We're in high school, so naturally, the news spreads like wildfire. Edward Cullen knocked Mike Newton out for talking shit about Bella Swan in the lunch line. Yes, you read that correctly. Edward Cullen, the shy do-gooder, punched a douche nozzle's lights out for disrespecting me.

Jessica is absent today, so I plan on spending the lunch period confiding in Angela. She lets me vent and is in the middle of telling me how great a guy Edward really is and that I should give him a chance when we hear someone yell the word fight and all hell breaks loose. We do what any rational person does in the situation—run toward the chaos so we can witness the brawl because who doesn't enjoy watching a good fight take place? I don't think what is happening across the cafeteria can be considered a fight though.

It's over before it even began. One hit. A well-placed punch really. K.T.F.O.

When we all realize who the aggressor is, there was a collective gasp all around that I would normally find comical if I wasn't stunned by the sight before me. While one lunch monitor leads Edward Cullen out of the room with his hands held behind his back, two others are busy trying to get a dazed Mike up on his feet.

The second the cafeteria doors swing shut, the whispers start. Everyone wants to know what's going on. What happened to make the quiet, normally reserved boy just snap and lash out so violently?

Principal Greene appears out of thin air and starts ushering people out. "Nothing to see here. Get to class, people."

I lose Angela in all the excitement but see Rosalie's tall figure headed in my direction.

"Bella!"

"Rose?"

"Dude. Did you see that?" she whisper-yells, grabbing my arm too tightly.

"Uh, I saw the tail end. What in the hell just happened?"

"I'll tell you what happened. Edward Cullen just defended your honor."

Today is full of surprises.
