Skylor sprayed disinfectant on one of the tables before wiping it down with a towel. It had been a slow day at the Noodle House, the only customers being the ninja, who had come in after a long day of training.
Skylor finished wiping down tables and checked in with the ninja before going back behind the counter. No sooner had she pulled out a stack of new menus and set them down, the front door chimed.
Skylar looked up and saw an older woman. Her hair was platinum and streaked with brown half down and half up, cut to the sides of her face. She wore droopy earrings and purple lipstick, with yoga pants, tennis shoes, and wearing a black sweater over a purple top. Big extravagant sunglasses covered her eyes. She carried a large and what seemed to be an expensive purse.
"Hi, welcome to Skylor's Noodle House, how can I help you today?" She said with a smile.
Skylor could almost see the eyeroll behind the lady's glasses.
"Yeah, just a table please." The lady huffed, almost annoyed.
Skylor nodded and picked up a menu. She tried not to be annoyed with the rudeness of this woman, she had her share of trouble before. The downside of working in the restaurant industry was that sometimes she saw the most unfathomable amounts of ignorance of stupidity that she thought would never be possible in humanity.
Skylor showed the lady over to the table and brought her a glass of water. She had just turned to go take care of business elsewhere when-
"Excuse me!" Said a harsh voice.
Skylor turned around to see the lady looking upset and holding up her water.
"Yes?" Skylor asked, confused. "Is there something wrong?"
"Yes, yes there is!" The lady said. "Where's my lemon?"
"Excuse me?"
"My lemon! Don't you have lemons in your water? Everyone does around here!"
"Oh, I'm sorry." Skylor said, annoyed but hiding it. "We don't unless the customer asks. But I can if you would like."
The lady didn't even say please, instead opted for shoving the glass over the table towards Skylor. She picked it up and headed to the kitchen.
Jay noticed the commotion and elbowed Kai. "Hey," He said to him. "What's up with this lady that just came in? Seems like she's giving Skylor a hard time."
"I don't know." Kai said. "But let's stay out of it unless it gets to the point where we need to intervene."
"You don't think she'll be a problem?" Cole asked.
"As of right now, no." Nya said. "But we'll keep an eye on it."
Skylor appeared back with the lady's lemon water. All seemed well after that.
That was, until she was given the tab.
"Fifteen dollars?!" There was a screech at the lady's table. "What am I getting charged fifteen dollars for?!"
"Uh, ma'am." Skylor said. "You ordered a plate of puffy potstickers with an extra side of vegetables. That's fifteen."
"No, no, no!" Said the lady. "This isn't right! This isn't right at all! I shouldn't have to pay fifteen dollars!"
"Um, why?"
"After the horrible service I received today, I shouldn't have to pay for this!"
Skylor raised an eyebrow. "And what is this, 'horrible service'?" She asked, making quotations with her fingers.
"Ooh, Skylor's really about to get into it now." Lloyd said.
The lady stood up. "I don't appreciate the attitude you're giving me, young lady!"
Skylor crossed her arms. She had it.
"And I don't like the way you're acting in my store." She snapped back.
"I would assume now is the best time to intervene." Zane said, getting up.
The ninja got up and walked over. "Uh, ladies, what seems to be the problem?" Lloyd asked.
The lady, obviously pissed, pointed at Skylor. "She's still expecting me to pay after the horrible service I received today!"
"Horrible service?" Nya asked.
"Yeah, the only person being horrible around here is you." Kai told the lady.
The woman gasped, shocked at the audacity of this man to prove her wrong.
"You know what, I've had it, I'm leaving!" The woman said, beginning to storm out the door.
"Hey, where are you going?!" Jay asked.
"Ma'am, Ninjago law states that you cannot leave without paying." Zane said, gently grabbing her forearm.
The lady began screaming bloody murder before whipping around and smacking Zane in the face with her purse.
Now, Zane was not one to get angry. But this lady had him fed up.
Zane held out his hand and froze the lady's feet to the floor just as she began to try and run out.
"Now listen," Zane said, clearly annoyed. "We do not risk ourselves time and time again to save this city only for you to be going around and talking down to us or service workers." He told her.
The lady was pissed now.
"This is unacceptable!" The lady yelled, throwing a temper tantrum. "First I get horrible service, then I'm being forced to pay, and now I'm getting assaulted!" She glared at Skylor. "I want to see your manager!"
Skylor crossed her arms again. She raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, so you do now?" She asked.
"Yes!" The lady said.
"And what's your name?"
"My name is Karen! Now bring me your manager!"
Skylor narrowed her eyes. "Riiiiiiiight…" She said.
Skylor walked through the kitchen doors and reappeared a few minutes later, a fake smile plastered on her face. "Hi, how can I help you?"
Karen stomped her foot, the ice had melted away. "Excuse me?! I said BRING ME YOUR MANAGER!"
Skylor's fake smile vanished and was instantly replaced with one of not annoyance, but of rage.
"I AM THE MANAGER!" Skylor roared in Karen's face.
"You know what, this is inexcusable!" Karen said, clearly pissed. She pulled out her phone and began recording. "I'll have you all know that I am recording on Facebook live so this is used as evidence and all of you can be exposed for your horrendous behavior!"
"Evidence?!" Nya asked. "Evidence for what?!"
"I'm calling the police!" Karen said. "I'm filing a report!"
"What?!" Kai asked. "For what?"
"You and all your little friends are going to jail for harassment and assault! And I'll make sure that this bitch loses her restaurant!"
"EXCUSE ME?!" Skylor said.
"Alright, look, Karen," Jay said. "I can bet my high score on Fist To Face 2 that you drive a soccer van, been divorced twice, have a son named Timmy that the only thing you feed the poor kid is vegan chicken nuggets, don't let him play any video games or even have a normal social life because it's considered 'unholy' to you, don't take him to the doctor when he's sick and don't even have him vaccinated because you think your essential oils will cure everything, get your hair and nails done every other day and think its essential in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, always has your nose buried in Facebook, call the police on little kids with lemonade stands, drink wine and gossip with your friends in your free time, and have a yappy little yorkie mutt named Fifi that has zero brains and an equal amount of ability to shut up! You may fit the Karen stereotype very well, but that does not give you the right to treat Skylor or any of us like that!"
Karen's mouth was agape at the end of Jay's rant. She covered her mouth.
"How did you know?" Karen asked.
"Alright, you know what, that's enough!" Lloyd said. "Karen, I'm going to need you to leave."
"No! I refuse to leave until I'm compensated for the abuse I had to endure today!"
Skylor had it. Without another word, she picked up Karen and tossed her out the door.
"AND DON'T COME BACK!" She yelled as Karen stalked off in disgust, leaving a one-star review for the noodle house on Yelp.
Cole facepalmed. Nya sighed.
"Oh, you gotta love Karens." She said, rolling her eyes.
