the limestone of the cliff, giving the impression that it was made of gold.

They then speaked for a long time, of everything and nothing: their civilian life and their superhero life. Then also of their plans for the future but, despite the place more than romantic, neither dared to evoke his feelings. The moment was too perfect to risk losing everything talking about love…

Chat Noir once again made Marinette laugh, many times, with his antics then they lay down on the tender grass to observe the stars. The ocean air was so pure and fresh that they could see these shining with all their brightness. There wasn't the slightest cloud in the sky, as if the heavens had decided to give them a gift too.

The night was well advanced when they flew back to Paris, so much so that when Astrochat again dropped Marinette at her home, the Notre-dame's bells rang the twelve strokes of midnight.

"Go home quickly, the magic will soon stop working," he joked again.

But Marinette didn't follow his advice, instead she drew the feline in a strong embrace. "Thank you," she whispered. "Thank you for being here for me, mon Chaton. You always know what I need."

The feline gave her back her embrace with gentleness and tenderness.

-"Always. I'll always be there when you need it, Marinette."

Marinette watched as the feline moved away from her to return to the manor house where he lived. Her mind was spinning fast and she took a decision: after all that he'd done for her that evening, she decided to declare herself to him. Didn't he deserve that she should finally throw herself in the water for him?
